Stopped by on our way out of town because of the great reviews and it did not disappoint! The overall friendly atmosphere reminded me of what I miss about Indiana-the friendliness. The hostess was happy when we walked in with two kids and a large party because she had a table available for us right away and sat us too, even when our whole party wasn't there. That just wouldn't happen where we're from. Sandy, the owner, even stopped by to talk and introduce herself and it's that friendliness that makes me miss my homestate. Went with a group of friends. Had the French Dip that was placed back on the menu for fall. It's the real deal. The whole sandwich was big, I could have easily done half. This is a great place for breakfast and brunch. Love their omelets and salads...its a fabulous place to have a meal and catch up with friends. The reason its not 5 stars is I don't feel like its the cleanest place ie table is sticky and chairs always have crumbs etc and service can be hit or miss. Great atmosphere and food! My mom had the crab eggs Benedict and I had the missile sandwich and they were both delicious. Service was friendly and fast. The decor is very charming. We've been to Ruth's twice now and had very good experiences both times! To be honest, both times we went to Ruth's it was because we tried going to patachou across the street and the wait was extremely long and we didn't feel like standing around. That being said, I'm not sure why Ruth's was our backup because this place can definitely stand on its own and is quickly becoming a regular for us. The first time we went, my husband got the biscuits and gravy and he loved it, the second time he got the chorizo biscuits and gravy (a special) and he loved that even more! I'm not a biscuits and gravy fan at all and I enjoyed a couple bits of his chorizo biscuits and gravy dish. I had and love "Our Turkey Club," complete with a perfect amount of bacon and avocado. I thought the pesto was a nice touch, served on my choice of ciabatta bread--yum. I enjoyed the dressing on the house salad, but I think some of the lettuce was a little to close to its last leg--brown spots and fairly wilted. Regardless of the salad it will be hard to not order this sandwich every time. We were a little surprised and disappointed that they don't have any espresso, but they have a large selection of teas and the coffee is decent and bottomless. read more

Stopped by this morning and had the worst service or lack of service ever. Me and my husband waited about 15 minutes for a table got a table and the server support staff lady came up and got us drinks. She brought them back and told us the server would be right with us to take our orders. That is where our service stopped. No one ever came to take our order we watched people get seated and their orders be taken and there we sat like we didn't exist we finally got up to leave no one noticed no staff even said bye. Then I went back in and told them we weren't helped and left the server waved us down to apologize as we were pulling off saying that they would help us now but honestly I'd never go back that's not how you treat people. read more

Empty coffee cups & water glasses are inexcusable in such a small restaurant. Not checking back on your table AT ALL when the food is received? Nope. Ruth's is a great place, good food, fun atmosphere, but if you get stuck with one of their many lousy servers (kiss of death), you won't get to enjoy it. They seriously need a training class for "some" of their staff, because there are other staffers that are awesome. I originally gave Ruth's 5 stars & the food still attests that rating, but...I keep getting HORRIBLE service. It's always the same waitress and I don't know her name because She doesn't introduce herself. Sweet smile, light brown hair, awful server. When she greats me it's like the kiss of death for my breakfast. Ruth's is worth the wait for a table, but some of the servers need an actual class on how to wait tables. I loved how this is a secret amazing find in a strip mall and totally unexpected. The decor on the inside, including the bathroom, is fun and distracts from whatever small wait time there is for your food to arrive. The food specials caught my eye and I ordered a scrambled with ingredients I don't remember but were amazing together. My nephew ordered the cheesecake stuffed pancakes and they were mouthwatering although I could only eat a few bites because they were so rich. It would be a great item to share as a sort of breakfast dessert. I will absolutely return. read more

My husband works in the area and I often meet him for lunch. Even though there are a ton of dining choices, if given the option I always ask to go for Ruth's Cafe. The food is just terrific, a full 5 stars. We like to get the lunch combos, pick two, cup of soup, salad or half sandwich (the cup soup portion is impressive, bowls are even bigger!). Or, we order something savory and something sweet, then share. Cheesecake pancakes, ever so tasty. Salad sammies, yum. Breakfast dishes, outstanding. Biscuits and gravy heaven. Cute decorating. But I ordered tea and got coffee. The people at the table next to us after receiving their food took one bite and got up and left. They needed to turn the heat up. We were eating with our coats on. The food was average. They did offer a lot of different items on their menu. It was packed. The new Indianapolis governor and his wife were trying it out. In our very first trip to Ruth's we were not at all let down. I got the lefse, which is a buttery, cinnamony, crepe-like wonder, and my husband got an omelet with asparagus, ham, and feta cheese. People, if you've never tried lefse you should leave now to head to Ruth's. Husband's omelet was fluffy and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. We came to Ruth's cafe with a large group of middle school and high school girls. The staff was super accommodating and worked to make sure everyone had a seat. The girls absolutely LOVED the decor and their interactions with the staff (Shout out to Katie). The food was SO good-pancakes larger than your face, fun variations of grilled cheeses, great brunch options, yummy teas with odd mugs. We wanted to take this group of girls to a fun cafe with great food that was reasonably priced, and we certainly found that with Ruth's cafe. We look forward to returning! Thanks! read more

I am very disappointed. I have come here every time I've been in town and have loved the food! This time when we walk in there is nobody at the hostess stand and there was no sign to inform us that it is seat yourself. We were waiting for a few minutes when a lady came in behind us and walked right in and sat herself down at a table for 2. A minute after this a hostess came to the front and asked for our name to put us on the wait list and when we informed her that the lady cut us in the line she didn't do anything about it and this lady continued to sit at the table and not say anything despite her knowing of the situation. We asked the hostess if she could ask the women to move (she had not been seen by a waitress yet or even gotten addressed by any staff) we were told "there was really nothing she could do" and she "couldn't do it". It's truly unfortunate because we have loved and came back to this place for a couple years. Really wish we would have known of the seat yourself, and the hostess could have been faster to greet us and more helpful about this situation. read more

True story: I didn't go to Ruth's for five years because a server was rude to me. Five years. I don't know what I was trying to prove, but I can tell you that was stupid, because this food is fantastic. I came back today for lunch with a friend and we had a wonderful experience. My friend is on some pretty serious dietary restrictions, and they answered all of her questions, going back to check with the kitchen on several items. She really enjoyed her salmon/avocado salad. I asked the server to help me decide between the chicken salad and crab cake sandwich and she didn't hesitate to say chicken salad. She was right. I don't know what's in this stuff, but it is amazing--not too mayonnaise-y--and I loved the swiss and butter lettuce that came on the sandwich. Needless to say, this restaurant revived our hope for Indy Cuisine. We were hesitant to go considering it was in a strip mall, and considering our previous dining experiences during our first-ever stay in Indy, but went because it was on the way to our kayak trip on the White River. Didn't disappoint! The atmosphere was to die for, it was SO cute. Every inch of the walls were covered in little pictures of furniture or a mural of a town square, or fun little life sayings. It was so so cute. The food was, once again, overpriced, but I managed to squeeze by with a coffee, bacon, and a lefse. The lefse (was that it?) was seriously good and seriously cheap, so I highly recommend, and the service was pleasant but a bit slow. All in all we enjoyed our brunch experience at Ruth's.
