Was so delicious. My sister wanted to come here for her birthday. The service was good and so was the food. The location can be kind of stressful, since it's downtown it's hard to find parking. We ordered red wine, salad, soup, steak, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and lobster Mac n cheese. Everything was pretty much as you would expect of a Ruth Chris's creamy, buttery, delicious. Steak melted in my mouth. The only possible complaint I could have is I remember the lobster Mac n cheese being better in Seattle but, it was so long ago I can't really compare. Would definitely come back for a special occasion, but it would be hard to regularly attend a chain when Austin has so many other unique restaurants to try. read more

My husbands & I favorite dinner place. more his than mine. we always get the best waiters! this last time we made a last minute reservation because my husband was craving it so bad. we arrived 10 minutes late because we could not find parking & valet did not help us after we tried parking there (there was a open spot) I got to the front & waited a while until someone I've never seen there told me they were closing & I said "I have a reservation at 9, if you guys cant seat us at 9 why does it let me make a reservation for that time?" He said that we could be seated so im not sure why his first sentence to me was that they are closing soon with out even being greeted. Our server Cameron was the nicest we've had & we've had great service before. Even though the kitchen was closing he was very polite & we hurried to order our food. We went in with reservations @ 8 Friday evening. Beautiful ambience. Then it went downhill. Our server was very nice, but for some reason the food took a really long time. First the salads then entree. Really long time & it was not very busy. Salads & cocktails were good. Perfect martini. But the filets were overdone & dry. ( I ordered med rare) the shrimp & lobster good but one lobster tail noticeably tastier than the other. The manager made an obligatory quick stop at our table. We didn't feel like a conversation. The only down fall to this establishment is that normally you'd have to take out a second mortgage, sell a kidney, and hit at least all the numbers but the power ball to be able to eat here! The food... awesome! The drinks... awesome! The service... superb! The ambiance... decadent! The cost... fall out after receiving the bill high! My wife had gotten me a gift certificate for here a while back and we finally decided to use it. The location is nice... right in the heart of down town. We had a reservation so we walked in gave our name and were seated immediately. Just to give you an idea, when we were looking at the wine list and we found a few that we normally would drink at home... the cost was just a bit more then 5x what we would buy it for in the store. 5X! The steak was of course very good... but even in this supposedly steak masters venue we still could not get my wife's Pittsburgh style steak right on the first try... supposed to be medium rare in the middle and charred on the outside... certainly not blue in the middle. We had to send it back the first time. The true stand out was the Lobster MAC n Cheese. (See pic) it was beyond delicious! A large dish loaded with large chunks of lobster in a creamy butter cheesy sauce cooked to perfection! This easily could of been my meal it was sooooo OooooHHHH My Goddie to HOTTIE!! It has been a while since we ate here and I still dream about this dish! It was AWESOME! I took my friend out to celebrate his birthday recently. We both love a good steak, so deciding that Ruth's Chris would be our destination was a no-brainer! The service was on-point, and the food was nothing short of amazing! Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and gave us some excellent recommendations; he answered all our questions with knowledge and a smile. All throughout the meal he appeared whenever our beverages needed refilling and asked us at appropriate times if he could bring us anything else. On to the food! I ordered the petite filet and my friend ordered a ribeye; we both opted for baked potatoes as well. We started with a lobster bisque soup, they brought out some complimentary bread. The soup was to die for and when our main meal came, our steaks literally melted in our mouths - they were seasoned and cooked to perfection, and done exactly as requested (medium rare). To sum it all up - we enjoyed an exquisite dining experience from the time we arrived until the time we departed. That's not a big deal. We were seated in a booth the bar area, where all we get to hear is a drunk woman yelling the F bomb repeatedly at someone in the bar. She was never told to keep it down or asked to leave!! So unprofessional from an establishment requiring me to remove my hat. I am a member of a country club where no hats are required as a sign of respect. A girls weekend for my friend's birthday! We had to reschedule our reservation and the staff was professional and understanding as we were driving in from out of town. Once we arrived the hostess quickly sat us and we were greeted immediately. Our bartender and waitress was Hailee Gregory. She was prompt, efficient, thorough, courteous, and warm and welcoming. The atmosphere was great! A beautiful restaurant, unfortunately they didn't know how to cook my steak! I asked for a medium done steak and first time around they brought me a well done steak, our waiter took it back and brought out a new filet and this one was still cold and raw in the middle. The waiter once again took the filet back and brought out the same steak cooked a bit more but at this point it didn't taste right at all. I've walked by this location many times in the last 4 years and have probably been to other Ruth Chris locations 6 or 7 times but this was the first time coming back in 5 years. I received a gift card from work so we decided to go check out the happy hour. All I can say is, WHAT A MEAL! We decided to go for HH menu instead of just getting one good steak to share so we would have the option to try a few things. We ordered the Rosa Margarita, Pomegranate Martini, Prime Burger, Steak Sandwich and lava cake. The margarita was fantastic and they did not skill on the pour at all. I was a little let down by the martini. It tasted like a good of juice you get from the market. The prime burger was great. A good size Patty that was cooked to perfection. It also came with a huge plate of fries. The highlight of the night was definitely the steak sandwich though. It's served on two soft pieces of garlic bread and filled with three most tender slices of steak I've ever had. You will be in total awe while eating this thing. We finished off with the chocolate cake which was the perfect pallet cleaneser. Best of all, this whole meal cost right around $50 (not including tip). That is unreal! They say you can't have too much of a good thing. Butter is a good thing and Ruth's Chris has way too much of it. When you walk in, the place smells like butter and it smells amazing. Ruth's Chris prides itself on seasoning their steaks with just salt and pepper so that you can really taste the quality of the meat but if they really cared about letting you taste the meat, they really need to scale back on how much butter they use. Don't get me wrong. I love butter, but when that's all you can taste? That's a no no. For how much I paid, I expected better. At least the service was impeccable though! Prior to this visit, I had not been inside Ruth's Chris since it was on Guadalupe (I think). Although I had not been into this location since the facelift, I was blown away. They did an excellent job with the color palate, the design of the bar area, the overall layout and the decor. For example, the bar has a granite top that must be 3-3 1/2 inches thick and it screams "classy place"!. On the right there is a wall finished with cut rocks, which are adorned with metal bats, such a perfect compliment to our Austin bat community. The service was stellar and the staff looked like they were actually enjoying servicing our group. The food and drink is another story....they were excellent. Immediately when we entered the front doors for the event, we were greeted by multiple servers with trays too offer us adult beverages with several options with included: Ruby Red Grapefruit Greyhounds, Old Fashioned, Red Wine, White Wine and Raspberry Cosmopolitans. I sipped on a Greyhound, Old Fashion and a Raspberry Cosmopolitan and they were all equally stellar. They definitely know how to make proper cocktails at Ruth's Chris. Ok now the part you are waiting for...the food. For this event RC was sharing with us some of their new Happy Hour appetizers. They set up a carving station offering Beef Tenderloin (and boy was it tender) and laid out beautiful and bountiful trays of grilled vegetables, cheeses, roasted nuts and fruits. Then they had multiple servers walking around with trays of heavenly bites like mini empanadas, rosemary grilled shrimp, and several others which escape my memory. It's a no-brainer that Ruth's Chris deserves a stop on the 2018 Austin Steakhouse Tour, but the end result on this particular Friday evening was a mixed bag: The staff & service were impeccable as always, but the steak & sides were just okay. Under-seasoned & underwhelmed. Not the one-two combination we expect here. And my first thought was it was our fault for ordering from the value-oriented "Ruth's Classics" selections, but why should that make a difference? Yes, the prix fixe price is a deal, but if it's not going to be as good as the usual big-ticket a la carte items, then don't offer it. Purely subjective. But I get annoyed when I have to look for salt. My dinner companion summed it up nicely: "It's like very good nursing home food." Maybe she should be writing Yelp reviews. And I don't mind if Austin steakhouses seem way more focused these days on great bar food menus & Happy Hour discounts, just make sure we all get the memo. read more
