Dinner tonight for my (early) 50th birthday at Ruth's Chris in downtown Austin. Service was amazing-our waiter, Beau, was fantastic! Very attentive, but not in an intrusive way. I had the filet with the garlic mashed potatoes for a side, husband had the strip steak with the lobster mac and cheese for his side. We both enjoyed a Blueberry Mojito as well. Because it was my birthday, they brought out a small cheesecake for us with fresh berries. It all was very good-would definitely return! Bread and Appetizers (crab cakes and Ahi Tuna) were very good. There was a very large party that came in after we had our appetizers and our order was taken. After that, we saw very little of our waiter. I had to ask the manager where our food was. The filet I ordered was swimming in butter and over-seasoned. They tried to make it right by comping the drinks and appetizers and a cheesecake. For a supposed 5-star restaurant, this was not acceptable. I will not be back. read more

My father had many adventures. While the size of the fish I'm sure was stretched a bit over the years, he always told a tale of taking one of the Scarborough family members hunting in the 50's. Factoring this in, I chose Ruth's Chris for the celebration of what would have been my parent's 40th wedding anniversary. Dad passed last August and while he would have choked at the prices I took my mom for a celebration of the times that they shared. We hung out in the bar both indulging in a Mexican martini before our reservation; happy hour prices are very reasonable. People watching on 6th street adds to the ambiance of the bar. We visited during ARW, but chose an upgrade in the form of Ruth's Classics. For a wee bit more I upgraded to the filet and shellfish trio. Adding to the already perfectly cooked steak served on that near flaming platter perfectly cooked lobster, scallop, and three shrimp. It came with drawn butter for the bounty from the sea; with me "accidentally" dipping rare nuggets of tenderlion...Staggering. Mom's ribeye won equal praise and even impressed for an additional evening. Structured similar to the ARW menu we both enjoyed the salad course. My choice of a Caesar and her Texan favorite wedge. The sides were our only issue with the meal. While my mushrooms arrived hot; we had to ask for mom's creamed spinach. Then, it arrived cold. Staffers imediatly removed the charge on our bill. The also put an additional serving in mom's carry out. Dessert was quite good. A small cupcake size traditional cheesecake paired with chocolate almond clusters. I appreciated that after the total steakhouse carnage the last course was politely minimal. Despite the issue with the side our visit was near immaculate. No third rate citizen treatment as other restaurant week diners had noted. For the occasion, remembering a loved remenising about time and travels. I've been here before doing it steak style and we obviously know they've got that down...so I think I'll do this review non steak style. Beef Tenderloin Skewer - this was amazing. I hate to overuse this word but I feel it is a pretty good way to explain how I feel. The beef was SO tender. The best part was there was no definitely no battle here between me in the skewer on who wins the meat. The meat came straight off the skewer with an easy bite. The flavor was simple you could embrace the quality of the meat. Gumbo - this was explained to me as not your typical gumbo. I actually thought it was pretty good. The okra was not too soft and mushy and the flavor tasted infused. I actually liked that it was not as thick so it was light on the stomach. Garlic Mashed potatoes - nice and creamy with a yummy touch of melted butter swimming on the outside - perfect to make the potatoes even creamier. Scallops with mushroom risotto - I've had my share of undercooked and overcooked risotto and this one was cooked perfectly. That's all I have to say. It added a nice touch to the well cooked scallops. Chocolate turtle cheesecake - decadent. Very rich and creamy. Don't let the size fool you. My favorite restaurant of all time. If you like steak, the filet mignon is the #1 item on the menu. Highly recommend doing the "Ruth's Chris Classics" option where you get an appetizer, steak, side, and dessert for a really decent price. It's not usually on the menu, but ask for the Berries and Cream for dessert. They almost always have it and it's almost better than the steak. You won't regret it even if you are full. read more

I love steak so it only made sense to try this steakhouse! It was for my birthday and I ordered the crab cakes, ribeye and lobster Mac n cheese and some dessert. The ribeye wasn't the most tender steak I've ever had but it was flavorful.The crab cakes were delicious!!! The lobster Mac n cheese literally set my soul on fire! I literally could not go dancing because I needed a nap. It was that good!!!! I did have two cocktails one being the blueberry mix and that was tasty. My dessert was... kinda trash. For starters, my waiter brought it out without me ordering. So I'm thinking, "yay me, freebies". Or nah. The syrup mix was overpowering and then I get the bill and yes I was charged for something I wouldn't have ordered. I have always loved Ruth Chris , but my experience at this location really stuck out amongst the others! The food quality was amazing per usual, but the service was incredible. So let's talk about that SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE wow talk about delicious! I can eat that as a meal itself, and with any main course dish. The perfect side for fried chicken & steak in my opinion. Sweetly puréed sweet potatoes in a hot dish topped with brown sugar and pecan crumbs! It is thee BOMB, I highly suggest you grab that as a side dish. The petite filet & shrimp are literal bite size pieces LOL ok not bite size but the steaks are probably the size of your palm with jumbo shrimp atop. Juicy, tender and full of buttery garlic flavor. The spicy shrimp has a hint of spice and almost has a sweet chili taste to it. Calamari was nice & crisp, super good. We had the BEST server! Let me start off by staying MaKENZIE (how it's shown on her name tag) was one of the must helpful and amazing waitresses. Ruth Chris should be grateful to have such an amazing person. When the steaks came out a little over cooked, she apologized and right away we got our new steaks, without hesitation. Everything was delicious and MaKENZIE took the rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. This is the worst Ruth's Chris I have ever been to. From the food not being up to the RC standard, to the air conditioning not being used. Service is so-so and the ambiance is a bit outdated even compared to some other RC locations. There are too many other places to eat in Austin that offer better food for the same price. I made reservations for my four managers and myself on Monday the 31st for 7:30pm. Around 4pm that day, I was called and offered free appetizers and free dessert for each guest, if we were able to reschedule our reservation as they overbooked that night. I agreed, and scheduled our work appreciation event for the following Monday. When our party arrived, the manager explained that our table would not be a private table as I had requested in the reservation, but actually the table the absolute closest to the front door, and bar. When the manager asked me if this was okay, I said no, and asked what else was available. He said that was the only table they had. I am just curious why I would be asked if the table was suitable, when in fact there would be no other option for our party? I told our server first thing about the complimentary appetizers and desserts for having our reservation rescheduled, and the manager quickly came over to interrogate. He wanted to know who promised us these free items, and wanted us to know that he would never approve such a thing. But he wanted to "work with us" and give us three free appetizers and desserts. I did not come to this dinner to negotiate, so we accepted. He later came back and said he felt sorry and said he would cover four appetizers and four desserts. Just a lot of drama I had no desire to deal with, on top of our undesirable table location for our special work event. Four of the five guests had the complete dinner with desert included, so it did not even matter to worry about comping the desserts. The nice cherry on top was the bill returned to me after i had paid, as the manager had forgotten to put the bottom wine in the bill and needed to add that on. I'm not sure if this is typical for this establishment but it took 3 hours for us to complete our meal from our reservation time. We were told a large group ahead of us made our order take longer to bring our. Just a very bizarre experience for a place we were all very excited to try out, especially with the free appetizers and desserts from having to reschedule our reservation. My family and I love all Ruth's Chris's from the sunny beaches of Hawaii to The Great State of Texas. So, what do you do when it is their anniversary? You go to a trusted favorite. Your old reliable! Thls is what Ruth's Chris is to us. Ruth's Chris is located downtown Austin. I recommend arriving early because of traffiic. We arrived about 10 minutes late. We were seated within five minutes despite our tardiness. Our server for the evening was Beau. The evening was good, expensive but good! I tried one of the seasonal specials which was the Swordfish and Barbecued Shrimp. My wife and my sister had steak while my brother enjoyed the stuffed chicken. The food was delicious as always. The service was subpar in my opinion because my party felt as if Beau did not provide the same level of service to us as he did a few other tables. I had to ask him for extra olives for my dirty martini three times. Finally, I asked another server named Nikki and she brought my olives right out. Now to be fair, Beau did bring my olives out after my drink was finished. My sister and brother were given a complimentary Lemon Cheeacake dessert for their anniversary. It was rather small but it is the thought that counts. Overall, I have frequented better Ruth's Chris but this one was not bad just not good. I have been going to Ruth Chris for years now and i have come to the conclusion that they have just grown too much and became a chain "fine dining restaurant". They have nothing on Perry's, Eddie V's, Joes Seafood and the list continues. My waiter was good and the service was great. The problem comes with the food. I went to Perry's 2 weeks before i went to Ruth Chris and ordered the exact same thing except everything at Perry's was better. Especially the lobster bisque. Will never return to this restaurant. Service was absolutely horrific. Patiently sat at our table for approximately 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Then tried to order from the bar which was directly behind our booth and the two bartenders looked at us with disgust. This has been my second time encountering bad service at this establishment. I feel ripped off! I understand if you're short staffed during these times but you must make adjustments based off that ie. Only seat half the tables or stop service or warn customers. We were a table of 5, appetizers were good, waitress took awhile to take our order, about 30 minutes to get a Diet Coke requested 3 times, but we feel she was doing the best she could under the circumstances, we ordered 5 steaks and 5 sides. The steaks came but no sides. Two steaks were over cooked. One was sent back for a medium rare replacement and was returned charred to a crisp on the outside. So we cancelled that. Everyone was done with their steak and still no sides. We asked the manager about it a 2nd time and he made us feel like we were being overbearing "I already looked into this and we will bring it as soon as possible." As a courtesy they removed the cost of the one steak and the sides. Needless to say we did not go for dessert but still paid $600 of our hard earned money for this bait and switch. We went for happy hour and ordered 4 items on the happy hour menu plus a couple of things on the regular menu. The drinks were good but the food was pretty mediocre and way over seasoned. The burger was not good. Dry and way too salty. The steak sandwich was also pretty blah and over seasoned. The shrimp dish was okay so we ordered another one. The tuna was not good. Granted we weren't ordering 80 dollar steaks because it was early but the happy hour items didn't make us want to order one because there was a god chance we would waste our money. Had the pleasure of dining at Ruth's Chris (Austin) this evening. Enjoyed a great cocktail at the bar while we waited for our table. Once seated, a manager came by and apologized to us for the wait and offered us a free appetizer. I honestly didn't notice the wait because the cocktail was yummy and the conversation was great, but that was very kind so we had the spicy shrimp which were AMAZING! Both our steaks were cooked to perfection and we couldn't resist the lobster Mac which was better than expected. It had a little heat to it which I loved. Shout out to our server Colton whom was the highlight of our dinner. We loved his service and fun personality. AND would've never guessed it was his 2nd night on the floor. So, this review has been a long time coming. I went for the first time over a year ago, and the experience was so thoroughly disappointing that I sent a (very) long email to the manager. He immediately responded, said they would redo some training with our server, offered a gift card and asked for another chance. I was happy to put off my review until then. So my husband and I went back for our 15 year anniversary. We arrived early and were seated right away, though I would have preferred waiting just a minute for them to prepare the table (put out rose petals and remove extra settings) before we were seated. We received star treatment all night. There is something very elegant about rose petals on your table. All the servers and the manager congratulated us on our anniversary. We always had full water glasses. We ordered stuffed mushrooms for the appetizer. Not the best I've ever had, but very yummy. Fresh and buttery. I got the stuffed chicken (I was very torn, but the reviews for it online were all raving). My husband got the NY Strip. We split a Harvest salad and the lobster mac and cheese. I liked the combination in the harvest salad. The lobster mac and cheese was very creamy, and loaded with huge chunks of lobster. One of my lobster bites had a small piece of cartilage in it, I suppose that's what you can expect when you're eating huge chunks of fresh lobster. I did very much love the chicken. It was juicy and flavorful, a generous split breast. Probably the best chicken I've ever had. Loved the cheesy stuffing, and I loved dipping their fresh bread in the stuffing. My husband thought his NY Strip had a bit more fat through it than he would have liked. We got the chocolate duo and the berries and cream for dessert. I highly recommend the chocolate duo; a chocolate lava cake and a cup of chocolate mousse. It was served with fresh berries, and here I was especially impressed. In Dec it is difficult to get berries that are ripe, let alone flavorful. These were both ripe and flavorfull; bright , juicy and sweet berries. Excellent dessert. The manager then offered to cover our dessert, for our anniversary. It was a very kind and unexpected gesture. So, we enjoyed our beautiful evening, and will be back. read more

Is a 6th star an option?!? My husband and are in Austin for the first time and celebrating our 27th Anniversary. Ruth's Chris has exceeded our high expectations in every way. Jason, our bartender, provided perfectly crafted cocktails and spot-on recommendations and advice for local dining, drinks and night life for the remainder of our trip. Host Tori was a delight as she walked us to our private and perfect table. GM Chris greeted, chatted with us and selected our dinner with the utmost care and perfection. Wedge salad and chop salad for starters; Cowboy ribeye steak & Lobster tail for my husband and 16oz, bone in filet with Herb Truffle crust for me; side dishes of sweet potato casserole (Y'all, this is even better than the one I make every year for Thanksgiving dinner!) and scalloped potatoes. Chef Cross came to the table and we are so impressed with the level of service and attention! The broil/steak preparation was perfection. Our server, Brian, was equally attentive and helpful while also providing the right amount of privacy. Reservations for two evening of 6 April. Arrived a little early and got seated immediately. Ordered 2 old fashioneds and the wait began. 15 or so minutes later the waiter came back and said the drinks would be right up. I asked if we could order our dinner and he politely said yes and walked away for about 5 minutes. I was surprised when he came back empty handed to take our order. Another 10 minutes passed and our salads arrived. "Strange, I thought we ordered a couple drinks a long time ago" I said to the person bringing our food. He said he'd let our waiter know. The drinks finally came out with the waiter and he apologized that it took so long. I said we'll live, then took a sip of the very disappointing drink. The ice had melted and watered down the taste. Besides that, it was a warm drink and tasted like it came out of a can or something. I know that's not the case, it likely sat at the bar too long and just got warm. My buddy's ribeye came out perfectly medium rare, mine was medium when it arrived but it was thinner than the other one and was over cooked by the time it stopped sizzling. I've eaten at many other Ruth's before and have had a mixed bag of results from outstanding to this one on the low end of the scale. After paying the bill and feeling completely defeated I informed the waiter that we were not satisfied with our experience but thanked him for his time. For context, the restaurant was not busy, there was one party of about 8 but another team was taking care of them. Bad night I suppose but I don't see a reason to go back there again.
