I would have never guessed walking past this restaurant that it would be as amazing as it was! Definitely a hole in the wall and can be easily missed!! Make sure you do the Reservation online because we did that & still had to wait over an hour! Luckily I had nice company so it went by fast, and It was worth it with the different types of sushi (tip!! Get the salmon it was amazing!!!) and everything was fresh and came out quickly. We also tried the otoro based on other reviews and wow that was tasty! A little pricey but worth it. If you come here, try whatever raw fish they have because it was so fresh really one of the best sushi places I've been to! Ever! There was even a DJ playing and the vibes were super chill and cool. I hope to come back here someday if I go back to CA! read more

I always recommend a visit to Ryoko's to friends that are visiting San Francisco. Their fish and their ambiance is extremely charming and has not been impacted by the Tech Takeover. My favorite nights are usually Fridays and Saturdays. They have a DJ that spins top hits or Japanese hip hop. It's a tight squeeze in the restaurant and every table is tucked away in a corner or has a dark cozy vibe (Pre-Covid 19 vibes). The food is amazing and the fish options are abundant. One of my favorite dishes is the chirashi. The sushi chef's knife skills are amazing - you are never trying to shove an oddly shaped fish chunk in your mouth. Everything can be eaten, comfortably, with a bite. I would also check with the chef or server with what the specials or off menu items are. I've never ordered something here I didn't like. Plan ahead if you do decide to have dinner here. The wait can be pretty long but with dining during COVID-19, they are taking reservations. I'm not sure if this will continue after quarantine lifts, since they did not take reservations before, but I would give them a call when they open. Also, please be aware that the do have limited staff due to occupancy levels so be gentle to the staff, they are doing their best. read more

This sushi place was small so cute ! The waitress was amazing with serving us and giving us recommendations. We got a dragon roll, some uni ( first time) and a house special that has tuna on top. Service was fast. We dined for 2 of us right at 6 and were done a little after 7. Restaurant did fill up fast and they have sushi bar seating as well. This place is SO GOOD! Decent prices and live music on the weekends. It's a great time especially if you want to come after a night out. The sushi is also really fresh and yummy. I would definitely come back. The wait didn't take too long either even on a weekend. read more

Such a gem! Very nice ambience with DJ and nice food. What can be better than sushi with music. We took crispy sushi roll and chirashi bowl and 2 miso soups. Everything was delicious!!! Highly recommend this place. I found out about this place in Tik Tok lol and it was the best!!! read more

This is such a popular joint- and for good reason. It epitomizes the lively, neighborhood Japanese bar with impressively prompt service and delicious food. The wait was half an hour for us on a Thursday night - put your name on the Yelp waitlist prior to arrival and be sure to check-in with the host downstairs. Drinks - sake, beer, and highballs. A favorite was the yuzu highball. Food - Agedashi tofu, hamachi kama (for only $9!), and vegetable tempura all did not disappoint and were prepared flawlessly in terms of flavor and texture. Rolls - I like it simple. Got the Orange Delight with fresh salmon on top (as opposed to the minced spicy salmon), and the Spicy Scallop with no regrets. Come back here for a good time! read more

I had an amazing night at Ryoko's with my husband. We made a last minute reservation and got the best table! It was super private and the service was amazing. Even if the waiters were wearing mask all the time, they were keeping a distance while talking to us. We had the lychee drink and it was amazing. Perfectly balanced! We started with the chicken karaage which was super tasteful and crispy. The sashimi's and sushi's were super fresh and delicious. So what up with the change in menu. No bento, combo, or any type of dinner other than the $60 ...10 piece sushi dinner. What? Yep ...10 pieces of nigiri sushi with a homemade miso soup...holy can we blame this increase on Trump?? lol ...hopefully the price increase is legit, but can definitely find other comparable sushi places for half price. The basic Sushi and tempura were both alright. Prices are relatively high for some of the more complex rolls. While I came here for the raw fish, I would actually recommend trying the grilled mackerel. It was surprisingly savory and delicious! Perfect pairing with some tempura. read more

The food has definitely changed over the last 9 yeaes, but the atmosphere is still nice. The server was attentive and professional, but a little rushed until we pointed out that we wanted to take our time. I was there most recently with my fiance. Had the special which was a California roll with real crab and smelt. Smelt is not our favorite. We tend to stick to basic rolls when we go. The edamame and the spicy tuna roll were good. read more

This was our first time visiting and it was a very experience. We are very much sushi goers so I appreciated the sushi freshness and I like that the list of specialty items were not the typical pieces. I am giving them a four because I wasn't impressed with the soft shell crab, the eel roll, and they were out of miso soup. I advise that if you're looking for high class sushi spot this one isn't it, this one is full of old school charm mixed with untraditional - I loved that most about this place. read more

I think Ryoko sushi is fine, it was not as great as I was expecting. Not sure if we just came on a bad night (it wasn't really that busy so no wait). We had a variety of sushi but the fish didn't taste super fresh, the rice was a little hard, the roll technique was kinda messy. It definitely didn't have the finesse that we like from sushi- definitely a more grungey experience. Which isn't bad in itself but definitely a vibe. Our favorite was the grilled mackerel, it was super flavorful. Service was also good, they checked up on us frequently and talked a bit. read more

Ryoko's was definitely delicious. It was my first time coming here and they did not disappoint. The chicken karaage was soo good! It was the right amount of crispy. Pokémon roll and hot tuna roll is a must try. Their o-toro was delicious as well. I feel like for the amount they charge for the rolls it should come with more than 6 pieces. Highly recommended the dj nights - the guy know what he is doing - In terms of sushi : tahoe, salmon delight and shrimp symphony are our favorites, besides sushi, you should also try the croquette - the sauce is amazing. Been meaning to review this place for a long time but procrastinated because it's my neighborhood joint and I drop in occasionally; i.e., it's so normalized yet reliable that I don't think of writing a review. As a neighborhood joint, it's one of perhaps three of the later sushi spots you can hit up at 1:00am, so I forget that just because I'm a bored insomniac on a Saturday, I can and will run into late night crowds. This place is always hopping on the weekends. I love it, and the security attendant outside is a dear man to chat with while you wait. The wait is worth it. The quality is surprisingly authentic and as you walk down the stairs into the intriguing intimate and ambient space you are greeted with the hustle and bustle of a very popular venue. On weekends a DJ attends an eclectic playlist and the sushi chefs are hard at work with nary a moment to spare-- don't expect them to have time to share a shot with you and shoot the scheisse. They have cocktails and extensive alcohol offerings but I usually opt for a reasonably priced small house hot sake; I often add greenery in the form of salad, and I stick to nigiri or some fresh maki. Okay, I really love their veggie tempura roll which feels criminal to order considering their fish nigiri is so fresh and delicious. But the catch of the day can be pricey, because it is that fresh. Not gonna lie, I have a crush on one of the sushi chefs so I come in for "ambiance" and just enjoy relaxin'. :D But these guys are super skilled and from a culinary standpoint I admire how fast and proficient they work. No BS. The service FOH team are also fast and super cohesive, they take good care of me and as a single person in a busy joint, I appreciate their respect, effort, and service. read more

In town for a short time and wanted to experience it to the fullest. The ambiance of the restaurant is great for an energetic experience. I started with the fried cheese appetizer, I was not disappointed, they do a really good spin on the classic fried cheese. I then had the o toro nigiri, hot yellow roll, and another fried roll (forgot the name). Every single bite I had made me want more. While visiting San Francisco for a long weekend we came here on our last night on a whim. We waited about 30 min and the head waitress told us she's be making room for us! She sat is down near the DJ! The DJ had some good tunes and it was a fun lively restaurant (a little small). We were vibing to the music and ordered a whole lot of food and beer. We ordered rolls, eel sashimi, shrimp and veggie tempura. It is a pretty large menu and something for everyone. We all enjoyed our food and our waitress (don't remember her name) was lovely, fun and came to check up on us various times ( she was the older Asian woman w glasses and the big bright smile). She was vibing to the music as much as we were. She made our meal so much fun. We absolutely loved this place and so happy we found it! read more

Hmmm, i get that this is a popular place but the service seems to be lacking. The wait was about 45mins - but my bad for not Yelp reserving ahead of time. For the wait however, you'd think that either the service would be amazing or food would be. I think all of it was just OK. We had the tonkatsu, agedashi tofu, pokemon roll, and some shrimp roll. The tonkatsu was almost too chewy, the agedashi tofu was not even a little and too salty, and the shrimp roll was pretty underwhelming IMO. The only notable dish was the pokemon roll but even that was just OK. The mangao addition and the non-nori cover were interesting at most... but that all with the slow service, i'd say my experience was very meh overall. They could definitely use more servers... Given that SF also adds fees + tip overall I don't know if it was really worth the hype Yelp shows here... Maybe I'll try again when it's less busy. read more

Ryoko's has been a favorite of mine since I first moved to San Francisco! I stopped by again recently with a friend for dinner and had an excellent meal. The venue was not too busy for a Tuesday, but still lively. We were seated towards the back under the stairs. We shared a few rolls and had a few Sapporos, here's what we got: Tempura - This came with two pieces of shrimp and an assortment of veggies. I just wish this had two pieces of everything, because I missed out on a pumpkin piece! Kentucky Roll - This is basically a chicken katsu roll! Not traditional, just good. Alcatraz Roll - Avocado and eel, some of my favorite things. Also quite good. Negihama Roll - This one was just simply good. Mochi Ice Cream - Essentially 2 pieces of mochi-wrapped ice cream bon bons chopped into quarters. Not the best, had some frostbite but was still a nice end to the meal. We tried to order Uni but they were sold out! Overall a great experience, as usual. You can't expect the absolute best ever, just a quaint, funky little sushi spot with good vibes. It's a small dive-bar feeling sushi place w/ a security guard out front. We stopped by on a weekday for dinner and there were no wait. The service was good and very fast. We ordered the sashimi platter and soft shell crab - the food came out very quickly and everything was good. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it's hard to go wrong with fresh sashimi. I think for SF prices, it's pretty reasonable. read more

First off, the vibe in this place kinda felt like you somewhere else not in SF. The music in this place is spot on. The staff & waitress are always a fun time. & of course the food is delicious. I was a bit skeptical on the mango in the sushi (Pokémon roll) but it actually taste good. We also had agedashi tofu, onigiri, & sparking sake. All the dishes & drinks were good. I've been wanting to try this Japanese Restaurant for a while now and really stepping up my seafood/sushi game. Maybe I'm practicing for Omakase soon. This time we had the Jumping salmon/Unagi rolls, Hamachi Nigiri, Tako Wakame, and Takoyaki. It was my first time trying Tako Wakame and Hamachi and would definitely get it again! All the sushi was delicious but I definitely have more of the menu to explore for next time No reservations, street parking, and Yelp wait list. Definitely join the waitlist early before you get there. Atmosphere was nice and cozy, bar looks uncomfortable. Service could have been better. I came here for a New Year's Eve dinner and was pretty disappointed. Ryoko's is a hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant best known for their Kentucky Roll (i.e. a deep-fried chicken roll). The food is average. I wanted the teriyaki salmon but they were all out, so I settled for the Saba Shioyaki and Ryoko's salad. Both were bland and something I could have made at home. However, the Unagi (freshwater eel sashimi) was delicious! The place itself is casual but very crowded (I'd recommend making a reservation). We came here with a group of 10 and got seated quickly, which was nice. However, the food was not great. We mostly got rolls, and they are all pretty small with around 4-5 pieces for one roll. I personally tried the Tahoe roll ($17.80 MP) and the orange delight roll ($17), and I have to say that both the tuna and salmon were not that fresh and very overpriced. There're better sushi in SF for better prices for sure. read more

Out of all the food we tried the sushi rolls were definitely the best! Beef teriyaki was lacking in the flavor department, lacking as in zero flavor at all. And it was really small for the price. The croquettes weren't my favorite and neither was the chicken. The dragon roll was delicious though. If I came back it would be for the ambiance and dragon roll only! This place is quite hard to miss, as it's just a door with their signage at the top. If you didn't know, you'd probably just pass by or think it's a club, as theres a security guard outside. Once you enter, you take the stairs down to the dining area. The whole thing felt very retro; from the piano player, to the carpeted floors and all the cool vintage art. The hostess sat us down immidiatley and then informed us that the food may be a little delayed there was only one sushi chef that night, then apologized in advance. Super professional, friendly, polite staff. One thing I had to get was the takoyaki. It was good quality, although their octopus to dough ratio was quite low. I felt like they could have added more octopus in it. Miso soup was great. I was underwhelmed with the sushi options honestly, and I felt that there was a lack of tuna in their menu, and tons of options with imitation crab. I ended up with the rainbow roll, which was alright. Fish was fresh, but I felt it lacked some flavor. I had never seen tobiko on a rainbow roll and honestly, they could have done without, it was a little much. Overall, pretty average sushi. read more

Super solid place!! The sushi was good, and they had a lot of unique options. We tried the Volcano roll, and it had peanut butter, which was an pleasant surprise. I got the We've Got the Beet cocktail with mezcal, beet reduction, ginger, fresh citrus, thyme and firewater bitters. I love mezcal's smoky flavors and was drawn to the combination of ginger, citrus and mezcal flavors in the drink. The cocktail was very good and had a nice smokiness from the mezcal, along with the kick from the ginger and zest from the citrus, creating a refreshing and tasty drink. My friend got the About Thyme, with gin, blackberry liquor, black pepper thyme syrup and fresh citrus. We both really liked his drink as well, which had an interesting kick from the black pepper thyme syrup that offset the gin and blackberry liquor nicely. While we only had time to grab a drink each, we were both very happy with the drinks and would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.

For reasons I undoubtedly have yet to fully access, I find the preparation of sushi leaps and bounds more entertaining than any other kind of food to watch. Something about the minimalistic movements that are as sharp and defined as the knife being wielded, the loving, surprisingly tender touch that all decent sushi chefs use on every piece of fish they encounter, and the sheer amount of pure human contact that is required to create even the most basic nigiri roll combine to make a spectacle that I find as engaging as at least many of the things you could imagine. The chefs at Ryoko's are kind enough to do their work in plain view - common to sushi restaurants, to be sure, but still something I appreciate, as I know it's not easy to perform for your constituents throughout the course of a night. As you duck under the plastic banners proudly proclaiming "SUSHI" and attempt to avoid stumbling down the steep stairs that comprise the entrance to a low, dark space encrusted with decorations that transition effortlessly from the classy to the kitschy and back without taking a breath, every staff member within sight will lob a few phrases of welcoming Japanese in your direction and a friendly waiter will immediately approach you, directing you to either the high bar surrounding the chefs' area or one of the low tables scattered throughout the dimly lit restaurant. I'm particularly fond of the outlandishly large, pitch black skull adorning the piano that's located roughly in the center of the main room. I have yet to see anyone playing it, but presumably there's music drifting around at least sometimes. The staff here is attentive and effusive almost to the point of comedy - even when I'm just grabbing a few rolls to take home, a minimum of three waiters are guaranteed to approach me and ask if I need anything. Should I attempt to demur, they'll ply me with water and edamame anyway, and do their very best to make me feel at home for the fifteen minutes I'm joining them. The fish itself is always fresh and delicious, although it definitely trends towards the lower-medium end of the quality scale. In this instance it's nothing to complain about however, as for the prices they charge I firmly believe it would be impossible for them to acquire something significantly nicer and still keep the place running. Rolls are assembled quickly and efficiently, but show signs of said process, and are often at least a little bit messily mashed together. But since you're planning on them entering your gullet anyway, is it really all that important? "Arigato gozaimasu" will hauntingly follow you up the same stairs as you exit, which are hopefully a little harder to navigate due to the extensive liquor selection, as you wander off to wherever life takes you next. read more

After a long evening of drinking and wandering around town a food craving hits and yelp is quickly consulted. After a brief search we come across ryokos and are stunned well reviewed sushis open till 2am!!!? We immediately decided we needed to verify the authenticity of this statement and head on over. After a brisk 15 minute walk from our hotel we arrive and walk down the steps into a cozy little place with nice dim lighting a good sized bar and a pretty decent amount of seating. Now we rolled into here around 130 and were still served with a smile which we thought boded well. After placing orders for chicken katsuuge for myself and spicy tuna roll and unagi for jay and my lady we decided hey why not have some sake too so ordered that as well. As we are sitting waiting for food the people at the next table over ask us if wed like to hear some music to which we of course say yes as we all play music in one form or another. As it turns out the pair are touring the country visiting colleges and playing and teaching experimental contemporary classical music and have a website called soundingofftour.com that we later checked out. While im not the biggest fan or most knowledgable person as far as classical music what they played was enjoyable and definitely made our night its allways great to see people so passionate about music. While we enjoy the music our waitress swings by drops off our food and takes a seat to listen to the music( it was just us in there). The chicken is awesome perfectly hot ,crispy,and juciy. The sushi as reported by those able to eat it ws terrific. Where else can you get terrific service awesome food and cool people at 130am? I recently visited this sushi restaurant that left a lasting impression with its warm hospitality and cozy ambiance. Decent little spot to grab some Japanese food during your late night excursions. This restaurant stays open every night 'till 2am. Yup, 'cuz that's how they roll. Party rock is in the houuuuse toniiiiiight! It does, in fact, give off that night club type of vibe. It's also nice to know that there are 'okay' options for food that late into the night. I've only ordered simple appetizers from here which included the hiyayako, the yakitori, and the ochazuke. All were fine and all, but what disappointed me was that it took close to a whole grueling hour before I finally received any food... Not to mention that the actual hiyayako dish that I ordered is quite literally two simple cuts of chilled tofu with bits of garnish on top. Does it really take that long to prepare hiyayako? I thinketh not! Otherwise, the ochazuke was probably my favorite among the appetizers. Tasty, homey, and perfect in either the pickled plum or salmon variation. Another very simply prepared dish. The servers were very nice and apologetic. Although Ryoko's takes forever and ever to push out the grub, I believe in second chances... We went to Ryoko while vacationing in San Francisco and we were pleasantly shocked with the friendliness of the entire staff and the high-quality sushi we ate there. From the first moment we walked in and were greeted by all the sushi chefs to the moment we said our goodbyes, the time we spent at Ryoko was magical. When we looked at the menu, we weren't sure what to get. It seems that each city has their own "rolls" and names for certain things. Not wanting to eat the same ol' sushi in just a different place, we looked to our server. The help Raiku (I am probably spelling her name wrong) gave us as we worked toward finding the perfect dinner for us (she asked us what we liked, didn't like, etc to craft an amazing dinner for us) was spot-on perfect. Hamachi toro was super-fresh and tasty (and imported from Japan) as was the Ikura (the best I've ever had!). The miso soup was incredibly tasty and the "house salad" was a tangy/spicy sesame ginger that was a gift to the tastebuds. The oolong iced tea was refreshing and light, and the food (all of it) was fresh, tasty, and exactly what we needed; a great night of sushi indulgence. What a cool, hip, weird, and odd sushi restaurant slash bar. The food here was excellent and the price was perfect. I hate going to a Japanese sushi restaurant and paying an exorbitant price for itsy bitsy food. We had the chicken kara-age which was actually very good, and because the sushi chef knows my friend, he gave us some cool side dishes, which I do not know the names of. The sushi chef - is his name Sushi?? or Ashi?? crap, me and my memory - gave us kind of an omakase style dinner. My friend just told him to give us whatever was excellent on the menu that day, and he did. We had the typical hamachi and salmon nigiri (mostly because I asked for it), but he also gave us saba and mirugai and uniiiiiiiiiiii. Mind you, I HATE uni... but for some reason, this one was really good and the color of it was bright and fresh looking. I couldn't eat the whole one piece of uni nigiri, but I managed to eat half of it little by little throughout the night, with my california roll. Great sushi, crazy busy, tiny room. Walked in at 7, solo, planning to sit at the sushi bar. The stairs leading down to this dark basement joint were packed. I saw a empty seat at the bat so I went for it, but a bag was on it, saving it for a party's friend who was late. I stood there for 15 minutes, occasionally glancing at the empty seat. The servers didn't seem pleased with the lost seat, either. Waiter brought all of us drinks while we waited; nice move. Eventually the group invited me to take the empty seat, and as thanks I bought them a round of sake. Well that was a boss move apparently, as we immediately hit it off and had a great time sharing sushi and stories, and more sake! Great vibe in this place, though the volume of people waiting was shocking. Apparently the waits continue deep into the night, so I got lucky. Great tunes playing. Sushi was delicious, fresh, and generous. I liked the 49ers roll but probably wouldn't order it again at $13. Fatty Tuna was incredible. Food portion to Price ratio: 4 stars They have a larger selection of sushi than every Japanese place I've been to. Although their portions aren't as big their pricing for most sushi plates is low enough to buy two sets and still be under $20. I hate biting down on sushi that requires two bites anyway. Taste: 5 stars I LOVE sushi so I'd come here again on a daily basis if I didn't live in the east bay. Environment: 4 stars Perfect place to be social. The music was slappin' and the people are fun to talk to. Only thing is, it's not a big location so it's pretty crowded Wait time: 3 stars Average wait time for 2 is about 30 mins. A group is about 45 - 55 mins. Definitely worth the wait though. You'll lose your place if they call your name and you're not there so don't leave! The most amazing sushi in San Francisco. I only eat salmon roe at one place, Ryoko's. Everywhere else I've been for sushi, and I mean everywhere, cannot hold a candle to the freshness and the quality of ingredients that Ryoko's has to offer. I'd never before had Barricuda, and they had it as a special sashimi plate one night, and it was amazing!!! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the Chirashi dish that they make special just for me! Sure, they have Chirashi as an item, but the one they make for me is made up of my personal favorites: Mackarel, Big Eye Tuna, salmon roe, and halibut, on rice. It's BEAUTIFUL! The staff is always friendly and take great care of me. I love the live dj's they have playing deep house, trip hop and chillout music too! It's wonderful. Well worth the money, which is about the same as other sushi places, but with much higher quality. read more

This place is a great late night sushi joint. The service is good and everyone is always so happy here, including the customers. The ambience is neat, there's a DJ playing every now and then (or at least that's what my friend says... I've never seen one there), and you rarely have to wait. The sushi chefs can't speak English but they try to talk to you and ask you what you like, so that's always cool. There's new stuff on the menu all the time and we always ask the chef what he recommends today. After a late night of work, this is definitely a cool, comfortable place to come to. It's not that expensive and it's familiar. I don't know what it is about this place, but it's cozy. I like it. read more

Great vibe, great food, great service, great music. I am shocked that I have never been here in all the years I lived nearby. Maybe because every time we tried to eat here it was super busy...and rightly so, it is a pretty great place and people know about it. We waited for about 10 minutes but by the time we finished, there were about 20 people waiting on the stairs. Come early, order anything off the menu and chances are it will be delicious, have shiso in it and be fresh and well-made. The dinner set us back about $100 for the two of us, including tip and two large bottles of beer. Parking was a bitch though, so either cab it or park in a lot. Cant wait to go back! read more

So happy to have gotten a table on my first try, my first visit to Royko's! Was expecting to wait the typical 45 mins, but somehow we were able to be squeezed in. Ok atmosphere is legit. Definitely the hippest sushi bar I've ever been to. With the DJ spinning, it's almost like being at a club in Tokyo, or even a sushi bar in downtown Tokyo-super cool! The food was pricy, but we knew that going in. The presentation could have been better, but it was still on point. I loved all the rolls we ordered, but the stand out was for sure the UNI!!! I chose this place bc it was near to our hotel in SF. I read good reviews about it on Yelp and kept telling my friends to give it a try even though the wait time was like almost an hour. Their sashimi is good but its a lil pricey. Its 6 bucks for 2 pieces of thin salmon while at other better places its 15 dollars for almost 20 pieces. Their rolls are ok quality but expensive too. Plus this restaurant is small, it could get really noisy as getting busy. The staff looked annoyed and looked at us as if we dont have money to pay for our meal. Went here after a long night of drinking with my family and a couple of friends. We were hungry and looked for a place to eat. We started yelping and found this place that opened till 2 AM? We were like what we have to try it out. This place has good reviews and opens late. Perfect Combination. We went here and it was weirdly decorated. It felt a little too much but that's the beauty of it. A group of 5 of us ordered 10 rolls worth of sushi. I wished I remembered what they were but I don't. I Just remembered going here. I've been coming to Ryoko's for years, and it's always been one of my favorite spots in the city. The place has an incredible underground vibe that's hard to find anywhere else, and the fact that they sometimes have a DJ just adds to the cool, laid-back atmosphere. The sushi here is consistently good, with fresh ingredients and creative rolls that never disappoint. Oishii - that's one word Japanese description for this place (means it's delicious) Place is open till 11 which is good for people who crave food late in the night. Ordered- Plum onigiri: best pickled onigiri ever. Period. It's a must try if you like pickled veggies. Shiitake rolls: loved it. A must try as well Fried cheese: loved it. A must try as well. I came here with a few friends after a day of shopping. We were famished and got right down to business. We ordered a ton of appetizer dishes and sushi - all of which were delicious! I really enjoyed everything we ordered! The sushi was fresh and I really enjoyed the chicken karage, futomaki roll, and seaweed salad. We also ordered a roll that was a bit spicy that I can't remember the name of, but it was AMAAAZING! Since the first visit, my friends and I have been back at least once a week. Great! Around the corner from my new apartment so that makes it rank high on the list. The rolls are all tasty, i love love the flying (or maybe jumping?) california roll is pretty great, we always end up ordering extra of those to finish off the dinners. The place is tiny and funky, has an old grand piano in the middle where they cleverly have a DJ stand set up. Total hole in the wall with great service,... slight funny smell to it though but it's worth it because we always have a good meal and a good time. My meal apparently wasn't memorable enough to motivate me to visit this location, that is, until quite recently. I decided to have lunch here after a nearby medical appointment. It wasn't crowded at all. Only a couple of solo diners and a loud senior couple. I wasn't in a sushi mood and thought I'd go healthy with the saba shioyaki. However, at the last minute, I went with the $19 Ika Yaki, a whole BBQ squid sliced and saturated in teriyaki sauce with a dab of shichimi mayo (Photo 8). The portion was generous and the texture was firm with enough elasticity. Unfortunately the teriyaki sauce did nothing to enhance the dish, and I wished they served it on the side. I also ordered the $8 Agedashi Tofu, usually a foolproof appetizer for me. It certainly looked right (Photo 9), but I was unpleasantly surprised how tongue-burning hot it was. The cubes of tofu must've just come right out of the deep fryer. The dashi broth helped calm the heat down but a little too late. I'm sure glad I sprung for the $3 bowl of Rice (Photo 10). That calmed what was left of my tongue down. For drinks, we tried the Matcha Beer, Yuzu soda, and Ume soda. The ramen was decent, but the broth wasn't particularly memorable. The standout dish was definitely the chicken karaage. It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and incredibly tender. As for the drinks, it was my first time trying Matcha Beer, and it had a unique and interesting flavor. The Yuzu Soda and Ume Soda were both refreshing and delicious, though they leaned toward the sweeter side.
