Safe Movers came to my rescue when I needed them the most. I had stored most of my belongings in a storage unit Oakland while purchasing a home. Late on a Saturday afternoon I received a call from the storage facility that there had been a major flood. I had a jam-packed unit and many boxes and furniture were sitting in water. I had no idea how I was going to go through the damaged items and move everything so late on a Saturday. My friend called around to several moving companies and none were able to help with such short notice except safe movers. They were there within an hour and were absolutely amazing! Nick began by asking me how I was doing, which was just what I needed. He and his crew began removing my things from the storage unit around 6:15 as my friends and I photographed the damage. The movers were very careful with my belongings, even items that were soaked and probably going to a dumpster. Nick even pointed out water damage I missed for me to photograph for my records. By 9:00 Nick and his crew had me all moved from into my house in Alameda. I expected to pay through the nose for this last minute move and tremendous service, but my bill wound up being $385! These guys were just fabulous. I needed a cabinet moved that is tall, heavy and awkward from a UHaul into my living room. I scheduled with Nick a day before I needed it moved, and they came out right on time and carried it in. This cabinet is almost impossible to pick up - normally you have to do it with moving straps on either side - but they did it. I was just as impressed with their attention to detail in terms of placing it, helping me adjust the multiple feet on the bottom of the cabinet, and making sure everything was clean before they left. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. CANNOT RECOMMEND UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. We booked our move with Safe Movers roughly 3 weeks in advance. We let them know that we live on a hill, and that there are 32 steps from the curb to our front door. On the day of the move, a Safe Movers crew arrived, and immediately discovered that the parking brake on their truck was "not strong enough" to safely park the truck on our street. They said they would be back with another truck. That second truck had the same problem: a parking brake in poor enough shape that they could not park on our hill. They offered to come back with a smaller truck which would require a two-trip move instead of a one-trip move. They said we would still be charged by the hour. When we called Safe Movers and spoke to a manager, he immediately took an angry, combative stance with us. He actually said, "This is not my fault! I cannot control the environment! You live on a hill!" It didn't matter to him at all that we had alerted Safe Movers to the fact that we live on a hill. He accepted zero responsibility for the state of his trucks. He refused to cut us a break on the hourly rate given that our crew would now have to load a smaller truck twice. That crew worked like dogs, and we had no complaint with them. They told us that snafus like this "happen all the time" because the Safe Movers folks who work the phones "never pass any details on to the actual moving crews." Bottom line, these people are fuckers. If you hire them, don't be surprised when you get screwed. read more

Chico IS the man! But guess what..so are Randy and Donald, his faithful, reliable, even humble movers. My day, starting off on that Wednesday, was a nightmare, but this had nothing to do with Safe Movers. It was because "5-Star Movers" out of Sacramento, headed by a guy named Josh, failed to show up at the 10am designated time. My parents and I scrambled after that, on the phone trying to find same-day, last minute help from other moving companies. Indeed their responses were stressful to our ears, ranging from: "none of my guys are available at the moment", or "we'll have someone for you on Monday" to my least favorite comment of "It'll only cost you $490 today", courtesy of Starving Students. Now mind you, we'd already had the budget-consciousness to rent our own U-haul truck and were handling the drive from Oakland to Sacramento. But it just killed me that Starving Students was STILL going to charge their regular rate! Finally, as my Dad and I were about to hit the avenue to try to find some day-laborers we could pay to help us load the truck, my Mom called my cell and brightly proclaimed, "I found someone and he'll send two of his guys within the hour! Also they'll only charge us $240 out the door." Let me tell you something, it was the best $240 I've ever spent! Per my Mom, Chico was enthusiastic and empathetic from the start of the phone conversation, and most importantly, he could provide an answer to our dilemma. He said he'd send two men between 1pm and 1:15pm that day, and that's exactly when Donald and Randy showed. Not only were they extremely efficient, careful and quick with the moving task, they were respectful, engaging, energetic and funny as well. I mean, we really enjoyed the whole experience. Happily, we paid them and made sure to get hugs as they left. After all, that's just the type of family we are. From the beginning of the call to their boss, Chico, to the time the guys pulled the latch down on the loaded truck, we realized we had been in the presence of angels. And by the way, we could only rate Safe Movers 5 stars because Yelp doesn't allow 10 star ratings! read more

I have a moved a few times, and I am glad to say this experience was the best that I have had with moving. Initially Nick came to review the scope of work and then gave me a fixed price. I prefer fixed prices because I don't want to worry about time and material. The schedule was to pack on day 1 and move the second day. The crew (I can only remember the name Chico) arrived on time on day 1, and finished packing. There was more than enough material, and they packed EVERYTHING with great care. They were again punctual on day 2 and completed the move. Our new house is on a hill so the crew had to work really hard - but they did it with energy. The complete experience was fantastic. There is so much happening with a move that the last thing you want to worry about is micro-managing the team of movers. I could not have been happier.... read more

I think they did a great job with the move as they were very punctual and did everything very quickly. Reggie, Shawn and another guy were very prompt with what they did. However, post the move, I realized that there was one bag with not so expensive stuff in it which had remained in the truck. It was a black bag and probably got camouflaged in the inside of the truck. I didnt double check it and realized it on the next day. They didnt do a thorough check either. When I called, I got confirmation that the bag has been placed in a safe place but they are not willing to come down and give it back to me immediately. They way I look at it, its a lapse on their part (and partly mine) and their response is simply that they are in Oakland and if they get a job in San Jose, the will give my items back. I have followed up a few times and I havent got any assurance that I will get my items back. That seems very unprofessional to me, as they are worried about the cost of driving from Oakland to San Jose and not too concerned about keeping a customer happy. I have worked with others in the past who have been more professional and thorough. I wish I could recommend them based on the work they did, but this is a big lapse in my eyes and their non-willingness to correct it gives them 2 stars or maybe less. ***EDIT : @owner I wrote this review a while ago and just got a response now while the owner was responding to some other person with the same name. Rather than acknowledging the problem and/or fixing it, calling the review a bogus review isn't doing you a great deal of good. Fact of the matter is, I lodged several complaints via phone and spoke with different people in the office (back in March/April) and no one assured me that my bag will be returned. Doesn't deserve a 5 star average rating. When booking 5 days out, all the other companies were booked except Safe Movers...this should tell you something. The actual move day was only okay - their rates are higher than the competition and the two workers didn't work with a sense of urgency. I helped with the labor and if I didn't, the job would have taken much longer than it did. They complained of being tired and about their next job. I thought all of this was highly unprofessional. They also broke an item and didn't apologize or compensate - they just toyed with it and said 'still works,' even though the wood was clearly splintered. Would not book with them again. read more

We were very, very happy with the service provided. We had a difficult short haul involving a volatile divorce and they accommodated our short notice of approximately 48 hours. John, the dispatcher, called back faithfully and quickly and kept us informed.The trucks arrived within the arranged half hour arrival. The workers sent were discreet and polite. They worked hard with no slacking. There was nothing damaged or broken. Their sense of spatial relationships was excellent and they consolidated the move well thereby saving money for us. Safemovers are amazing!!! I highly recommend them. We were in a bind because the moving company I had booked flaked on us and we had to be out of the house adapt. We called Safemovers and they were lifesavers. So many people were all booked up but they always have extra people ready to go on hand. The owner Nick assured us that everything would be ok. The gave us the red carpet treatment by taking care of our things like they were their own. They were fast an efficient. Can't say enough about how wonderful this company is to work with. Being new to town and w/the complication of having to get the items out of a upack container they made it all happen in short order. I got the same person almost every time I called (either Peggy or Nicole) who were very reassuring that everything was good to go. They showed up on time, with great communication, did really fast and professional work, and were also really fun to talk to and joke around with. I have a huge CA king bed with a remote (back and legs move up and down) that is SO heavy. They took care of it like it was nothing and helped me figure out the best place to put it in the bedroom too. The movers, Randy and Pancho showed up right on time and didn't stop for even a second to rest until I was totally moved into my new place. Fantastic! I called this morning to see if they could move some furniture for me today, and they were there within 2 hours. They were super efficient and very careful with my stuff. Oh, and really nice, too. It took 2 guys 2 hrs and 45 minutes to move a room's worth of furniture from the Outer Sunset to Oakland, and fit it Tetris-like into a small storage space. I learned just a little too late that they will also store things for you--and show them to potential Craigslist buyers! I will be calling back in January to move the things I'm selling from the storage space to Safe Movers. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. read more

I responded to a Craigslist ad for an item they had in inventory, and it was delivered same day, loaded into our office, and they even added some extras to it for our small company. Sean delivered everything, notified me when he was on his way, and was very pleasant to deal with while moving in the furniture. Nick was responsive and engaged the entire time, and even a few weeks later when I needed an additional piece of documentation for the services. Had a delivery scheduled for a 6 ft tall 750 lb safe. The company made me a reasonable offer to get it moved up my stairs. Last minute they canceled, and they said they made a mistake with the estimate total and the quote was wrong because the person in charge of quoting has memory issues. Then, they gave me a new quote over $200 over the original estimate. I asked them more details about this quote and they rudely responded with "we are not moving your safe". I was confused at what changed all of a sudden. They left me stranded with no options with a large safe. Should have honored their mistake. Horrible company, don't do business with these people. You will be disappointed and ripped off. Their are more professional and affordable safe movers that are local. read more

Safe Movers moved my 4000 square foot office recently. It required disassembling the furniture, moving alot of expensive and heavy items (including my 600 bottle wine collection which was stored in 3 wine refrigerators) and artwork. They did a superb job! They were on time (actually, they were early), professional, conscientious, careful, efficient and fun to work with. We considered Corovan Northstar and United and the other large carriers but Safe Movers was more flexible, less expensive and easier to work with. We plan to use them for all our company and personal moving jobs. read more

Safe Movers were recommended by a friend who had a great experience, and they did not disappoint. Nick emailed me back right away and sent Matthew & Dom to move me from Fremont to San Ramon. Matthew & Dom were not only friendly, polite, & careful with my belongings, but they worked without a break moving me into a third floor apartment-NO ELEVATOR-during a heat wave in a matter of hours. They even insisted on staying and making sure all my furniture was exactly where I wanted it and the fee was BELOW the estimate. I have moved multiple times in the past due to military moves and worked with various companies. The team from safe movers were nice, efficient, hard working, and made the move from Oakland to Sacramento smooth. No items were damaged. They asked where I would like items in my new place and made sure everything was reassembled prior to leaving. I highly recommend Nick and his team. Nick was quick to respond to my emails. The only negative item I could add is they only accept cash or check. However I did not know this and only had my credit cards and asked if they accepted PayPal. I would recommend this company to a friend and use this company again for my next move. I was living in San Francisco and moved outside the city. I first checked with several moving companies I found on Angie's List three days before I needed to move. One of the companies got back with me and I was informed they no longer did moves within San Francisco, but recommended Safe Movers. I emailed Nick at Safe Movers, who did a great job helping me get my move scheduled and coordinated. Nick suggested getting two movers and a truck for my studio to studio move. Jesus and Antonio were my two movers. They were very efficient, considerate, and easy to work with during the move. My experience working with the the company overall (from management to moving crew) is that they are very transparent with any issues or potential delays before, and during, the move. Other things that made this a good moving experience included: - Able to move me on the date I needed to be moved. - Provided them logistical detail regarding what would need to be packed, huge furniture items that would need to be moved, detail of how many steps they would be using (e.g. number of steps, bends in the steps, width of stair case etc.) and parking for the truck at the place I was moving from and at the place I was moving to really helped save me in costs and get the right team needed for the job. - Jesus and Antonio were great at asking questions regarding the packing of items and helping me utilize as few boxes as possible. - Once they got me moved to my new place, I was able to unpack most of my items before Jesus and Antonio were finished moving my large furniture pieces. I asked them if they would take the empty boxes back, which would relive me of having to dispose of them. They checked with their management and got the ok to do so. - I inspected the back of the truck after the move and didn't see anything that was left behind. However, the next day I noticed one of the wheels missing on my desk chair. I figured it fell off at some point during the move. I felt it was a long shot, but I emailed Nick a picture of the wheel and asked it they happened to find it. He got back with me and they had found it. Nick and Donald next day delivered the wheel back to me at no additional costs. Getting that wheel back kept me from having to go through the hassle of ordering a replacement part, if not having to purchase a new chair. - Cost of the move was very reasonable considering the costs of moving services in the Bay Area. If shopping for movers and still trying to decide, I recommend to seriously consider them. Take note of this company and give them a call or send them an email. read more

This company is A+ fantastic! We moved from Seattle, and upon finding a new apartment, we called Safe Movers to help us move our belongings from the ABF freight depot to our new apartment. Having to act quick to avoid further unnecessary out-of-pocket expenses, we called them on a Friday to find out if they could squeeze in a 'move' on Monday. Without a doubt you can trust their process, their responsiveness, their customer service, their efficiency, and that your belongings are safe and taken care of. We chose them without getting any other quotes given the amount of positive Yelp ratings, and without a doubt we have no regrets. Nick answered the phone and asked me to email him with the basics and they'd return a quote right away. We love his approach to customer service. Friendly and direct. Curious as to how they could respond to a quote so quickly, Nick said they build their schedule to accommodate last minute moves like ours, and we are so grateful to have a quality group of people available to respond. Once we received the quote Nick and I conducted the rest of our business over email / smart phones. (I admit I was a little skeptical about this approach, and in the end, this business acts with integrity all the way through). We met Dom, Joaquin, and Andre at the freight terminal and they unloaded our two cubes very quickly. What took 2 guys in Seattle 5 hours to handle and load the cubes, Safe Movers handled and delivered in 2.25 hours. Kudos guys!! We made sure we had water available to keep them hydrated since we live in a 3rd floor apartment. All the while, Dom, Joaquin, and Andre are professionals! They asked questions when they needed guidance; they were courteous and mindful with handling our items; they were smart in devising ways to move items through tight spaces....overall, they have muscles, smarts, stamina, and excellent customer service. I'm one who reads Yelp reviews, and never writes them. However, this company compels me to take the time to recommend them to you. We had a great experience working with them and I'm absolutely confident you will too. read more

This company saved us in a real pickle! Our previous movers went awol and didnt return calls or emails and we had to scramble to find movers last minute. Safe Movers were understanding and apologetic for something they didn't even do! They showed up early, worked hard, were nice, polite and friendly and got us moved in under 3 hours. Everything is intact and they even pointed out old nicks to make sure we knew it was there before they moved it. They were real professionals. We tipped well, because they deserved it. This company should change its name to Safe and Speedy movers. I'm amazed by the professionalism, speed and STRENGTH that Reggie and Victor displayed when helping my wife and I with our move. They came on time, had a quick chat with us about where what order we'd like to have our things packed ad unpacked and got straight to work. I've never seen movers haul ass like this. What's most impressive is that they do it all with a smile on their faces. All in all it took about 3 hours to load up our 1br apartment in Burlingame and unload in Albany. I recommend both of these guys and Safe Movers highly. If I were you, I'd ask for them specifically to guarantee yourself a great experience. read more
