Review for Kingsgate Safeway - Kirkland, WA I've been a regular customer at this Safeway for years, but had a very disappointing experience today. After dropping a gallon of milk just outside the store, I brought it back in and told the checker, Chris, that I needed to replace it. He misunderstood and insisted I couldn't just take another one, even though I never asked for it to be free. I paid for the new one, but before I could show him the receipt, he grabbed my arm and accused me of not paying. It was an uncomfortable and unnecessary interaction that left me feeling disrespected. I hope the store addresses this kind of behavior moving forward. But, actually, I also think Safeway should go back to good customer service policy and not recharge the customer for a front door accident. Such bad service. read more

Don't shop at Kingsgate Safeway if you ever need customer service. My husband went there for one item, and they didn't have any on the shelves. So he asked for help, and they told him that nobody could help him because EVERYONE WAS ON BREAK AT THE SAME TIME. WTAF? I phoned and got excuses and a meager apology from the MOD. Store has lost most of its best employees and replaced them with people who have to ask me what some fruit, (plum), or what type of vegetable something is. Service desk has been closed two days in a row. Thank gosh Angelica, and liquor manager is still there. I also shop at Whole Foods and have seen many ex-Safeway employees there. Worst of all is the introduction of furniture and decor into their stores. Whoever the buyer is on these items, HAS TO BE FIRED. Quality and prices are way out of touch with even Mayfair. EMPLOYEE ABUSED A SAFEWAY CUSTOMER On 7/28/2022 at 12 noon, I purchased food items at this Safeway's Deli counter. I was getting ready to pay for them at the Deli counter (a register is setup right at the Deli for that purpose). However the server ordered me "go to the front and checkout...I'M BUSY". There were no other customers at the deli. She was just too lazy to check me out. For me to check out in "the front", meant walking to the regular checkout line, wait in line, then walking back past the same deli counter to the exit. This would have unnecessarily wasted ten minutes of my time. I replied that my time is also valuable; and, I am a paying customer. This server sceamed at me to "go to the front". After being screamed at and ordered around by this Safeway employee, I turned around and walked out abandoning the $75 worth of packaged deli food on the deli checkout counter (hopefully to be thrown out). So this store lost a sale of $75, created immense customer dissatisfaction just because the employee thought her time was more important than the customer's! I will not pay for the privilege of being screamed at by a Safeway employee, because taking my money for my purchase was just too inconvenient for the employee. TLDR: average grocery store. Private parking lot that's rarely ever full. Produce quality isn't too bad but there are the few questionable pieces here and there. Deli food is average. Can be hit or miss--salad bar items can be on the dry side sometimes. Bakery is nice. I love it when they have warm fresh bread. I also appreciate their single serve cake slices. read more

Hello Shopppers, Safeway 'Just 4U' rewards 2x, 3x, or 4x are great! However, @ Safeway Kingsgate, when I purchase, 1 each family size M&M @ $15.99 'Just 4U' DID NOT show on my reciept??? So I went to customer service, she said "I don't know what ro tell you?"??? I could not believe what she was I was hearing?? I was shocked that a 'Customer Service Person' COULDN'T HELP ME??? FYI, keep ALL yr receipts. I know most of us use our debit, credit, or other cards that help us buy our food! SAVE SAVE SAVE yr receipts even when using these cards. If you don't you might have issues returning items that you purchased. If 'Justv4U' shows on the app "FREE" stuff! Make sure you DO NOT GO TO KINGSGATE SAFEWAY. PERIOD Honestly, they NEVER have it. As for other Safeway's like Kirklands Juanita, Lynnwood, Monroe, & Renton Safeways, they are MUCH BETTER than KINGSGATE SAFEWAY wanna-be Grocery Store. Have fun shoppers! Avoid KINGSGATE SAFEWAY. The prepared food/deli workers will charge the wrong amount when they weigh your food. I thought the first time was just a mistake but the next 4 times was the same routine. Every morning I swing by to get a breakfast burrito from the deli in every morning and older Asian man with a bad attitude makes my burrito . As he's making my burrito I can clearly see that all the jalapeños cucumbers tomatoes and everything else inside of the deli containers are all dried out and clearly have been sitting there for at least a week and every morning I go they are still there. read more

POORLY SERVICE!! I purchased a gift for a friend but at the end it didn't convince me so I took it back to the store for a return. I had purchased this through self checkout but since the guy who was there was busy I went to a cashier and this lady name Jessica with pink hair old lady told me it was closed i told her I was doing a return and she looked at me and was like what is it I showed her and she asked what was wrong with it and I told her the reason and that I had purchased it couple min ago. She was all rude and had an attitude towards me. She took my items and started to scan them one of them was missing the barcode probably feel off on my way back to the store but she was like " this is missing. A barcode check your bag do you have it" I told her no and then she's like " oh well idk how you purchased this " I told her it was purchased today it's right there in the receipt! Whew. Don't worry everyone, they have It's Its now! All is right in the world. Since getting the Safeway "Just 4 you" and the app on my phone, I find I come here a lot more often. They use special spy technology to give me coupons for the things I buy the most. So, mostly cheese, soup, and ice cream. DON'T JUDGE ME! I usually save anywhere from 30-50% whenever I come in here. The shelves are usually well-stocked, and the people are nice enough. I do find it odd that they have people on the express lanes, who, well, aren't very speedy. Which bothers me. Not perfect, but it's my neighborhood Safeway, so it will do. Seriously though people, get the app and register your card, and start saving! read more

Literally the worst grocery store I have ever been to. By far the most expensive in the area yet it's in a majorly low income area, they never have the Safeway staffed and half the time you go there there isn't anyone to even open up the liquor they have locked away. This is by far the worst grocery store I've ever been to. I live less than a block away and absolutely refuse to come in here. There's always always a line of at least 6 to 7 people always only 1 to 2 registers open and sometimes it takes 30 minutes just to get checked out of the store. Early morning or late at night, middle of the day... ALWAYSSSSS. A w I would give it zero stars if I could. The situation that broke the straw for me was I needed some cereal for my daughter last minute and I went in there to grab cereal and milk get back to the house. I've been shopping here for years, and today I had one of the rudest customer service experiences imaginable. I was coming out of an aisle with my cart and didn't see an employee who was crossing the aisle I was walking into right away. I stopped WELL short of hitting him with my cart, and he looked at me and said, "Slow down, turbo!" very rudely. He was a short man who was on his way to go work the self-checkout station, and I think he must have had a Napoleon complex, but that's no reason to take his shortcomings in life out on the customer. I have been treated rudely here on other occasions throughout the years, but lately things have been pretty good until today. I may consider shopping somewhere else over this. read more

I have been going to this Safeway here for years. The store used to be decent back a number of years ago and has started going down hill as management has changed Now it is ridiculous, they are so understaffed and the clerks are overworked, and the lines are crazy. Unlike what is thought, I have gotten to know the checkers that do stick around and they are very friendly but overworked for sure. If your in line know that their heads are down to try and make your experience a little less painful. I would go elsewhere if it was convenient to go to another store than I would. read more

I have been shopping here for my small shopping list for 29 years. If it wasn't the closest grocery store I wouldn't bother at all. I can't tell you how many times I have been overcharged. When you go back and point it out, the cashier just makes a joke out of it. Watch your receipts folks. I think most people just don't pay attention. If you comparison shop, you will soon find out that this is a far more expensive place to shop than others. This is also one of the rare grocery stores around without self check out. Do they not trust their clientele or what? They have loads of unused check stands. The "quick" check out lanes are frequently jammed full (with very slow cashiers) making them anything but quick. If you don't like to wait 5-10 minutes in line to check out with just a few items, this is not the place for you! Update: A couple weeks ago I went here for a couple items. They had one check stand open. When I checked in front and behind me there were 10 people waiting, and waiting. When the checker finally noticed the line (about 5 minutes later) he call for another checker. About 3-4 minutes passed before the next one showed up. This place is a joke! read more

I went in about a week ago, my 2 kids and I were in a huge hurry. We don't usually go to this Safeway but it was on the way home. I was having trouble finding what I needed so I asked the closest worker I could find, it happened to be a Mark Holley. He was AMAZING! He helped me find what I needed and was able to answer my questions quickly and accurately, he also helped with self check out. The customer service here is great. This Safeway's owner is clearly a cheapskate. There's never more than two checkers going, one express and one regular... so god help you if you have more than 15 items. You routinely have to wait 15-20 minutes in line. No matter when you shop. I've tried SO hard to find a good time to shop there, since it's my closest store. Morning? Nope. Lunch? Nope. Dinner? God no. Midnight? Nope. There's never a good time. This store is a nightmare. I wish I could leave it a 0 star review. OWNER: if you are reading this, and I doubt you care enough to, for the love of god: hire more checkers or get with the times and add self checkout. You've got the room. You've got a ton of checkout counters I've never seen used in 4 years. read more

This Safeway is closest to my house and I only go if I'm out of something and cooking at that very minute. What I truly dislike about this store is how long it takes to check-out. Every single time I'm wishing they had self checkout. Even the express lanes are slow. They maybe just don't have enough lanes open at any given time. Selection and look of the store have been fine since their remodel. Shop here if you have nowhere to be anytime soon, like to write personal checks, or want to visit a little too long with checkers. All nice people, but really I just want to get in and out. read more

Terrible liquor selection. Needed cream de cacao and it was nowhere. Plenty of vodka, rums, tequilas, if that's your thing. The one and ONLY thing I LOVE about my Safeway is the front-end employees. They remain consistent and have been there for years. A few years back they undertook a much needed remodel and it was lovely. The kicker is that oftentimes you're unable to find an employee in an aisle to assist you. You can, however, always find someone in produce or in the bakery, or behind the meat and seafood counter. They do have a pharmacy here as well. Safeway's deli food is GARBAGE. But they have nice sliced meat and have been helpful in slicing it to my requested thickness. There is also a Starbucks and a very lovely floral department. read more

Nice place and good service.

This is somewhere we go due to convenience. It's your average Safeway, no real issues or problems with it -- just what you'd expect really, so it gets the A-OK rating. The employees all seem friendly and helpful enough too; we've never had a problem with anyone who works here. Bonus that there's a Starbucks kiosk inside too! One issue that bugs me is that whenever something is on a sale, it just happens to be missing from the shelves... by Sunday morning...or even Saturday afternoon. Kind of annoying. I do recommend using the savings card and doing the "Just 4 U" savings too even though it takes some time...there are noticeable savings using both. And, you get the gas rewards which can end up saving you $1/gallon at the pump which is nice. Many times there are bonus offers with the savings too where you can get a lot of gas credits without spending the equivalent necessary to traditionally earn them. In all honesty, we haven't purchased any of the fresh meat or seafood from a Safeway for quite some time. The closest we've gotten is probably the ground meats just because the quality never seems quite good enough to us; it's worth the extra money to swing by the butcher, Costco, or Whole Foods for these items for us. We have found the fruits and vegetables to be of a pretty decent quality here, and other items are pretty standard and cheaper here than other places. Anyhow, it's a typical Safeway and probably what you'd expect from one: nothing above and beyond and nothing way below average. I do appreciate the nice, friendly staff here! They seem to always be working hard but keep positive attitudes. read more

UPDATE: Less than a week later and I go home to find my brand new package of strawberries is moldy. Hire a new GM now!! Consistency is the only thing this Safeway has going for it. Unfortunately it's consistently bad. Consistently long lines, even at non-peak times (I overheard the shift lead saying she had more courtesy than checkers at the time!) Consistently bad food at the hot bar, always past its prime, and always undercooked rice. The checkers are visibly overworked. I'm surprised they stay here this long because they're really nice people who obviously get treated terribly by management. Despite living next door to this Safeway, I have started shopping in Woodinville and Juanita because this Safeway is so poorly managed. read more

This Safeway location in the Kingsgate neighborhood is one of the worst I've shopped at. I'm rating it based on several shopping trips there. Impatient and unfriendly customer service in ALL departments including pharmacy, always out of stock on things, a lot of outdated product so check dates on everything including soda, no self check out, long lines with LONG wait times, certain checkers and courtesy clerks just toss your stuff in a bag and plop them in the cart which has caused my items to Crack and leak (I've said something before). The selection of food is lacking, and like always the prices are a little high unless something is on sale, even then you have to download the app and items individually for their "just 4 you" sale prices. But when you do go there for their sale items good luck finding them in stock I'd rather just shop at freddys read more

We only go here when we need a few things. This is not our first choice despite being less than a mile away from our home because the check out line is always at least 4+ deep with only 2-3 lines open and it's very slow. Decent selection of items but man, the service is painfully slow. read more

No self checkout. 5pm+ weekdays and all times on weekends, you are waiting 15-20 mins or more to check out. Been this way for years, never gets fixed. Edit: Just tried again on any old Saturday night. Lines for the only two open registers about 15 deep down the aisles. Really?!? I'd rather drive five miles to get a pint of ice cream than shop here, less than a mile from home.
