Went here for pho on a cool weekday, suffering a cold. Figured some hot, spicy soup would kick it out of me. Apparently, this cold was a doozy! The btith was flavorful, but the proteins (like tripe) were a bit sparse. The veg was plentiful and fresh. After adding the veg and sriracha, it was a comforting lunch Parking is really bad at this location. With just a handful of spaces accessible by the alley behind the store, they fill quickly, and street parking is hard to find nearby. Food is decent, but accessibility is not. We ordered the large House Special Pho which is called Pho Xe Lua for $10.95 compared to the medium size $9.95, why not for an extra dollar. It was a cold night so a hot soup was a perfect dish for this weather. My friend gave the meal two thumbs up which is really good because he is finicky. I've been hesitant because I wasn't sure if it would be the exact same quality - but finally ventured to try. This vietnamese restaurant is a hidden gem in the Alhambra main street area. There is a mult level parking structure behind the restaurant where you can park your car. There were plenty of tables to choose from when I arrived the restaurant. I always order a large #21 because it's good and filling. It was a soup base noodles with plenty of sliced rare steak, tendon, and stripe. Remember to squeeze some lime juice into the soup, it will enhance the soup flavor. What surprise me this time was how fast the food came out after the order, it took less than couple minutes to arrive on my table! read more

Ambiance - Saigon Eden was pretty empty for lunch on a holiday. We arrived around noon and there were only about a handful of tables with guests. The restaurant is split into two sections, one on either side of a dividing wall. They also have outdoor seating, but it was far too cold for that. Service - Given how empty the restaurant was, we were a little surprised by how long it did take for the waitstaff to come around and for the food to arrive. Or *maybe* we were a little hungry after a long 2-hour walk through the gardens. Food- Our patience was rewarded. I'm a little torn on the food. Some of the dishes were definitely noteworthy like the bbq hen/chicken with red rice. The roast on the Cornish hen was excellent. The skin was crispy and the meat had pulled away from the bone in the way where you already know it'll be good. The banh xeo was also memorable with a brittle mung bean shell, packed with plenty of bean sprouts, lean pork, and served with a generous helping of fresh herbs. Other dishes were not as impressive. My crab claw rice noodle soup was so small, practically kid-sized. It only had one crab claw and it tasted like something they'd thawed from frozen--not the freshest crab I've had. To compensate, they included about a handful of shrimp. Everyone else's dishes looked normal-sized. Saigon Eden is one of those places where a half star feature would definitely come in handy. I suppose at the end of the day, the dish you pick could make or break your experience. If it's any consolation though, the stellar dishes were the ones worth waiting for. read more

Came here specifically for bun rieu (tomato crab meat soup). Nice location, has parking in rear. Bun rieu - was really excited for the crab meatballs. I know they crumble into pieces buyt as you can see, you barely see anything. However, the flavor was fantastic! Will I get it again? Read on... So I told the uber friendly check out lady about the nonexistent meat ball pieces. She said people complained about the meatball sizes before, and suggested I tell the server next time to have the kitchen staff not break up the meatball sizes. I've been coming here since high school! If you've ever been to this place before, they're formerly known as "Pho 79". It's the same workers/staff with the same great tasting food as their prior restaurant's name. Their service is exceptionally quick, and their food is delicious. I don't really order anything other than selection of Pho, cause that's usually what I'm in the mood for when I'm there. I will definitely come back here. This is a great place for tasty, yet reasonably priced Vietnamese food if you know what to order. I think the highlights here are the pho and egg rolls(cha gio). The buon, shaken beef(bo luc lac), cornish hen and any plates with charbroiled beef or pork are also good here. You get decent tasting food here that's well worth your money spent. I think it's better here than Golden Deli, which I think is rather overrated(had their pho and egg rolls), which you'll end up paying quite bit more than all the other Pho places. Don't get items like the banh mi here(french vietnamese sandwiches)as it's better at other banh mi places for less. I go here often. I usually get the Pho or egg rolls, or buon with charbroiled beef and cha gio here. You leave here satisfied knowing that your money was well spent. read more

I haven't dined in but I have placed phone orders for pho. At $11 for a large bowl, this is a really filling and quality meal. I haven't had much else on the menu but they have many other offerings. Can't believe I passed by this place for years and never tried it until now! Saigon Eden has an extensive menu of Vietnamese cuisine, the options are endless. The usual Vietnamese restaurants I frequent specialize in a certain type of dish but this place pretty much has it all. I ordered the beef stew and it really hit the spot. The baguette it comes with is freshly toasted, so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I ripped it open and steam poured out immediately. The beef stew comes with huge pieces of beef shank and it was surprisingly tender and fell apart easily. The soup itself was so rich and full of flavor. Each bite of baguette dipped in soup was a flavor bomb. My friend ordered the rice plate with Cornish hen and that was good as well. There were parts of the hen that were a little dry but it was still good mixed with the fish sauce. The red rice was so garlicky and delicious when drenched in the fish sauce. I'm definitely coming back here to try other items on the menu. read more

I knew the restaurant was shut down for a bit due to health violations a while back, but it seemed pretty comfy and clean to the bare eyes. I ordered a regular sized pho tai with egg rolls. Food was delivered to the table very quickly. While they look presentable, the taste of the food was seriously lacking. The broth did not have a rich, in-depth flavor and tasted really flat. Beef slices were probably not of high quality because they were extremely chewy like rubber. I should've paid a couple more dollars for the ribeye slices instead if I knew the regular ones were this bad. Egg rolls were okay, just slightly on the greasier end. I usually feel pretty satisfied after a hot bowl of pho, but this place did not give me that feeling. Overall, I really didn't like my experience here even though service was decent. Don't know why the rice noodle is always clump up together like it had been made in advance and it got lefted out in the bowl for a good amount of time. This happened to me 3 times already. I had to take my time to separate the noodle before i can start eating. I'm not the only one that finds this unusual. The table next to me also complained to the owner, the owner explained that this is normal. Sorry, it isn't. If it is made fresh or made correctly, it should be at least not clump up like when I ordered it from togo and pry out the noodle from the togo box. No other viet restaurant served clump up noodle like that. Noodles is clumped up when i ordered it for to go is understandable. Not when I dined in. I only came here cause the one at sg closed on certain day. Since it has the same name, I thought everything would be the same. Nope, it runs differently here. No issue with the service. Except I have to flag them down for extra napkin. In the beginning, they left you with one napkin to fend for yourself. Other viet restaurants have napkin, sauces, and utensils on the table. Having things on the table is helpful during busy hours. Another big jump in price changes. No longer is affordable to me. Saigon eden just lost the one thing that kept me here for the longest time. It was once had the most reasonable prices vs other pho restaurants. The pho here is decent too for it prices before. The prices kept increasing and increasing. This was the old Pho 79. It is still operated by the same family, the grandkids. That is what my mom tells me. I have eaten here a million times. It is a meal. It is fast food. I haven't tried the pho for a while, yet most of the time it is ok, about average. Today I ordered Com Bi Cha Tau Hu Ky. It is a rice dish with pork/egg-like meatloaf and fried tofu shrimp. It's a dry vermicelli noodles with beef or pork and egg rolls on top. They give you a cup of fish sauce to pour into the noodles. How much is dependent on you. I came here with my brother, and there were only 6 outdoor tables available for the customers. Please come here and support this business. The food here is fantastic. Arguably the best Vietnamese restaurant in the San Gabriel valley. Plus, this is the only restaurant that serves Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio with outdoor seating. Saigon Eden is located in downtown Alhambra and very close to one of the free parking lots in Alhambra. I use to live here back in my teen years and I have to say, everything has changed for the better. Lots of free parking lots and places to eat and one of the cool spots is Saigon Eden! It's a local hang out spot for good pho that is tasty and flavorful. The noodles aren't hard and they are cooked really well and that to me is really important when your eating a bowl of pho. Came here for dinner with a group of friends and they were very attentive and also the food came quickly. Even though the food was finished they didn't rush us out and we sat for a bit to just chat. Tip: You can enter from the front or the back they have both entrances and exits that are open when they are open! So you can park in the free parking lot behind it. read more

I recently came here during lunch on a week day. There were plenty of tables so there was no wait. I was told this place used to be Pho 79. This restaurant is situated across from the Sprouts plaza and adjacent from the movie theatre. The food is mediocre. I've had better pho around the SGV. This was my first time here even though I've been around the area countless times. I ordered the House Special Pho (regular size). To me if you're going to to a new place, might as well try their "house special" since it would be their signature dish. I actually came here for lunch with a group of my colleagues. All of our orders were put into at the same time. Those who ordered pho got their food first, any dried noodles came second, and last the rice dishes. Just an FYI in case you order in a group and you're hungry. Might not always be in that order. When I got my pho, it looked pretty densely packed in the bowl. As I stick my chopsticks around the soup, meat, and noodles, it was all clumped together. The raw meat were stuck together. Nothing like having a huge clump of meat that's partially raw and cooked as a first bite. The noodles were partially cooked and partially raw. You can tell the ones that were stuck together were kind of still raw/hard. I really had high hopes for this place since I've heard it was comparable to Pho 79's quality. I might give this place another chance, probably to try one of the vermicelli dishes. read more
