If I could give a 0 star review I would. They don't have a manager to talk to, they are overly rude over the phone and give the wrong orders to Uber eats drivers. I am completely dissatisfied and frustrated with how they conduct business. I ordered FRIED RICE and received pho!? I went through Uber eats and they asked me to contact the company to get my corrected order. Supposedly they don't have a manager on staff for night time and were yelling at me making me even more frustrated and annoyed. I asked them to simply correct their mistake they refused. I asked if I bring the order back to them would they correct it and they said no! Who does business like this? 4 stars is way to many for the poor management and poor customer service. This was my second time trying Saigon Star...unknowingly! I dined in 2-3 months ago and loved the pork fried rice and pho. Today, I ordered Saigon Star on Uber Eats, not knowing it was the same restaurant that I dined in months earlier. This time, I ordered the vermicelli noodles and the salt and pepper shrimp. Both items were so delicious, fresh and filling! The to-go packaging was neat, eco-friendly, and thoughtful! We wanted to try out restaurants that are nearby in this neighborhood instead of commuting to Convoy or City Heights. We've heard mixed reviews about this place but have always passed by. The place is very clean and spacious. BF was craving for Pho and since we tried the one across the street, we decided to come here. He got the special which is a large combo noodle soup with rare steak, well done steak, flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe ($9). He said the broth was bland and could be better. Usually he squeezes one lime but this time it took 3 to get the flavor of choice. As for me, I thought the broth was fine as is. I judge it on the sodium and would I be brave to drink the soup? (Normally I don't drink the broth unless it's made at home at). However, I would drink to taste and it wasn't over kill on the sodium which is why I like it. I think the broth is on the lighter side but still has enough flavors. BF seems to disagree. We also got 6 Egg rolls ($7.50). They come very hot so be careful to not bite into it right away. The egg roll taste the same everywhere so it was mediocre. I kind of wish they gave more lettuce to wrap. I got the Sizzling steak filet mignon ($12.95) which came with rice and spring mix. The spring mix was a huge portion. I didn't touch my rice at all and stuck with the greens. The steak was soft and the sauce was flavorful with the onions. read more

Saturday night my family and I went to have a " good dinner night " at this place that it was our favorite for more than 10+ years. We order our food and as normal they brought some water but this time the glassware was dirty, with marks of lipstick. Ok we thought it was fine just a small mistake. They change them, after a few minutes of eating the food with my daughters and wife I was going to take a piece of fry tofu and I notice there was a black dot in the plate and surprise! A Fly!!! We couldn't believe that was happening after so many years of service. The waitress just apologized and wanted to offer a 10% discount, we did not finish the food, paid and walked away. My husband and I love this place. It's one of our "go-to's". We order from here about 2x/month. Unfortunately, we only discovered this little gem during the pandemic so we never really got a chance to experience indoor dining. You literally cannot go wrong with their menu. Everything tastes delicious! We usually order: + Salt & Pepper Wings + Shrimp Spring Rolls + Bahn Mi (any kine - grilled tofu, chicken, pork, and beef are all good) We recently discovered... + Beef Stir Fried Noodles + Sizzling Steak Filet Mignon ...and now these dishes are being added to our rotation. The Thai Tea is great and so is the Fresh Young Coconut (however, I wouldn't order the coconut to go - it was a hot mess). We're still discovering new dishes on their menu. I've always wanted to try their pho, but it's been so hot! lol Customer service is super great! And the food is consistently good (this is something I look for in an establishment). I only took off one star because sometimes there has been a couple of times where there was a miscommunication with our order, and we received either the wrong item or didn't receive it all. First of all, the customer service was horrible, definitely not a good experience for my family and I. We were mistreated, neglected, wasn't taken care of, the server was super rude and he snapped at us, when we wanted to order. The service was so bad, that we decided to leave and didn't even want to give them our money or business because of the disrespect that they shown us. I don't know what it is, but we were just a small family trying to eat, and we were being discriminated against by Vietnamese people, and we are an Asian family too. Love the steak Bahn mi here, probably one of my all time favorites. Bread is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Meat is smokey. Nice brightness from the veggies. The egg rolls are always guaranteed to satisfy, too. Super crispy and piping hot. Great when wrapped in the lettuce and mint leaves the order comes with. Pho broth is clear and very flavorful. The amount of meat and noodles is not the heftiest I've seen in most pho places, but it is definitely enough for a good meal. Hubby thinks that the noodles are too often clumped together and the texture is not as chewy as he prefers, but I actually don't notice it. Try the Thai iced coffee. It'll wake a zombie. They are now opening both sides of the interior for dine in, so there's plenty of tables that are well spaced out. A large fan is running inside to help with air circulation. I have never had to wait more than a minute for a table. Service is very prompt and often they anticipate your needs before you have to ask. Quick 30 min in and out for lunch, which I really appreciate when short on time. read more

Me and my fiancé went there around 10:30 and ordered food to go! I live 5 hours away and was heading straight to work, so I thought I would order some food for later. During my drive I thought I can snack on some egg rolls from the #58 vermicelli bowl. I had to pulled over to the side of the freeway to throw up, the egg roll smelled and tasted rotten. Then decided to tried the rest of the vermicelli bowl and because of the bad egg roll, my whole bowl smelled absolutely horror. I thought that my reaction of not eating the food threw up and detailed description i can get a refund on my food, so I called the restaurant and asked for compensation and they said that since I couldn't bring my food back to prove that the food was bad they couldn't do anything. So technically they told me to fuck off. I politely said thank you and filled a claim at a health department. Until they can have a better management, DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! I have been sick since! First time visiting this place nearby my working place and they served wonderful food with great and very quick service, the waiters were nice and friendly to customers. They have nice ambience, decorations and chilled music all the time. My boyfriend and I have been looking for a go-to pho restaurant since moving to San Diego and this is it!! We loved it! We went around 11:30-12pm and got seated right away, food came out quickly, and this restaurant is family owned and they were all so nice. Pho rating: 6/10 - I am really picky about my pho having it as a staple dish in my childhood so I know my stuff when it comes to pho. What they could improve on: having the Vietnamese meatballs in their specialty pho option, more noodle options and flavoring. Spring rolls were great but the peanut dipping sauce was sort of bland and watery. They also don't have the (thai?) chili peppers here to spice up the dishes/sauces which was disappointing. I did enjoy the cleanliness of the restaurant - it's way cleaner than the good places in pb or La Jolla.. it definitely feels like they put their effort here to clean appropriately. The decor is neat has an asian touch. The customer service was great. We came during a busy night but the staff they had in hand was very attentive and checked in several times. Being Vietnamese and growing up in Orange County/Little Saigon, I've had pho all my life, so when moving to San Diego for school I've been on the hunt for the best pho places here. I live 2 minutes away from Saigon Star so I just wanted to give this place a try. I ordered a large bowl of pho with rare & well-done beef (Ph tái chín), which is what I normally get and what my review will be based on. I thought that the broth was pretty light, slightly sweet, and had a decent amount of visible oil on top (which I personally like). It kind of reminds me of Phoholic back in Westminster if anyone has tried it, but not as good. The beef wasn't as good quality as I would prefer as it was a bit tough and not tender like my fave pho places (such as Pho 79). Overall, it was a decent bowl of pho and I would eat it again for convenience since it's so close from me, but it's not the best pho I've had in San Diego. Beside the pho, you get served a big bottle of slightly cold water with small cups that you pour the water in yourself. So for all the people who need their water really cold/with ice, make sure you ask for it. I personally like to get steamed beansprouts so that it doesn't make your broth cool down as fast. Also, I would recommend trying onions with vinegar (hành dm) if that sounds good to you (at any pho restaurant)! read more

Spring rolls with peanut sauce were very good and the portion size was good. The wonton soup was very good, but extremely hot. The service was slow from trying to order drinks all the way up to paying. We waited for a bill to be brought to us but no one was around. I had to go near the back and do a bunch of "hellos" until finally someone came out and gave us the bill.
