Didn't know that Mazzat Bistro had now become Sajj Mediterranean. To support local restaurants, I've been specifically looking for restaurants that do home deliveries directly (not using a 3rd party) and came across Sajj today. Ordered the chicken shawarma meal kit (serves 4) online at 11am and it was delivered ahead of schedule at 4pm by their staff. As requested, they called when they arrived. Everything was nicely packaged in a huge foil container and arrived with easy reheating directions. Communication was great - I received an email from the owner shortly after placing the order and a phone call from the vendor who manages their online orders to confirm I received the meal. The food...OMG! There was such a huge spread, my taste buds didn't know where to start. So I stood staring at the food for a good few minutes - so many options! The pre-cooked meal kit arrived with: 4 different sauces (garlic spread, cilantro/mint chutney, tahini sauce, hot peri peri sauce), 8 falafels, tumeric rice, chicken shawarma, mixed greens, hummus, and pita bread. The chicken shawarma has a nice kick to it (but not too spicy for kids) and stayed moist after reheating. Also added an a la carte order of babaganoush, which had the perfect amount of smokiness. This was the perfect meal to end the week and a steal at $53 for 4 people (before taxes)/free delivery (I tipped!). So happy that I found Sajj. We'll be back! read more

This place has such good food! I love their bowls. At first I expected the chicken shawarma to be dry, but as soon as I took a bite, I was proven completely wrong. I was trying to find the best and popular item, but the lady was having a hard time understanding me so she called her colleague to help me. Ah, the Chipotle of middle eastern food. Simple menu: several proteins with a lot of choices for "mix-ins", all done as salad, rice bowl, wrap, or in a pita. Sound familiar? Very popular design and easy for the kitchen staff. However, they are several dollars more expensive than their vaunted Mexican-style archetype. Sajj is good, but I don't think it quite stands up to the price differential. The salad bowl with falafel was healthy, with a very nice mix of spring greens, beets, hummus, cauliflower, onions, etc. -- a really great selection, more than usual. The unusual mix-in was eggplant (baked?), and it was very good. Someone else reported the cauliflower was "crispy". Not today; it wasn't burnt and had an OK flavor, but definitely . . . well . . . cooked to the max. But with the many mix-ins, you can take any, all, or none. So make of it what you will and take responsibility for the outcome! The falafel were salty but otherwise well seasoned and had decent texture. However, they were quite dry. They likely had been sitting out for a while. Next time I might read and watch for them to come out fresh. My son reports that the steak was fine and not at all tough. Another reviewer complained about missing hot sauce. Tonight there was a very decent middle eastern hot sauce, in addition to the mint. Came here several months ago after they opened and the food and service are very good. I usually go to their San Mateo location and the food and menu are similar at both locations which means yummy food with good quantity. One bowl is usually enough for 2 meals for me. I usually get the chicken bowl with salad/rice mix and the majority of the add ins. I am not usually a big soup fan but their lentil soup is excellent! Not too thick or too watery but just right. Another stand out item here are the falafel balls. These are soooo good when you have them fresh. Nice crispy exterior with a very moist interior. Came for lunch with family. Have frequented SF location for work lunch. Food was good as usual but they refused to give us a cup of water. Really, refused a cup of water... So, I went to Big Mouth Burgers a few doors up to get my son a a burger. I asked for water and got two cups with a smile. I will not be back to this Sajj Joseph - Thank you for your response. 4.5 stars for the food. Everything was very tasty. Steak shawarma and chicken kabob were a little dry for my tastes, but the bowl with rice and toppings was delicious. Falafel and hummus were excellent. Loved the quinoa and all the fresh parsley in the tabbouleh salad. I'd have preferred smaller pieces of cabbage in the beet and cabbage salad; the long strands were hard to eat. Baklava was delicious. Minus a star for including plastic utensils, although I did not request them. Giving plastic utensils to everyone is so wasteful! Pacifica (and now California) has an ordinance requiring restaurants to only give plastic utensils to patrons who request them. Our planet has a big plastics problem, and especially living next to the ocean, we should be more conscious of reducing our plastic usage. I'm one person ordering enough food for several meals, and I'm perfectly capable of using a metal fork at home. The restaurant included 6 plastic forks, plus a giant stack of napkins, and all the food was packaged in plastic. Sajj is without doubt my favorite fast-casual chain restaurant, featuring fresh ingredients and vibrant Mediterranean flavors! The menu is completely customizable, featuring bowls, wraps, and pita sandwiches, all filled with a choice of protein and toppings (shoutouts to the eggplant ragout, sumac cauliflower, and sumac onions!). My usual go-to is the salad bowl, but my one complaint with this is that all the different ingredients and flavors tend to get mixed together and become indistinct, and if I'm getting the falafel, you can bet that it won't stay crispy for long! Enter the Sajj Plate, a new item that serves their assembly line of ingredients in a compartmentalized bento-style takeout box! The Vegan plate came with turmeric basmati rice topped with chickpeas, eggplant ragout, sumac cauliflower; hummus; pickles; salad greens with balsamic dressing; and two crispy falafel balls, along with pita bread, garlic dip, and warm lentil soup on the side! What a revelation! The falafel balls remained perfectly crispy and dippable into the creamy hummus, and I could really appreciate the flavors of each individual component so much more than when everything was just mixed together! Ok confession, didnt know this location had changed hands till Yelp told me and invited me out. Took my +1sh forever and we drove there. It's a shared plaza with adequate parking. Lots of food options available. We walked in and it's sparsely decorated with a cool map on the wall. Menu hanging above and behind the serving counter. Basically a "chipotle" style Mediterranean place. We always get bowls. You choose a starch, veggies, protein and a number of very flavorful condiments. It doesn't look like a ton of food till you start digging in and then realize about a quarter of the way through that you arent gunna be able to finish it. We enjoyed it so much, we took friends, had them cater parties and end up there after work for a quick bite. The staff are so incredibly nice. It's always clean. I first visited Sajj in Palo Alto and it was amazing so I was glad this one opened by me. I have been there 4 times now and although the food is great the service is iffy. I am not sure if it's a particular shift but I went once and they were out of rice so I only got half a bowl. Another time the falafel was cold. Last time I went the quantities were off, the sauces and the meat was sparingly served. It would be great if the service was consistent. The few times I went in Palo Alto it seemed better. read more

Ordered online tonight at about 6:10 p.m. and the food was ready for pick up at 6:20 p.m.. By the time I got to the Bayhill location, my order was sitting on the rack ready for me to take home. The food was very good and we were all happy with what we ordered. My wife had the chicken shawarma bowl, my son had the steak shawarma pita, and I had the chicken shawarma pita. HOWEVER, we also ordered a side of falafel but IT WAS MISSING. I should have checked the bag before I left the restaurant, but I didn't. During Covid I love getting delivery from Sajj. Their chicken kabob is always tender and perfectly seasoned but my go to is usually lentil soup, hummus and pita bread as well as a side of their garlic sauce which is garlicky and tangy and perfect on everything!
