I love this bakery! In the beginning, I was at Chelsea Market strolling and felt hungry. This bakery was near by. So, I walked in. I bought a tart, a scone and a small coffee for my birthday treat. The cashier recommended me for the tart because it was not too sweet. So glad that I took her advise. The scone, however, soft, warm and moist from the first bite till the last piece, and I licked the butter malted on my fingers. I just went back second time last week. The older lady with the black glasses working this evening at the register was so rude! My husband and I ordered 2 lattes, and it came scolding hot! It was even almost too hot to the touch through the cup that I wouldn't dare try to drink it as is. I went to the register and asked if I could please have my latte remade because it's waaaay too hot to drink. She grossly looked at me, grabbed my cup, opened it up (for some reason), looked up at me and asked as she was throwing me a disgusting judge mental look "this so too hot for you?" as if I was crazy and didn't know any better. She then proceeded to ask "do you want us to just pour cold milk into it?" I say no because I'll just end up drinking more milk than needed. I have been to this bakery many times. I have introduced many of my friends visiting NYC from out of state to buy bakery, jar, chocolates from this store...I like all of their products. The cashiers have always been friendly except for the one named Olga I met today. I took some of my friends from California to visit this store. Two days ago, they bought some jam and chocolate, the cashier took the initiative to ask us if we need a gift bag, the lady is as friendly as every cashier I've ever met before. Today my friends told me they wanted to buy some for their friends back home so today I took them to the store again. After we've paid, Olga told us that each bag cost $1.00. We were confused because we didn't pay for the bag just two days ago but Olga insisted it's a new policy from "her manager" and inflation has gone up apparently yesterday so we have to pay extra. I don't care about the gift bag itself but very much for her attitude. She was unapologetic and told us if we don't like it come again tomorrow to talk to her manager. I have never gotten such bitter response from the store so I was very disappointed from that poor experience. It felt like she was ready to start a fight with us because of some stupid bags. Beware of this lady OLGA cuz I think she needs some training on customer service. I'd be hesitant in the future to recommend anyone coming to this store. read more

I read about this James Beard Award-winning pastry chef and decided to try the Lemon Buttermilk Bundt Cake. Ordered online through their website and I loved the fact that they didn't have these already pre-made but that the cake was baked to order. The cake arrived and I could smell the lemony goodness from the box.This cake weights a whopping 3.5lbs and could easily serve 12-14 people. The flavor is amazing! - aromatic with fresh lemon juice, lemon zest and buttermilk made using simple quality ingredients. This bundt cake was delish! There seems to be a bakery at the location but i didn't really smell any fresh pastries. I just grabbed an iced coffee today. It was okay. Nothing special at this location. Came cause I needed a caffeine boost. Ordered the iced latte and I don't know what kind of milk they used but for some reason the non-fat iced latte that I ordered tasted a lot better than other places. Nice milky flavor so I figured must be the milk. I wanted to get some baked goods here so ended up with a jar of chocolate chip cookies. They cookies, while good, were a little stale for my liking. I did hit one up in the microwave and it was a lot better. Lots of chocolate chip for the size of the cookie so that was nice. The jar was expensive though at around $6 for the cookies. I also wanted to get a jar of their jams but at $10... I just couldn't do it. BUT for some odd reason I was at TJ Maxx and I found them for $7! Still expensive for jam or preserves but I had to do it. Made sure the expiration date was not close by and chose the Orange Apricot Marmalade. I was just expecting a good spread but the marmalade is awesome. Lots of orange peels throughout with a hint of apricot. It's one of the better marmalade I've had and even my picky parents liked it so I bought them a jar as well. I can't imagine spending $10 for it consistently, but at $7, a little more doable. I'll definitely be on the hunt for a few more of their goodies. read more

Everything was really delicious but nothing stood out as particularly special to me. I'm only familiar with Sarabeth's various jams and jellies so maybe I didn't order the right items. They offer a variety of breads and pastries including cookies, scones, muffins, biscuits, macaroons, rugelach, and tarts. They also have a menu listing their selection of salads and sandwiches. Besides coffee, they also offer a number of teas. Despite this selection, they have very limited seating including one communal table and a handful of 2-tops. From the outside, you can watch the bakers hard at work. After seeing this, my mother and I decided to go in and check out their pastries. It was all delicious, and I think I would go in again. However, I think I might try something else - like their blueberry tart or one of their cookies. read more

Then I found this gem. When I got in, I felt so familiar with the labels on jam jars, must have seen in from some supermarket. They are pricey though. Sure service is a little subpar but I'm in love with the selection of pastries, morning treats, and breakfast items available at what I think is a great standby for a meal when other places are not yet open. My friend and I decided to have an all out "brunch" splurge at the table as we sat on high stools. On plastic plates we were served, respectively, apple cinnamon french toast adorned with bananas, raisins and maple syrup, and the "dream" omelete made with shredded white cheddar and apple butter (homemade, semolina-ensconced english muffin on the side.) The french toast was fantastic due to the fact that it was substantial and not too sweet. It was also soft and required little extra moisture to make it palatable. The same could be said of my fluffy, sweet omelet, though I would have liked it to be hotter so the cheese would melt. Still not satisfied with our Sarabeth's experience, we asked for green tea (fruity, not too bitter,) a pumpkin tart, chocolate "chubby" and cloud cookie. The pumpkin tart was quite good, and the crust had a mealiness to it that I rather liked. The chubby was all right but far too rich; it was essentially a walnut brownie in cookie-form dusted with cocoa powder. The real winner though was the cloud cookie, made extra chewy with the help of egg whites and supremely tasty by the addition of almonds and chocolate chips. Too bad they don't sell stacks of them. Despite the lackluster service and the kind of cramped space, I would still recommend this place for breakfast, and especially for a baked good on the go. It looks like other people are less enthusiastic, but I have to say, it's good to try every once in awhile. read more

Rude servers, rude customers, and a 'get out of our store and stop wasting our time' attitude combined with a breakfast-only-on-weekends-though-we-tell-you-otherwise-by-phone policy makes Sarabeth's a relatively crummy experience at the Chelsea Market. While Eleni's no-pictures policy may be ignorant, at least their servers are helpful. Tried to order pancakes and french toast but were turned down, so instead orderd a corn muffin that was alright albeit dry, a Blueberry Lemon muffin that was dry and flavorless, a chocolate chip cookie that was no better than Chips A-hoy, and a Budapest Bundt Cake that was actually pretty darn good. Compared to other options at the Market, I'd steer clear of Sarabeth's and consider someplace where they actually care about customer service instead. If you do go, get the Budapest cake and don't even think to dilly-dally with your decision lest you be pushed down by a customer and jeered at by the employees. With regard to their famous preserves.....buy them at a specialty shop and avoid the store all together. Nothing new here, move along. read more

We got the mocha cappucino, cheese straw, chocolate pudding, and egg benedicts. Definitely recommend the cheese straw, egg benedicts, and coffee. The chocolate pudding is so so. Long lines mean good things! They have fast service and sell out very quickly. Their pistachio crossaint twist was soft and crunchy in all the right places. It's hard to find baked goods where the pistachio doesn't over power it. This was perfect and I'd definitely get it again. read more

Extremely popular, and slightly on the more expensive side, this is a welcome addition to Chelsea market to get your bread/pastry fix. While they have their regular staples here, they also have trading store items so it's great to stop by for gifts as well. The location has a bakery on site, behind a glass wall, so you have the added benefit of looking in to the Sarabeth's world. My only qualm with this place is the attitude of the staff. It's obviously a busy location, so they tend to be a bit snippy. A real shame, since the brand itself isn't about that. read more

Came here searching high and low and desperately craving for some pumpkin bread after having the best pumpkin bread from another bakery in Atlantic City. The closes they had was pumpkin muffins. I wasn't a fan of the pumpkin muffin because it contain raisins inside and it was a bit dry. But while I was in there I scouted out other delicious baked goods Sarabeth's had to offer. I LOVE LOVE their Morning cookies. It's a whole grain cookie made with oats, shredded wheat cereal and whole wheat flour. Its thin and chewy and go so well coffee or tea, but its pretty pricey as one cookie goes for 1.75. Sarabeth's makes some pretty decent buttermilk biscuits. 50 cents for Sm $1.50 for large. Got the Ginger Pecan tart thing, very very good. A bit pricey not going to lie. Pastries here run from $3-6. The pecan tart was $5.50 Also got a almond chocolate chip - nothing particularly special. NOT a huge fan of hard cookies, wish they warmed it up or were chewy for sure. Overall a pretty nice bakery to hang around and enjoy a nice cafe atmosphere. Good vibes all around.
