Wonder Twin & I are so much alike--our looks...eclectic taste in music, movies & fashion...free spirited...extreme sweet tooth...and how we both fib (ok, flat-out lie) about said sweet tooth. We had quality sister time in NY without the two boys we were traveling with--central park, the MOMA, & a stop at the Chelsea Market. I knew she'd share my appreciation for a Sarabeth's pastry. After indulging in a Peach Crumble & a Cherry Tart (both ahhhh-mazing), the boys asked us had we eaten already & we simultaneously answered, 'yes, but our pastries were tiny tiny tiny!' We didn't even have to shoot knowing looks at one another; the fib just rolled off our tongues... because the truth is if Sarabeth's pastries are big enough for Wonder Twins to share, they must be pretty decently sized. I tried their Passionfruit Meringue Tart earlier in the week before Wonder Twin flew into town & LOVED it. The staff here are crazy rude. I went twice in a week (I was staying in the area), thinking the first time the pissed-off chick behind the counter was just a fluke. Nope. These are just rude, mean, sh*tty employees. Don't make the mistake of asking a question about anything, or they'll just move on to the person behind you in line. And don't dare ask for a utensil for your cheesecake (which was just kinda "meh" anyway), or you'll get a death stare followed by a plastic fork plopped onto the bare counter instead of handed to you. Most people probably think this place is great, but I have a bone (or, in this case, a biscuit) to pick with Sarabeths. I used to go here every morning for coffee and a biscuit. Until one day after leaving Sarabeth's with my coffee and presumed biscuit, I got to my office and noticed I'd been shorted the biscuit. Ok, I didn't go back for two days, but when I did I calmly explained that the last time I was here, they forgot to give me my biscuit. Rather than just giving me my damn biscuit, the lady behind the counter said, "OhI don't know nuthin about that. I can't give you no biscuit." Being the drama king that I can be sometimes, I stormed out of there, never to return. In hindsight, I realize the statute of limitations on forgottten biscuits is probably somewhere between 5 minutes and a day. After purchasing said bread, we grabbed some soup at a shop down the way and sat down for lunch. I didnt realize how many différent SB locations, we have in the city... I've been to SB twice b4, but until today I've only tried lunch items. I Heard the pumpkin waffels, were something spécial, so I ordered them today. Actually, I phoned in the order. When I got there, I noticed they were waiting 4 me by the register. The bakery was fairly busy at the time, so I waited on lne for about 10 minutes. I also, picked up a few linzer tarts/hearts, and a choc shortbread cookie. Once, I got settled, I immediately tried the waffles. They were a lil bit cold. They were not packed well. They almost opened up in the bag, and the sour cream, and berries got all over the place. I was expecting them to be better. Maby if I didnt get them to go they would be. I will say the linzer tart/heart was AMAZING, delightful, tasty, etc... One of my favorite smell is the smell of a bakery...i always have some werid cravings and most of them involves sweets...The smell of sarebeth bakery is one of the few memories I have when I visit Chelsea market... cute cozy bakery located inside Chelsea market ... the aroma always what lure me in..came here twice and it's always over crowed..there two table seatings and a huge line inside this tiny bakery... There products aren't the best...but it is made fresh daily.. I love there packaging and how cute and delicate there pastry look..makes you want to try there products out based on how everything looks..I got two mini raspberry muffins and a slice of lemon pound cake... The lemon pound cake was moist and flavorfully...the two mini raspberry muffin wasn't that great... It was somewhat dry... The flavor was Okies.. Stopped in to get breakfast while at Chelsea Market. We must've been too early as this was one of the few places open that served coffee. I had an almond croissant, which was more like a plain croissant, and one of those doughnut holes. Bad idea - it was just an oily ball of dough. Hubs had a breakfast muffin which he liked, and a cheese danish that ended up in the garbage. Coffee is a step above Dunkin Donuts but I wasn't really a fan. There were a few ladies trying to help different people in line... They were trying to be efficient but with only one cash register and minimal counter space, that'll only get you so far. read more

If you are into baked goods (cookies, cakes, etc.), then you MUST stop in at Sarabeth's. With multiple locations in NYC, I can honestly say this is by far one of the best finds in the city! This past weekend, I got another chance to try them out at their Chelsea Market location as I was touring some friends visiting from out of town. As we walked in and perused through the options, we opted for 1) the creme brulee, and 2) a choco dipped orange apricot cookie. The creme brulee...simply AMAZING. Creamy, with caramelized sugar on top that was seared to perfection! Talk about indulgence in its own right! The cookie...melted in my mouth. Enough chocolate...and very good. The most Pathetic service I've received till now. They have tables set up outside the coffee shop in Chelsea Market. I bought coffee which had limited options first of all with almond milk. I sat down on the chair outside with my coffee, on a Friday afternoon at 2pm, working on my laptop. The server came out and asked me to leave. She said I can't be sitting there working since the other customers can't find seat. There was no other customer waiting.. Only one other table occupied and 3 of them being free i asked her about who's waiting, she did not answer, she went in and sent the owner, who was more rude than her and I asked her on what ground are you asking me to leave? She said I can't sit there and work everyday and she'll have more customers coming in next day, which was totally unreasonable. I'd never treat any of my customers that way and as a customer never expect this treatment from anyone. I'd never go here again and would suggest others to stay away too. After a morning at the driving range, I had lunch in the Chelsea market and came here for dessert. I chose the raspberry bread pudding and it was amazing and not too sweet. I had five friends with me who each had a bite and thought the same. It was not like traditional bread pudding in that I felt like it had more of a custard texture to it. Either way, it was amazing and I highly recommend it. Three stars for overall appeal of Sarabeth's located in the Chelsea Market. The women that work here are really nice in the morning, but seem to always question me whether I want skim or regular and it is ALWAYS regular (vitamin D)! You would figure they would remember the regulars, but this isn't the case. I highly recommend their iced lattes in the summer months, while opting for their large lattes in the winter. It truly is a shame they don't sell large iced lattes though. Considering they just upgraded to cup holders, large cups for cold drinks seem like a far stretch. From what I've heard, their coffee is hit or miss, but I've always had a great experience with their lattes. The way you can tell a latte is made perfectly to the tee is by the amount of sugar you need to add - none. The taste of their espresso lacks the bitterness prevalent in competing coffee shops locally. As far as the breakfast food goes, I definitely recommend their Three Bears Porridge which comes with sliced banana, brown sugar, raisins, cream, honey, and oatmeal. This is indeed such a wonderful concoction of consistency with the meshing of these items. Also recommended if you just so happen to have a toaster oven in your back pocket/cubicle are their chocolate-filled croissants. I don't have a toaster over at work, but I can only imagine the perfect crunchy-soft buttery flakes of croissant layers melting in your mouth. Sarabeth's are located all over the city, but since we were looking for something quick, so we decided against trekking up to the UWS. They're known for their preserved fruit spreads (not jam, mind you) and the Sarabeth's we went to in the Chelsea Markets is also a bakery. The menu at Chelsea Markets is limited (their kitchen isn't as large and most people just go for coffee), but they did have french toast, topped with bananas and raisins. The french toast was actually not bad, although it's probably not as good as the ones available at the Sarabeth restaurants. I didn't really care for the raisins, but the bananas and fruit spread were a good combo. The fruit spread was extra sweet and I think orange with apricots. I ordered the pumpkin waffles with a sour cream topping. These are supposed to be really special from Sarabeth's, but I couldn't have been more disappointed. :( They weren't fresh (I'm guessing they made waffles in the morning and let them sit idle while they made other baked goods because my waffles were REALLY soggy before I even put any syrup on them). Also, the waffles were lukewarm at best...I mean, couldn't you have stuck them under a heat lamp for a couple of minutes so I didn't have to eat cold waffles??! The pumpkin taste was not that special and the pumpkin seeds on top of the raisins on top of the soggy waffles just didn't do it for me. My date, on the other hand, enjoyed both dishes. I think we're going to try one of the places on the upper west side one of these days so I can write a better review of this place. We picked Sarabeth's bakery for breakfast this morning. The muffins and rolls were delicious. The decor and atmosphere are cozy and lovely. The one negative is the service. The 2 people working this morning seemed very unhappy. They barked at everyone and seemed very annoyed when we and others didn't know what we wanted, even though we were not even in line and you could tell it was the first visit for many of us. I asked if I could have butter and was told harshly that I would have to 'pay for it', which I already knew because it said so in the menu... I was just asking for butter(that I would pay for). I thought it was just me, maybe I was expecting too much, but others were saying the same thing. It was not pleasant. Maybe, the morning team had a bad night or something. Came here on Sunday afternoon. Out of town guest wanted to visit Chelsea Market. We stopped to get a snack and some kind of warm beverages. There's an area to sit with a few seat. Cute. Love being able to look at the setup of where they make the food. Service/baristas/counter help - not very helpful or friendly. Food - not very tasty. Given the reputation, I expected something decent. The cookies and bread we had could have been from a deli store near my house and I'm talking about a dumpy one. Hot chocolate wasn't great and I didn't even drink most of it. Not worth the price for sure. So overall, was not a bad experience but I don't have anything good to say so skip it and go somewhere else. read more

Sarabeth's is a lovely local respite in Chelsea Market. If you're feeling overwhelmed with the swarms of tourists or the masses of people on the High Line, I would especially recommend this small magical enclave of baked goods. The fruit pies are fresh, seasonal and adorably wrapped in a hatch mark crispy dough covered in crunchy sugar. Tea and cookies are a little on the pricey side, but lovely to munch on while sitting at one of the high tables, perusing through one of the Sarabeth's catalogues. Highly recommend! read more

This place has to be one of the most inefficient and worst run restaurants in Manhattan and it is nothing short of a complete miracle that it's still in business. Ordering anything made from scratch here is like playing Russian Roulette with your meal. Want a ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on whole wheat bread? You'd better pray that one of the ladies behind the counter decided to pay attention to you this morning, because I've gone home with entirely different things than what I've ordered. Came here on 3/5/16 - Food was okay, nothing extraordinary. But I loved seeing the different pastries and breads being cooked. Service can be turned up a bit. Their ordering process is confusing, several peoples orders were wrong, or were missing something. Sure enough we were missing a few items and it later came out once I mentioned it. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service the lady who works the cashier HAS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I bought a regular Coconut Macaroon. I took a tiny bite and the taste of it tasted like it had lemon. I advised the lady and she also agreed it had a lemon taste to it as well. So I kindly ask can I have a different flavor. She immediately got defended and VERY RUDE and said NO. She was so very rude. I got myself an almond croissant.. it was not as nice as I expected.. but up to average to enjoy..
