Came here on two separate occasions and was disappointed both times due to the service I received from the man who seemed to be the owner. The first time I ordered meat pupusas but was served with an only cheese pupusas. My husband went back to get it changed and they said they had no more and was not offered a refund. We tried Scratch again recently and was met with friendly service from the server. She was kind and attentive. A man came to take our orders and two of the handheld sandwiches came out incorrectly. There was no apology. I went up to pay our bill and asked them to split it. He asked if he wanted me to split it in half and I said yes. When he split it, one check was 29 and the other was 37. I asked him to split it evenly and he said it was not possible. I wish he would've clarified that before when he asked me if i wanted it split in half. I would suggest that the team gets to know their POS better. Overall, the food was not worth all the trouble and nonchalant service. Plus, their toilet was not clean. read more

Really impressed! Finally a place with high quality ingredients and flavorful food. The owners take pride in their food and presentation. Had the lobster roll and was delish! Added a piece of beef bacon it was was really good. My daughter had the eggs and waffles and husband had the soft shell crab sandwich. Great outside seating, great location.. Will definitely return. Lots more on the menu I want to try but I would have that same meal again it was really memorable. read more

Very excited to have a spot like this in Olney! Everything we ordered was delicious, but the home fries in particular were amazing. Super fluffy pancakes, fresh eggs & the candied maple bacon was decadent. Don't skip out on the fresh squeezed OJ either! A lot of thought and planning clearly went into Scratch Kitchen evidenced by the design of the location & the soft opening. Mediocre to poor, nothing to recommend the food or service. Much better options. I waited 40 minutes, coffee was cool, omelette not much there there, potato cubes worse than fast food, fruit not too fresh, toast cool. Servers don't listen and seem overwhelmed. Interesting breakfast spot in Olney. Went here with a friend and tried the ricotta lemon blueberry pancakes which were definitely fluffy and delicious but I only wish it had come with sides for the price. The atmosphere is very much like a mini diner, akin to breakfast spots I've visited in other states. My friend had the spinach and cheese omelet with home fries and toast and it looked like it was delicious. One thing to note: if you park on the side facing the Shell gas station you should walk to the back because the restaurant front facing the Shell isn't an entrance. Also, it gets quite crowded and the tables are really close together so you might want to go closer to closing time in order to get a decent table. Coffee sugar and cream are located near the door so if you need to get up from a table further away from that you might find yourself doing gymnastics to get from your table to the coffee sweetener/cream station. The waiter really never came back to refill my coffee or water either. We stopped in here on a Saturday around noon-1pm and it was not terribly busy but it gets crowded from the way the tables are situated. Service was just okay, just a bit too rushed without any check ins for refills, and the chef kept coming to our table to tell us around 2:35pm onward that we need to leave since they "close at 3pm" which I found a bit off-putting since most restaurants don't kick out paying customers who are wrapping up their meal 15 minutes before closing time. They didn't offer us bags for our to go food either and I had to go in the back and ask them for one. Don't know if I'll be back until the service gets better, but it was definitely worth trying out at least one time and the food seems decent enough if you're in the area and would like to get breakfast at a sit down restaurant of sorts. Just make sure you're prepared to leave before they close or you will be chased out. read more

Negative experience today. 3 employees on Memorial Day. It took 15 minutes for coffee which was never refilled. I asked for water 4-5 times and finally got a glass of warm water. Food was okay but nothing great. We were outside,tables were wet and we wiped them down ourselves. Tables are very close together outside, so conversations from other tables are loud. Just not a relaxing meal. I won't return. read more

What a great find in this area overrun with corporate food options. I love the whole farm to table concept, and you can tell the freshness of the food, as well as the care in it's preparation. Wonderful addition to Olney! Everything was amazing - I had the cheese stake with fries, teen son had a burger, spouse had pasta. The cheese steak was not the huge portion that you can barely fit in your mouth that you get at most places, it was excellent ribeye meat with real cheese, freshly grilled peppers, and a tasty bun. It came out super hot and melt in your mouth delicious. My son loved his burger and fries. Even the ketchup tasted fresh?? I don't know if they make their own ketchup but it was really good. My husband loved his pasta, and he got a huge serving. Even the water was fantastic - it was infused with cucumber and strawberries. For dessert we got German Chocolate cake and Chocolate Toffee cake. Both were delicious. The young lady taking our order and seating us was super sweet and friendly, answering all my husbands questions, and the chef was very grateful the word was getting out about their restaurant. Super disappointed trying this new establishment. Ordered via Uber - they called 20 min after I placed the order to say they did not have the item. Uber driver calls me frantic saying the kitchen said I changed the order- had to explain they didn't have it. In process of having to pick something else out that I didn't really want the person was rude and curt like it was my fault for ordering that item. I asked what else was available for the day and she said go look online. When I asked if o could get the rosemary bbq sauce in the burger she said no we are out of that, also. Asked if the menu item was being removed and got the reply, "We are a scratch kitchen, so we cannot guarantee anything in any day." wth? Then refused to adjust for the lower priced item bc it was "just $1" besides all of the inconvenience and having to wait an extra 45 min now for a mediocre burger and half cooked sweet potato fries. When I asked what other sauces they had since the rosemary bbq was out, she said hot sauce. What a bland place. Then they forgot the soda and weren't answering the phones or responding to the website texts. Terrible all around and will never order again! read more

I really liked the idea of a small breakfast cafe in Olney. The cafe itself is comfortable and relaxing inside. Nice work to the folks who designed the look and feel. Unfortunately, the food was not well cooked. My son had scrambled eggs and pancakes. I had a bacon and cheddar cheese omelette, a pancake, and potatoes. Neither one of us finished our food. You guys have to cook better. Plain and simple. Cook better. The pancakes ought to be fluffy and tender on the inside. The omelette was flat and without flavor. The potatoes were overcooked and dry. This reminded me of a McDonald's order. Please find a good pancake recipe and perfect it. Same deal with the omelettes. No reason to serve up dry overcooked potatoes. Your food simply needs to be better. Comparable to First Watch. ....not necessarily better, but comparable. Mannequin Pis and Wasabi Zen are doing well in that tough location because their food is good. They care and it shows by what they put on the table. Do better. I'm rooting for you. read more

Ordered a tuna melt and although the tuna itself was good, I wouldn't call this a tuna melt. It was more like a plain tuna sandwich. The bread was not grilled, it was just toasted and a slice of cheese thrown on. A true tuna melt is grilled, like a grilled cheese. Having recently moved to Leisure World, I've been searching for a nice place to regularly enjoy breakfast. Unfortunately, Scratch Kitchen was a big fail. It was Saturday, and things started off well with a parking space by the front door. The outdoor dining area was packed, and I walked inside. The cafe is small with less than 10 tables. However, only two tables had diners, including a large table in the center with a family of 6 chatting away. The interior is chrome and glass, so it was noisy due to poor acoustics. Nonetheless, I proceeded to the counter and informed the young man there that this was my first visit. I asked if it was okay for me to sit at a table, and he indicated I could have my pick. I walked up to the corner table, saw that it was dirty with spilled food, but there was a rag on the table suggesting that it was about to be cleaned. I stood waiting next to the table for just a few seconds before I heard another slightly older (about 30-35) man yelling across the room that I wasn't allowed to sit there. Before I could respond, he told me the table was dirty and that I needed to be respectful. I informed him of my respectful interaction with the young man, but he just loudly continued to berate me while yelling across the table of six. At that point, I realized that I would be uncomfortable dining there, and I couldn't trust my food to be handled by this person. Before I left, a woman (the manager?) came out from the back and repeatedly mouthed the words "I'm sorry", while she put her hands on him, trying to calm him down. read more

We decided to have breakfast here one morning, upon arriving I was thrown off because it is a small dining room, and I have a 3 year old. But once we were seated, they had a Disney movie playing, and he was instantly satisfied. The server even put on one my son wanted over preference of the one playing. Ok for the food.
