Met up with a couple of old friends half way between the SG valley and Irvine, and we decided to try this restaurant. The Hainan chicken was very good and it was great that it was in the same plaza as 85 degree bakery, so we got some baked goods and drinks afterwards. It was refreshing to get out of Irvine and eat some authentic and really good Asian food. read more

Always had this place on my radar since I frequent 99 Ranch (or Ranch 99 for you Bay Area people). Finally got the chance to try Seasons today for lunch. I ordered their Hainan Chicken rice (which comes with a side of soup) and pork belly (char siu/siu yuk). My coworker ordered their Maggi Mee Goreng and Char Kwey Teow. Let me tell ya, this box of rice was a sight for sore eyes. I was hurting all morning from drinking on a weeknight like an idiot. The chicken leg quarter was VERY moist and fall-apart tender and the rice was aromatic and cooked perfectly. Soup was perfectly seasoned. Light and just the right amount of salt. Pork belly/siu yuk skin was nice and crunchy and the meat itself was nice and springy and also moist/flavorful. With that being said, everything was a bit bland (aside from the pork belly), especially the ginger sauce. Perhaps I'm just accustomed to Canto style ginger sauce for this dish, but I added a decent amount of salt to get it to how I like it. While the rice was good and flavorful, I've definitely had better (and I've also had much worse). It just didn't really have that craveability where I'm willing to eat just heaps of rice alone. I had 3-4 bites of my coworker's noodles and again, a little bland. Both dishes tasted the same, so it kinda just comes down to preference: Do you like instant ramen type noodles or flat rice noodles? Anyway, glad I finally got around to trying Seasons. I was in the area with my friend and her kids for their appointment. While she was busy, I was in charge of looking up what we were going to eat afterwards. I wanted to try something new. I'm Filipino so I've had Jollibee and the other options in the same plaza as Seasons Kitchen. I let my friend look at the menu and she made a decision within 30 seconds, the fishball soup. I decided to go with the house special shrimp rice and the roti with chicken curry sauce. I planned on calling Seasons Kitchen once we were wrapping up with the appointment and by the time I called, my phone internet just stopped connecting and the menu wouldn't load. I called anyways and tried to order based on what I remembered. The employee on the phone was super patient and kind. She didn't get frustrated, upset or annoyed. I think we were both laughing a little at how much I was struggling to remember the dishes and she knew exactly what I was talking about - amazing. Our food was ready in 10 minutes. The order was correct and they even add a free vegetarian curry paste packet from the little shop inside their restaurant! The Malaysian Roti Canai with chicken curry sauce had a label that it's considered the best. I've never had it before. Fortunately, I can say it's the best I've had yet! My friend and I thought the naan-like bread had a great crispy texture on the outside and was super yummy dipping it in the curry. We loved the food. We'd come back here again. Tbf, I have never gotten that item again so maybe that's what it is too. I grew up on Indonesian food and this spot is almost as close as you can get in this part of OC. They are located in a 99 Ranch Plaza so getting this after some grocery shopping is the perfect combination. I've had a good amount of their menu, but I think our favorite item now is the Half & Half Pork Belly w/ Rice. I've had their other menu items, Nasi Lemak, Maggi Mee Goreng and the Bak Tut Teh which are all super solid too! I also really enjoy the soup that comes with their dishes. My favorite restaurant of all time. I've been going here for the last 5 years and have recommended it to many of my friends. My go-to dish is their crispy pork that's cooked to perfection and pairs amazing with their seasoned rice and egg noodles. I've also tried their beef rendang and nasi goreng and both were very good. I also love their potato puffs as an appetizer. Everything that I've tried here have been hits. The food is always fresh and you can taste it. The owners are a very sweet and kind couple. They limit their opening hours to preserve their food's freshness and quality and I really admire that. When you enter the store, you'll often see videos of Uncle Roger playing on the tv. The store also operates as a little snack shop. They have shelves full of Malaysian snacks and goods that you can buy, as well as merchandise and cultural items. Sweet Kaya jam and butter on nice toast served with soft boiled eggs for dipping- cracked and mixed at your table. So cool! We also had the Curry Roti and Crispy Pork with rice, both of which were amazing. The flavor and crunch of the pork was perfect and the curry to dip the roti in was flavorful and full of chicken. To drink we had hot milk tea - it was fun to watch our server pull the tea as she served it. The best place about Seasons Kitchen is the service. In terms of Malaysian food, I don see or have a lot of restaurants where live. Me and a few friends were heading through the area and found this place. So glad we ended up here! We ordered some roti with curry and kaya toast for the table. I ordered the laksa curry noodles for myself. For the laksa curry noodles, you get a choice between rice and egg. I chose the rice noodles. The curry roti came out first and I really liked it. Great appetizer to just tear up and dip into this delicious curry to get your appetite ready for the rest of the food. We then started getting our dishes. I think the kaya toast takes a little time to set up so we didn't see that till pretty much in the middle of the meal. I will say though, the kaya toast is super delicious and it's famous for a reason. I don't think my mom ever made me kaya toast growing up, but the flavors were so reminiscent of a breakfast thing my mom made me growing up. Oh, I'm not sure they always do this, but the restaurant wasn't super busy at the time and a person came out and actually finished making the kaya toast at our table by cracking the soft boiled eggs and mixing it into the bowl with a few other ingredients. I also thoroughly enjoyed the laksa curry noodles. Super flavorful, tons of stuff inside the bowl, and the noodles were amazing. I got a couple bites from what my friends were having as well which is why I included the pictures. Towards the end of the meal, I got up and looked around at the different food items they were selling. It's so fun and interesting to look at what they have available. I'm really not used to that especially in the restaurants where I have near my apartment. I definitely would go back to try a lot of the other items they have in the menu and would recommend it to friends as well. I cannot be more in love with this restaurant! Though a small establishment, they sure pack a lot of action and even more flavor in their dishes! They are located in the same plaza as Anaheims' 99 ranch. It's a small store to the left of 99 ranch (if you are facing the grocery store). There are probably a max of 5-6 tables inside, with a few shelves for groceries unique to the Singapore/Malaysian/Indonesian area. Along with 3 friends, we waited about 20 minutes around 1pm on Saturday to get seated. You order at the counter, and wait for your turn for a table to free up. There are many options on the menu, and we wanted to try them all. As we were about to order, we realized their SUPER SURVIVAL FAMILY KIT where it comes with 7-8 dishes, inclusive of the signature dishes that we were going to order anyway. The price was so cheap that we decided to order it. The super set is meant for 6-8 people, but we were 4 hungry hungry hippos and we came close to finishing it. It definitely is a good choice if you can't decide what to get, and don't mind having leftovers. Food came out quickly and boy were we in for a treat. I'm only going to mention my favorites: - Chicken Satay (Juicy with a delicious/chunky peanut dipping sauce) - Char Siu and Roasted Pork (sweet marinade and meat well done, crispy skin on the pork) - Char Kwai Tieu (good wok hey) - Curry Laksa (THE FLAVOR!!! I remember seeing the Kumaar Family on YouTube receiving a care package, & in the special care package was this awesome Malay shirt sent directly from Seasons Kitchen ! So that was basically the final straw to get me over to this joint ! One if not my top favorite cuisine is Malaysian/Indonesian. If you're familiar with the dishes, you know there isn't much to choose from in OC to make these sedap dishes. Even going to grocery stores, selections are always limited on Indonesian/Malaysian products. I came here specifically to see the products they had for sale & to get my hands on one of those shirts. I can't believe I have never seen this place before, as I have been to this plaza a handful of times because of the 99 ranch, Jollibee & Dimsum place. I walk in & it's very clean & airy. All of the products are neatly laid out against the back wall. There was so much ! Yes it is a bit higher than what you would pay in a grocery store... some of these items you can't find anywhere else such as Char Koay Teow sauce. I ended up paying a little over $40 for the items. But this time we ordered take outs. The packaging to the food was clean and organized. I was looking forward the most to eat the hainan chicken rice. I saw this place out of the blue and decided to try it out, and it did not disappoint! Staff were very welcoming and attentive, making sure I was taken care of. The owners and I even had a good conversation while waiting for my order! I ordered the Half and Half Dry Noodle on recommendation, and it was soo good! It hit my cravings in the right spots!! The first half of my dish was BBQ pork and was caramalized to perfection. The other half was crispy pork, which had a very nice crunch and was the perfect bite. Together with the noodles that were cooked to the right chew and sauced very generously, it was a heavenly combo. To top it off, I had the ABC Ais Kachang as a dessert. 4.5 stars. We had Seasons Kitchen bookmarked for a while, and decided to check it out for lunch. The line got quite long shortly after we arrived around 12:30PM on a Sunday; we managed to snag one of the last tables for dine-in. That said, service is prompt and the food comes out very quickly, so turnover is quick. The menu is a nice size, with plenty of options. Prices seem very fair. Service was phenomenal throughout, with every employee very professional and friendly. The food was very tasty; we enjoyed sardine puffs, curry laksa, and crispy skin pork with noodle soup. The soups were all piping hot and the crispy pork skin was so crunchy! The laksa was also very rich in flavor. We enjoyed a bowl of ABC shaved ice for dessert. There are also some goods to the side of the restaurant for sale if you want to do some shopping for Malaysian/Indonesian/Singaporean things. I was a bit bummed that they no longer have Bak Kut Teh rib soup, as I love having the Taiwanese version whenever I go back to Taiwan. I was also intrigued by mung bean Ang Ku Kueh, as the Taiwanese version uses a red bean filling instead, but alas, they were sold old that day. I wasn't really hungry coming to this restaurant, but that just shows how good this place really is. I give this place 4+ star for taste, 5 star for service, and 5 star for value. I come from the Bay Area so the Malaysian options there are somewhat limited. There seems to be many in SoCal. I'm lucky to have found this gem. I was very impressed with the char kwe tiau. They put a little bits of pork skin surprise in their version. It's a hit for our family of 4. We asked for the sambal on the side because I have young kids. I bet it would've been even better all mixed in while hot in the wok. The curry laksa noodle is something new for me. I usually have laksa in Singapore, and there isn't much stuff in the laksa. Usually it's tofu, maybe a couple shrimps, bean sprouts, hard boiled egg and noodles. This place added so much more stuff. There is mushroom, chicken and I'm not sure if there was also fish cake in there. It's almost overkill, but I'd rather have more than less since I haven't had this version of laksa before. The flavor is also very rich so be sure to share with a partner. The half and half pork rice is the star of the meal. For $10 you get probably one of the best tasting skin crispy roast pork and sweet flavorful char su. I was pleasantly surprised they also serve it with chicken rice which just contrast the pork flavors so well. They give you a side of soup. If the soup was better this would've been a 6 star dish, but I can't complain. The dish is already amazing and plenty in portion. I would've paid $16-18 for the same dish in the bay. A side order of chicken rice is only $2.50 and you get a heaping bowl. I brought my food to go and it's enough for another meal. What value! Service was the best. Food came out fast. They know what they're doing there. The owner was there and gave great attention to our family and service dog. We also purchased some snacks and spice mix which is a great compliment to an excellent meal. If I lived in SoCal this is my go to place for comfort southeast Asian home cooking. read more

After watching a netflix series called Street food in Asia, I was definitely inspired to try a local version of Singaporean/ Malaysian food. Here's the Verdict: I am SO glad to rediscover this gem! The owner, Soon was very gregarious and asked about my heritage: Taiwanese as well as my plus +1 and suggested recommendations based on our palettes and preferences. Appetizers ordered: 3 of their flaky curry puffs. One was potato, the other was chicken + potato, and lastly their delectable Malaysian Mackerel curry puff. The Mackerel was such a surprise! The flavors are rich but not over-powering and complement perfectly with the flaky puff. This is a must-try! Soon, the business owner was very attentive and explained that all the products used are imported from Malaysia to give an authentic original taste. Entree: I ordered the 1/2 BBQ char siu, 1/2 Siew Yoke (Crispy Skin Roast Pork Belly) with garlic rice, this was definitely the star of the meal. For only $10 the portion size is plentiful and comes with a side of soup! We also tried the curry laksa which was definitely the comfort note of this ensemble. Drink: Lychee with rose syrup, unique part of the tea process in Malaysia is that their tea is produced in the highlands and has a slight sour end-note. I was super curious to try this, honestly it's just perfectly sweet to my palette, no sour end notes. Loved chatting with the business owner and hearing about his interesting life journey! My doordash orders for the past month have Seasons Kitchen USA at least 1x a week! I have only had one negative experience, and that is one time when I ordered. If I'm in the area and miss my mom's home cooking then I'd stop by Seasons Kitchen. Growing up eating, pretty much, all the items they serve in the menu, Seasons Kitchen doesn't disappoint...most of the time. It's still one of the places I thought of whenever I'm mentioning my family's home cooking to someone. I have also brought many people here and they all liked it. Appetizers: I grew up eating all these items. In my own personal satisfaction, nothing stood out for me, however, if you were to choose any appetizers, here are the ones I'd recommend from Seasons Kitchen: Roti Canai (Curry Roti), Chicken Satay, and either the sardine/chicken puffs. Entree: The Char Kwey Teow and Nasi Goreng Kampung are always good. Being Teochew, if the Char Kwey Teow is not good, I'd never come back. The Laksa Noodle is pretty good, could be better, in my opinion. The Nasi Lemak w/ Beef Rendang - my favorite order because rendang is my favorite dish - is a hit or miss. The main dish for this plate is the rendang, and at times the beef is just not tender enough. And it's not because of the way it's cooked, sometimes, it's just the way it's cut. Again, my opinion. Their pork char siu is pretty good also - not much to critic here. I wished they would have the Bak Kut Teh again. It's a prominent dish is the Teochew community. It's a dish that's big in Malaysia and Singapore. Their Bak Kut Teh had a good flavor, though I remember wishing for more meat (ribs), tofu, and mushroom. Service and ambiance of the place are nothing to complain about. I felt that I've always received good service. They had the TV on last time I went and played classics. Not sure if the they still do the ukulele thing on Tuesdays. But last time I brought my mom here for her birthday, years ago, the owner brought out the uke and sang her happy birthday in three languages.
