A review for my custom makeover experience: It was horrible on all levels. Sure I guess I couldve complained about it during the time when the makeup artist was working on my face but 1. I had to be out within an hour and didnt want her to have to keep redoing areas that she first took a long time to complete and 2. Didnt really want to insult her work... But here I am because if you need to get your makeup done for a special occassion, I would recommend you either not come here or have a specific person in mind that you know does makeup well so youre not disappointed. At each step of the process, I looked at my face and thought "well maybe I can fix it a little bit later, no big deal". At one point i told her my eyeliner was extremely uneven...which she tried to fix to the best of her ability, but didnt really turn out nice. I let it go. Once it all came down to it, I was completely horrified! I mean, I couldve done it better myself. I left, went home and wiped off all my makeup. Because at that point I wouldve rather gone to my event bare face than looking like that. Im sorry, but ALL their beauty specialist should be trained properly to do make up on other people. I come to this Sephora often because I live near by and it's easier to get to then the one in Valley Fair Mall. I am Very disappointed by your employee that was on the register on August 30,2019 that goes by the name of Katy tall dark blonde hair girl. Those Sephora lines can get super long and I was up next in line, this lady cuts me and everyone waiting in line and tells her daughter to give her all the stuff "very fast very fast I'll buy it now" then Katy chooses to ring her up and I said hey she cut all of us line in here, you need to tell her to wait like everyone else. Katy looks up at me and tells me to "calm down" and she's still ringing her items. I said look if you don't ask her to get back in line and tell her to wait then I would like to talk to your manager. Of course she stops ringing the items. The lady goes okay I'll just leave and wait now then. It was just ridiculous she let her do that and didn't care about how everyone in line felt. Please show her how to have better customer service. I used to work at Sephora few years ago when I asked her about what concealer I bought a few months ago she said she didn't know what it was because it was a sampler, I know you can look up purchases on the beauty insider but she didn't want to be helpful either. This is not my usual Sephora, but it is within walking distance from my job. This is the second time I've stopped in here after work and the second time I've had an excellent experience! Today it was quite busy but there were plenty of associates to help people, no one had to compete for attention. The first thing I needed help with was my shade of foundation being pulled from backstock (the cool little drawer below the product), I had no problem finding someone to help me with that. The second thing I needed was some advice on what the best shade of blush I should wear for a wedding I'm going to be in soon, I immediately got help with that and was confident in the advice given to me. Finally, I made my way to the checkout counter and had a very pleasant exchange with the cashier. She asked if I wanted to have my perk facial and I figured, sure, why not. She offered me some water while I waited for the few minutes it would take for me to be seen. Ayel was my Skincare Advisor and she was absolutely wonderful! When we spoke she seemed genuinely interested in what I was saying, she recommended products based on my skin type, and we chatted about every day topics, and I never felt like I was just another customer, our entire encounter felt like I was hanging out and chatting with one of my friends. She's absolutely wonderful!! The facial itself is a full-on, exfoliating, hydrating facial. Not just a bunch of creams and lotions slapped on. DEFINITELY well worth it!! So my takeaways: -This location is well-staffed and there are enough associates to be able to help everyone. -All of the associates are friendly and helpful. -If you're a VIB you get a free facial with a $75 purchase -Ayel is AMAZING and if you do get a facial there, ask for her!! read more

Weirdest customer service experience ever. Came to do an exchange from online and brought my things in the box they came in. (I ordered lashes and lipgloss, so you can imagine the box was pretty small) While doing the return, the cashier looked at the box and informed me that I'd have to dispose of it myself, and directed me to dispose of the box outside the store. Wait, what?!?! She commented that they "don't really have a way to dispose of the cardboard".... So, what you're saying is that your shipments don't come in boxes?! My disappointment wasn't about me throwing it away myself, I'm fully capable. The disappointment was with the lack of customer service. Even if it is the case- not disposing of cardboard, which I'm sure it's not, how hard is it to get one of the 4 other employees mulling around the store doing nothing, to do it? Just shoddy service. Shopping at Sephora is another guilty pleasure of mine. If I'm ever in a bad mood and need a little pick-me-up, I can always count on Sephora to put a smile on my face. I can get lost in Sephora because there are just so many brands and products. If I even look a little confused, there's always someone to help me. I was introduced to their reasonably priced Sephora lipsticks (which I absolutely love). My skin has been super sensitive lately because of the cold, winter weather. My cosmetologist friend suggested that I switch my powder. I used Mac but it wasn't great for my skin. The gal at Sephora showed me their Bare Mineral BarePro powders and I fell in love. I don't need to put on a foundation before using it. I just put on a combination moisturizer and primer by Hello Fab before putting on my face. I got my eyeliner here, too. I use Clinique's Quick Liner in intense black. I like that it's a twist-type eyeliner...no need to sharpen. They have tons of perfume and cologne to peruse. Unfortunately, they don't carry my favorite scent from Issey Miyake but they had many other scents to choose from. If you're undecided, you can always ask for a sample of your favorite choices. With my frequent buyer points, I was able to get a sample size of Kat Von D's "Saint". I love it. It's subtly sexy. So ladies, if you have $20 burning a hole in your pocket, come here for a little retail therapy. A gal can always use a new lipstick or eyeliner. read more

Quite honestly I'm not sure why there is a Sephora here, just steps away from the much larger and much more technologically advanced location in Valley Fair mall. That being said, I do find it convenient when I'm at Santana Row and want to run in to pick up a couple of sheet masks or a specific product. This would not be my go to location just to browse around though. As with most other Sephoras, I've not had good experiences with the mini makeovers. This is because Sephora cast members are not required to have any formal makeup application training. They don't know what they are doing. Every time I have asked an employee for advice or gotten any part of my makeup done, it comes out terrible. Today I came in to try on a foundation and it became a huge drawn out process where I had a face mask slathered thickly all over my face, WIPED off with makeup remover (?!), followed by an extremely heavy handed makeup application with a color that was all wrong for my skin. I would never ask a Sephora employee for any makeup advice, better off going to Nordstrom or a department store. read more

Been here a couple times... and to my surprise, getting in and out isn't as bad as one might think. I parked in the garage across from Starbucks, near the steps/elevator and you walk right up and out and Sephora is up on the left... very easy. What I have noticed about this store, is everything is neat and tidy. Displays aren't thrashed and pretty much most items have been in stock. Went in the other night to buy my Cleopatra and didn't see it myself so I asked an employee and he immediately found it for me... it was actually right there, I just missed it. The thing though that stuck with me... I told the guy that I needed the Cleopatra and he knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. He was awesome. I would rather go to the Sephora in Valley Fair although it's more crowded and the lines are always long. The employees are waaay more welcome and hospitable over there. First thing that I noticed was how empty it was when I went. They only had one employee on the floor while the other two was at the register. I was never greeted, nor offered any help. The displays here are extremely small and unpractical. I was looking for the Anastasia Brow Powder Duo and all of their product was on a small shelf that made it very difficult to find the shade I wanted. It was very unorganized and messy so I had to dig through all of their product to find what I needed. When I went to the cashier, I saw there was a container of free samples on the counter and Cashier A was offering them to her customers while Cashier B was not. Unfortunately I was stuck with Cashier B and was not offered a sample. Uhhhh hello??? Why would you NOT offer me a free sample when I can SEE your coworker offer them to everyone else? This is my first visit to this location. Ive always been visiting the store located at Westfield mall because its more convenient when am shopping there. Today I decided to give this store a try, and am glad that I did. I was welcomed by a very nice lady, who offered me a help immediately. The reason for my visit is that I needed a Kat Von D pressed powder foundation that Ive been using for a long time. Unfortunately they are repackaging the brand and will take about a month to have it back. So I asked a beautiful lade I think her name is Shanou or Shanon for a similar product and she was very honest and amazing at finding exact same result of the Kat Von D pressed powder I am looking for, the bare minirals. For the skin product Ayel was so helpful at finding my perfext cleanser( first aid brand) moisturizer ( Josie Maran) and the radiance kit from Murad to try it out before I buy the full package of everyone. I am only slightly better with makeup as a mid/late 20-year-old than I was when I first exited the womb. And even though I love watching YouTube videos by Michelle Phan and bubzbeauty, I just can't seem to go from viewer to doer. That said, I keep trying to pick up tips and tricks when I can, and wherever I can. One Saturday afternoon, I visited Sephora Santana Row with two of my best girl friends (that is, after two of us went to Sephora Valley Fair because we don't fully read text messages... oops). Anywho, my friend, Jacque C., and I were the first ones scheduled for one of the 45-minute custom makeovers. But instead of meeting with Sephora team members, we each got paired up with a makeup rep (she got someone from Givenchy; I got someone from Yves Saint Laurent). As reps, they both primarily used products from their respective brands. This didn't bother me too much because I liked most of the products that were applied, and they did the job, but I think I'd like to see a Sephora team member next time just in case there are other products that might work even better. If you make an appointment online or by phone, definitely check-in to see who you'll be working with if you have a preference. At the very beginning, the rep asked me what I was looking for and I gave her a photo of actress Li Bingbing when she was in Transformers: Age of Extinction. I loved her bold lashes and oxblood lipstick! I talked about getting a smokey eye in addition to the vampy lip color, but the rep told me she'd keep the smokey eye fairly light so that more emphasis would be on the lip color. The makeovers are supposedly 45 minutes long, but the rep took her time and ended up giving me an appointment that was closer to an hour, an hour and 15 minutes. I really appreciated the fact that she didn't just rush through. While it also wasn't a lesson on application, she did point out the products one by one and had me glance in the mirror after she worked on my foundation, eyes, brows, and cheeks so that I could get a sense of what was added each time. At the end, though, she had another appointment to run to and had me transition over to a Sephora rep, Olivia, for the lipstick. Olivia had appointments for makeovers of her own, but she still took her time to apply lipliner and lipstick, and find me someone who could apply false lashes (my first time!). I was handed off to Mario who deftly applied false lashes and also touched up my makeup before he helped me checkout. The YSL Touch Eclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation (B45 - Bisque) was not yet available in stores, so he gave me a two-week sample that would last until the one I ordered was delivered to me. And instead of having to go around to grab all the products, and then line up at the register, Mario told me to sit and relax while he went and got everything I agreed I wanted to purchase that day. He was able to process the sales right from the comfort of the makeover area. In addition to the foundation, I found out I really liked the following products: YSL Felt-Tip Eyeliner Pen (1 Black) YSL Lipstick (206 Grenat Satisfaction, matte brown red) Beautyblender sponges Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb I enjoyed going to this Sephora and will definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

Me and the mom are off to do our lipstick haul. Most of the people there were nice, offering if they can find you anything etc. There were some products that were gone from the shelf and 2 of the salesladies were glad to find it for us. My only negative was once we got to the cashier, she was not so helpful. We had $15 off coupon but there was a certain price point we had to reach. So all she said was "i can't give you the 15 off coz you're $2 short blah blah" okaaaaay attitude. I work in customer service and that is not how you address a customer lady! She didnt even ask if we would like to add an additional product to avail our discount. I just grabbed another product myself, rang up our items like we were wasting her time and didnt even offer any samples. I was looking to the other cashier beside her that offered the other customer a couple samples to try. (Im not sample hungry but im looking for more of her courtesy to offer it,be friendly/polite to her customers) Overall experience was really good from the beginning until we went to check out. My new go-to Sephora location! - Organized, clean, well-stocked! Yes, yes and yes! - EVERY employee I interacted with today was friendly and knowledgable (unlike the questionable service at Valley Fair..) Anyway, I ended up here because I made the mistake of leaving my house without a face on. Usually, it'd be okay, but not today. Today, I needed a face. You see, I had an unexpected event to go to after work, and since I didn't have enough time to go back home, I decided to go to the next best place (my second home): Sephora, duh! Thankfully, my VIB Rouge membership finally came in handy. Complimentary 45 minute makeovers.. why haven't I been utilizing these?!? Verenise was my makeup artist and she made sure my brows, face, eyeliner, contour, lips, everything was 100% on fleek, on point. Unfortunately, she's usually at the Burlingame location so I'm not sure if she'll ever see this or if I'd ever see her again :,( I'm usually a bit skeptical about people doing my makeup, but after this experience I'm definitely going to utilize those Rouge privileges (because who knows if I can really achieve this again next year LOL). This review is for Jose!! This is a new location and I've only been in one time prior to today but not for anything important but today I was on a mission. I take customer service very important so if I'm not helped I will leave and literally never return ever. I see a lot of mixed reviews about this location but I wanted to share my experience from today. I came in because I have been feeling so behind in the skin care routine and I've been doing some research on things but I always feel like the best thing to do is go to someone in person. So that's what I did, I waited around for a little while which is typical at a place like this. People need to understand that Sephora is a full service salon, when they are helping a customer they're usually 100% invested and so they're going to take a little while when they're working so patience is key when you come in here, you can't clone people. Anyways.... so I finally asked an available consultant about helping me start up a skin care routine and she paged Jose and thank the lord she did!! Jose went above and beyond to help me. He listened to what I was looking for, and he offered his professional advice to me about which products he felt would be best for MY skin type. He even asked my personal preference on my ethics for brands (I.e. if I prefer vegan products). He pulled a variety of skin care products for me and for each and every product he had so much knowledge and a list of reasons as to why he chose it for me. He explained to me what each product was and what it will do to help my skin. He told me how much to use and how long to wait in between. He never once judged me for my poor skin care routine now, he made sure to emphasize which products were more important versus which ones you can purchase for extra help (but let's be real, I'm hella extra). You can tell he wasn't trying to upsell me or make me buy the most stuff he was trying to be mindful of cost and what was needed. I left feeling so stress free and excited to start investing in my skin because it's so important. This is why I go to Sephora over places like ulta our department stores. This is what Sephora is all about, Jose helped me for probably an hour and not once made me feel like a burden. I come here a couple times a month to either buy or check out anything new. The customer service here is pretty good. I like the layout of the store. Yesterday, I was browsing in fragrance and was approached by Sarahi. She was extremely kind right off the bat. She asked which perfumes I've been looking at and if unneeded help with any. She helped my looking for a coconut one but unfortunately there weren't any in stores. She gave me two suggestions she thought I'd like. And I did! She gave my samples of them. Let me start with a name, LAUREL or LAURA "a manager" supposedly turned my returning experience upside down so quickly. I came in to make some returns and walked up to a fantastic gentleman named Nick, he was amazing. Unfortunately half way through my return of about 8 items total (I spend a lot of my money at Sephora and sometimes things don't work out) Laurel took over. She has a rude demeanor just right off the top, then she has no knowledge of the return process stating that my receipt on my phone wasn't a valid receipt when in all actuality it is. I had to tell her that all she needed to do was type on the order number and surprise surprise that worked. Two or three items in a row (after Nick who was in training had no issues finding my items on my VIB account) she handed each item back and said "I can't find it" with a rude tone and look on her face. I even showed her the receipt on my phone and said "look, I have the proof right here." She still wouldn't accept it since it wasn't showing up in her system. I asked her if I could speak with another manager and she said "I am a manager" and I said "I know, can I speak with ANOTHER manager." She said sure, called the other manager up and before I could say anything she explained to the other manager why I wanted further assistance, but of course she explained the whole situation in a way that prompted the other manager to say that she would have done the same thing. THEN for some reason I decided to stay in the shop around and LAUREL was going around the store to the other employees talking about me, I know this because the first person she spoke to I overheard her (she obviously didn't know I was still there). Then 2 other employees she was whispering to and they both looked over at me. Completely unacceptable, rude, unprofessional and just an all around poor manager and horrible person. Do not go to this Sephora, and if you do, stay away from Laurel as she will make what is supposed to be a fun time turn negative with just one look. read more

I was just at this location about an hour or two ago, and I had a brunette girl named Tawny help me out with something I was almost positive was a lost cause! I came in to check out the Tarte amazonian clay foundation and pick my color out. Once I had actually picked the right one (out of about 20 or so) I looked on the back to check the name of said color, and it had been rubbed clean off! You could see half of one letter, but that was it. I asked Tawny to help me figure out which shade it was, and she took a good 5-10 minutes comparing shades for me to find the match. But since I had come in before a lunch date and was in a rush to leave, we were unable to conclude what the shade was, which was totally fine with me because I KNEW she had tried so hard! Much to my surprise, after I left, as I was crossing the street down the way, I saw her running over to me to tell me that she had figured out the shade! I was so happy and completely blown away that she tracked me down! Tawny is awesome!!! Honestly giving this place 5 stars because of the employees who work here and help me out all the time! It might be different for others but every single time that I come here many of the employees are very knowledgeable in products and recommendations and never ever give me that stuck up vibe. I've walked into a Sephora before looking like a 10 year old, (yes no makeup and graphic tees haha) and I've been ignored. Knowing that it is in a very high end retail area I'm glad to say that I am comfortable coming into this store feeling super welcomed. Then again, some 10 year olds nowadays know how to contour, bake, and blend eyeshadows so what am I even saying.... Andrea here is amazing. Found my product in one 30 second phone call, had 2 waiting for me when I arrived plus suggested a better product. In and out plus better product knowledge than associates at valley fair store. Plus valley fair does not know the right price or product after 3 calls, being put on hold, being quoted the wrong price by $20 (I'm referring specifically about the valley fair associate named Janette, see my one star review for that location), the Santana Row location, especially Andrea put my faith back in Sephora.
