We ended up adding more people to our group, and they kindly accommodated us by putting our tables together. Our waiters were very friendly and warm. We split various dishes so we got to try a bunch of things. The calamari was grilled and tasted super fresh. The Ceasar salad was simple and also similarly intense in its freshness. The lasagna was my favorite pasta - very warm and comforting. The pappardelle with crab tasted light and the crab was a tad on the saltier side, but it offset the sweetness of the tomatoes. The gnocchi was the table's favorite. The prosciutto and mushroom pinsa is a good thing to split and is one of the most popular dishes. We found street parking off on the side. Single occupant restroom available. Indoor and outdoor seating. Credit cards accepted. It's good for an intimate dinner or for a big group of friends (provided you make a reservation in advance). The service was amazing. It's run by two brothers who are such sweethearts. I absolutely adored the decor. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the brothers and they helped us throughout the menu. Cocio E Pepe - 5/5 - the pasta was well made and cooked perfectly. The sauce was perfectly seasoned and it didn't feel so heavy. I absolutely loved this dish. Lasagna - 4/5 - The lasagna was amazing. The sauce was beautiful and the ratio to cheese, pasta and meat was amazing. My only complaint was the portion was so small. Overall this restaurant has such a nice atmosphere and the owners are so nice. It was one of the customers birthday that day and the whole restaurant was singing happy birthday. Probably drove by this place 100 times before ever coming here. But damn, This place is so good! I love Italian and lived in North Beach for multiple years and this is probably the best Italian food I have had here. The Mozzarella Di Bufala and Prosciutto wrapped around Pear were genuinely some of the best appetizers I've ever had. Also the Bucatini past with red sauce (I think this was a special not on menu) was so flavorful and delicious. Our server was also very friendly and funny. Serafina is an amazing, cozy, italian spot in Nob Hill. I went with 5 friends and easily got a reservation for a Friday night, despite it being a small space. We were warmly welcomed by Zaza our server, who joked with us the whole time, gave great wine recommendations, and was spot on about the top specials. Zaza made our experience really special, and it felt he was having as much fun as we did :) We started with a bottle of Sangiovese Caravaggio and Vermentino, highly recommend both of those. The Sangiovese was full bodied, not many tannins or legs, but hints of stone fruit. The Vermentino was easy to sip, not too dry or too sweet, great choice for friends who are torn between a Sav Blanc and Chardonnay. They also brought us bread (with refills) which went beautifully with the fried mozzarella stuffed with prosciutto antipasti. Every single dish we got was incredibly flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and tasted so fresh. I ordered one of the nightly specials Papardelle with sausage and mushrooms, which was cooked beautifully. My friends ordered the Rigatelle pesto and Pinsa Picante, both were comforting and the pesto tasted like the basil just came from the garden. We also got the Spaghetti al Nero and Spaghetti with eggplant, both of which had so much flavor and the sauces did not feel heavy at all. We also indulged in desserts, eating the Lemon Torte, Profiteroles, and Tiramisu, all of which were so delicious. Zaza asked us if we wanted any coffee and while we hesitated, I am so glad I got a cappuccino, it was like drinking a golden treasure. We don't usually go out on Valentine's Day but circumstances made this an exception. After reading many reviews of great Italian restaurants, we came across Serafina. This is a small powerhouse of Italian cuisine. We were greeted by Fausto and quickly seated at our table. We started with our usual glasses of bubbly, and then made our dinner selections. For a starter we had the burrata wrapped in prosciutto. It had a beautiful softness and sweetness to it, that I've never experienced before. This was the genuine article. For main courses, we had the house made.gnocchi in a sparerib ragu and the tortellini special. Rich and delicious large portions. We finished with Nona's lemon torte. Fabulous! Their menu consist of a wide variety of delicious Italian dishes. Their wine list is good size with some excellent choices will buy the glass, buy the bottle and even buy the half bottle. Service was attentive and on spot. Bustling bistro style on a place. Not usually open on Tuesday but Valentine's Day was an exception for them this year. We were so torn on which entrees to get between the two of us, we ended up ordering three AND dessert. The eggplant parm - pure comfort food and tasted like perfection; from the fresh tomato sauce to the cheesy crust that's not too heavy. The gnocchi was chef's kiss - the short rib was so tender, I almost cried in its arms. And the pinsa - which I understand is newer to the menu - fantastic addition; I burnt my mouth 3 times eating it so fast. Wonderful little neighborhood restaurant. Very small so either go early or make a reservation. We were lucky they had a table to accommodate a party of two when we showed up. The two gentlemen running the dining room were very sweet and helpful. We got a bottle of wine which was very good and reasonably priced. Then we decided we were going to share an appetizer, a pasta, and a main. And they split the pasta in the kitchen so we had our own plates and put the main in the center. We got the smoked salmon appetizer which they make in house and it was perfect in flavor and texture. The Halibut was delicious not too much sauce to hide the flavor of the fish. The potatoes that came with it were very good, I could've eaten more if we hadn't had the pasta. Pasta is made fresh in house and cooked al dente. Sauce on it wasn't overwhelming. read more

Came here for the first time for a friend's birthday and might I just say I can't wait for the next time to come back. Key word for our experience: AMAZING The food: I had the Pappardelle Al Granchio which they advertise is wild crab. Wow it tasted so good, the flavor was perfect and the amount of crab meat was generous as well. I ate too much of the bread (which is also really good btw) and was too full so I took half of it home but it was super good the next day too! The jury is still out on this one and I intend to return to investigate. Serafina has been on my restaurant's to check out list for a very long while now. I finally convinced my niece to try something new and give Serafina a try as my niece is vegan, though slowly coming over to my side of the aisle (pescatarian). Due to our trying to locate parking we arrived later than I had hoped (8:40ish). From the menu we ordered the Carpaccia di Salmone which my niece loved; me not so much as I expected the lemon zest to be detectable, but it was not so. My niece ordered the Fettuccine Gamberi, Rughetta e Pomodori Freschi - she enjoyed it but like me, is a slow eater and didn't have a chance to finish due to the restaurant closing on time (10pm) I ordered the Rombo ai Porcini. I had been salivating over the Serafina's menu ALL DAY and imagined my order to be a filet of halibut plated with roasted rosemary potatoes and veggies. What I got (and I wished I took a photo) was a mosh-pit of what appeared to be bottom of the barrel barely there detectable white fish mixed in with a medley of porcini mushrooms, 1 teeny tiny, fingerling potato divided into 5 smaller pieces, and 3 to 4 small Romanesco broccolini (which was the star of the plate). For me, the porcini mushroom medley was over salted and too buttery to taste. The barely detectable white fish was cooked so much that it literally desolved the minute it hit my tongue. The fingerling potato was disappointing because I expected several WHOLE or HALVED fingerling potatoES = (meaning more than a teeny tiny 1 divided up small 5 smaller slices), I couldn't tell if the one fingerling potato had been roasted, and I barely tasted the rosemary, so for flavor to the diced up fingerling potato, I added the mushroom medley. Again, the star of the plate was Romanesco broccolini. Service was excellent, so no complaints here. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed Serafina. The food was delicious and service was amazing. The ambiance felt like I was back in Italy with all the servers being Italian and a majority of the other guests were Italian as well. A charming Italian restaurant that reminds me of a similar restaurants located in the slim alleyways of Roma. Located on the corner of Broadway and Jones Street near San Francisco's Russian Hill neighborhood. Serafina literally opened a month before the world came crashing down in early 2020 and not only managed to survive that alerting experience, but managed to come out as a real star on the San Francisco dining scene for foodies looking for a small intimate restaurant serving up hearty Italian cuisine. A friend and I were looking for a restaurant to dine to commemorate the first night of San Francisco's Restaurant Week, in which participating restaurant offered a three course pre-fix meal set at a certain price point, in this case 65 dollars, which gives a reason for diners to enjoy a night out in the town supporting a locally owned and operated restaurant, and it gives that restaurant an opportunity to give diners a sample of their menu. Serafina is so named after one of the owners mother's name, in addition to being named after a famous restaurant in Rome, where this same owner got his start at age fourteen making pizzas. The menu at Serafina is broken up into sections such as Antipasti, which cover their appetizers and salads; Pinse, which covers their pizzas made with a crispy focaccia crust; Primi, which covers the gamut of pastas they serve; Secondi, which are entrées focused on protein, and Dolci which of course were their desserts. Of course we came for their pre-fix restaurant week menu, and in the case of Serafina, they had one option of three courses. It included their Antipasto course, which was their Carpaccio di Salmone, which was homemade cured-salmon carpaccio served with lemon, dice green onions, pink peppercorn and generous amounts of olive oil. Their Primo course was their Risotto Cremolato con Radicchio, Fontino e Spek, which was creamy Italian Risotto with radicchio, fontina cheese and spek. For the Secondo course we dined on Pesce Spada ai Ferri, which was their grilled swordfish with organic arugula and cherry tomatoes. To accompany our meal, we both decided to split a half bottle of their 2017 Tenuta di Nozzole Chianti Classico Riserva. My fellow diner and I believed that our first course their Salmon Carpaccio was the best of all of their dishes as it provided a unique dining option for the traditional carpaccio dining meal as the green onions, pink peppercorn and olive oil all combined for a delightful meal with every bite especially when combined with the complimentary bread and olive oil that was place on our table. The next two courses were decent but not as exceptional as our first course, as the risotto was a little too runny with the amount of gravy that came with the entire dish, and the swordfish was solid but not as juicy or flavorful as we felt it could have been no matter how much lemon you managed to squeeze on it. The one plus was that there was a lot of food on our Secondo course, which made it nice for me to be able to take over half of my meal home for dinner. To complete our dinner, we decided to split our dessert course, and although there were many options that intrigued us that we opted for their Profiterole Bianco, which were three homemade cream puffs filled with cream and dark chocolate and drizzled with white chocolate. It was perfect way to end our meal, especially when paired with our final drops of Chianti wine. Overall, our experience was a solid one at Serafina as two out of four courses were exceptional and the other two were decent if at least hearty for the appetite. Each course was delivered in due time, as we would sit there waiting patiently as the restaurant did become swamped with guests after 6 p.m. as we assumed if we could only get reservations via OpenTable at 5:15 p.m. that we would be out of there early, as finding parking in this neighborhood was much easier than expected, but alas since they seemed to have some issues with a lack of waitstaff, it was not to be as it would be a long evening of food and wine, not that we minded. I wouldn't mind returning to actually try one of their signature Pinse and Pasta dishes, as they looked incredible. At Serafina, they have a intimate, I would even say romantic restaurant, located in a neighborhood with only homes surrounding it, serving up rustic homemade Italian cuisine that could easily be shared, may Serafina have a long and fruitful life here in San Francisco. read more

We had a great dinner last night at Serafina before the Rocket Man show. We started with the Burrata (w prosciutto, tomatoes and greens). Delicious and a very generous size. My wife had the halibut and raved about how tender and tasty it was. I had the fettuccine with shrimp and assorted veggies which was also excellent. We shared a nice and very reasonably priced Barbera. The service was excellent and we even got to chat up one of the owners. The location is very charming on top of Russian Hill. read more

Visited Serefina on a Monday evening to celebrate a birthday dinner and had an amazing experience. There were six of us and the restaurant was packed when we arrived. Fortunately, we had a reservation, which I definitely recommend. Once we were seated, the waiter was very attentive yet not overbearing in regards to placing our order. Once we did, the food came out quickly and looked delicious. Bread with olive oil and vinegar is also provided, which is delicious as the bread is made from scratch in house. - burrata con prosciutto e arugula - calamari ripieni - pappardelle al granchio - fregola alle vongole While all the dishes were great, my favorites were the calamari and and pappardelle. The calamari was stuffed with olives, escarole, anchovies, an breadcrumbs and was like nothing I've had before. The pappardelle was very flavorful and included a whole crab leg! We had a great birthday meal here for one of our friends Saturday night. The restaurant is tucked away into the neighborhood, and the parking was challenging at the time. The restaurant itself was small, but the owner managed to help us squeeze eight people at the table for the celebration. (I sat on the main aisle side, and had to keep my elbows out of the way to avoid getting run into). The charcuterie plate was amazing, along with the bread, burrata and calamari. No complaints at all. I had the tortellini which was cooked very well. Seemed to need a bit more spice for my liking, but it was good. Everyone else enjoyed their main. Several people ordered the tiramisu for dessert, which was great. The guest of honor loved the pannacotta, which he ordered for himself after having tried someone else's.
