I would have given them 4 stars if I reviewed this place right after I went there (more than a year ago). But now that I think about it, what I liked most about this place was the bread and the cheese plate with herbs that we ordered as an appetizer. I think I think I have to go again to try the meats because this was actually a business dinner and the lady we were with ordered everything. I think I know now what I like more. Wonderful! Came in today quite randomly with no reservation with a 10 ppl party. We were seated in 5 minutes, drinks ordered within 5 minutes after that, and orders placed within 10 minutes after that. I was really impressed with the staff and the service. Friendly, professional, attentive, and quick. The food was delicious. Our group ordered appetizers, which were large and tasty, the bread that came out was AMAZING (kind of like Indian naan), and a wide variety of entrees. Everything was delicious. We had leftovers only because that bread was SO amazing we over ate it in the beginning. Oh well.. delicious lunch tmorrow :). Great job! read more

One of the best Persian places in town. It's on Westwood Blvd, next to about ten other Persian restaurants, but it really stands out in terms of their bread. They have a clay oven that nobody else has and the bread definitely taste different. Up the street at Shamshiri, the meat might be better, but the bread is really good. The portions are big, like most Persian restaurants, and the entrees are pretty routine. I've had the lamb shank on multiple occasions and it never disappoints. I have been trying lots of Persian restaurants in LA and this is the top one I have eaten at so far. The menu is expansive and delicious. We ordered an appetizer that was several kinds of stew on top of rice (the eggplant and the pomegranate and walnut). Both were amazing-- the eggplant was literally the single best preparation of eggplant I have ever eaten. You don't get a compliment out of Picky E. like that easily. The pomegranate/walnut stew started off like a rich Mexican mole, but by the time you were several bites in, it was nothing that familiar-- a rich mix of the nut and fruit coming through in very distinctive and tasty ways. We split a chicken plate of koobideh (sp?) and grilled chicken. I believe I described the koobideh as a "meat explosion" in your mouth. The grilled chicken was tasty, but how can you compete with a meat explosion? We also split a rice dish that had rose water, pistachios, orange peel, almonds, and saffron it. It was very good, but was not the star of the show (oddly given how much Persian cuisine is into rice). A table near us ordered a rice sampler and I would go that route next time. And, btw, I knew from other reviews that many folks were down on the service. I went expecting bad service and great food. It turns out the service was no problem. Maybe we were early, maybe they got the yelp message, who can say. Also, people complained about the prices, but we ordered and ate family style knowing that each dish would be way to much for a single person (among 4 people, we ordered 2 dishes and an appetizer for the whole table and still had leftovers). When done family style, it was actually much less expensive as a dinner for four than many places. Its a must eat. I will be back for sure. read more

Whenever I come to LA to visit my sister's family, I love to try to get take away from here. I don't get to eat Persian food much, but this place is wonderful. They bake their own flat bread which is delicious. Love the sour cherry rice and the chicken and beef koobideh is just outstanding. Can't wait to come back to LA and eat here again. read more

Their Kabob Barg is sooo goood. It is soft and it melts in your mouth. Also I liked their appetizers. We got a variety of them to try them all and we were not disappointed. They bake their own fresh Taftoon bread which is so good and as traditional as it gets. It does get crowded at times tho. Came here with my girlfriend's Dad, who is Persian, and he said this was his favorite spot. It did not disappoint. The flat bread they bring out pre meal is great. I ordered a mix of different meats and chicken and loved the quality. Rice was cooked to perfection. I followed the lead of my host and added some spices to my rice and this only added to the great flavor of the rice. Wasn't a huge fan of the yogurt drink but I had to try it since the gf's Dad insisted I try it. One of the best Persian food restaurants I've had. read more

THE BEST FOOD I have ever tasted. It is absolutely incredible. Granted, I paid about $20 for lunch, which is a lot. The environment is a bit cold, it has sort of a cafeteria vibe because of the tile and the lighting. If you have the cash to spend on good food, do it at Shaherzad. Good bread and huge portions but inconsistent. The appetizer sampler was a good deal and a flat falafel like chickpea appetizer was especially savory. A friend ordered the lamb and it was fatty and unappetizing. The koobideh kebabs were good with big portions and rice or salad on the side. The fesengen pomegranate stew could have been a little nuttier and more flavorful for example. The portions are good for sharing, but I would prefer if they were smaller and thus priced lower. What really brought it down a star was the gruff attitude of the hostess. Granted it was a weekend night and they were crowded, but she still could have shown just a little more hospitality, or at least not have been so hard to flag down. read more

Parking can be a little tricky but it's never crowded inside. I like the Shirin Polo, rice mixed with sliced vegetables, raisins and lots of pistachios. Yum Yum....and the plate is huge, easily a meal for two or have plenty of leftovers. read more

we ordered ghormeh sabiz and it was way too sour. the kebab dish was okay...chicken was pretty tender the waiter also treated us like kids...and we ended up waiting way too long for our bill. maybe we tried the wrong things on their menu, or maybe we got a bad waiter. will come back someday to try other things read more

Great spot to hit after you do some grocery shopping next door at tochal market! Food is great, although Javan will still be my number 1 :)
