I've been to several Shake Shacks over the years and this was my first time coming to this one yesterday and I had a good experience here! The staff was friendly and ordering was a breeze and the quality was about the same as their other locations. I came in and ordered the limited time Hot Ones burger and cheese fries. I received my food fairly quickly in less than 10 minutes. The cheese fries were delicious and with the Hot Ones sauce to dip in and the Aleppo pepper seasoning, it had a good kick in my mouth of heat. The cheese sauce helped balance out the heat but I enjoyed it. The Hot Ones burger was also quite delicious and there was a good amount of the Hot Ones sauce in the burger so I got a good amount of spice from it and by the end, I was starting to sweat a little. The angus patty was cooked well and not dry and the addition of paperback cheese and the bacon made for a rich burger. Their burgers are smaller than most other places you go to but the quality of the ingredients is what you pay for, and I think it's worth the extra price! To preface this review, I don't really eat on Hollywood Blvd because it's known for being a tourist heavy area with bland, overpriced restaurants. I only came here because I just got out of watching a musical at Pantages Theater late at night and hadn't had dinner. This Shake Shack was very crowded, no doubt many customers there were also coming from Pantages. They had kiosks where we could order from, but it was not user friendly at all. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't letting me check out, so already frustrated, I had to go to the counter and order from there. I've had Shake Shack maybe less than 5 times in my life, but this is the worst Shake Shack I've been to. I'm not sure if other Shake Shacks in Los Angeles do this, but at this location it felt like they really cut corners, and the food is not cheap to begin with. I got one of the lemonades and it was nearly filled to the brim with ice cubes that there was hardly any actual lemonade. The fries were soggy. The burger was kind of small and limited; for being more expensive than In-n-out burger, Shake Shack burger is known for being meatier, but it was not that much better nor was it more filling than In-n-out's. Our first visit here on a busy night just 30 minutes from closing. When we ordered to dine in we were not hassled with "we're closing soon." Instead the server told us to take our time even if the doors are locked. We had burgers - of course. Cooked very well and exceptionally flavorful. My vanilla shake was a good texture and a good size portion. I won't say this is a negative, but upon entry there was a bank of kiosks to place orders. People crammed in there trying to figure out how to use the touch screens. No one ordered at the cashier so we walked up, placed our order in 30 seconds and moved to our seats. Okay, I'll probably get some flack for calling the 'Shroom Burger a burger and saying it hit the spot, but it really did! The portobello mushroom was lightly battered and was crispy. After two and a half years of waiting to see Hamilton down the block-- the result of two different COVID related cancellations of previous tickets-- the fateful night finally arrived, and off to Hollywood we went with three families, including 9 children 14 and under. The plan was to get there early, and enjoy a meal together at Shake Shack. Having eaten at the Crystal Cove/Newport Coast location, I thought I had an idea of the "menu, the venue, the seating..." but had not visited this location. It's noteworthy that much of our experience here was likely not in control of the business, and better attributed to the location. But a review is a review, and it was what it was. First up: parking. It's Hollywood Blvd. and we have three cars carrying 15 people. You just resign yourself to the $25 per car thing to park for dinner and a show. Not Shake Shack's fault. Next: ordering. The stanchioned queue at the door moved fairly quickly, despite the wall menu being low enough to get partially blocked by other patrons in line. And if you know, then you know. Arriving at the cashier, the young fellow taking our order was patient and cordial. He began the transaction by inquiring if we were planning to eat inside, nodding towards the signage indicating indoor patrons need to be fully vaccinated as of November 4, 2021. Also not Shake Shack's fault... and we opted to find a table outside rather than play Not-A-Doctor Barbara Ferrer's Kelloggs Corn Flakes game with young kids for whom we had negative tests in hand (Pantages' requirements) but not vaxes. Next, the food: we ordered a few different burgers, fries, fountain drinks. Not cheap for burgers and fries served on a tray with paper wrappers, but man-- those Hollyweird rents gotta be high. We were given a number on a stick, and went outside to look for seating. Food came out fast, so bonus on that at least. The tables: nothing available on their smallish patio. Again, we had 15 people, so we weren't expecting miracles. Just outside the patio were several additional tables that we sort of pushed together and improvised a place for all of us to eat together. Another "Not Shake Shack's fault" but mildly annoying: our outside table was adjacent to some wooden planter walls, upon which several folks of all walks of life were variably camped out, zoned out, or in two cases, smoking weed like it was their last chance to do so. Yeah I know... legal now and everything... just sometimes -- and I know this is a real STRETCH of courtesy-- maybe read the room that a family of small kids doesn't want to eat in the exhaust of your cheap ass stems n seeds bag? The Shake Shack "security guard" didn't seem to care much, so we tried not to. His job seemed to be primarily guarding the door between the patio and the exit to keep non-customers from entering the restroom queue, so beyond his fence line, I guess we were on our own. As for the food, it was tastier than I'd thought it would be, and smaller than I thought it would be. Fries were particularly good. After a $78 order for five burgers and fries, kids were still hungry. With time to kill before the show, and Mr. Spliff having moved on down the boulevard, the wife went back in for shakes to top off the kids bellies before the show. For whatever reason, the five minute wait for burgers and fries was 20 minutes faster than the wait for shakes. Seriously? You're called "Shake Shack" and it's a half hour wait for three shakes and a cup of frozen custard? The kids ran around or sat around based on age appropriateness, trying to stay out of trouble while they waited. Of course, when the dessert finally arrived it was decadent and thoroughly enjoyed. For just shy of $100 total fast food meal cost for a family of five, it'd better be. I don't know. Tried hard to squeeze a three star review for this business out of this two star experience overall. I've read some reviews and some think In-N-Out Burger is better. Are they serious! They're small, resembling more like a big slider than a true burger, & have the same buns as McDonald's. In terms of flavor, preparation, condiments, & add-ons, I was underwhelmed. The burger just needed more salt in general & was so expensive for what it was. I did not feel very appreciated when I was asked to leave while being profiled for looking the way I was. I was wearing the same hoodie and jeans I was wearing for maybe 2 weeks straight after getting mobbed and robbed dirty in these gritty streets of LA. I've personally never had a Shack Burger, so I decided today would be the day and order 2 Shack Burgers through their Delivery APP. Shake Shack apparently interfaces with UberEats with their private branded app. The delivery wait wasn't that great and took about 40 minutes. What was disappointing is in the bag was a single container of french fries. I didn't even order any French Fries! I was thoroughly disappointed and disgusted on how they can't even get their order right. Unfortunately I guess I will never have the opportunity to even try Shack Burger as this event has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I'm a fan of Shake Shack Long Beach and was expecting the ShackBurger here to taste the same way it did at their Long Beach location. I was surprised to find the Hollywood Blvd. location makes their ShackBurgers saltier. Perhaps it was just the one I had. The salty taste was strongest with the first bite and dissipated after a couple more bites. The burger had perfectly melted cheese and fresh lettuce and tomato. Service here is good and the restaurant is clean. You order at the counter and an employee brings your order to your table. If you are eating indoors, you will be asked for your vaccine card. I think that is a smart and safe practice. If you need to use the bathroom, the code is on the receipt. I literally LOVE Shake Shack and I can't tell you enough of how good it is. Every time I go I always get their Shack Stack. It's basically your typical burger but with a shroom patty which is a portobello mushroom that's filled with mozzarella cheese then battered and deep fried! Each bite you take into the burger you get a nice cheesy cheese pull and who doesn't love cheese?? Love me a good cheese overload. Also liked how the patty is juicy and not drying and the portobello adds a nice umami taste to each bite! Their shakes are also a must get when eating here! A super nice sweet treat to top your meal off, their shakes are thiccy and has new seasonal flavors as well. What can I say about the shake shack that hasn't already been said. I feel like it's really overpriced. But then when I take a bite of that delicious burger, I start to realize that it's worth it. Shake shack is not going anywhere soon. It's always busy and the service is always good. I'm amazed at how they were able to change up the menu and selections. I feel like it's hard for a burger joint to compete and stay relevant, especially in this area. But there's a time and place for everything and shake shack has its time and its place. I feel lucky that every time I've come there's always been some street parking around the corner at a meter. I do know that the area gets pretty busy and that's not always the case, so I feel pretty lucky. I wish I had something to recommend, but I like all of their burgers and their fries equally.
