The process was very safe (regarding COVID 19) and easy with there being a waitlist and only a certain amount of people at a time... receiving a text to let you know its your turn or to show where you are in line. When it got to be our turn we a lot of amazing help from the people that work there and everything exceeded our expectations and went above and beyond while staying in our budget, everything was explained to us and shown to use to get a better understanding and make sure we got exactly what we wanted There were three prominent people who helped us. The first was the person at the table, but (sorry) we forgot her name; she did not seem like a sales person, but did the sizing at the desk... wearing a gray jacket. We were first introduced to Alex who was also helping another customer, which we were okay with- very happy they could take us inside and allow us to look at the items. He brought out the first stone we saw online. The setting took a little bit of work to find, and another person Kim found it. It looked way better than what we saw online! Based on this experience we recommend visiting the store before committing to something online because we were very surprised how good it was (was kind of a back up plan because the other setting was not in stock at that location). From there on out Alex and Kim coordinated to have Kim help us the rest of the way through. She was extremely pleasant to work with and very nice.. answered all of our questions and brought another stone we asked about. It was definitely the one. She answered our questions about how their warranty works too (apparently included wow wee although need to bring it in every 6 months.. we will love to take advantage of that). She also helped us look at other rings for my fiancé since he kind of forgot to think about himself. She sized him and showed a few very good options we were tempted on, but because we didn't do our own research very well in that department we opted to put some more time on that. During this entire process she was also very personable we enjoyed being with her- felt almost like a close friend of many years. We felt very good with all of this. Very comfortable and easy; we also felt no pressure not a quick sales pitch. I was up in the air about whether to get my engagement ring here or through online retailers and because of how helpful Kim was, I felt confident in paying a little more and choosing my ring here. Buying an engagement ring is such a stressful event in itself, let alone having to decide all the details of what to look for in a ring, and making sure it's within price range, not overpaying, etc. My BF and I looked to her as a professional expert and she really met those expectations of being our diamond guide. I have never been to the old location of Shane Co so I can't compare but the new location is very nice and bright with a big selection of jewelry. Upon walking in, there was no one there to greet me. The sign in front said to feel free to browse so I started browsing. I was looking for men's rings, which are all behind the first wall, so that helped me narrow things down. Someone ended up asking me if I needed help, and she was nice but also helping someone else at the same time, which was fine because I needed time to decide still, after I narrowed down a couple pieces I liked. I just didn't feel like the person helping me was very warm and didn't try to make any conversation with me until it was clear I was going to purchase something. The checkout process was smooth and easy. When I got home, we tried on the ring and found it was a tad too big, so I decided to call Shane Co a couple days later to have them order it for me so I could pick up and exchange the ring at one time. They told me they would call me when it came in. It came in super fast, probably 1-2 days after I called. But on the phone, they informed me they could only hold it for 2 days. I felt like that wasn't a very long time for someone who had already paid for a ring - Shane Co is not that close to me and during the weekday, it's difficult for me to have time to head over so I actually ended up taking off work in order to go pick up within their two day timeframe. When I came in the second time, there was no one there to greet me either and I stood in front for awhile waiting to find someone until I realized there was a customer service area I could go to. I had such a great experience working with Katie, Paul, and John. One of my first visits, I worked with John and he did a great job showcasing me their whole collection. He made it so easy to narrow down my choices. He also took great care in educating me on diamonds and what to look for. A week later, my now fiancé coincidently wanted to shop around and get a better idea on what she might be interested in. I urgently had to call in and tell them to not mention that I came in prior. Katie and Paul did a great job at keeping things discrete. I was looking for an engagement ring for my beloved girlfriend and decided to check out the Shane Co. because I thought they were "My Friend in the diamond business" and boy was I wrong!! I went in twice and both times were a major disappointment. Both times I was passed between two sales people who did not offer great customer service. The gentlemen that who ended up helping me the majority of time was unenthusiastic and sometimes flat out rude. One of the annoying things he kept saying was "That we do not make commission here" which is irrelevant and obvious since he did not know how to make a once in the lifetime situation pleasant. Katie was amazing! I walked in a few months ago and was greeted by Kyle Oda, the sales manager who helped me learn about the 4 C's of diamonds. I was looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend and told him not only was I brand new to this but I was clearly only in the stages of shopping and not looking to buy anything and he gave me no pressure at all and took the time to really explain everything to me. Then he introduced me to Katie who took over the interaction and WOW! Katie was absolutely incredible in the way she helped me. Katie explained to me what comes with shopping at Shane Co and what kind of guarantees they offered. I was very open and honest with Katie and told her that other jewelry places had better pricing for similar or even better diamonds. She (and Kyle) were very upfront, transparent and not shy to share that they know for a fact that Shane Co does not offer the lowest prices around but they will provide a level of convenience, service and support that many other places will not. She explained to me that everything is done in house, no need to ship out the ring if I ever need service and no additional cost for warranty (some places charge for warranty!) and that the cleanings would be done in house as well. Most of the places I went to while shopping would tell me they would need to ship out my ring if I need it serviced and would have to wait weeks before its return. Not only was that something I did not really like hearing but the vibe in the other jewelry stores were just off putting. There was one other jewelry store where my gf and I went to and I almost gave my business to because their prices and guarantees were the same if not better than Shane Co but the level of service and overall experience inside was nothing compared to Katie at Shane Co. The other salesperson at the other jeweler didn't even ask me my name, immediately wanted to talk numbers and aggressively offered me to apply for financing, which is not a bad thing to finance a ring but I wanted to pay cash so for her to just assume I was going to finance was a little off putting. The interaction at the other jeweler was so bad that I called Shane Co while inside a private room at the jewelry store and asked to see Katie for an appointment and asked that she act like she's never met me before so my girlfriend would have no idea I had already shopped there. Katie played the part perfectly and even went through the motions off adding me to the system as if she was typing even though it was already there! (lol give her an Oscar for that!!) Katie not only made my gf feel like a valued customer but made her feel like we were talking to a person who cares and who wants to genuinely talk to you and not sell you anything. We arrived and there was no one to greet us or check us in. We waited a few minutes for someone to acknowledge us. We checked in with her and she left to see who we had been assigned to. After a few minutes she came back and said she would be helping us. We were with her around ten minutes, she pulled some items for us and then left. Same thing comes for a few minutes and leaves for 10-15 minutes. We decide on a ring and asked to see the stones. He leaves and comes back to let us know he is now off and someone will come help us. We waited for 15 minutes before someone else came. Once again he would come and go as he was helping another couple. We were there for 2 hours, we did put a ring on my wish list but left without purchasing. At the end I was hungry and very irritated for the lack of respect for our time. In summary, the 1-star rating is a paltry half star that I would award the management staff on-site at Shane Co. in Cupertino, who tried to ameliorate the situation that their home office had placed them in. ***Update*** They have finally offered a full refund. I've raised the review 1 star out of respect for the staff at the Cupertino branch who tried their best. After all the extra effort I have had to go through just to have Shane Co do the right thing, I think it is prudent to have this review so they can hopefully review their protocol to better address a situation such as mine. ***Second Update*** Michelle really went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure all needs were met, with a very understanding and sympathetic attitude. She has definitely somewhat redeemed my experience with Shane Co, and I really appreciate her help in this matter. Short background - I initially bought a ring with my ex-fiance many years ago. Things did not work out, however, and after receiving the ring back, I finally got around to try to resell the ring at the end of 2018. Shane Co would not accept the diamond back, which I understood. They offered me $800 for the wedding band and recommended I try elsewhere. After trying several other locations, no luck at an offer. However, I did get several perplexed looks as the store owners would look at the diamond, back at the Shane Co. appraisal, and then back at the diamond. It wasn't until the 3rd location (name redacted in respect for their privacy) that I was notified that the appraisal Shane Co. had given me on initial purchase of the ring was too high. They showed me a magnified image of the diamond and indeed, there was a large inclusion dead-center of the diamond. Shane Co. had originally given a "slight inclusion - SI-2" rating to the diamond which in their professional opinion was incorrect. They recommended submission of the diamond to The Gemologist Institute of America (GIA) since their professional grading of the diamond would trump the appraisal that Shane Co. had initially set forth. After a short wait, GIA confirmed that Shane Co. had provided me with an incorrect grading of the diamond. I was given a professional opinion that due to the misleading grade Shane Co. had initially provided, they were in fact perpetuating consumer fraud. The definition of consumer fraud is as such: "Consumer fraud refers to an act resulting in...intention to sell or advertisement of any product by misleading the consumer..." With this information, I went to Shane Co. in person to request a refund. I felt it fair to first present all relevant information prior to making a judgment or taking legal action. Once there, I spoke with several people including Michelle (who definitely tried her best) to ameliorate the situation. Her offer up front to buy back the diamond was approximately 50% of the refund I was asking for. No one reassesed the diamond on this trip - though they did compare the GIA grading versus the Shane Co. appraisal. I was told that the "home office" was unlikely to provide a refund (based on several reasons I won't get into due to wordiness of this review). Michelle rightfully sent the information to the home office. I never heard back. I reached out several times, and was informed that the home office had "quickly assessed the situation" and were unlikely to provide a refund. I never actually spoke with anyone from the home office. I never received a call, though I was promised one several times, and had to make several calls to get any information. At this point, I was recommended to write a demand letter with all relevant documentation and allow Shane Co 2 weeks to comply prior to taking them to small claims court. I heard back approximately 3 days following reception of the letter at the Cupertino branch. After clarifying several aspects of the demand letter and discussing logistics, I was told that the home office was still reviewing things. I have nothing but nice memories from when I bought the ring, but this recent situation that Shane co has put me through has erased all of that. I am not one to harp on a business nor apply excess amounts of ire - I think that is ineffective. However, I will not do business again with Shane Co. In addition, my family, still based in Cupertino, and their wide net of local friends (they have been living in Cupertino 30 years) will not do business with Shane Co.
