Went back to see if their c/s had improved after nearly two years. It hasn't. Last time Mgr wouldn't give me and my one other guest free tea for having to wait a long time for our food. Excuse...short on staff. This time we (two of us) had to wait a long time for our server to place our drink order, then long time to place the main order, then long time to bring our bill. I had to go to the front where she was on calculator machine working on several bills. We had two fish plates ($7.99), two waters and fried mushrooms ($6.99), two to-go-boxes ($.50). Our bill came out to $25.35 including tax, but I was given $9.00 and change back. They got me for $5.00. Actually my server got me...she was the cashier too. A five star dive! Best and biggest jumbo shrimp ever!!! Everything made from scratch, I wish I could review all the other food they offer, but I cannot seem to go there and not order the jumbo shrimp plate it's too damn good! Been coming here since 2007 my wife introduced me to it and we make it a point to return from time to time. I cannot bring myself to eat seafood from anywhere else. I love this place and have been coming here since I was little. My parents have, since before I was born. The shrimp and sauces have always been consistent and I think the improvements of the new ownership have really been amazing. Went to Sherry's on a recommendation from a coworker. Funky little place close to downtown. Reminds me of a dive from the 1970's (Not a bad thing). I ordered the Ribeye and jumbo shrimp and my better half ordered the jumbo shrimp. Steak was cooked exactly as I ordered it and the shrimp were perfect. I have been here on multiple occasions. I have tried something new every time and am never disappointed. Their chicken fried stead is huge and very good. They also have a buffalo chicken sandwich on Texas toast that was the best I have ever had. Now if you want a burger this place does not slack on their burgers. Considering all the options to have here I never thought I would have such a well made and delicious burger. Like I said in my check-in, they just reopened today, May 1. Looks like it will have a new name as the staff are wearing t-shirts that say "Sherry's Texan". The food was just as good as before. I had the seafood platter. The shrimp were especially good fresh tasting. It was a bit hectic and tea refills didn't happen quickly, hence four stars. They now serve breakfast seven days a week, starting at 6:00 am. That's new, I think. The cashier stated that they didn't expect so much business on their first day open. It was crowded. The taste is subpar. I ordered the Fishermans Platter... First gripe is the quality of the fried oysters. They were mushy like they had been frozen. Then the cocktail shrimp... Lol this is a huge bust. Clearly they got a bag of mini shrimp from Walmart. They put a few in a condiment cup. The fish was ok at best. The onion rings are disgusting. The stuffed crab is ultra disgusting. The best part about my plate was the toast...mmmm mmmm mmmm was that some good toast.... Says no one ever. I was pretty skeptical when we walked into this place. I felt like I took a trip back to 1972, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, cause I love divey places. This is defiantly a fried seafood place, but they will grill it as well....bonus! The service was great, the place is clean, and the food is pretty good. The jumbo shrimp were grilled perfectly, as was the fish. The mashed potatoes weren't the best, but I was trying to be a bit healthy. I've passed this place more times than I could count and because of the signage, never realized that they serve one AWESOME breakfast! It says Seafood on the front so I always thought it was a lunch/dinner place when in fact it's got some amazing down home cooking at the most spectacular prices. The stand out for me is definitely the huge, homemade biscuits. Order that with their signature sausage gravy and it's so much that alone fills me up. Not to mention that it's just as good as my Southern grandma's biscuits & gravy (and you know old Southern ladies are some mean cooks)! I've been here a few times already and have not been disappointed. The pancakes are big and fluffy. The standard 2 egg breakfast plate with a side of their super crunchy and delicious bacon is more than ample and their huevos rancheros rival that of the Mexican food places in the area. Service is always great, prompt and friendly. If you go during the week parking is easy to find but the weekends especially after 9 gets a little crowded. I really miss the old Texan Seafood Restaurant. This place still has a lot to work on, and it doesn't help they only have ONE cook to work all day either. My husband and I have went to both lunch and dinner and we were not impressed. My hubby had the huevos rancheros and he said his food was extremely bland in flavor. Adding his own salt didn't help much. I had their pancakes and they were pretty darn dry. Dinner was just a few days ago and we both had the shrimp basket. The shrimp tasted like it was heavily cooked in oil that we both kept burping it up once we left. If they add another cook, I think the menu will improve. read more
