I found this place during our stay at The Greens Hotel. It's such a hidden gem and well worth dropping in. The decor is so rustic and inviting. The motorcycle furnishings and auto theme gives it a nice touch as well. Dolly was a joy and provided excellent customer service. She really knows her stuff and was great at making suggestions and answering our questions. In the morning time, my husband and I had coffee: the Mexican Mocha and the Toasted Coconut Almond Mocha...both very tasty although I enjoyed the Toasted Mocha best. We returned later in the evening and enjoyed the best adult grilled cheese we've ever tasted. My husband and I both had variations of the Garden Highway, both with no eggs and on wheat bread. He opted to add Smoked Cheddar and spinach and I added garlic jack and spinach to my sandwich. The Long Beach Lemonade is a genius mixture of goody goodness. We can't wait to return! read more

What an impressive menu.. the sandwiches were fab. I got Da Philly, and my partner had the French Connection. My drink was friggin divine: a specialty for mother's day, Miss Mocha. tuxedo mocha with a strawberry cheesecake foam. He had a flat white which was perfect to counter the sweetness. Shift is my go-to! They have great coffee, INCREDIBLE grilled cheese, and wonderful service. It is really nice having a delicious and local coffee shop nearby. Before COVID, Shift was where I would spend hours studying and I always recommended it as our study group meet up. The atmosphere was always friendly and inviting - plus they have some really comfy chairs. Now that we can't sit and study in their shop, I try to pick up coffee or a grilled cheese a few times a month. They really put in a lot of effort to make you feel appreciated as a customer and I am always grateful for that. read more

I ordered the smokin' pig sandwich and got it as a meal with the tomato soup and chips. It was good and delicious. Lots of options to choose from, it was hard to decide. Best kept secret in the neighborhood of Del Paso Blvd. Come for some cozy grilled cheese tomato soup sandwiches, live music and muscle bike vibes. This place not just for coffee, but also the history. I got to meet the owner and he said he built this place for his love for motorbikes. Sip coffee with every sip taking you back to the rock ages of leather jackets and 80s music. Also a great venue for open mic night, birthday celebration and anniversaries. Very impressed with Shift Coffee. We saw this spot after visiting Southpaw and booked marked it for our next coffee excursion. This is far from the typical coffee joint. First, their drink menu is expansive with a number of different coffees, lattes, teas, etc. The O.D.Bee, Bugatti Breve, and Vietnamese Nitro were all delicious. Second, the grilled cheese is bomb. We only tried the Hot as Hell which was delicious. Our bread was a tiny bit over-seasoned, but was still incredibly good. Next time we go I might ask for non-seasoned bread. Del Paso is a bit out of the way for us, but will happily start making the 10 minute drive on weekends for Shift. Really a gem of a spot. read more

Great decor, and ambience. This could be a really nice place to sit and visit with a friend or get some work done. The day I was there they had no pastries, so that was a disappointment. And when I asked for toasted bread with cheese, I expected two slices of bread with cheese in the center, however what I got was one slice of cheese and one slice of bread. This made for a very greasy, messy, difficult to eat, and access snack. All things considered, I would give it another try, as this was their first week under new ownership. read more

I ordered the pistachio mocha - I wasn't sure what to expect, but it tasted very good! The pistachio added an interesting flavor element, and was something a bit out of the norm for me. First off, they serve Moschetti coffee so that's a big plus for me. Got a Vietnamese nitro coffee and they somehow maintained the foamy nitro texture even with the condensed milk. I got the M.O.S.T. grilled cheese and it was divine. Veggies can be troublesome because they release liquid when they cook and create steam. But, nope, they achieved the proper textures of tender veggies, gooey cheese, crunchy, buttery crust and, as a bonus, an ample, crispy cheese skirt. Because each sandwich "region" is unique, you don't just eat it, you explore it. It's deceptively "fast food" that makes you slow down and savor. No photos. Go get your own. The only reason why I'm giving it four starts is because they close the grill early before actually closing the store. Omg the lavender ice latte has the perfect amount of lavender to get that great floral taste and the coffee nice and creamy. Really appreciate when you get a floral drink that does not taste artificial. The food is also amazing. My kids and I ordered: Da Philly which was so juicy & flavorful definitely cheesy. The french bread was toasted just right. The Mardi Gras had delicious / not dry grilled chicken with the habanero jack & cheddar the touch of heat with the cheese was amazing. Since my youngest is not a big cheese fan the third sandwich we got was the classic (build your own) with Brisket & mild cheddar (you have to have a cheese...since grilled cheese is in their name) he loved it not too cheesy, juicy meat and perfectly toasted sourdough. Customer service was good, I mean helpful and cordial just not the super warm bubbly type, which is fine when you serve amazing drinks & sandwiches.
