Been coming here for years. Although I haven't been here for a couple of years until recently. I love this place. If you want duck, this is the place to go. One of the few places around that does duck right. This time around, we ordered two different types of duck. The first order was the original duck that you dip with the sauce that they give you. You mix the sauce with lettuce, onions, and yellow hot sauce. Man does it compliment the duck really well. The duck is nice and tender with tons of flavor. The second dish, my favorite its the smoked duck. I love this dish. Use to eat it all the time in Korea. Would go to the country just to eat smoked duck. So when I found out that Shik Do Rak has smoked duck, I had to go back and check it out. How was it? Very good. Haven't had smoked duck in a restaurant in California ever until recently. It packs tons of flavor and you can really taste the smokiness in each bite. There wasn't too many side dishes but the ones that come out were really good. I do not remember this place being this good but it was. And the service for a Korean place is pretty good. Overall a great experience with great food and service. As KBBQ goes, this isn't my favorite location, but it's conveniently located and has all the things that I like to complement my KBBQ (i.e. those sweet radish rounds, duk bosam, that awesome hot sauce... etc). The service is so-so, and the prices are a bit more than what you'd pay going down to K Town (with fewer side dishes). Meh... Shik Do Rak is the ultimate Korean BBQ joint in my opinion. As soon as you step in the restaurant, everything about it feels authentic. They don't try to "Americanize" it one bit. Hubby and I love this place. The waitresses are always on point, constantly checking up on us and making sure that nothing gets burned. Food comes out super fast. We love the standard onions and mushrooms on top of the grill that goes along with the meat. We like to grill the garlic and jalapeños too. Then pile it all on the rice paper and the complimentary salad and add the spicy sauce. Then take one giant, delicious bite! read more

Korean bbq rocks and shik do rak is the beatles of K bbq.The beef here is of very high quality.It's not all you can eat,so the quality of the meat is so much better than other places.The bulgogi here is just pieces of meat from heaven.sigh... Get some Hite or OB beer with your BBQ,it really tastes better that way.Food always tastes better when you're wasted.The side dishes are fresh and they keep on coming.They also give you this soup on the side. My favorite Korean BBQ in the Valley. We went for a special occasion, and were blown away by the quality of the food, the enormous quantity and the attentive and efficient service of the waitresses. We ordered chicken and beef BBQ for two, which came with a miso type of soup and a drink. We also ordered a bowl of mixed seafood noodle soup that we were told could feed 2 or 3 people. By the time all of our food arrived, we could have easily fed six people. The meat is cooked by the waitress and snipped into bite-sized pieces directly onto your plate, and the soup was ladeled for us from the enormous bowl being heated in the middle of the table where the BBQ was. Everything was very, very fresh. Always, always, wear something that you don't care will smell like cooked meat when going to a Korean BBQ. And your hair will smell too, by the time you're done. After my hubs and I returned from Moorea, my parents were nice enough to pick us up and take us to lunch at SDR. You can never be disappointed by Korean BBQ restaurant with the speediness of the service and what I appreciate a lot more, ever since I've experienced what the Korean restaurants in Michigan charge and offer, is the amount of food you get for what you pay. SDR is located next to a car wash on the corner of Reseda and Devonshire st. and conveniently across the Galleria Market and is only open for lunch and dinner. My parents were a little shocked at how much the prices went up and was told that since the cost of meat has gone up over the past months, they had to raise the prices. The quantity of the meat seemed to have gotten smaller with the price change and the quality as well. We ordered one of the combos that came with chadol-beef brisket and dae-ji bulgogi-spicy marinated pork, that also comes with doenjang chiggae -soybean paste soup and rice. We also ordered yukgaejang- spicy beef soup and split that four ways. I would say the whole meal was more than enough for the four of us. Once your seated, the waitresses will bring you ice water or hot water and soon after, banchan and two different types of dipping sauce for the meats. One is a sesame oil base with salt and pepper the other one is a soybean paste base. And if you ever need refills on the banchan or sauces, they are quick to get you more. I would definitely come back and stick with the chadol-a couple orders of it and the yukgaejang...which is a perfect soup to have on a cold day or night! read more

My family and I went to Shik Do Rak on Sunday, around noon -- they were at 80% capacity. Servers seemed rushed and busy, but that might just be the korean mentality -- get everything done quickly as possible, haha. +1 star for serving their lunch menu everyday (just not on holidays) +1 star for ample parking +1 star for great portions + tasty dishes + side dishes +1 star for not charging us 18% gratuity for our 6 adult + 2 children party Is it the best korean food in southern california? Great Korean barbecue place in Northridge that touts its dduk bo ssam, and with good reason. I've been here a few times with family and it's been consistently excellent. The meat is delicious and comes in generous portions with plenty of accompaniments. I like to dip a big piece of meat (galbi, bulgogi, chadoolbaegi, chicken bulgogi...everything I've tried is good!) in the spicy daenjang bean paste and roll it up in a sheet of dduk bo ssam with a little bit of kimchi...yum. The bori bibimbap is also really good - it tastes healthy but homey and satisfying, too. The service is great, no complaints. It's the kind of service that you don't really notice because it's prompt but not fawning. The crowd is generally 90-100% Korean, with a lot of families. The space is open and friendly, and it really is great for a fun, low-key family dinner with a wide spread of delicious Korean food. It's the kind of place you wish there were a lot more of, and that you end up going to a lot because sadly, there really aren't. read more

Came here for dinner on a weeknight, and the place was actually pretty busy. We were in a group of 10 so we had to split into 2 tables. The place is pretty small. After you sit down, they start serving you the side dishes. I really liked the tofu and seaweed, and the salad was pretty good too. I ordered the tofu soup with beef and seafood, and it came out pretty good. I ordered it at a level spiciness of medium and it was not spicy at all, but it was still flavorful. It came with plenty of small pieces of beef, but not a lot of seafood. The clams and shrimp were tiny too. I didn't eat the Korean BBQ here, but my bf said that it was good but a little on the pricey side. I think they only give you a set amount of meat, so it's not AYCE (still seemed like more than enough to get full off of though). Service was okay. The waitresses brought out our food pretty fast and stopped by once in awhile to help the girls at my table with their kbbq. Since it's a small restaurant, I felt pretty cramped. I didn't really like it when the busboy was cleaning the tables behind us and throwing all the plates/bowls onto his cart. I was afraid some nasty leftover food was going to fly onto me. I used to frequent the Shik Do Rak in LA years ago when I was in elementary school. Now that AYCE KBBQ reigns supreme, they've all pretty much shut down besides this one and one in Garden Grove. For some reason, my parents wanted to try it again recently and I'm pretty glad we did. We ordered the B3 combo with brisket, short rib (jumulluk), pork belly, soy bean paste stew, rice paper, and a soju. I thought the brisket was whatever. It was sliced a little too small and thinly for my taste so it would cook a little too quickly and required a lot of watching. The short rib was where it was at though. It was really fresh and juicy but still melt in your mouth. Pork belly was also good but nothing special. The portions might seem average but the 3 of us were "so stuffed we kind of want to throw up" full. The rice paper makes everything so much better. Shik Do Rak prides itself on its rice paper so it's always soft, perhaps a little warm, and freshly made unlike those places unlike some KBBQ restaurants where you have piles with stale corners and edges. The ladies serving are also super nice, quick, and really on top of things. The only thing I was kind of meh about was that instead of the regular soy sauce brisket sauce, you get some sort of spicy sauce instead. It was okay. Overall, definitely a good KBBQ choice in the valley. You can only eat AYCE for so long before you decide that you're too old and fat for it. read more

The food quality is higher than most spots and the amount of kimchi is amazing . They do rush you when they are busy which makes sense but the customer service is there due to the fact all the servers help each other out . Watch out!! this place charges you autometic 18% tip on your bill if you have more than 4 people in your group. If you don't pay attention, you will double tip them on terrible service. when I got the bill, I gave them my credit card without reading it through, and then I thought bill was too high for 4 people simple lunch at over $100. so I ask them to show me the bill again. I then found out they included the 18% tip already. I almost put additional $20 for the tip, if I did not ask them about it. They were not voulunteering to tell me it was already included. read more

Best brisket I've ever had. Love their yellow corvina and their soups. Great sides and they have the rice wraps. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the service during lunch is non existent. They seat you promptly and then take your order and that's about it. They never check on you, when you need something you have to get up and go find someone or you have to wave someone down. One time I went during lunch and I didn't get water until we were in the middle of eating. Every time I come for lunch I have high hopes that this time they'll be attentive but no.. Service here was soooo slow last time I went. it took 20 minutes to seat us and they weren't full... It also took forever to get a refill of water even though the server walked by with a pitcher at least three times... The brisket was bland and the marinated meats weren't much better. I like it better than others for the STAND OUT unique item RICE PAPER they offer as one of their side dishes. I've made the mistake of going elsewhere expecting rice paper (it creates a wonderful consistency with all the other flavor combinations going on with the meat and side dishes... SOLD yet!?) Went yesterday for late lunch. It's $9.99 for Bulgogi with potato onion soup, that's simple but so delicious and all the traditional side dishes. A New one to me is the black beans, nice flavor! I'm a sucker for this fish cake item I pronounce oh-dang. I ate all my food (obviously) and felt so satisfied for $13 tax & tip. The waitresses are friendly and refill side dishes promptly as needed, also never had to ask for water. We came here because there was a hour wait at Gen kbbq across the street and we were starving. We got seated in less than 10 minutes for a party of 4. We quickly realized that this was not a all-you-can-eat kbbq, but oh well. The plates range in price from $50 - $200 per plate, but come with a reasonable amount of meat for the price. We got the usual brisket, bulgogi, and steak and it was amazing. The mean quality is leagues above any ayce place. The steak was as wide as a thumb and is thick enough to be cooked rare or medium. Usually the meat is so thin that it cant be anything but well done. We also ordered a plate of chicken which was cooked in the kitchen and it was so good. Doing it yourself it great and all, but they have more spices and sauces in the back which they use to cook. Last this is very small but important. This is the first time we were given rice paper in a kbbq restaurant. Usually we have to ask for it. read more

This is the shik do rak we go to everytime we visit my folks. It is a smaller "L" shaped restaurant in the interior (there is seating for reserved in another section beyond the bathrooms I think, not sure) so the seating is a bit cramped and the seating at the tables themselves are a bit cramped as well. The restaurant always seems to be a bit dark inside. Not a lot of light. It can use some remodeling or reorganizing of the interior. However, the food is decent and the service is good. It is comparable to any other shik do rak in the OC area but not as good as the Los Angeles one, but the prices and items given is worth a shot to try out if you are in the area and are curious. It is a serviceable mid-tier korean bbq with decent service and decent cleanliness. Parking is plentiful and access to this restaurant is perfect from the two major streets Devonshire and Reseda. read more

Fish cake, potato, kimchi, and 4 others... and they come endlessly, just ask your server for more. The B1 is ours, pork belly and thinly sliced beef $29.99.The cooking starts with onions and mushroom and the yumminess begins! I like to wrap my meat in rice paper, topped off with slices of garlic and jalapeño, smothered in soy bean paste... You can ask your server for this..(I call it the thing with jalapeño and garlic, to the server, since I don't know what it's called.. ) You come here for the FOOD, not so much for the service, unless you like all your meat dumped into the grill at once, cut for you, mixed for you and the bill placed on your table before you can even take your second bite kind of person. They put us in a corner spot next to the bathroom and didn't even give us a menu or water. However they served the people who came in later than us first (menu, water, food, etc). After getting a TERRIBLE service we decided to give them a little tip, they came back and asked us where we were raised and started coming at us extremely rudely. Since Covid, I was craving KBBQ and ordered to go from Shik Do. For 3 orders of Soontofu (this was good but for $13 ea, overpriced!), an order of brisket (mostly onions for $24), and an order of pork belly (overcooked and barely any serving for $24) = I will not come back. I will learn to make Soontofu on my own and KBBQ is easy to make the marinade. Can't wait for GEN AYCE KBBQ to reopen. read more

I come here pretty often and food is pretty legit for Korean BBQ, esp in the valley. And...it's not all you can eat, but the price is very affordable especially with you come with a group of people. During dinner times, it gets quite packed, so expect to wait 30-45minutes, but around lunch time, it's pretty empty, which is the best time :) If you cant speak Korean, they speak broken english, so it's fine. My initial thoughts were that Shik Do Rak was easy to spot on the NE corner of Devonshire and Reseda. I found it relatively easy to find parking as well. However, after I was seated, things began to fall apart. I placed my food order. To the right of me, I noticed that all the ban chan dishes were already prepared and sitting on a table. However, I did not understand why the waitresses took their sweet time to bring them out considering it was right next to me. Also, I didn't like the fact that they just left the dishes out like that leaving them exposed to contaminants. When they finally brought it out, I was not very impressed by those dishes. My main courses came out including some Galbi and Naeng Myun. The Naeng Myun by itself would have costed around $6.79 according to the menu. I bought the combination which came out to $12.99 for both items. I felt as though the Galbi was a tease because they only brought out 6 pieces of meat. The deal that felt like a steal was not quite the bargain I was expecting. I thought the Galbi and the Naeng Myun were pretty good regardless. Can't believe I've never been here before until a friend took me here! I live right by it and I've been missing out this whole time! I'd say one of the best Korean Restaurants in the Valley, BUT it isn't AYCE. I LOVE their Bibimbap, Soon Tofu, and Bulgogi!! Just be careful because it is HOT!! The Bibimbap and Soon Tofu stay very hot for a while because it's in that cast iron bowl. Great flavors in the Tofu and it is so filling...all their dishes are! It is also very reasonably priced. This is the best Korean bbq joint in the valley. This is really 3.5 but since it's the best the Valley has to offer...it gets an extra .5. I call it the Valley curve.
