As always Shiki Sushi delivers, but it's best when Risky their superstar server takes care of your table. Food was amazing c every dish and drink perfectly crafted and delivered on time. All of our premium sushi and rolls were perfectly made and its care and knowledge. Amazing flavors and ambience is perfection with the ambience music.

The tip calculator on the terminal is set up to be deceptive. FIX IT
    Kevin N.

The percentage tip calculator on the checkout tablet is deceiving. The "20%" tip was really a 28% tip. Apparently the 20% is calculated from the pre-discount subtotal plus tax overall total. This is NOT a server issue, but a manager one. Please fix this. The fish used on the rolls is mediocre at best. 3 stars for food quality and I won't even remove one for the deceptive payment terminal.

Always a great experience here! Rizky is hands down one of the best servers. He's been here for as long as I can remember, and every time I come in he makes me laugh and makes the whole dining experience that much better. He's friendly, attentive, and genuinely makes you feel welcome. The food is always excellent, especially the sushi--fresh, delicious, and consistently on point. Great food is one thing, but having someone like Rizky take care of you is what keeps you coming back. Definitely deserves recognition for the amazing service he provides year after year. Highly recommend!

If any of you follow my reviews; you are no stranger to the fact that my ex-boyfriend and I have been on an all- important life quest to find our 'regular sushi spot'. You would think that with the endless plethora of sushi options in Los Angeles - this would be easy and that we would probably find a few new favorite eateries! Well, lo and behold, that isn't the case. Maybe we are picky but we haven't been able to find the Great Bambino of Sushi. The Muhammed Ali of raw fish cuisine. The Ghandi of hand rolls. The Beethoven of cold fish. Until now! Ladies and gents, we have discovered the gold medal winner of the coveted 'regular' space holder: Shiki Sushi in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley! Shiki Sushi is easy to miss as it is nestled in the very far back corner of a strip plaza near the Ventura/Coldwater Canyon intersection and is overshadowed by the new Sportsmen Lodge shopping complex. In fact, I happened to get lucky and see signage as we drove past and we decided to blindly pull into the plaza being so devoted to our cause to find our regular sushi spot. Shiki Sushi maintains its air of mystery externally looking sleepy but inviting at the same time; revealing a warm, dimly lit restaurant with two dining sections plus a sushi bar with warm wooden ambiance, retro Japanese decore accents and artwork galore. Shiki Sushi is surprisingly mid-grade elegant being a step up from casual. The vibe is vibing at Shiki Sushi! We were already feeling good about Shiki Sushi at this point which got bumped up some more when handed the menus that displayed beautifully plated sushi options with unique flavor/ingredient combinations. Plus, the tableside ginger and wasabi is supplemented by bean sprouts with some sort of seasoned topping. Oh dang, Shiki Sushi! Elevating with small details! Again, things were looking finnneee at Shiki Sushi! But the test isn't over just yet so failure is still a possibility. For our sushi feast, we ordered the Kanpachi Carpaccio (6 pieces amber jack topped with truffle paste, shiso and ponzu - $22.95), Kimi Sashimi bowl (15 pieces chef's choice - $46.95), Ex Girlfriend roll (tuna, crabmeat wrapped in soy paper topped with tuna, salmon and yellowtail with soy mustard dressing) and Maiko Roll (shrimp tempura, crabmeat, avocado, cucumber topped with seared salmon, crunch and spicy mayo - $17.95). We were absolutely floored by the speed of delivery to the plates to our tables without sacrificing the beautiful, artful plating that the menu suggested. The feeling of thrill was evident already but then we actually tasted the dishes... and whoa nelly! Shiki Sushi is amazing! Everything is bright, refreshing and perfectly balanced with top-quality fish. I can not stress enough the excellence at Shiki Sushi! My favorite was the Kanpachi Carpaccio with its truffle flavor and a vinaigrette I could drink: upscale at an affordable price. Based on the amazing ambiance, delicious food and fast service; we knew we found it! The winner of the search for our 'regular sushi spot'! But we weren't done just yet. We wanted to preserve the scientific method and test Shiki Sushi again a week later on a busy Friday night to check if really is fast and perfect or if it was a fluke visit. Although noticeably busier in attendance, the ambiance was still ideal with pleasant customer service. During this return visit test, we ordered Truffle Albacore Sashimi for my truffle obsession (6 pieces albacore sashimi served with truffle paste, truffle oil and soy mustard dressing - $22.95), Eel unagi sushi ($3.75), seaweed &cucumber salad ($8.95) and Raku Sushi (6 pieces chef's choice and California Roll). Shiki Sushi passed Round two, phase one of the test with the sushi once again arriving mega fast despite the busy Friday night clientele! Wowzas! The flavors and quality were once again on top with the eel being some of the best eel I've had, the Seaweed and Cucumber salad being exceptionally pickled and refreshing and my Truffle Albacore Sashimi being my favorite with the combination of the truffle and soy mustard (I really am a sucker for truffle!). Folks, there is no denying it: after two rounds Shiki Sushi is the winner of the coveted 'regular sushi spot' position. Shiki Sushi is the Zeus of sushi with restaurant esthetics, quality, speed, customer service, flavor and quality. The search for a regular sushi spot is closed. My boyfriend may now be an ex and no longer in the picture but Shiki Sushi is my new obsession and here to stay!

This place had great ratings and I found out about it through an LA sushi rec Instagram reel, but it was really not as great as expected... this is not an authentic sushi restaurant (they offer other cuisine styles as well), and though they have a variety of choices, the quality and flavor were definitely lacking. They have lunch specials that were okay, but I wouldn't come back.

I've been to Shiki Sushi several times over the years, and after a long break I finally came back. I have to admit, this just isn't my preferred style of sushi--but that's more about my taste than the restaurant itself. If you're someone who enjoys traditional, high-quality nigiri and sashimi, this probably won't be your go-to spot. Shiki is all about comfort sushi: big rolls loaded with imitation crab, creamy sauces, baked toppings, and bold flavors. It's rich, indulgent, and definitely on the heavier side. That said, when you're absolutely starving and just want something satisfying that hits the spot, Shiki delivers. The menu is huge with endless options, portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Every time I've come here I've ended up ordering specialty rolls instead of actual sushi because that's really what this restaurant excels at. I also have to admit... baked rolls are one of my guilty pleasures. A lot of higher-end sushi restaurants don't even serve them because they're more of a comfort dish than traditional sushi, so Shiki scratches that itch perfectly. The service was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and quick, which always makes the experience better. Will I be back? Probably not anytime soon, simply because I usually crave a more traditional sushi experience. But compared to other restaurants in this style and price range, Shiki does an excellent job. If you're looking for filling, flavorful specialty rolls with great value, this is an easy 5-star spot.

Edamame.. They only had one size..

Truly one of the BEST Sushi in town. Isn't Sushi a beautiful food? Whether it's a hand roll or cut roll. I think it's also sexy. In my opinion and the opinions of so many it truly is. This hidden gem is tucked in all the way in the back of a shopping center. Walked in on Saturday 5/16 around 3pm and got a nice greeting from Rizky R. Waited for about 5 minutes for my friend to arrive and we were both seated the minute she walked in. The restaurant has so much history and is very pretty in it's own way. Nice art work all around. A Sushi bar, and it was quiet when we were there. They really have a lot of choices to choose from their extensive menu. We ordered from their Combination standard size menu. Spicy Garlic Edamame, 1 Blazing Sunset Roll, and a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box that you get to choose 3 items: we went with Spicy Tuna Roll, Fried Beef Gyoza, and the Chicken Teriyaki itself. Everything tasted very fresh & delicious!! Edamame could have used just a bit more garlic. The highlight of our meal was the ( 4) piece Beef Gyoza. It was so flavorful and crisp on the outside. Another highlight was me teaching my friend to eat with chopsticks. She was a good student and a quick learner. I wanted to take a picture of her, but she refused. Maybe next time. Restaurant was super clean including their 2 gender neutral restrooms. I have been here so many times way before the Yelp years. It never disappoints. The only thing that was different was that they tore down their indoor patio and is just an empty space now. Thank you Shiki Sushi, management, and the other employees who gave our server a hand. Daniel, Jinie, Dream & Bernando. All great servers. Team work makes a dream work!! Plenty of parking spaces.

I honestly can't believe I'm only now leaving a review for Shiki Sushi after coming here regularly for so long. This is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in Los Angeles. We absolutely love this place and keep coming back again and again, whether it's for a special occasion or just because we want great food at reasonable prices. Everything here is so delicious. The sushi and rolls are amazing, the fish is always incredibly fresh and high quality, and their hot dishes are so underrated too. The miso soup is an absolute must every single time we come, I love it! At this point all the servers recognize us, and the staff is honestly one of the reasons we love this place so much. Everyone is endlessly friendly, welcoming, professional, and FAST. Even when they're busy, everything runs smoothly. The restaurant is always very clean, the atmosphere is comfortable and cozy, and the overall experience is consistently excellent. Shiki Sushi will always be one of our favorite spots in LA.

Shiki Sushi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the valley. When I was working at Nbcuniversal my boss (RIP) would always bring me here for lunch or a bite to eat after work. I love the ambiance and overall appeal of this place. The service is always top notch and the waiters and sushi chef's are always very nice and pleasant. Years ago, when I would come with my boss, we would always sit at the sushi bar to hang out with his friend who was one of the chefs. So last week, i decided to recommended this place to my coworkers for a work lunch and everything was just as I had remembered. I raved about this place to my coworkers and Shiki did not disappoint. The food was amazing! The fish was fresh, the bento box was probably the biggest bento box I have ever seen, and it was delicious! If you're in studio city, stop by for their bento lunch special. I promise you, you'll leave satisfied! Thank me later! OOOOO 5 out of 5 Afros

Sushi Sunday up in here. The vibe is chill, the service is good and the food is great. Had a family lunch date having a grand time. The rolls, sushi, appetizers are all good. The edamame, shishito peppers and green beans are tasty. Salmon sashimi and the spicy tuna (whew) are delicious. The Volcano Roll is my favorite. The parking is a shared strip mall lot, gets crowded in the evening, especially on the weekends

Came here with my dad for lunch and ordered the lunch special which for the price is a fantastic deal. I opted for spicy tuna sushi roll and enjoyed the miso soup, tempura, and salad that came alongside this! I would definitely come back for lunch on the price alone and I thought the sushi was fairly fresh tasting. There's a huge parking lot here and we didn't need a reservation on a weekend.

Sadly, this takeout salmon roll was virtually inedible

This is the second time in a row I placed a takeout order and received very cheap salmon collar in my salmon roll. This white film means they are cutting way too close to the bone and passing it off to people who aren't dining in - probably to save a buck. Which means they are not trustworthy. I've dined at Shiki a handful of times and have actually found it very good. But it frustrates me to no end when a restaurant cheaps out by giving delivery/take-out customers lower quality food because they know they can't complain. I will never order from Shiki again. $11 for a salmon roll that was worse quality than Whole Foods is offensive.

Shiki Sushi Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Shiki Sushi

Do you still do variety served on a sushi boat?

    Yes they do

Do they have gluten free options on the menu? Do they have HF soy sauce or Tamari?

Not on the menu but they do have hf soy & tamari. They were kind of annoyed with the whole celiac scenario when we tried it. Iroha down the street bent over backwards to assure my partner her meal would be gluten free w/o cross contamination.

Do you need to show you're vaccinated?

no! we walked in and got a reservation and nobody asked for any proof of a vaccine

Is the crabmeat imitation or real?

    I believe they have both.

Are you guys doing outdoor seating?

Hello Nessa G. Thank you for having interest of us! I am sadly to say that we are not available…

Does this place still have a happy hour? If so, hours/days available?

    Yes...

Does anyone know where they get the bean sprouts from? Please someone help me out or does anyone know what their called?????? I appreciate it! This place has one of the best sushi's I've had and I've had a lottttt of sushi lol.

Moyashi I don't know where Shiki gets it from but you can find it in any Japanese store.

The name, for all accounts did not scream Thai Food, yet, I haven't had better Thai food and the area. I stopped in for lunch and they had a such a good Lunch selection and affordable ($20) that also includes a drink. I ordered the BBQ (due to macro restrictions) paired with a small salad and rice. Level with me, BBQ chicken is something I order really to test the waters and I can honestly say, one of the better BBQ chickens I have had. The roti was highly recommended, and although I've enjoyed roti before, nothing has come close to this version. I thought it was too sweet for me and it didn't taste like most Pad Thais I've had or come to expect, but it was still okay. Veggie Rolls - This is pretty much salad/lettuce in a spring roll, and the peanut sauce is what makes it delicious. Not very large or filling, but good if you want some side greens. If you have a peanut allergy, skip these because they're kinda boring without the sauce. Panang Curry with Filet Mignon and added Japanese Pumpkin - This was a good dish! The steak was cooked a little too well for my liking, but it was generous in portion and the sauce was really flavorful. I was glad I added the pumpkin. Filet Mignon Pho - Not my favorite pho ever, but I liked that they offered Thai and Vietnamese options. When I ordered online, I didn't see in the description that it included bean sprouts or basil and that I had to order them for $2 each. I like my pho with every dang thing, so I spent the extra $4. The items did already come with the pho, plus I got an extra bag that I didn't really need to order. The steak was thinly sliced and tender, I just wish there was more of it. Salmon Rolls - These are pretty heavy, the fresh salmon is fried on the outside and rare on the inside. They come with a few dipping sauces, including a spicy mustard that I liked. Thai Tea Caramel Creme - This is honestly the reason I order from here. I am a damn fiend for Thai Tea-flavored desserts, and I crave this one all the time. It has a rich, velvety texture and a strong Thai tea flavor. I have thought of stopping by just to order this, and I probably will. Our orders have always been ready on time, although I can't speak for any dining-in experience, and I think it's a little pricier than other Thai restaurants. The website is just a little wonky... I like that everything is customizable in just about every way, and there are pictures of most items, but the pho order wasn't clear about what it would come with, and some of the upcharges are higher than they should be. However, I will come back for that Thai tea dessert because I've fallen in love.

Their menu is so big I would definitely come back and give it another try! Food was ready super fast. Great for take out or dine in!

I drive past often mostly before 11 which is when they open so I can't stop in, but this time I was able to stop by for a late lunch early dinner which I got to go. Parking is in the back and you can enter through the back door. Staff is so sweet and kind when they take the orders. I got the Kai Soi Noodle Soup because I loved it so much before, and I got a side of rangoon, a side of Roti, and a side of chicken Sa te. The Kai Soi Noodle Soup stayed hot for the drive back home and it is so delicious. I love how it's packed in a bowl with the soup on bottom and the noodles and veggies seperated at the top. The noodles taste incredibly fresh and just amazing. I loved eating the soft flaky roti on the side with the soup. I saved the rangoon and chicken sa te to eat for another meal and they were both delicious, however I felt the chicken was so thin so it was a little dry. Probably next time I should eat that immediately. Dipping it into the peanut sauce of course elevated it and it tasted very flavorful. Overall Dek Sen's is my favorite Thai food place in socal! I can't wait to try more from their menu soon!
