As an LA native I wanted to try a new sushi place down On Ventura. I genuinely wish yelp would let me do zero stars because that's how many stars this place deserves. I'll lead with this, poor sushi quality, awful service, long wait (when not busy) and appalling customer service. I have a severe pineapple allergy and I asked our server if the chicken teriyaki had pineapple juice. Turns out the dish did contain pineapple and the server Took the liberty of ringing it in for me without consulting me. I HAVE AN ALLERGY! I had to be the one to ask him what the verdict was on the dish, and he just said "it does have pineapple, but I told them no sauce" I would've love to order something else, but instead I was served COLD plain chicken. When I asked to speak with a manager, no one came over. I finally got up and went to the sushi bar. The head server told me to leave the chicken at the table so I wouldn't think he's just reheating it, there more chicken coming. I didn't want chicken!!!! I never even got to order what I wanted. I ordered a spicy tuna roll with soy paper ( add avocado & crispy onion) I got a disaster of a roll with shrimp and rice that was clearly NOT sushi rice. I told him to remove this as well and he tells me "I've never seen someone order this." My girlfriend also didn't get what she ordered and was disappointed in the fish quality. It did not taste like sushi grade fish, and it wasn't made with sushi rice. When she asked about her order the server walked away and turned around about 2 tables down and said just don't worry about it they would take care or the table. She, however, wanted to order something else. I cannot remember the last time service was so awful from both our server and the " head server". Ventura boulevard has several outstanding sushi venues. I suggest go to ANY one of them and avoid this place. You'll be disappointed. read more

I came here after a long long day on set... we arrived right before the dinner crowd. It was empty when we walked in but by the time we left, every table was taken. I will never go back to this spot, they have the worst sushi and sashimi's, the salmon with blue crab was disgusting, I've never had a blue crab roll that tasted something straight out of a can, it was wet n smelly. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my experience at Shiki sushi. Off the bat, as we were seated, we were presented with complimentary miso soup, edamame, bean sprout, and seaweed salad. We then ordered the Salmon Chunk Roll, Baked Langostino Roll, Black Spider Roll, Alex Special Roll, and Golden Tiger Roll. The salmon chunk roll was absolutely delicious. The roll was good as a whole due to the certain aioli they used to cover the salmon. The extra salmon cubes is a bonus. The Langostino Roll had to be my favorite. The langostino was cooked perfectly and was complimented with the smelt eggs and creamy sauce. It was placed on top of a well made california roll. The black spider roll was delicious as well. It's features was soft shell crab, and eel. Both were cooked perfectly, and the soft shell crab had an excellent crisp. The Alex Special Roll was good. The spicy tuna was good in flavor, though I wish the crispy rice was more crispy. It came with fried tempura which was flavorful and crispy. The Golden Tiger roll was also delicious. The cream cheese center adds a creamy texture to the dish. The tempura was fried perfectly, and the flavor was overall delicious. The restaurant specializes in their presentation. As seen in the pictures, they nailed the presentation for each dish. The chunk roll looked beautifully with the salmon cubes on the side. The smelt eggs on most of the dishes really provided a contrast to the colors. The extra bit of soft shell crab on the side of the black spider roll, makes the dish look full and presentable. The quality of all the food was excellent. You can taste the individual salmon pieces in the chunk roll. They tasted of fresh quality. The langostino was juicy and tender which proves it's good quality. The sushi rice was made well. I find many places to have mushy sushi rice, but this place nails it. The tuna tasted of good quality. The portion to price is incredibly fair. The restaurant is extremely generous with their portion. Not only did the rolls come by themselves, each of them had little add ons. It makes all the plates look full. In the chunk roll, they added a generous portion of salmon. They had a generous portion of langostino in the baked langostino roll. They did not skimp on the pieces for the Alex special roll. It also came with extra tempura. They added a generous extra bits of soft shell crab on the plate to the side. Finally, they load up the plates with sauces and other greens. The price is definitely fair for the portion, and what you are getting for the meal. The customer service was excellent as well. Our server Bryan was quick and keen on providing a good service. He was very kind and welcoming. The staff greet you as you walk into the store. Bryan made sure our water was always full and our table was cleaned from the empty dishes. The food came out fast. It did not look rushed either due to the nice presentation. The ambiance itself is pretty nice. We sat at a section which didn't look too nice, but was ok. They have a nicer section towards the main entrance of the restaurant. The place is incredibly clean. Finally, the parking is good because they have a parking lot. Delicious food here at Shiki Sushi. Came back and will keep coming back! Parking is quite good for being in a little strip mall on the boulevard, they even have extra parkinf after 6:30 next door. The longest I've had to wait which was on a Saturday was 15 minutes which is fine. Every other day seating is always immediate! This time my guy and I decided on white fish, yellowtail etc sush. All which melted in my mouth. The rolls don't disappoint either but this is definitely a place that you want to try other things Service: a little slow when there's no one there which is odd and when there's a lot of people there they seemed rather attentive so it's a hit or miss. I'm really torn on this review because I just had a very poor experience at the restaurant. The table next to us let their son play incredibly loud video games and music videos the entire time we were dining! I am so shocked anyone would let their child do that. I'm just as surprised that the restaurant workers didn't say anything. I could tell other diners were annoyed as well. It really ruined our dinner and we had two kids with us! As for the food it was really good. I love that they bring small salads and edamame. I did not like the tar tar, it reminded me more of a liquidy tuna coleslaw with no spice. The gyoza were awesome. I am so very disappointed with their lack of customer service. We ordered 300$ worth of sushi, and when my husband went to pick it up it was literally a bag. He questioned them several times and they insisted everything was in one bag. Well it wasn't we were missing 5 items, called them several times and no answer. Not sure how this place is rated 4 out of 5 stars and don't understand the good ratings either. I want to rate this place 1 star but felt bad so gave it 3. First of all: fish is not fresh. I ordered a few rolls and sushi. One of the rolls was just so terrible. It had such a strong fishy taste and not a good one. The second roll was covered in eel sauce and the third in spicy mayo and eel sauce. If you like to taste the sauce instead of the actual roll, then this place is perfect for you. Their prices aren't even cheap. So basically you are paying more than what the quality is worth. If you are into all those sauces being everywhere masking the roll then you will like this place. But if you are into tasting the actual fish then this place should be avoided. Service is slow too on top of that! So you are waiting and waiting for something that's not even worth it at the end. This is LA. So many sushi stops literally on every block with quality fish. This one can be avoided. read more

One of my favorite Sushi restaurants in the valley. My only recommendation is that if you plan on going on a weekend during dinner time you'll need reservations if you don't want to wait for over an hour. I love their pineapple Sake it comes in an actual pineapple with a ladle and you get to serve yourself. This cocktail is definitely one of the reasons I enjoy going here. Sushi is always good my personal favorites are the baked langostino roll, spicy rose roll, and hot night roll. I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 10 years. It has, no doubt, gotten much more expensive over the years but the quality of fish is still great. I love their salmon, not quite sure what makes it stand out so much amongst its nearby counterparts. Its always fresh! One of my favorite aspects of this restaurant are the 3 mini dish appetizers they give you, and let's not forget the free miso either! But the little dish is great and has a bit of edamame, bean sprouts, and seaweed salad. SO good. I love most of their rolls and i think their bento box is one of the best deals. It's so much food and the options are great. The salmon teriyaki is fire!! The specials are always on point and they have a great selection of sakes as well. My personal fav is the Junmai Kikusui Ginjo. It comes in a beautiful, crystal blue bottle, with a yellow label. Unmistakable. The restaurant is fairly big and has an outdoor area that is easily converted for large parties. All around a great place to go for sushi. read more
