Went here the other night with a friend. We both LOVE Shuka so wanted to see why shukette was about. First off the restaurant is really cute but on a busy night it's quite crowded. The service was great though. We started off with the Arctic char dip and the Moroccan bread. Amazing. The one at shuka is slightly better in my opinion as it is whipped but this was still great. And the bread is as well. We then got the philo beef thing...it defiently wasn't what we were expecting, however, it was pretty good. We also got the brussel sprout salad which I loved. One of the best meals I've had in manhattan! First off, they were so nice to let me wait inside the restaurant since i was about 20 minutes early and didn't want to wait for the rest of my party in the cold. The vibe inside was great, even on a weekday it was busy! We started with the labneh, beet tzatziki, and frena. The frena is small so we got two orders for the three of us which was perfect. The dips and frena were incredible - so fresh and flavorful! We got the pear and chicory salad, butter beans, delicate squash, and cauliflower. Of these, I'd say the salad and cauliflower were the best, but all were great! We got the fish in a cafe which was flaky, but beware of the parts of the fish you can't eat. For dessert, we got the famous tahini soft serve. This shockingly might've been the weakest part of the meal for us. It was good, but paled in comparison to the food. It was very cold and we had to let it sit before eating. Our server was nice, but the meal could've been paced a little bit better as we got a ton of things at once. Absolutely wonderful. This was an awesome meal. We had the hummus, frena, labneh, salad, cauliflower, fish in a cage and kebab. I had not a single complaint about anything we ate. The flavors were beyond exquisite. It brought me back to being in Israel and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The service was good and the ambiance is nice. Ode to the Shukette (little market)! My friend and I happened to pass by this restaurant one Thursday night, and saw it was packed. In the same street, no other restaurant had lines or was as bustling, so we decided to try it out. We're so glad we did! The wait for a table wasn't too bad. They estimated 30-mins for two people but texted us within 5-mins! We sat outside, on the side where there were no outdoor heaters. Still, the staff were very accommodating, even giving us blankets to warm up. We ordered the Frena (which came highly recommended by the staff), along with the Braised Butter Beans and Arayes. The Frena is Moroccan bread with garlic and oregano. It was soft with a bit of crunch on the outside, delicious, and the right complement to the creamy dishes we ordered. The Arayes was new to the menu, and consisted of a mix of lamb and beef. The meat was so tender, it melted in the mouth! The Braised Butter Beans lived up to expectations. It came with broccolini, a little chili, and some lemon and parsley, and was a hearty complement to the saltiness of the meat. It also came with a good amount of sauce, which took the place of us ordering any dips. To top it all off, we ordered mint tea, which was so fresh in taste and smell, it felt homemade. I heard amazing things about Shukette and we were lucky to get a dinner reservation for Friday evening. The place was packed and had an outdoor space as well that was also very busy. What can I say but that the food, service, even the music played was amazing! We had so many dishes but the Labneh and arctic char dips with the Frena and Lafa "rips" breads for dipping were amazing, along with small dishes like cauliflower, broccolini, sweet potatoes and roasted, char-like flavoring of the shrimp kebab. The group I was with loved their beer and cocktails and we tried the Mic Drop dessert. Another highlight was the Sesame Phylo cigar. This place is phenomenal! We sat on the covered patio in November and it was perfectly headed nice and cozy. We shared with labneh dip with frena bread -- super good, possible best dipping bread I ever had. We needed a second piece of frena to finish the dip but no complaints here. Then we moved on to the squash, which was slo very delicious. For our main course my husband and I shared the fish in a cage, it was certainly very good but wasn't the stand out of our dishes. Wow , my mouth is still pretty blown away by the food I had at Shukette last night. I was in town for one night only, so that means only one dinner, so it had to be good. I decided on Shukette based on reviews , location and menu. I was sat in the heated patio, and it was a perfect spot for people watching, one of my favorite activities when dining solo. My server was kind and explained the dishes that I was unfamiliar with, like frena. Speaking of Frena.....that bread was phenomenal. Like pita and foccacia had a baby. So buttery and delicious. I almosted ordered another one but I can't be spending $24 on bread lol the hummus was delicious, some of the best I've had. The shrimp was great too, so plump and juicy. I felt like the sauce needed a squirt of lemon but other the than that , no complaints. Yes it's an expensive place but the quality and taste of the food is well worth it. My favorite thing here is definitely the Frena w all the dips (hummus, labneh, eggplant). I honestly do not understand the hype about this place. The ambiance is great, don't get me wrong, and they play good music, but I feel that it wasn't deserving of all the rave reviews I was hearing. Snagged a reservation for two at the bar. This was a fun seating option because you can see into the kitchen and see all hustle from the food prep. Friendly service as well, our waitress was attentive to us during the night, but the food was what fell short for me. We had the Frena and Labneh as a starter, and I will say that the Frena was amazing. Very fluffy and light bread, which I loved. The Labneh was good as well but things went south from here. After getting our app, it took at least 40 minutes for the entree to come out. The timing of the meal definitely needed to be evaluated because this felt way too long. We opted for the Fish in a Cage, which was also pretty good-- the fish was nice and tender and the bones were large enough to pick around easily. As a side, we had the Leeks, which were SO underwhelming. This was recommended to us by our waitress, but it was literally just grilled leeks. No flavor or twist whatsoever and felt very plain. The worst part of the meal was dessert-- Tahini Soft Serve. Not sure if we were getting too much of the pomegranate molasses with each bite, but this tasted atrocious. The sauce that comes with the soft serve was sooooo so bitter, my friend and I thought it tasted like cough syrup. I swear we must have said "wow" like 20 times throughout our meal, and I'm so glad we were seated in the counter where the Chef could hear because they deserve all the props here! We snatched a last minute dinner reservation on a Friday and I'm so happy we did. They were not lying when they said they have some of the best Hummus in NYC, and dont get me started on the Frena bread which we quickly had to get seconds of. The Grilled Broccolini was delicious. They had this Persimmon salad with Feta that was to diee for, they shared it was coming off the menu soon because they're no longer in season and I will make sure I come back next fall just to try it again. This place opens at 5 (when I had my res) and within 15 minutes the place was packed and lively. They have an open kitchen concept and you can sit at the bar to watch. Service was great and our server was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The food here was stellar. My friend and I split the Frena, Pita, Whipped Carrot dip, Tempura Hen of the Woods with black garlic aoli, Grilled Broccolini, Lamb Kofta and Tahini Soft Serve. Upon arrival the staff were warm and friendly, and showed us to our seats once our table was cleared. We decided to get to Gazos to drink. We ordered the passion fruit and strawberry. I thought they were dine and kinda reminded me of a sangria. To start we ordered the roasted corn dip and the Lafa. The dip was really really good and the bread paired well with it, but I wish we got the Boureka instead. The Lafa had a layer of cream (not really sure what it was)over it, but I thought it was really good. From there we got the Smashed Cucumber and peach salad, grilled zucchini (a surprise by our waiter), crispy fairytale eggplant, and the lamb kabab. Everything was good, but nothing spectacular. This time, my friend and I tried: Lafa bread: 3.5/5 - Great flatbread but I would stick with the Frena- the flavor is more complex and I love a fluffy bread. Labneh dip: 5/5 Whipped Carrot Dip: 5/5 - This was a new dip on the menu! I thought it was phenomenal and actually even better than the labneh I was obsessed with last time. Perfectly tart and flavorful. Sunchokes allá plancha: 5/5 - Second fave plate of the night next to the whipped carrot dip. The sunchokes had a potato-like texture and paired SO well against the insane almond skardalia. Phyllo wrapped halloumi: 4/5 Citrus Celebration: 5/5 - So refreshing- I wish fruits were always prepared this way. I loved the juxtaposition against the pistachios. The Swirl: 3/5 - Good coconut soft serve but nothing crazy. I love Shukette, and am obsessed with their rotating menu model. My friends and I are now obsessed with Shukette. We reserved about 2 weeks prior for a 4 person table at 8:30. I walked by around 7 and noticed they had open tables and were accepting some walk ins at the bar. We ordered everything that the waiter recommended. For 4 of us we ordered the following and felt that it was enough food + Fish in a cage + Labneh + Garlic Bread + Squash + Heirloom Tomato Salad + Scallops + Ice cream I recommend everything above except the Squash. That was fine but not out of this world like everything else we had. Literally we all couldn't stop raving about this meal for a few days. The ice cream has a unique taste - initially we didn't love it but after mixing it in with the sauce at the bottom we liked it more. TLDR: run to Shukette immediately read more
