My family and I spotted this cafe while walking in Bar Harbor on our vacation. We saw the other amazing reviews and decided to try out. We were served right away by our very kind and energetic waitress. We started off with the Mac Attack bites and the Crab Cakes, both were very tasty and filling. The first time we came here, we got the salmon salad and lobster mac. The salmon salad hit the spot and was quite good, while the lobster mac was pretty average. I would rate that meal a 4/5. The second time we came back for the fish tacos. They ended up being pretty mediocre and dry. The lobster quesadilla was mediocre as well, mainly because the lobster was hard to taste. The clam chowder was our favorite order of that meal. Because of this, I would rate our second meal 3/5. The atmosphere is on the louder side. The staff was attentive and efficient with our orders. We went here twice! One night we were bar hopping and I got the lobster stew while we sat at the bar. It was amazing! Delicious, buttery with good sized lobster chunks. Definitely not a creamy texture though because it was a stew so keep that in mind! I recommended it to a woman who sat down next to me. Service was good at the bar. I ordered Lobster stew which was pretty light with cream and did not taste much of lobster flavor. There are big chunks of lobster but they are very overcooked. The seafood Mac dish was okay. The portion was large. The shrimp was perfectly cooked but lobster was a bit dry. The Margarita was also pure Vodka so very disappointed. The Cram Chowder was better than the lobster stew. We came by on a Friday and had a great lunch after making out way through the Park Loop. There was no wait for us fortunately though the place was pretty busy and almost fully packed. They have a big variety of mac and cheese (which you can top with lobster or some other choices). We went with the half mac and cheese and half rack of ribs. The ribs were the bartender's fav and they were great - fall off the bone tender and good sauce. The mac and cheese was filling - big pieces of pasta along with a good thick cheese. We wandered around Bar Harbor. We were only here for the day as we were on a cruise ship. We didn't plan an excursion. We were on a mission. That mission is to have a dam good bowl of clam chowder .. or do they say chowda?? (Spell check doesn't like that spelling.) We were told and observed that people from this region do not pronounce their r's. I love the dialect. I went to Yelp & saw great reviews of this place and another restaurant. We are so happy that we went here. We split Serena's Lobster. It comes with Chowda, Lobster meat in a butter sauce, corn on the cob, and fries. I ordered a Mai tai. Hubby had a beer, I think. Cue the music. Simply the Best by Tina Turner. Just sing the chorus. Simply the best. Better than all the rest.... That is exactly how we both felt about their clam chowder. It is creamy, flavorful, has plenty of clams and yet it isn't heavy like many clam chowders. This is exactly how I want my clam chowder from now on. Hubby & I could not stop talking about it... even days later. We loved the lobster as well. I loved that the fresh corn on the cob was cooked perfectly. Save room for dessert - if you must order one thing, order the blueberry pie!! This has got to be one of the best pies I've ever had - it has a crispy salty and sugary pie crust and is bursting with sweet local Maine blueberry filling. Pair it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and it's a match made in heaven. I'm not even a pie person but I'd 100% order this one again. For dinner I tried the baked crab dip, Jon's pub fries, and lobster mac & cheese, which were all great dishes for sharing. The crab dip is so smooth and melty, I was tempted to just eat a spoonful on its own. The mac & cheese is also rich and creamy, but I wished there was a little more lobster flavor in the sauce as opposed to simply adding lobster chunks as toppings. I also had the blueberry ale with my meal, which comes with fresh blueberries in it. It was a fun surprise and now I'm tempted to try adding blueberries in my beer at home now! Before heading over here, make sure you join the online waitlist and check-in at the reception upon arrival. I am a local who has gone to Side St numerous times, often to sit at the bar at happy hour. The deals are great, and some staff like Di are very nice, but I saw Thursday night a brown haired bartender act very annoyed to myself and other groups of people who did not deserve that reaction. She was rolling her eyes and making impolite comments to her patrons. I am sure the summer crowds are tough on the staff, but this conduct was very rude and I will be taking a break from Side St after this as they clearly do not value my business or experience there. read more

The Brussel sprouts (vegan) were delicious and little too much sweet and spicy sauce for my liking but I'd order again probably without the carrot shavings. The tomato soup was good but definitely not worth $6. The BLAT was so good! I added fresh jalapeños to it and it elevated it even more. The sweet potato fries? Amazing. The Mac and cheese was heavy & it does not come with a side. We weren't told that and we ended up paying $6 for sweet potato fries which.. not worth it. This place is the Ruby Tuesday of Bar Harbor. The people who rave about the food here are probably the same people who rave about food at Disney World. We got the shrimp to start, it was pretty good. I loved dunking the bread in the buttery sauce. The blueberry lemonade was pretty bad. Thanks to covid the server never even bothered to come around and top off our water and lemonade. For entrees we got the lobster roll and full rack of ribs. The lobster roll was filled with huge chunks of lobster meat. But I was not impressed with the flavor. The chips on the side were little unsalted crumbs, these are the types of chips you find at the bottom of family sized bag fit for the trash can. The ribs were also pretty bad. It is my own fault for ordering ribs in Bar Harbor. I wouldn't be shocked if these ribs off of the back of a Sysco truck and were picked up off the size of the road. We did not stay for dessert. Also the effectiveness of the face shields worn by servers are quite questionable, I can't wait for my COVID test results. read more

Incredible food, drinks, and service. We walked around Bar Harbor looking for a place to eat dinner and Side Street Cafe grabbed our attention. Outdoor seating is super dog friendly and they have water bowls all around. The drink and food menus had great variety, along with daily drink specials. We got lavender Moscow mules and coconut Margs, both of which were part of the specials. Being in Bar Harbor, we HAD to get seafood. The crab dip and Haddock sandwich were delicious. Always a must in Bar Harbor. You really just can't miss a meal here if you are in town. On an unusually chilly and misty summer day a cup of lobster stew really hit the spot. It had thick chunks of lobster and potato and a creamy and comforting broth. A cup is small and a little pricey but it's well worth it. The buffalo wings were super meaty and saucy with just enough kick. I like how they weren't fried which felt a bit healthier. I can't stress this enough -- save room for a slice of blueberry pie. I had been dreaming about this pie since my last trip here which was a few years ago. The blueberries are so fresh, the sugary pretzel crust is decadent and a side of orange creamsicle ice cream really just pulls all the flavors together.
