We got the lobster roll, crab cakes, chicken tenders and fries, Cesar salad, clam chowder, lobster melt, and blueberry pie. A solid 4 stars! The lobster roll was great! Very plentiful. The crab cakes had flavor and came with veggies which I loved because they were cooked perfectly. The Cesar salad was basic. The clam chowder was good but not great. The chicken tenders I was most disappointed in. The Lobster melt was so good. They toasted the bread on both sides before adding cheese and lobster! A pro move for sure. They refunded us, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other than that... Hometown Burger: this burger was pretty average. Fries were also pretty average. Lobster Stew: The stew is good, but the lobster on the side was not worth it at all. It's $12 for 2 oz, basically a small petri dish of lobster. Crab Dip: excellent!!! Decently spicy. Comes with pita bread. Tasty! Lobster Mac and Cheese: don't get the full size... You get more pasta but not more lobster. A friend and I came in for lunch on a Tuesday and although there were not many tables available, we were able to grab the last seats in the outdoor seating area. I ordered the Grilled Tuna Avocado Melt with a Caesar Salad, my friend ordered the Fish Tacos, and we decided to share the Lobster Mac & Cheese. The tuna sandwich and salad were pretty straightforward, but the Lobster Mac & Cheese won me over! The cheese sauce was creamy and they provided a generous amount of lobster with this dish! From corner to corner, east to west, north to south- Bar Harbor has its share of casual seafood restaurants with nice looking menus. But, it's off-season (late March) and A LOT of the town's restaurants are closed and won't open back up til April or May. In spite of that, Side Street Café was our answer. Located in the heart of Bar Harbor, we actually walked the 4 minutes from our hotel to here. Side Street is almost industrial meets rustic design with an elevated casual menu. Dining area up front, larger one in the back and bar area has counter seating with high tops around the perimeter. FYI- Side Street uses QR scannable menu code to avoid any paper menu-touching. Our Roasted Crab Dip starter was fantastic. Hubs enjoyed his Clam Chowder(w/bacon) and my Lobster Stew was good (wished it was a lil thicker). Our cocktails were excellent. Hubs' Strawberry Aperol Negroni was smooth and my 'Resting Beach Face' packed a punch with that fabulous real mango nectar. He enjoyed his Cuban Sandwich on a Pretzel bun and I had to re-ordered a Lobster Melt that called for American cheese (as I don't do American) but got it with Cheddar which was 10 times better! (Hubs took the original to our room). Service from Madison was bubbly and the rest of our cocktails were strong. Side Street impressed us- not because this was our only salvation when we wanted to have lunch but because OUT OF ALL the eateries in the area, this spot is here to the rescue and holding it down during COVID, during off-season and on a Sunday! If I knew this was the only restaurant worth sitting down AND opened in town, I would've brought my Monopoly set and watched a Netflix movie on my tablet- because this place is comfortable! This is defiantly one of the best restaurants in Bar Harbor. Friendly staff and amazing food. The Bowl and the Blueberry Pie were both the best I have had anywhere. Finding parking can be tricky. Please don't fall for the hype. I read all the reviews and thought we would have a good experience. This is an overpriced place with mediocre at best food. Servings are small. Understand we are in downtown Bar Harbor so everything is pricey, but expect good food and reasonable portions. Haddock was overcooked and tiny,and side vegetables were cooked to highlight the worst flavors in those veggies. Lobster roll was $38-of course not cheap anywhere but this was ridiculous for the tiny (but tasty) roll. Fish tacos were just ok. The first time we came here, we got the salmon salad and lobster mac. The salmon salad hit the spot and was quite good, while the lobster mac was pretty average. I would rate that meal a 4/5. The second time we came back for the fish tacos. They ended up being pretty mediocre and dry. The lobster quesadilla was mediocre as well, mainly because the lobster was hard to taste. The clam chowder was our favorite order of that meal. Because of this, I would rate our second meal 3/5. The atmosphere is on the louder side. The staff was attentive and efficient with our orders. This has got to be one of the best pies I've ever had - it has a crispy salty and sugary pie crust and is bursting with sweet local Maine blueberry filling. The crab dip is so smooth and melty, I was tempted to just eat a spoonful on its own. The mac & cheese is also rich and creamy, but I wished there was a little more lobster flavor in the sauce as opposed to simply adding lobster chunks as toppings. My family and I spotted this cafe while walking in Bar Harbor on our vacation. We saw the other amazing reviews and decided to try out. We were served right away by our very kind and energetic waitress. We started off with the Mac Attack bites and the Crab Cakes, both were very tasty and filling. I ordered Lobster stew which was pretty light with cream and did not taste much of lobster flavor. There are big chunks of lobster but they are very overcooked. The seafood Mac dish was okay. The portion was large. The shrimp was perfectly cooked but lobster was a bit dry. The Margarita was also pure Vodka so very disappointed. The Cram Chowder was better than the lobster stew. We came by on a Friday and had a great lunch after making out way through the Park Loop. There was no wait for us fortunately though the place was pretty busy and almost fully packed. They have a big variety of mac and cheese (which you can top with lobster or some other choices). We went with the half mac and cheese and half rack of ribs. The ribs were the bartender's fav and they were great - fall off the bone tender and good sauce. The mac and cheese was filling - big pieces of pasta along with a good thick cheese.
