A full 10. Ribs fell off the nones.. unique flavor, coleslaw also unusual flarored..carrots,halipino peppers thinly cut w/swet& sour dry dressing, homemade sweet potatoes w/ whipped butter/honey balls. Loaded blueberry pie w/ sugared crust. The summer ale beer was smooth yet flavorful. Great presentations. Shared shrimp appetizer was fresh,flavorful with wedges of pita bites drizzled with sauce.
Much better than I expected! The service was pretty good -- Our waiter was very chill yet upbeat. Southwest salad was delicious and a lot more food than I anticipated. The CLAM CHOWDER was honestly my favorite I've had on the coast from Boston to here. Blueberry pie was fantastic. My family got the Balance Bowl x2, the Philly Cheesesteak, shrimp, mac & cheese, and the southern comfort dish.
I made sure to hit side street cafe because I heard rave reviews about it and all the gluten free options. I was honestly kind of disappointed, $40 for the lobster roll and a $5 upgraded if you want a side other than potato chips! The roll could have used more mayo or sauce or something, it's only available cold. The lobster melt was better, but it's hard to not taste good on warm sourdough with melt cheese. The loaded fries were pretty good but nothing crazy for $14. The food was not bad by any means, but I wouldn't not say the quality and taste justified the price.
Excellent food and service and live music in the Annex. In our two visits, we had the clam chowder, scallops, lobster melt, hamburger, prime rib sandwich, and the blueberry IPA and Lunch IPA. Everything was great. I'd also recommend you upgrade a side to the mac and cheese, which was also delicious. And leave room for their blueberry pie! Special thanks to Cynthia who provided us courteous and efficient service at the bar on our first visit and at a table on our second visit.
We weren't anticipating going to Bar Harbor this trip so I was scrambling to choose a place for our anniversary dinner. I'm so glad we found this place. Everything was delicious! I loved the mocktail. We got there a little before 5 and were sat right away. Our server was great and our food came out fast and hot.
Service was very friendly, and there was no wait to sit on the porch. Lots of cute dogs. Food was satisfying - I liked their clam chowder a lot. It had tons of clams and was not super thick. The mac and cheese was just OK. Good, but not as mind-blowing as they and their reviews suggest. The sauce was also a bit broken. The pie was delicious, as are most wild blueberry pies, although I think the filling was far better than the crust. I'd say it's pretty reliable, especially if you haven't made reservations elsewhere.
As the name suggests, the "Side Street Cafe" is one-block off Main Street in Bar Harbor, literally on a side-street. Surrounded by flowering plants upon entering you'll find d a low ceiling with rough hand hewn beams. The restaurant can be a bit loud but this is managed by open windows and outdoor seating. The hamburger is listed as a smash burger ... but it is not a true smash burger... but that doesn't diminish its taste. Very juicy and an overall great burger. The Lobster Roll was excellent. LOTS of Lobster! Buttery, fresh, and tender. My only wish is the roll could have been toasted more. Then there is the Blueberry pie. OMGOODNESS THIS WAS A HEAVENLY EXPERIENCE. I love pie and this blueberry pie was tasty with an excellent crust. Could not have been any better. When visiting Bar Harbor, forget the Main Street restaurants and go find the Side Street Cafe.
Side Street Cafe is located very close to main street on Rodick Street. It is worth the stop for any meal. We did not have any wait when we arrived which was surprising as it looked packed. We were seated on their outside deck overlooking Rodick Street. We ordered drinks, an app, and entrees. My drink was a blueberry mint lemonade l. It had a punch of tartness and was very pretty. Our app was the Rodick Street Corn. It arrived at the table smothered in the Old Bay crema but you could also taste the lime and tajin. It was delicious! For my meal, I went with the firecracker burger with candied bacon, slaw and cheddar on a country roll. It typically comes with chips but I swapped those for sweet potato fries. First of all, candied bacon? Yes, please. The surprising part was the country roll. It was the perfect pairing with the burger. I ate every last bite. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I've had. They were perfectly cooked with the right amount of salt. Overall, I highly recommend eating a meal or 2 at Side Street Cafe when you're in Bar Harbor.
This place has over 2600 reviews #worthit. I anticipated having to wait but we got there at the perfect time, they were opening up another section of the restaurant for seating. So maybe 5 minutes. Everything we ordered was fabulous, the drinks, the food, the fish, the fries, even the black bean patty. I've literally been talking about the black bean patty for days. We also had a side of Mac and cheese, yum! They also offer some molding clay to help keep the kids entertained. My aunt and uncle have been coming to Maine for a decade and said this was their favorite place to eat. Tried and true. The entry is unique, like a secret tunnel. We sat on the ground floor, it has a huge bar and some covered seating on a deck. It looks like there is a second floor as well, maybe next time we will check that portion out. A note also this place is year round open, one of the few after tourist season.
It was very very cold inside. They did turn the fan off for us, but it's still very cold. The lobster stew is delicious. It has a good amount of lobster in it & the chopped green onions in it and the flavor; the bartender's choice cocktail was guava rum punch, and the charity was the food pantry ($2)That was nice. The blueberry margarita was very limey and tart, but strong The server was very nice and attentive. The lobster mac and cheese is always a favorite. We also got a slice of blueberry pie to go, and it was delicious.
July 2025: My husband and I stopped at Side Street Cafe because we wanted to have our first Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder at a highly recommended place and this was it based on reviews. We dined outside for lunch on the patio where it was dog friendly, since we had our 10 lb dog with us. We only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for seating. The clam chowder was good and flavorful, the lobster roll was very simple and minimalist. The main focus was the fresh lobster and buttered toasted bread, not so much the condiments. I considered it a little bland for me but I love adding pepper and hot sauce to my food. lol Also, our waitress, Harmony, was very friendly and provided great service. Overall we enjoyed our lunch and would recommend stopping here for a bite to eat!

4.5 stars. After an exhausting hike at Thunder Hole (we did more climbing than walking on the paved road) we drove into Bar Harbor for lunch. Probably because of COVID, most restaurants aren't taking reservations, and their information about dine-in on Yelp isn't accurate. Fortunately I checked the Side Street website, and they confirmed that they're not just doing take-out. The wait was about 20-30 minutes, which was the perfect amount of time for a breather and bathroom break. There's some benches outside for waiting patrons. The menu is quite extensive. There's food and drink for everyone's tastes. My sister and I ordered a pitcher of mango margarita, which was a little too sweet for me, but still delicious. I got a filling lobster Cobb salad, though I was jealous of my brother's buffalo wings. The crab dip was good, but I wasn't a fan of the chips. Service was fantastic, and they were quick for how packed it was. Though I don't anticipate visiting Bar Harbor again in the future (as this was just a vacation) I'd recommend anyone to stop by Side Street Cafe. read more
Lives up to the hype!!!! I checked out Yelp and a few blogs before coming to Bar Harbor and this was the top of my "lunch spot" list and didn't disappoint! We came straight here and would have waited for outside seating, but we're starving and working with a time crunch so we sat inside. The tastiness of the food is key! My mom and I both jumped at the chance for a lobster roll and clam chowder (when in Maine right?).SO TASTY. The clam chowder was perfectly spiced, creamy and full of clams and potatoes. The lobster roll was as it should be, tons of lobster, hot buttered bun and a little Mayo. I was so happy. I would definitely come back and have to note that so far, these are the only clean bathrooms I've come across in such a busy public location up here. read more

Visited on a Sunday night (place was PACKED on Saturday and impossible to sit without a reservation). As a tourist, I came to see what the hype was all about. Seems like the place is known for the Mac and Cheese, which though good, is heavy! All of the dishes were good and flavorful, and the menu is quite vast. Great spot for a large group, as there are so many options. You can find most of the classic "Maine" dishes here, including lobster. Would recommend if you're in the area! read more

Very good place with good basic food. We had a very good plate of nachos. We also had a very nice clam chowder. The black bean wrap was very good. Tubers had lobster rolls, good basic lobster rolls with a ton of meat, with a side of potato chips and a pickle. The blueberry pie was very very good with an interesting crust. read more

I have no idea how the food is here because we just went to try the blueberry pie but they easily deserve 5 stars for that alone. We ended up purchasing a whole pie to go because it was the best we've ever had. The sugar on it is top notch and we haven't stopped thinking about it. We live in CT but will be back to try the food and have more of the best blueberry pie ever. read more
Stopped by here on our recent visit to Bar Harbor based on the great Yelp reviews and we were very impressed! Despite the fact that it was a holiday weekend and very busy, we were seated promptly.... admittedly not at the best table and right by the kitchen but we were hungry and thrilled to be seated so quickly. The service was pleasant and efficient. Most importantly, the food was outstanding at a decent price. Highly recommend this place. My gluten-free daughter was also very pleased with the options available to her. read more

This place is worth the hype. I recommend everything we ate, the lobster Mac, the lobster roll, and the blueberry margarita were amazing. The clam chowder and fish tacos were also delicious. The seafood is so fresh (as expected). If you're into trying a lot of things on the menu, we ordered a bunch and split everything. One of the best restaurants we tried on the island. read more

Great place for dinner and not as busy as some others! I ordered a bar harbor sunset mock tail and my husband got the real ale beer. Both were tasty! We were able to make it there for happy hour which was nice to save a couple bucks on drinks and appetizers. We got the queso and it was surprisingly good! I was hesitant considering we are Texans and have high queso standards. My husband and I shared the seafood Mac and cheese. This is some classy Mac and cheese and is more like a pasta plate. It was a lot of food and great portions of shrimp and lobster. We loved our meal. Waitress was also nice though not the most attentive. No harbor views but the space is clean comfy. read more
We came in for dinner last week while visiting bar harbor and Acadia. We were there before high season, so it wasn't too crowded, although the bar seemed to be packed with locals! They have a happy hour! Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The inside is super cozy and inviting and they have outdoor seating as well. We got the lobster Mac and cheese and the Cuban sandwich. It came out super quickly! The Mac was absolutely dreamy! So creamy and flavorful! We got the half portion and it was more than enough! The Cuban was also so delicious! It's uniquely served on a pretzel bun and honestly it was a game changer! A great meal! For sure suggest while in bar harbor! read more
From beginning to end, the dining experience at the side street café was one of enjoyable customer satisfaction, not just the service, but the cleanliness and the level of experience showed by the culinary team working in the kitchen. The appetizers were quick and delicious and definitely hit the spot as we waited for the remainder of our items to arrive. The party had lobster rolls with chips and a pickle and a cup of chowder, another had the lobster Caesar salad, one had lobster stew and I enjoyed the haddock Reuben, and lastly were the nachos enjoyed by the last guest dining with us. All of them were incredibly well presented, and delicious. The server was quick, attentive and made the entire meal top notch. read more

The portion was great for four people! NEW ENGLAND CLAM CHOWDER BOWL ($7.95) - Ingredients: Clams. Potatoes. Other creamy, savory things I can't quite lock my tastebuds on. Comes with Oyster chips. - Pros: By far the best deal. - Cons: When asked how large the portion was, our server replied "it's like a cereal bowl!" It's huge. She eats huge cereal. A moose could eat this for brunch. CREATE YOUR OWN MAC & CHEESE [FULL] ($14) - Cajun seasoning, crushed red peppers, pulled pork - "Very Mac-y and cheesy." - cousin-in-law - "It's the same size as the cereal bowl!" - server - Our server exclaimed that she could finish a full bowl of m+c in one sitting, but that you need to come HUNGRY and there will be leftovers to-go. We ate it all, but she was not joking. CREATE YOUR OWN MAC & CHEESE [HALF] ($10.95) - Cajun seasoning, mushroom, half a hamburger - "Uhh... We'll i'm not a m+c person which is not their fault [laughs]. After two minutes i remembered. First half was pretty good. Pretty cheesy, creamy. Lot of frickin [pasta] shells." - sibling MDI FISH TACOS* ($15.95) - Seasoned broiled haddock, poblano coleslaw, avocado, cheeses, flour tortillas. Served with black beans, rice - "Dry. It was bland. The tortillas tasted like they were bought from a store. Not even the good aisle." - We initially asked our server which was better, the nachos or the fish tacos. She said "Absolutely the tacos. No question." This place is great for dinner! Make sure you add yourself to the online waitlist before heading over since there might be a long wait. Appetizers: Clam chowder was the best we had here and in Portland. Baked crab dip was also good but pretty rich and creamy. Entrees: Lobster mac and cheese was delicious. Got the full portion and it was a ton of food. Lobster roll was good with big chunks of lobster but bread wasn't anything special. Drinks: blueberry margaritas were delicious! read more
This place was one of the most recommended places to eat in Bar Harbor! We placed a takeout order on a weeknight evening and our food was ready in about 20 minutes! Everything on the menu honestly sounded really good but we ended up trying their pulled pork sandwich, their haddock sandwich, and their MDI fish tacos (also filled with haddock). Both sandwiches came with a side of super crispy chips and a pickle and we were all impressed with the portion sizes. I really loved how fresh and light, yet still very flavorful, the haddock fish tasted. The pulled pork sandwich had a great tangy barbecue sauce (I only wish there had been more!) and a very tasty slaw on top as well! Overall, the food from such a quaint and charming place was a wonderful way to recover from a tiring long car drive to get to Maine. read more
After a long drive to Bar Harbor and a quick hike up the Beehive Trail, we found ourselves at a nice restaurant off the main strip. We were both so happy to eat, but we ended up getting even more than we expected. The food here is absolutely delicious. The chef's definitely put a lot of love into their food and I was so happy to have chosen a good lobster mac and cheese. My wife chose the fish tacos and they were packed with so many different flavors. Even the blueberry pie was refreshing and a great balance of sweet and savory from the ice cream! I will recommend to anyone to to definitely try this place out. Sam (the bartender) and Jenn (the waitress) are definitely assets to this place and I am grateful for their great customer service. We came here for lunch on Labor Day and it was pretty busy. We waited one hour even though they told us it would be a 25 minute wait. The service was very polite and friendly once we were actually seated. Staff were masked, and distancing measures were in place. They do have some lobster items on the menu, but it is mostly a normal cafe. We tried the crab cakes, salmon salad and pulled pork sandwich. The crab cakes were the best thing we tried. The other items were good, but not great. Overall, an okay place to eat if you are pressed for options in Acadia. read more

Saw the Side St., Café after our walking tour of Bar Harbor. Absolutely delicious food. The outside deck was packed and we decided to stop. The blueberry pie was to die for So glad we saved room. Panzanella salad was delicious and my husband truly enjoyed his lobster stew. read more

Nice ambience, great service, average food. We got the Bangin Shrimp, which was grilled shrimp in a very buttery but flavorful sauce served with toasted bread. The blacked salmon and kale salad was average - came with grilled mushrooms, tomatoes and goat cheese but didn't quite hit the spot. read more

Our favorite dinner of all the restaurants in Bar Harbor during our trip (also ate at Paddy's, Blaze, Melt, Cafe This Way). Can't say enough about this place. Lobster roll in a hotdog bun, but overflowing with 6oz of amazing lobster (favorite lobster roll of the trip)! Beet Salad was amazing- fresh, refreshing, and filling- so good I had it for two nights! Chips & queso app was to die for- best homemade queso we've ever had. Great outdoor and indoor seating. Attentive service. Food comes out fast. Warm Blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream is a must- also had it two nights in a row. Came here one night just for the blueberry pie! 100% recommend read more

Food 3.5 Service 5 Ambiance 4-5 Street parking We got lobster or "lobstah" Mac and cheese, veggie Mac and cheese, and blueberry pie with ice cream Mac and cheese ok. Veggie version not recommended. It had very hard Brussels sprouts so couldn't eat those. Blueberry pie with ice cream was great Our server was very nice and also helpful with deciding on our food choices. The restaurant overall is a great place. We went around 9 pm on a Sunday night during Labor Day weekend. We signed up on the wait list online maybe a little after 8 which was very convenient because other restaurants required you to sign up on the waitlist in person. We were behind 19 groups and it took less than an hour. read more

It was a misty night in Bar Harbor & we went back for a repeat visit during our 2nd trip to ME. From the service to the food it was amazing. The Lobstah party was 2 lobster rolls that had a light lemon mayo. I am not a fan of the mayo lobster roll but this one was very thin on the mayo with enormous chunks of lobster yummy. The steak sandwich had a large amount of melted cheese that brought the sandwich together. Since we are from Philly, we are always skeptical of anything like a cheesesteak but my hubby couldn't stop eating it. For my son, he was disappointed in his clam chowder soup, it is hard to live up to the best in Boston. He felt it was like canned soup but with more clams. He is very subjective about mac & cheese, the pulled pork was great but the mac and cheese was lacking a flavorful punch. But he was brought to heaven when he ate the blueberry pie. This restaurant had a fun upbeat vibe, and what originally was said to be a 20 minute wait ended up only being 5. Alcohol drinks were great. My husband got the lobster roll and wasn't impressed. We came here after visiting Acadia National Park in March (mainly because bo other places were open) and it had great reviews on both google and yelp! Came in without a reservation around 2:45pm for a late lunch. We were seated in the bar area. There were maybe 4-5 other parties in the bar area and some ppl in the dining room...but pretty empty. Wa hen it became 4ish the place was PACKED (we assume for their happy hour). Our server was alright but not very friendly. We got the fries (for the table-large portion) and clam chowder to start. The clam chowder was good and the french fries were SO YUMMY! We also got a hibiscus margarita on happy hour with salt on the rim for $5-not too sweet and very much needed. We for the lobster mac & cheese bc they were not doing the lobster roll (not the season for it) and crab cakes. The entrees fell a bit short. The lobster mac and cheese wasn't very flavorful and with the 3 of us we didnt finish it. Not much lobster and not much flavor for the pasta (velveeta shells and cheese). The crab cakes also fell short. I'm from N. Virginia area and they were nothing in comparison to the crab cakes we get from the Chesapeak Bay. Some local favorites seem to be the french fries, chicken wings, clam chowder, and lobster mac&cheese. Overall, cute restaurant. + Ambiance + Appetizers + Happy hour - The fact that they charge you $0.95- $1.00 for sauce for your French fries - They also charge for Tartar sauce for the crab cakes! - Entrees fell short of expectations - Service was mediocre read more
We were looking for a good late lunch after a day of adventuring at Acadia, and we really enjoyed our time at Side Street Cafe in Bar Harbor. We were able to be seated outside right away around 3:30pm. Lucky for us it was the start of happy hour for 2 hours. We had arguably the best and uniquely flavored margaritas for a reasonable price - wild blueberry for me and an apple cinnamon for my husband. At $8 per margarita we thought that was a good happy hour deal. We shared 2 entrees - a lobster roll and a haddock Reuben. Both were delicious. The cafe boasts one of the biggest lobster rolls in the area, and after several across the area, we thought that was fair. The haddock Reuben was delicious - large and with a good amount of each of the toppings. And finally the house made chips were delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive and you never had to worry about waiting to ask them a question. We would definitely come back! read more
