A full 10. Ribs fell off the nones.. unique flavor, coleslaw also unusual flarored..carrots,halipino peppers thinly cut w/swet& sour dry dressing, homemade sweet potatoes w/ whipped butter/honey balls. Loaded blueberry pie w/ sugared crust. The summer ale beer was smooth yet flavorful. Great presentations. Shared shrimp appetizer was fresh,flavorful with wedges of pita bites drizzled with sauce.
Much better than I expected! The service was pretty good -- Our waiter was very chill yet upbeat. Southwest salad was delicious and a lot more food than I anticipated. The CLAM CHOWDER was honestly my favorite I've had on the coast from Boston to here. Blueberry pie was fantastic. My family got the Balance Bowl x2, the Philly Cheesesteak, shrimp, mac & cheese, and the southern comfort dish.
I made sure to hit side street cafe because I heard rave reviews about it and all the gluten free options. I was honestly kind of disappointed, $40 for the lobster roll and a $5 upgraded if you want a side other than potato chips! The roll could have used more mayo or sauce or something, it's only available cold. The lobster melt was better, but it's hard to not taste good on warm sourdough with melt cheese. The loaded fries were pretty good but nothing crazy for $14. The food was not bad by any means, but I wouldn't not say the quality and taste justified the price.
Excellent food and service and live music in the Annex. In our two visits, we had the clam chowder, scallops, lobster melt, hamburger, prime rib sandwich, and the blueberry IPA and Lunch IPA. Everything was great. I'd also recommend you upgrade a side to the mac and cheese, which was also delicious. And leave room for their blueberry pie! Special thanks to Cynthia who provided us courteous and efficient service at the bar on our first visit and at a table on our second visit.
We weren't anticipating going to Bar Harbor this trip so I was scrambling to choose a place for our anniversary dinner. I'm so glad we found this place. Everything was delicious! I loved the mocktail. We got there a little before 5 and were sat right away. Our server was great and our food came out fast and hot.
Service was very friendly, and there was no wait to sit on the porch. Lots of cute dogs. Food was satisfying - I liked their clam chowder a lot. It had tons of clams and was not super thick. The mac and cheese was just OK. Good, but not as mind-blowing as they and their reviews suggest. The sauce was also a bit broken. The pie was delicious, as are most wild blueberry pies, although I think the filling was far better than the crust. I'd say it's pretty reliable, especially if you haven't made reservations elsewhere.
As the name suggests, the "Side Street Cafe" is one-block off Main Street in Bar Harbor, literally on a side-street. Surrounded by flowering plants upon entering you'll find d a low ceiling with rough hand hewn beams. The restaurant can be a bit loud but this is managed by open windows and outdoor seating. The hamburger is listed as a smash burger ... but it is not a true smash burger... but that doesn't diminish its taste. Very juicy and an overall great burger. The Lobster Roll was excellent. LOTS of Lobster! Buttery, fresh, and tender. My only wish is the roll could have been toasted more. Then there is the Blueberry pie. OMGOODNESS THIS WAS A HEAVENLY EXPERIENCE. I love pie and this blueberry pie was tasty with an excellent crust. Could not have been any better. When visiting Bar Harbor, forget the Main Street restaurants and go find the Side Street Cafe.
Side Street Cafe is located very close to main street on Rodick Street. It is worth the stop for any meal. We did not have any wait when we arrived which was surprising as it looked packed. We were seated on their outside deck overlooking Rodick Street. We ordered drinks, an app, and entrees. My drink was a blueberry mint lemonade l. It had a punch of tartness and was very pretty. Our app was the Rodick Street Corn. It arrived at the table smothered in the Old Bay crema but you could also taste the lime and tajin. It was delicious! For my meal, I went with the firecracker burger with candied bacon, slaw and cheddar on a country roll. It typically comes with chips but I swapped those for sweet potato fries. First of all, candied bacon? Yes, please. The surprising part was the country roll. It was the perfect pairing with the burger. I ate every last bite. The sweet potato fries were some of the best I've had. They were perfectly cooked with the right amount of salt. Overall, I highly recommend eating a meal or 2 at Side Street Cafe when you're in Bar Harbor.
This place has over 2600 reviews #worthit. I anticipated having to wait but we got there at the perfect time, they were opening up another section of the restaurant for seating. So maybe 5 minutes. Everything we ordered was fabulous, the drinks, the food, the fish, the fries, even the black bean patty. I've literally been talking about the black bean patty for days. We also had a side of Mac and cheese, yum! They also offer some molding clay to help keep the kids entertained. My aunt and uncle have been coming to Maine for a decade and said this was their favorite place to eat. Tried and true. The entry is unique, like a secret tunnel. We sat on the ground floor, it has a huge bar and some covered seating on a deck. It looks like there is a second floor as well, maybe next time we will check that portion out. A note also this place is year round open, one of the few after tourist season.
It was very very cold inside. They did turn the fan off for us, but it's still very cold. The lobster stew is delicious. It has a good amount of lobster in it & the chopped green onions in it and the flavor; the bartender's choice cocktail was guava rum punch, and the charity was the food pantry ($2)That was nice. The blueberry margarita was very limey and tart, but strong The server was very nice and attentive. The lobster mac and cheese is always a favorite. We also got a slice of blueberry pie to go, and it was delicious.
July 2025: My husband and I stopped at Side Street Cafe because we wanted to have our first Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder at a highly recommended place and this was it based on reviews. We dined outside for lunch on the patio where it was dog friendly, since we had our 10 lb dog with us. We only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for seating. The clam chowder was good and flavorful, the lobster roll was very simple and minimalist. The main focus was the fresh lobster and buttered toasted bread, not so much the condiments. I considered it a little bland for me but I love adding pepper and hot sauce to my food. lol Also, our waitress, Harmony, was very friendly and provided great service. Overall we enjoyed our lunch and would recommend stopping here for a bite to eat!

Came here because we needed a Plan B. Needed a Plan B because we were supposed to have lunch at the Jordan Pond restaurant in Acadia National Park but in the middle of our wait for our reservation, the refrigeration units died about 2pm and they shut the whole restaurant down. Based on your reviews, and they could accommodate dietary issues, we came to Bar Harbor Side Street Cafe. What a great decision! Because we got there for a very late lunch or early dinner, we waited the 15 minutes to happy hour to order some half priced drinks and pitchers. Well worth it for the margarita and special coconut margarita with toasted pieces of coconut in the drink that was so good. We had some crab dip and also a hummus appetizer. The hummus came with diced olives which I thought I'd not like but did. Everyone else also liked it. The crab dip crock was delicious. The bread that came with both was perfectly toasted. For my main meal, I had to go with the lobster Cobb salad. There was plenty of salad parts to go with the lettuce - bleu cheese, bacon, tomato, cucumber, and lobster. A nice dressing came with it. Kids had lobster stew which they really liked, and wife had an enjoyable BBQ chicken. Even with our large party, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Split checks were not an issue. I'm sorry not to have found Side Street Cafe sooner! This place rocks. read more
We ordered chicken mac and cheese and chicken burrito. The Chicken was a bit dry and was difficult to swallow. But It tasted good. There a paid parking lot near this place so parking is not an issue. The bar was busy, I am sure they have some in-house famous drinks. Foodwise it was okay. read more
We stopped at this place after doing a bike ride in the rain at Acadia. We just wanted to warm up before heading to the airport. It definitely did the trick. We started with clam chowder. It was good, not the best we had during our stay at Acadia, but pretty good. I had the Serena lobster and it was fantastic. The lobster was so tasty and warm in all that butter. It was delicious. My boyfriend had the horseshoe. He really enjoyed it. He loves cheeseburgers so it hit the spot for him. The waitress was friendly and the service was great. We'd love to come back! read more

Great service, SHOCKINGLY bad food. Paid about $250 (after tip) for extremely mid lobster roll appetizer, a lobster grilled cheese that a child could have made, and the blandest Mac and cheese with lukewarm lobster dumped on top. Drinks were great but overall extremely disappointing for the price, especially when the reviews made it sound great. Felt more like a subpar Red Lobster, don't waste your money :( read more

We were really excited to try this place, but the food itself was just okay. We had the luxury of trying many lobster rolls and cups of chowder before coming to this spot, so we ranked it to be just ok--they use old bay/Cajun style seasoning in the mayonnaise marinade. The lobster itself was alright, not as fresh as the lobster in a roll we had the night before from a random lobster pound we drove by and decided to make a stop at. Salad was ok but nothing spectacular. I suggest broiling the broccoli to a crisp with olive oil instead or just cooking them. Service was nice and since we came a week after peak season, we only had a 15 min wait... we ended up sitting at the bar anyways so no wait. read more

This place is hoppin for being on a side street! Pro tip: join the waitlist on their website at least an hour before you plan on eating. Our initial wait on a Tuesday in October was 90 min, but got a text our table was ready after a little over an hour. The Apple cider margarita is a must! Our food came out very quick: half rack and Mac plus the Adam bomb burger. Both delish. Mac n cheese is one of the best I've ever had. To top it off, their blueberry pie is to die for! Order the blueberry pie! I repeat, do not eat here without eating the blueberry pie! Now for the rest of the review. My wife and I were recommended Side Street Cafe by a local who said it's an actual great place to eat and not the run of the mill tourist trap off Main Street. We ended up coming two nights in a row. That's how good the food is. Appetizers - The roasted crab dip is heavenly (and larger than I anticipated.) Highly recommend. The chips and dip is pretty good, but essentially tastes like Tostito's salsa and queso, so go with the crab dip instead. Entrees - The lobster roll wasn't amazing by any means, but very solid. Either there was so little butter I couldn't taste it, or they forgot to put any on, but the meat was chilled and tasty. I'd get it again, but at best it's the third best roll I've eaten while in Boston and Maine. (Best - Luke's in Boston!) The Buffalo Mac was very tasty and tastes exactly how you'd expect. My wife loved the Reuben the most. Desert - GET THE BLUEBERRY PIE Service - Definitely get on the wait list before you arrive. It's on their website. Both nights we had a 30 minute wait. Additionally, don't sit in the bar area. The servers are way over extended and you'll end up waiting 30 minutes to pay like we did. All in all, we loved it so much we came twice, so that's got to say something! read more
Came here twice during the week we spent in Bar Harbor. Unfortunately, we visited in early May when lobster was out-of-season so we were not able to try their famed lobster rolls. For dinner, I had a bowl of clam chowder which was quite good and filling. After seeing their happy hour menu, we decided to come back a couple of days later. My friends and I enjoyed all the different flavors of margaritas (blueberry, pomegranate, jalapeno). We also got the buffalo chicken bread (a little heavy on the sauce) and pretzel to share. read more
Bombbbb. The lobster rolls here are actually lobster with roll not the other way around. They give you ALOT of meat! Family had burgers and they said it was delicious. Mock tails were kinda wack but food was amazing. Only negative is the waiter rotation they have going on. Seems like they all help you out and some are better than others so hard to leave a tip since they probably split. Definitely would come back read more

Omg I DREAM of this spinach and artichoke dip. It was so, so good. In fact, it was so good that I've been trying to re-create the magic at other restaurants without much success. Also loved that the lobster mac and cheese was customizable ("build-your-own"). I made a mistake adding the lobster bisque though; it made the overall meal a bit too cholesterol-heavy for my liking. read more
Side Street Cafe was the first restaurant we visited during our trip to Bar Harbor, and it's definitely a place I'd visit again. The restaurant was large but very busy. Despite this, we were able to get a table quickly if we were willing to eat inside. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the food was good. My husband really enjoyed his lobster roll and clam chowder. I ordered the black bean wrap...it was ok, but I really wish I had tried the Mac and cheese instead...that looked amazing. They also had a lot of options for kids. We opted for the cheeseburger slider meal for our toddler, which was definitely a good burger, but perhaps too fancy for a toddler who's highest standard is Burger King. Great for an adult or a kid who appreciates high quality food, though! read more

We were looking for a new place for dinner at bar harbor. Side street cafe had good reviews. I decided to give it a try. We had really great experience. We arrived early around 5:15pm. We weee promptly seated. It was still happy hour. So we got some chicken wrings to nosh on while deciding what we would have for dinner. The server was very good and took good care of us. 3 of us had lobster roll and clam chowder. The other of us had lobster entree. We all enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere was pleasant. Not too loud. There were many people waiting in line which made us very happy. All in all, it was very good experience. read more
Side Street, like most Bar Harbor restaurants, is seasonal. Although Side Street doesn't close down completely in the off-season, they greatly reduce offerings, including not serving any of their lobster dinners. We visited in mid-May and unfortunately, the menu was still restricted. Around Memorial Day weekend should be when they fully open up again for the busy summer season. We ordered the lobster mac & cheese, the fish tacos, lobster stew, and a slice of blueberry pie. Fish tacos were totally underwhelming and mostly coleslaw. Couldn't taste much of the fish, and it was very soggy. Lobster mac & cheese was better, especially if you like your mac & cheese more creamy than cheesy. Not extremely impressive, but worth ordering if you're also coming during off-season and ordering from a limited seafood menu. We ordered the larger size, and it was huge. Favs of the meal were definitely the lobster stew and the blueberry pie. Interesting that they call it a "stew" instead of a "chowder" -- it was pretty thick and creamy, but maybe less thick than you'd expect from something labelled a chowder. Loved the mild sweetness and large chunks of lobster, but I'd recommend a cup instead of a whole bowl due to its richness. Definitely order the blueberry pie (made with wild Maine blueberries!) warm with a scoop of ice cream -- by far our favorite part of the meal. The pie crust is super flaky and savory, and the wild blueberries are definitely distinct. Prices in Bar Harbor tend to be on the higher end, and Side Street is no exception. Service was great, and we felt comfortable with their COVID protocols (especially since our party was all fully vaccinated). They also offer a pretty extensive cocktail + beer menu, including pitchers of delicious-looking margaritas, but we opted to stay sober so we could wake up early the next day to hike in Acadia. If the wait time is not astronomically long, I'd recommend this spot, especially if they're offering their full seafood menu. read more

10/10 for atmosphere! This place was really fun and full of energy Service was meh. Servers share sections so you may have 3-4 people waiting on you. Our server that took our drink and food order left in the middle of our meal and we definitely were forgotten about for a little while. Food was pretty good! We started with their drink special which was blueberry basil margarita and we decided to get a pitcher. Pitcher was small along with our glasses compared to normal sized margaritas at surrounding tables. Definitely just tasted like a blueberry margarita and not much basil to it, but still delicious! We are suckers for anything blueberry lol We shared the Haddock Reuben with clam chowder. Reuben was really good!! Clam chowder was average. We also got the Northern Cuban which was also great!! Also a sucker for a pretzel bun We heard someone walking in say they had the best blueberry pie they've ever had so we had to try a slice! Ice cream was a little melty, but makes sense when you put it on a hot piece of pie. It was delicious with little sugar crystals on top. Yum!! read more

Really enjoyed our dinner experience at Side Street Cafe! We stopped by on a busy evening and were seated immediately (although our table was pretty sticky). I ordered the haddock sandwich with fries and a salad, and my partner got a lobster roll. The food was very tasty but not spectacular. Service was prompt! Overall, it was pretty good. I would normally rate it a 4 but knocked off a star because of service. Let's start at the beginning. We had a dog so we opted for outdoor seating and got seated pretty quickly. They're very dog friendly. We saw a few other dogs in their outdoor seating area. (Pro Tip: be sure to join their wait list online so you can wait virtually until it's almost time for your table) Food-wise, it was pretty good. We had gotten the lobster roll, lobster mac and cheese, and lobster bisque (did I mention lobster? lol) The lobster mac and cheese and lobster roll were good. Nothing crazy or outstanding but definitely above average - it was delicious - 4-stars worthy. The lobster bisque was just okay though. I would say average at best and I'm comparing it to others that I had before. Service-wise, the server just felt very cold. He wasn't rude at all or anything that would turn me off. I'm just comparing it to the service that I've gotten at other restaurants in the area and again. All of the other servers seem great though so I don't think it's across the board. Overall, I would most likely come back. I do wish I could give it more stars but the 3-stars shouldn't deter you from checking out this spot. read more

Stopped by this place after hiking in Acadia and asked our waitress what she recommended to try since we were from out of town and she told us to try the lobster roll....Do not get it! My husband and I both ordered the roll bc the waitress said we would be said if we shared one. She was wrong, I took one bite and couldn't eat anymore. It was honestly the worst lobster roll that I've ever had in my life! :/ I've had a better roll in Ohio which is saying a lot. Other than that our waitress was great and super nice and the rest food (Fries and soup) was ok. Pretty much your typical bar type food. If you go here get something else other than the super overpriced absolutely non edible, weird tasting, over cooked lobster roll. read more

It seems to be the most popular restaurant around. Very crowded but they have their automated text system where you get to know about your wait time and the queue status. It was raining while we waited, so my suggestion for the restaurant - have some arrangements for the people waiting outside to protect them from rain. The restaurant was super crowded but the way the staff handled it was amazing. Once we reached our table, we didn't feel the crowd anymore. The service was very fast, the food was quantity and quality was good and I could see why they are so popular. Hardworking, attentive staff. Wonderful experience during this visit. Wish to try some other dishes next time. I found it a bit expensive but later found out that all other restaurants have similar prices. read more

Getting unlucky in the parking lot for the Jordan Pond house turned to luck in having lunch at this place instead. We were at Acadia NP for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. Arrived around 11:30 in a Saturday and quickly got a seat on the porch with our pup. Gotta love a place with dog friendly seating. The waitress was super nice to us and our pup. The food was delicious and came out so quickly! Bonus points for bay seasoning on the fries. The pineapple coconut margarita I had was just so tasty. Walked by later in the day and it was packed - so go on the earlier side if you don't want to wait in the summer season. read more

This place is where the locals go in Bar Harbor, and it is fantastic. Especially good for people seeking gluten free options. The Nomad burger on the gf bun was one of the best, juiciest, most flavorful burger I had in years! My wife had the jerk chicken sandwich and after every bite she kept saying 'this is really good food!' They're doing a great job making things COVID safe and the waitstaff are very friendly. Overall, entrees were ok to mediocre, but I wasn't the biggest fan of the price I was paying- although this may be par for the course on the rather touristy Bar Harbor area. The blueberry pie was the best I've ever eaten though and would come just for that. Lobster Mac: The Mac-n-cheese wasn't anything special, although portion size was fairly large and there was a good amount of lobster meat in there. Fairly straightforward. Fish tacos: Underwhelming- the tacos were a bit dry and the fish was dry and tough. Rice and beans were okay, but nothing special Lobster Stew: Really tasty- would get this again! I've heard some people say it's a bit thin but I thought it was perfect. Blueberry pie: AMAZING. Wow! Get it a la mode and this made my whole night. The pastry was buttery, flaky, and crispy while the blueberries were perfectly sweet. This was the highlight of the whole meal. All in all, without any beverages, the total cost came out to ~$40/pp, which for the food that we were getting didn't seem like a good value. read more
Came here looking for dinner with outdoor dining. Most of their outdoor dining though are high tops and along the edge high tops though. So don't expect any regular tables. The place was bustling so we hoped it was good food and it was1 I was pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend coming back! It's nice that they have an online wait list so that we could put our names down early before we even got there. Some staff members were wearing masks. The menus are all QR code scans. .We ordered the main crab cakes which had great flavor but didn't have a lot of crab meat in them. Maybe because I"m comparing them to the Maryland crab cakes that I've had before that were stuffed with crab meat. The Lobster roll and haddock Reuben was very solid I would recommend getting the Serena's Lobster because they basically pulled apart the meat of a whole lobster for you and it was soooo good. THe freshness and sweetness of the lobster meat was to die for. The corn though they could have doe a lot better on getting actual sweet corn. The corn on the cob that we had had no taste. The New England clam chowder that came with it was ok I've definitely had ones that came with more clam in it. But overall, very solid place. Also we highly recommend getting the blueberry margarita! Amazing for anyone who loves blueberry flavored everything in Maine! Would definitely come back again! read more
