There's something about Sizzler that just gets ya. It's kinda like the dad in So I Married An Axe Murderer said: they must put something in their food that makes you craze it fort-nightly. I gotta every couple of weeks. The service at the Santa Clara Sizzler is actually pretty good. I don't usually have to wait too long before they give me some attention. There's one waitier who is really nice and takes good care of folks. The food ranges from pretty average (the All-You-Can-Eat Shrimp are only OK) to pretty good. Their New York Steak is about a 7.5 on my scale and I've eaten at a lot of steakhouses. The prices are OK and the atmosphere is condusive to long chats and wild laughter. The cashier is coughing without covering her mouth as shes getting our drinks ready. Then one of the servers is also sick. She leaned over to the salad bar and coughed all over without covering her mouth. Talked to the manager about it he said they are gonna send the cashier that's sick to work in the back with the rest of the food. The other sick waitress still served food to all tbe guests. The two dishes that were coughed on stayed out for 20 mins as customers kept filling their plates. They finally took them away and didnt wipe down the area. Worst service. Beyond unhealthy. The beer glass that I had a few bugs on it and some green food what looked like broccoli. Was given another cold beer glass and was just as dirty. Just dropped off the kid at Great America and had to decide - fast food or go home and cook , but we were saved by Sizzler ! . As you all well know this joint is pretty predictable , but what I didn't expect was ......SERVICE! And these guys came thru our "waitress " was on the ball , the manager was on top of things - they had run out of ribs when I ordered and when I paid they were back on the menu and the manager quickly switched my cheaper plate for the ribs , no extra charge ! I don't go to this location very often unless it's on the way home or I'm taking a class at the UCSC Extension right down the street on Augustine Drive, but their Endless Salad Bar is pretty good. Prices start at $8.29 for lunch (until 4 PM) and $9.99 for dinner (plus tax). They don't have as many choices as some of the other locations in the SF Bay Area that I've also been to, but overall, it's not too shabby. Can't say that I'd order any of their other entrees, however. Their service is hit or miss, as some days that I come, it's kinda crappy. read more

Okay, I am in my early 30s and this week I visited Sizzler for the first time. I was totally confused on how it all worked, but figured it out after reading the huge signs posted that are there for people like me. The cashier lady wasn't friendly though. Argh. I just got a burger and it came with the salad bar. SALAD BAR: 5 STARS. YAY! Has everything you want, soup, and then this small appetizer section. Yumms. BURGER: Not good at all. All the fast food places are better. They over-cooked the burger by far, it tasted like charcoal, and the bun was a garlic bread bun. Yuck. I ended up just eating the patty to get my protein on. For a salad bar, it is pretty dang good (and priced what you should pay for a salad bar). Too bad I wasn't feeling like shrimp as I think that is what you need to come for. Came here after an early day at work for the salad bar. It's like a mini Fresh Choice. There were wings (didn't have any) and soups (I had a bland broccoli cheddar soup and added bacon bits) but best of all is the taco station. Definitely made myself a taco salad, super yum. I didn't partake in the desserts, they looked like they had been sitting out for a while and from the feedback from my friend, didn't taste very good either. Not sure if I would actually order a meal from here though (I'd rather cook my own steak and seafood). Our server was nice and attentive, I even got more soft mints when I asked for them. read more

Filthy! The floor was covered in crumbs of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Not just in the area around our table, but seemingly the entire restaurant. I realize that the Sizzler is hardly haute cuisine, and that it's a family place that caters to people with little kiddies who tend to make messes, but come on! There is no excuse for allowing a restaurant floor to be that filthy. It makes me wonder how they manage to keep roaches away... (or perhaps they don't... *shudder*) The food was fairly typical. Not horrible, yet also nothing to write home about. For the cost, it's probably better than average. I'm not ashamed to say that I like coming to Sizzler from time to time, if just for nostalgia's sake. I used to go to the one located in Daly City all the time with my folks, and it's pretty decent for what you're paying IMO. I started going to this Sizzler as it wasn't too far away from my friend's workplace, and we were both feening for their food one night. The one thing we were looking forward to (other than the decent steak and endless shrimp) was the salad bar. My friend and I are both fans of their appetizers, such as the wings and spaghetti. Also, there are the various soups and salad items which are typically fresh and tasty. I typically order one of the smaller steak and chicken dishes, and they're pretty decent I suppose. I really like the toast that comes with the dish, and for some reason I've always like the rice pilaf here. Granted, it's not as classy as other (more expensive) steak places, but hey, you get what you pay for, right? Once we're done with our dishes, we typically hang out for a bit just to chat (and digest all the food we ate). We've always gotten the feeling that our servers here were trying to get us to leave. It wasn't like we were staying for hours or anything either! I found this to be a little off-putting, and quite rude. Also, I should note that while I enjoy the various dishes you can get from the salad bar, I've found that their spaghetti noodles are almost ALWAYS overcooked. After many many years not going to Sizzlers. I was talked into going to Sizzlers about 1.5 to 2 years ago. I must say I do enjoy the salad bar and the entree i have chosen. My only pet peeve is that you have to ask for another plate to the salad bar and asking to have your entree to go. I can't do both salad and entree. I have asked on many occasions to have my entree to go and I have been told they don't do that or they do not have any to go boxes. I have heard that same line from Sacramento, Modesto, Mercede and even in San Jose. It is a well rehearsed script all waiters and waitress say. I eventually do get about 6 small Styrofoam container's on occasion l do get a big container. I prefer the larger container I feel silly walking out with a bundle of boxes. I want to give minus a star for the inconvenience. I have already given them 3 stars so I won't take away another star. Otherwise, service is OK. I have my entree held until I am ready for it. I don't care to have my entree served to me when I just sat down to eat my salad. I find that to very annoying and my entree get cold before I can get to it. Sizzlers does have many many special and the food is OK it is not top of the line but, it is far better than Denny's/Carrows and it is no Black Angus. The food is very decent :) read more

3 stars for the food, 1 star for the service. The food is typical Sizzler fare, the steak was cooked to the temp I ordered it and tasted good. The service was lacking though and should probably ding another star but I'll chalk it up as a one off. Our waitress was nearly non-existent other than to come around and collect plates we were done with. Never asked about additional drinks after I pounded down my $8 super sized Heiniken, and never offered us water. I used to love Sizzler. Their All You Can Eat Salad Bar was the best. Can't go wrong with chicken wings, meatballs, tacos, onion rings in addition to your salad. And their Cheese Toast? YUM!!! With the exception of the salad bar and cheese toast, my dinner was not that great. I had their Trio Sampler that consisted of steak, chicken and golden shrimp. The shrimp was burnt, the medium rare steak was more medium well and the chicken was a harden frozen Tyson chicken patty. The only thing edible was the baked potato. I only had a bite of each the steak and chicken. Thankfully I filled up at the salad bar. I should of gone with my gut instinct and had just the salad bar. My friend had the Shrimp Scampi. Been here a few times thru the years as my parents love Sizzler. Not sure what it is with the 60+ crowd but they them some sizzler. Staff is good, food is kept at temp, fresh and clean. They have great detail at their salad bar in which it's always stocked and kept clean. Refills are easy and the wait staff usually takes care if. Can't forget about their famous Cheesy Toad bread as thats always tasty. I'd add unlike some other sizzler's this one has full cold, hot and soup bar's. My kids took me to Sizzler for Father's Day I was very disappointed I hadn't been to the Sizzler in many years I'm sorry to say it hasn't changed I ordered the steak and lobster rare I got the steak totally cooked to death when I sent it back they sent me one rare but it was so tough I could barely chew it the salad bar was okay at best but the chicken look like that have been breaded in concrete what I'm trying to say is I thought by now this Sizzler would have upped its game but unfortunately the same ol Sizzler this is my opinion people might like Sizzler in myself and my family I will not be dining there again thank you for your time oh by the way the waitress food servers they're all excellent very friendly very fast in the service read more

It is what it is. I never get the steak... I think all they serve anymore is tri-tip, and I tried it once and did NOT like it. I do enjoy their Malibu Chicken (which I've loved since childhood, and the accompanying mayo/mustard mixture is one of my favorite dipping sauces that I make at home all the time.) Its...well...Sizzler Came here for lunch. Place was packed more than usual. Front end seemed like they were frazzled in dealing with the line. Server was attentive and polite. Kept checking on us through out our meal. Ordered the 6oz steak & baked potato with the house salad Lunch special. Steak was ok. Cut was pretty thin and didnt have much flavor, had to cover it in steak sauce. Salad was wet and tasted slightly dirty. I tried drenching the salad in ranch and pepper..didn't help much. My brother and I ate here last Sunday after we moved some furniture. Boy, we were hungry like wolves. We both got the salad bar and it was better than any buffet that I've been to. Way better than Fresh Choice or Sweet Tomato. In addition to your salad bar, they had fresh fruits such as bananas, pineapples, cantaloupes, honeydews, kiwis. There were 3 different kinds of soups and the clam chowder was really salty for my taste. The hot food section has crispy fried chicken wings, spaghetti, tacos, nachos, and some other stuff that I can't remember. All the items seem to be fresh, especially the fried chicken wings, which were exceptionally hot and tasty. The service was decent. Our waitress filled our waters a few times and brought us new plates to go to the salad bar but we had to ask for new plates on one occasion. For a buffet, this is a good as gets for the price. read more

Ok, so Sizzler is a chain, and they are all pretty much the same, I suppose. I DO LIKE the salad bar, but this review comes after several tries on the steak. They have the 1) classic steak 2) flat iron steak ( same thing as classic, but bigger ) 3) rib eye steak So I'm in the mood for steak ( I don't go to Sizzler unless I have to, and usually I just stick with the salad bar ), and decide I'm going all out and getting the ribeye steak for $16. ( I've had several of the flat iron and classic steaks, and was very disappointed ) Well, the ribeye steak was god-awfulm and burnt, so I sent i back for another, and the second was god-awful too. So lemme get into the details: 1) Their steaks seems to be of very low grade beef. Either it's from Grade B or Grade C beef, or it's composite beef. The texture is like nothing I have ever seen or tasted before, it just kinda tears and rips apart. You know when you get a turkey sandwich, and it's not real turkey like from Thanksgiving? It's turkey parts ground up and compressed into a "turkey meat"-like composition. SAME HERE WITH SIZZLER. 2) What's even more odd is that the steaks, no matter where you go, are NEVER COOKED EVENLY. They are well-done on the outside, but the inside is raw or uncooked. Further cooking only over cooks the outer portion, making it inedible. I don't get it. I've grilled tons of steaks, and never had this problem. Do they use special ovens? 3) I will NEVER get another steak from another Sizzler again... I have finally had it. read more

Want some restaurant style burger at a restaurant price? Well here it is. Their burgers are pretty good but why pay $8 if you can go down the street and go to IN N Out burgers? Steak and ribs are pretty decent also. This is a place to go if you have some kind of coupon or want to eat their salad bar which is ok. BF got the steak and endless shrimp. They give so much shrimp the first order I notice him along with most other people did not make it past round two. His steak was not all that great though. I love Sizzler! Been going to Sizzler my whole life. First time at this location in California. The foods a bit spicer. They had roasted jalepanos. And chicken tortilla soup I couldn't be happier. Very nice ambiance. Haven't been here in ages. We used a coupon for free malibu chicken. Asked about adding a salad bar for upcharge & guess what?? You don't get upcharged, you get charged up the wazoo! They charge you 11.99 for full salad bar. What the heck?? That's extremely ridiculous. I understand we didn't pay for the chicken but if I wanted to pay 11.99, I'd buy the malibu chicken at regular price (5.99) and then 4.99 for the upgrade. It still comes out cheaper than your 11.99.. sheesh! The food was pretty fresh and we got there late, around 8:30pm. So that was a plus. The place was clean and looked freshly wiped. Love the Sizzler chain in general. The food was good at this location, but they charged us double for an add on salad bar for my husband. We always split a meal and do an add on salad bar for him (I never eat the salad bar) and have only had to pay the $7 fee at every other Sizzler. When we asked the manager about it, he was apologetic but stated that was their policy and they wouldn't refund the difference. He said it was because we didn't get 2 meals. I don't see how this makes any sense whatsoever. Also the location was not clean, the floors had food on them that has been stepped all over and the bathroom smelled strongly of urine. We also had to seat ourselves and get our own drinks which isn't usually something we had experienced at the other franchises. Why isn't there more consistency with these restaurants? read more

Meat+seafood+salads! It's a hit or miss. Tuna salad tasted off-really off! Visited this place 2-3 days ago. While the pre made spinach salad with blueberries tasted really good that night, there were a couple of things that didn't taste right. The chicken soup was a bit too salty for my taste, so I just scooped out the carrots (so not to waste the whole soup) & ate it. The seafood "crab" salad too tasted off but not as much as the tuna. Always the fave: dinner rolls! Light, warm & fluffy! Chicken wings, onion rings(they were all soggy that day), fresh green salads that you put together, soft serve & the hard working servers/attendants (which sometimes forget about you because they have about 4-5 tables they have to take care of). The prices had gone up a bit; the dessert bar (& bathroom) can be tended to better..the serving spoon handles were sticky, it was a little bit of a mess. The bathroom, what can I say, I really have a pet peeve towards sticky floors. Just like the little lady walking out of the church from the movie : 16 candles! Squeak squeak, squeak. Classic! To people who are reading this, I think Sizzler's best dish in the salad bar buffet is the Clam Chowder. I also like the the chips. You can dip it in guacamole, salsa, or make nachos. It's delicious. Or you can make spaghetti The best dessert is either the red Jell-O, or the yummy and delicious tapioca pudding. The food here is fantastic. I don't know why, but this is the only Sizzler location that makes everything as good as I remember as a kid. If I were only rating this place on the food, I'd give it 4-5 stars. The only reason why I'm not giving this place more stars is because the service is inconsistent: If your server is the Asian guy who has been there for 10+ years, he is amazing and attentive and friendly. He brings you bread before you've asked for it, he brings you more shrimp before you've asked for it, he brings you To Go foil before you've asked for it, he refills your drinks before you've asked for it. If there is an owner or manager reading this review: Please, give this man a raise. I shouldn't even need to name him, you know of whom I speak. If your server is any of the women, good luck. Sometimes you get good ones, sometimes not. The last time I was there, 40% of my meal just never arrived no matter how many times I asked the waitress about it.
