We came here with little expectations and it turned out to be great. We had reservations for 6:00 on a Saturday and it wasn't busy. I'm surprised I've never heard about this place. We had a Groupon deal so we gave this place a try. We had French onion soup, braised bacon, creamed spinach, scallops and shrimp, tomahawk steak, filet mignon, cheesecake, and creme brûlée. Everything was delicious except the tomahawk was a bit dry and tough. The food came out quite fast and service was good. The lighting wasn't too dim so it wasn't putting us to sleep. The place does look classy and romantic. The restrooms are located outside the restaurant. I will be coming back soon! Be sure to check in on yelp for a free glass of wine with purchase of an entree! But can't be used with other deals.

What a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Only in town to catch a plane the following morning and checking into the Doubletree and saw Spencers as we checked in. On this Thursday night, there was no waiting and the three of us we quickly seated. The meals were very good and the service was terrific. I will be back in town in February and will use the Doubletree again.

Located in the Doubletree San Jose, Spencer's offers the expected cuts of beef, as well as seafood, pork, chicken, etc. they are currently open only three days a week. Prices seem moderate to slightly high. I had the pork tenderloin (comes with farrow, tomato's, and broccoli) and Spencer's mash (hash browns), which were tasty. All in all, a decent meal if the atmosphere is a bit unmemorable.

Stopped in here by happenstance when we missed our reservations for another restaurant. Upscale and modern with a decent bar but as with most $$$$ restaurants at this level, my taste buds were expecting a much more elevated experience. I had the opportunity to take a bite out of the crab and lobster cake, prawn cocktail special and the octopus. Out of the 3, the clear winner was definitely the crab and lobster cake. Decent portion with chunks of lobster dressed with a creamy aioli sauce. Octopus was too overcooked and slightly chewy while the prawns looked more like baby shrimp. For my entree, I ordered the scallops with orzo. Surely not bad but I definitely wouldn't call it innovative. It was very much 3 jumbo sized pan seared scallops lying on a bed of orzo. We added a few sides for the heck of it and quickly realized our Brussels sprouts were only half cooked. The French fries were a nice guilty treat though. There you have it. Make what you will from it. If you check in, you can get a free glass of wine! That's a plus ;)

This review is long over due since we went about 3 weeks ago. My bf had been craving steak so I found a deal on Groupon. Yelp had mixed reviews so I wasn't sure what to expect. The bread with the salted butter was yummy. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was so savory that it just melts in your mouth. I got the wedge salad which wasn't super impressive but the bacon on it was absolutely amazing! So crispy. For sides we got the Spencer's hash browns, brussel sprouts and mushrooms. All were delicious but the hash are definitely a must. Although 3 sides was plenty. The service was great so I don't see why the low reviews. I can't wait to return.

Overall a great dining experience. My BF and I went with three other couples for New Year's Eve dinner. A 4-course pre-fixe menu was offered for the night. The look and feel of Spencer's was cozy and inviting. Our servers were polite and helpful. The food was delicious. 5 stars for the food (Black and Bleu Mussels, Lobster Bisque, Filet Mignon Oscar, Berry Tartlet) -1/2 star for adult beverages (a nice restaurant should not use maraschino cherries in their Manhattan's) -1/2 star for the temperature (it was freezing in the restaurant!)

Gourmet American. Pumpkin squash soup had a crushed spindle of pumpkin seeds scattered on the surface. Ahi tuna wonton appetizer consisted of a mini bowl of marinated ahi tuns topped with a mild avocado spread . Huge homemade warm wontons. Beet and root salad. See picture. Had a great beer pate topping. Warm fresh out of the oven bread with a salted butter tin. Service was fast and friendly despite the demanding customer crowd.

I had a good experience at a Spencer's Steakhouse years back in Salt Lake City and decided to go the one in San Jose. It is located in the Doubletree Hotel near the San Jose Airport. Nice open high ceiling circular room. The table were nicely spced, not to close. The service was old school with all of the waiters wearing white jackets. 22 oz. Spencer's medium rare was excellent. Mushroom risotto with arugela was rich and creamy. Wedge salad had huge pieces of bacon. Dinner was excellent. Service was excellent. Plenty of Validated parking.

Came by for dinner the other night and must admit that I was not impressed... We started off the meal with a bunch of appetizers. The calamari was over-cooked and came out rubbery. The seared ahi tuna didn't seem fresh and was bland. Ordered a filet mignon medium rare and the steak came out medium. The steak itself was also bland and could have used additional seasoning. The crab topping was uneventful and superfluous. The desserts were also uneventful. They seemed very normal, for a Chili's or Applebee's as the portions were huge...quantity over quality. There was also a huge heaping of whip cream for each dessert... Service throughout our meal was mediocre. Despite having our parking validated by the restaurant, the gate still requested for $2?!? ...for the amount of money spent...I would suggest going to Alexander's in Cupertino...

3.5 stars, came here with family for dinner - we had a groupon of $200 for 4. Ordered crisp calamari as an appetizer. Calamari was really good, but it had a mediterranean twist, so it came with a bunch of extras like olives, cheese, cucumber, and sprouts. There were more extras than there was calamari. I personally prefer just calamari, but my parents enjoyed the dish as a whole. Mom also ordered french onion soup. I didn't taste it though, so I'm unsure of how it was Parents got red wine to pair with their steak. Idk anything bout wine but ye My sister and I each ordered a ribeye and my mom and dad split a Porterhouse. We also ordered 3 accompaniments (any 3 for $24 or you can order individual ones) which included the Potato Mousseline, Creamed Spinach, and Sautéed Mushrooms. All three tasted great, but my favorite was the Potato Mousseline. So creamy and garlicky!! My Ribeye was cooked nicely, bur it was rather salty. It tasted fine when I ate it with the 3 sides, but it would've been too salty to eat if we didnt order the sides. It was filling, and I took half my steak to-go. Waitress was nice and thoughtful, and she packed my Mom's french onion soup togo, even though we weren't expecting her to (my mom didnt finish it and wasn't trying to take it home). My only gripe about the place is that they offered us sparkling water and some fancy bottled water without telling us it was $10/bottle. We assumed it was free, but when they gave us the check, it was $20 total for the water we drank! It would've been nice to mention that it wasn't complimentary, but I guess it's our fault for not asking... After walking out, we grabbed some of the Andes mints they offer at the hostess' stand. All in all, it was a decent experience, but nothing to write home about.. except for the potato mousseline omg so amazing. It's nice for special occasions.

Spencer's was amazing, we had the Porterhouse steak with Asparagus, Spencer's hash browns and the Crab Mac n Cheese. The Porterhouse was served table side and was juicy and well seasoned, the crab mac and cheese was hot and crab filled, Spencer's signature hash browns were incredibly tasty and the fresh roasted asparagus rounded out a extremely pleasant dinner. The service was outstanding, I can't express how friendly and great the staff is, we highly recommend Spencer's.

I decided to have my belated birthday dinner with my husband and older son at the restaurant last Saturday (4/21). We got to the restaurant for a 6pm reservation and was quickly seated. Then again, the place wasn't busy just yet. Our waitress took our order in a timely manner but the service went downhill from there. For appetizer, we ordered the braised bacon appetizer with figs and herbs, which was cooked well and juicy. My son really liked it. For dinner, I ordered the lamb chop and my husband got the prime rib. For our sides, we had potatoes, glazed carrots and brussel sprouts. My son got mac and cheese. We started noticing that the service was lacking during our dinner. It seemed like it was taking some time to get our food. Also, our server didn't check with us if everything was good when our food did arrive. By then, it started getting busy around 7pm by then. Maybe they were short staffed since I didn't see that many waiters. There were times that we were sitting around after we were done before our server came back. We did order the neapolitan cheesecake for dessert. Again, it took some time before we got the dessert. After finishing the dessert, we were left waiting for the server so we can get the check. Get this, we had the card out and ready while each of us took turns to go to the bathroom. Both times, the server didn't come with the check. When we were finally done, we left the restaurant past 8pm. It took us about 2 hours for dinner but most of that was waiting around. Overall the food was good and I would consider coming back if the service was better.

I walked in and stood waiting to be seated while an employee, who appeared to be the owner or manager, continued talking with her kids instead of acknowledging customers. I don't mind waiting, but a simple "We'll be right with you" would have made all the difference. I decided to give them another chance. On a later visit, I spent a few hours working there and ordered drinks. When a friend joined me, he sat down and was completely ignored. No one came over to greet him or ask if he'd like anything. We eventually had to flag someone down just so he could place an order. After that, our server mentioned that Tuesdays were buy one, get one free on wine. I ordered my second glass, but it never arrived. When I asked another server about it, I was made to feel like I was inconveniencing them. The irony is that I would have happily paid full price--I wasn't the one asking for a deal. They were the ones who brought up the promotion, then acted bothered when I politely asked about the wine that was never delivered. The final straw was our most recent visit. We were seated at a table by the staff, only to be told a few minutes later that we had to move because the tables were supposedly reserved for the party sitting behind us. We moved without making an issue of it, but no one ever ended up using those tables for the entire time we were there. It was frustrating to be relocated after being seated, especially when the explanation didn't match what actually happened. At this point, it's hard to view these experiences as isolated incidents. The common theme has been inattentive service and an attitude that makes customers feel like they're an inconvenience rather than guests. There are too many great wine bars that genuinely appreciate their customers for me to spend any more time or money here.

We also got the rosemary & prosciutto pizza, which looks pretty unassuming at first but is actually so good. Pro-tip: save the extra crust and use it with your charcuterie.
