I've never done a sizzling plate from a Japanese restaurant before. I've had Korean before but there were no rice but meat on the sizzling plate. I tried their garlic pepper beef sizzling plate with an egg added on. It took me 3 minutes to stir it up as I'm not use to stirring over a sizzling plate. It's been a while since I've eaten out, but sometimes you just can't stop cravings. You don't need to call ahead to reserve a spot for outdoor dining. Instead, you'll have to order and pay at the front before taking a seat. You can seat yourself at one of the tables set-ups outside. There were a couple of tables for 2 people and a couple of tables for parties of 4. It doesn't look like they can accommodate for any parties larger than that (hopefully they won't have to with the current state). The utensils were placed once we were seated and water comes in a disposable cup. The server will bring out to-go containers of the teriyaki and garlic shoyu sauce. Our orders didn't take too long to come out, but I do wish that the plates were a bit hotter so the rice and udon would crisp more. I found that the amount of teriyaki sauce was perfect, but I'd go easy on the garlic shoyu. I was too excited to eat and made the mistake of dumping it all in one go, which made my udon too salty. I came here today with a group of 6, which included a baby. There was some open tables outside, but due to the heat we asked for indoor seating. Due to this, wait was about 20 mins. I must say, although we were inside with some AC I was still sweating during my stay. I mean.. I was legit sweating.. even before the food came. Came for dinner on a Friday and loved the ambiance inside - lively and lots of late 2000s and early 2010s throwback playlist songs aka Justin Bieber's Baby and Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind. The food was great - I got the garlic beef pepper rice and paid extra for an egg and kimchi. They serve the beef raw on a hot stone-like plate and you mix it while it cooks. There's also some sweet sauce you add on top. With the kimchi and egg, it reminded me of dolsot bibimbap but with no spice and with a sweeter taste. I loved leaving the rice on the bottom untouched so it could get crispy. Mixing all the condiments together was a nice medley in my mouth. I think if I didn't add all the extra sides I probably would've got tired of the same taste of just meat and rice. The sizzling sounds and aromas were like music and perfume to my nose and ears, everything smelled fantastic and the sizzling just made my mouth water. After I put all the sauce and toppings on the rice I mixed everything up and took a big spoonful into my mouth. The sauces definitely added a lot more flavor to the beef and overall taste of the dish. There was corn, green onions, and spicy topping that you really had to mix up. WOAH, this place was popping off on a Thursday late afternoon. I went to Sizzling Lunch for dinner with a big group of friends, and I had a great experience. I'm so happy I gave Sizzling Lunch another chance ( I tried other locations, and it was very subpar). The check-in process was pretty easy and standard for a new restaurant. You check in on the iPad, and wait for them to call you back. The server kindly warned me that for a big group, the wait would be around 30 minutes, and said he recommends that we sit outside. I was a bit concerned about outdoor seating at first, but he said he is more than willing to bring out a gas heater. I am very pleased that they were able to accommodate my group of friends! I got the Curry Beef Rice With Cheese. With the yelp first check-in, I added an egg on top. The food tasted great (be sure to ask for the sauce condiments - it makes a huge difference to how it tastes) and the proportion was large. I thought this plate would come with actual curry, but it was just the curry powder. But, it still tasted good otherwise! I liked that they had a paper-based wrap around the pot so the food doesn't spill out of your plate. One of my friends got the Cheese Fries, and I had to snatch some to try. The cheese fries were really good. I liked the chili mayo they used. It wasn't that spicy though but gave the fries a sweet and creamy taste with the cheese on top. Parking was decent. This restaurant is located in a plaza with other eats and a big gym. I was able to get parking pretty fast on a weekday, but I can imagine how hectic it can be during those rush hours. The only thing I was not satisfied with was the fact that garlic butter was an additional fee. Typically, this does not cost anything at other teppanyaki restaurants like Sizzling Lunch so it was a bit weird. The amount of garlic butter was very little too. read more

I've been to Sizzling Lunch a few times before pre-pandemic and enjoyed it. I decided to come here for a solo lunch with my dog as they have dog-friendly outdoor seating. There's a QR code to scan to look at the menu, but you go inside to order and pay. The server noticed I was getting up to leave my dog and have her stay outside, so she offered to help put my order in so I wouldn't have to leave my dog outside alone. So kind of her! I opted for the spicy garlic beef rice this time, which is a newer item. I definitely could taste the spice in it. The ingredients are thrown on a sizzling plate, and YOU do all the mixing. What also helped with the fast turnaround was that halfway through our meal, a server put our tab on the table. She said that there was no rush, but I got what she was putting down... don't dilly-dally for too long at the table. We ordered a side of kimchi, takoyaki and chicken curry udon with egg to share. I enjoyed everything for the most part. The takoyaki was great, and I thought that the size of the balls were bigger than I'm used to. The curry udon with chicken was bland until I threw in some the seasonings (i.e. table-side himalayan salt, black pepper, and chili powder). The garlic shoyu was nice with the curry, but the kimchi really enhanced it. What I also liked about the kimchi was how freshly made it tasted. This place is packed during lunch! The food is very filling (usually leave with a food baby) and delicious. They all come out in sizzling stone plates and a paper around it to prevent you from burning yourself. You let the rice sizzle in the hot plate for a few minutes and it gets really crispy. The salmon rice can get a bit over cooked and sticks to the bottom so it wasn't my favorite. I definitely preferred the rice over noodles since the rice can get crispy and it made the dish that much better. The garlic shot sauces provided are also really good. Staff service was also great! We usually either get the pork and the beef rice (with the garlic chips) and it's a great solid meal. The corn cheese appetizer is super yummy and the chicken is nicely fried. Ambience is very casual, and occasionally has EDM music playing in the background. They have iPads at every indoor table so you can order your own food. Outdoor seating with umbrellas is also available when it's a nice day out. Definitely recommend for a filling and affordable lunch. read more

Ordering occurs at the door, which I liked a lot, so you could order quickly, and then go to your seats and await your food. Of note, ordering is done on an iPad at the newer Fremont location, so it does seem to vary from location to location. As additions to our meal, the table already had garlic shoyu sauce, teriyaki sauce, and chili powder--all were delicious, and we used all of them quite a bit with our food. What We Ordered: - Garlic beef rice w/ egg (5/5): always get the egg! The beef was perfect; it was juicy, flavorful, and thinly sliced. The rice absorbed the flavor of the beef well, along with the sauces mentioned above. - Garlic beef udon (4/5): For some reason, I feel like this wasn't as strongly infused with flavor as the rice was, but this was still delicious! This is really more like a 4.5 star rating, but the service is great, and I do like the ordering format of this Sizzling Lunch. There are about 20 tables including outside seatings, fully occupied, and yet there are only two servers; one young guy and another young girl (I did not get their names). Pretty clean and bright restaurant. I liked the higher ceilings bc it makes me feel less trapped, except it was loud since everything echoed. Waitress came as soon as I walked in, and kindly seated me right away. Checking in this place is easy but always very busy here on weekends and weekdays. It goes by pretty fast as the food comes out hella fast! They clean up pretty fast, too! Hahaha Simple menu so it's easy to order. They do serve some drinks and beer. My hubby and I ordered the garlic beef plate with extra kimchi and extra fried egg. It comes with the herb butter but with all the garlic on top, I almost didn't see it. I will have to ask for extra next time as I thought it was too small of a portion for all the meat it came with.
