Really underwhelming. I ordered a House Mary and Banana Bread French Toast. The drink was the best part. The French toast had hardly any custard batter and simply tasted like hot banana bread. Absolutely nothing special about it. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy, candied bacon, and coffee. The biscuits were an odd consistency. They crumbled almost as soon as you touched them with a fork. The gravy had an odd sweetness to it rather than the typical peppery taste that comes with a white gravy accompanied with sausage. The candied bacon was a miss too. Candied bacon should be nice and crisp while this was rather floppy. The sugar coasting really overpowered any other flavors including the macadamia nuts sprinkled on the top. The coffee tasted like old, burnt gas station coffee. I first heard about this restaurant when we went to Portland a few years ago. Unfortunately, it was not one of our stops and I've always felt a little sad on the inside for not giving it a try...so you can imagine how excited I was when I found out that the Maui location was within walking distance of our hotel! Five stars mainly because it's a fun place to eat and the food/service was good. The have table top grills and you can make your own pancakes if you desire. We opted for traditional service. My wife had the Hawaiian pancakes while I pieced together a more tradition breakfast of eggs, rice and Portuguese sausage. The only off putting issue I had was I needed to order everything for my breakfast from the ala carte section. The price worked out about the same as anywhere else but I thought most customers might not think to order this way. We arrived early in the morning and had a short wait time. Came here for our last day in Maui! After we're seated they gave us instructions. We deceived to go with one bottle of batter per person ($8) . We got 2 chocolate and 2 buttermilk. Well, we were a little apprehensive to go there because we are grandparents and it looks like it's mostly for families with kids. They let the kids make their own pancakes at the table. The line outside waiting was large, but it only took about 10mins to get seated even though they said 30min wait. There is a bar that is first come first serve. Both excellent! Would recommend. Especially for vegetarians. The location is conveniently across from the Kaanapali beach club resort where we stayed. The waiter was very very helpful to all the patrons who were chatty with him. He left us as an after after thought and that became quite frustrating when we were trying to head out to our next destination and we had to wait almost 15-20 mins to get our card back from the check. I asked a worker to get his attention and that did basically nothing. Dont know his name but he had a long blonde ponytail and was tall and thin. I returned this morning in hopes something might have improved, and this time I had them cook the pancakes (blueberry tart). Again, disappointing. Heavy and tasteless. I was hoping for light and fluffy. Worst of all, I was surprised to find they charged me a 3% kitchen service fee to cook the pancakes. What restaurant charges extra to cook the food? The waitress tried to tell me that many Maui restaurants are charging for this. Right. What a great breakfast to start our trip! We have two kids (9 and 5) so pancakes are always a request! And the treat of a griddle in table and their are the cooks was priceless to them! The servings of fillings were bountiful and we ended up snacking on small handfuls of the chips after the batter was gone. The pancakes turned out very tasty. Only complaint in this department was the chocolate after was a bit thick and hard to squeeze out for the grownups, let alone my 5 year old. But she has no complaint on taste. Both of the kids created designs and asked my wife and I to chip in for exciting creations. They both also got full! That is a great compliment in itself as kids rarely eat all their food. The coconut syrup was ridiculously good, I was drenching my pancakes in it and I'm not usually a syrup person. I got the seasonal bananas cinnamon oatmeal pancakes with banana and coconut toppings, boyfriend is a traditionalist and just did buttermilk batter and syrup.
