Did a personal curated pizza tour last Friday March 7th in Oakland/Berkeley area and went to 4 pizza spots. This was stop #2. What caught my eye was the number of reviews, stars, and the green sauce in the pictures. My thoughts went straight to.... this looks just like cheese board. Like cheese board, they do pizza of the day. There was no one here on a Friday afternoon which was off putting. I got one slice but it really came with 2 decent sized slices. It was nice that it was freshly made. I loved the toppings on this particular day. The pizza was good! I liked how it had a crust that held up on its own and they did not skimp on the cheese. Honestly really good pizza. Still doesn't beat cheese board, but definitely up there on my pizza list. Friendly staff, clean bathroom and A+ for their music selection. They had on bachata which had me dancing while eating my slice of fresh pizza. read more

We haven't grabbed a pie at Sliver in a while and part of the reason is that often the pie of the day isn't something we crave. Tonight we stopped by and they had mushrooms, feta, mozzarella, red onions red sauce etc and we went for it. Lot of pizza for $30 and I like that they toss extra slices on top - we couldn't barely eat half of it so we packed it to go. They have gotten kinda restrictive with water cups and those teenie tiny containers for the green and red dipping sauces - which is ridiculous. A thorough wipe down of tables would also be appreciated and the guy who sat there playing their piano loud and badly our entire meal was also not a welcome addition to what was a good pizza. This spot is pretty quick and simple - you order at the counter and eat wherever you want. They also serve wine and salads. Their team also believes in the "field to table" concept and focuses in sourcing fresh produce ingredients. This location is more spacious than the previous one at Center Street. With the move, it joined a lot of eateries along Telegraph Avenue. If we're nearby, we always check the Pizza of the Day from their website. Cremini mushroom and corn are the ingredients that we always keep an eye on. If they're available, then there's a big chance we will come. i'm heartbroken. no actually i'm pissed. i have been coming to sliver for over 10 years and I legit considered it one of my favorite restaurants of all time. today i walked in and just immediately was so off put by the drastic changes they have made. they have completely abandoned their entire business model of having one kind of pizza per day, that was always beautifully crafted with care. instead you can order whatever the hell you want now like waffle fries??? wings??? why are they serving weird ass meat pizzas now. don't get me wrong- i actually eat meat. but that's not what i come here for. it feels like a completely different restaurant. it's tacky. it's tasteless. the pizza tasted awful it was a complete grease ball oil bomb that flapped like a writhing fish right out of my hand. an abomination. an obscene scene right here in berkeley. one less reason to move back here i guess. read more

Big spacious inside with lots of Halloween decor already! They have a pizza flavor of the day which is pretty cool. The slices are fairly thin, and this one came with an amazing dipping sauce - tangy with lime and cilantro. Made for a great picnic meal. Ordered two and they came out pretty fast! There's options for parking along the street and nearby, but it is pretty filled up so you might have to drive by multiple spots to find a lot with an opening, especially on game day for Berkeley. read more

When I was a young undergrad working on campus at the Graduate Assembly, we'd often have events that necessitated vast amounts of vegan/vegetarian friendly food that was delicious. Funny enough, now years after graduation, this might be my actual first time dining in and paying for the food with my own money. I usually must have meat with my meals, but Sliver's daily rotating menu of pizzas are so good, that I'm willing to go vegetarian just because the combinations are so perfect. Sliver pizza rivals Cheeseboard and I love Cheeseboard so I was excited to try this. Somehow when I went to Berkeley, Cheeseboard was doing a corn pizza, and the following day Sliver was! I bought Sliver to take home on my road trip down to SoCal. I didn't eat it until a few hours later in the car, and I thought it was good. The next day I reheated Cheeseboard and Sliver and I ate Sliver first. It was a solid pizza, but Cheeseboard still takes it for me because Sliver's cheese blend just isn't as good. The pros for Sliver are that the wait is short so you're only expected to wait 10-15 minutes while the Cheeseboard line is long, but they move fast. Also, don't expect Sliver's green sauce to taste like Cheeseboard. It tastes more like salsa and isn't spicy either. Their red sauce is good too! My first time here, happy to report that they do give extra slices at this location! I heard they don't at the EB location. It was a bit crowded on Sat night but not too loud and was still able to snag a table. The green sauce is really good (almost like chimmichurri?), the orange had a sweet spicy kick to it. I tried their chocolate chip cookie once before, but it was okay. They have a green sauce and a red/orange sauce. I prefer the red/orange sauce because it's slightly spicy and not as strong as the green sauce. Since covid started, Sliver no longer has the green cilantro lime sauce available for self serve. As a result, they provide the sauce in these tiny containers and limit how many you can get depending on how many slices you order. It's extremely unfortunate because for an entire pizza, they only gave us 5 tiny containers, but gave someone who ordered 2 slices, 2 containers. When I brought the pizza to the car it was piping hot and crisp and I was here for it!! The pizza that we got had squash, small tomatoes, corn and basil pesto. It was thin, crispy and very delicious. I have been a customer at Sliver for the past ten years, back when I was a college student (has it been that long?!). Their original location was in downtown Berkeley, and their prices were always so affordable for my budget. I also enjoyed the live music. Later on as they expanded to multiple locations, I particularly enjoyed eating at the Telegraph location given its proximity to campus and large amount of seating. Overall, the pizza is good. I like eating it with the Dang Butterscotch Root Beer. Each location might have a different pizza of the day, so if you're picky regarding your toppings, I recommend looking on their website for each location's menu. I particularly like the pizzas with corn toppings. An area for improvement would be for the roasted cremini mushroom recipe, which in my opinion is a bit too oily.
