I had the pulled pork, a dish I often have in Hawaii and I found it to be quite good. They have some Asian dishes as well and a couple of people had the pad thai and thought it was very good. Everyone in our group seemed to really like their meal. You can order Hawaiian rolls with your meal for an additional price if you wish but mine wasn't real fresh. The portions are large and prices are reasonable. It's a casual place-a bit difficult to find-I drove past it and so did a couple of others. Solid Grindz cooks up some really delicious Hawaiian BBQ. Ive tried most everything on the menu from their incredible pulled pork to their dynamite ribs and I gotta say, it's all great. A couple of my favorites include the Chicken Katsu and the Pork ribs. Each entree is served with white rice and some creamy delicious mac salad. The prices are very fair and you can get out with a 2 entree plate for just around $10. I will say though, the 3 entree plate isnt the best value. They use the same size container for the 1, 2, and 3 entree plates so you get less of each entree the higher up you go. Regardless, this is a happening spot for sure. The lines can be really long on weekdays during prime lunch hours (11-1) but worth the wait. Highly recommend!!! read more

Best Hawaiian food ever. Visited the islands many times and this is as authentic as it gets. The combo 3 meat plate is incredible. The teriyaki chicken was tender and juicy, the Bang Bang shrimp was delicious and the Kalbi ribs were cooked perfectly. The meal came with two sides and I tried the rice and Mac salad. The taste on the Mac was slightly sweet and surprisingly good. The service staff was friendly and welcoming. I also liked the cleanliness of the dinning area. Parking is horrendous, but even with that it is worth going to. I have figured out the times when I can get one of the two handicapped spots. The food is decently priced for the portion size. The add on option is well worth it. I like the bang bang shrimp and also the other shrimp dish they have. The chicken katsu is really good as well as the teriyaki. It comes with two sides, I always get tuna Mac and rice. Both are very good. My only complaint is the tuna Mac gets heated with the hot food next to it. When I take it to go, that doesn't help. I would prefer it packed separate so it's cold and if eaten at the place, separated some how. It is a small pet peeve of mine and really not a huge deal. They have a counter with the sauces which are very good. They also have the little to go containers so you can easily take the sauce home. We were looking for something new to try and decided to look up Hawaiian food. We saw this location had good stars. It was good food. The sauce on my Kalua pulled pork was good. I really did like the tuna Mac salad. The lady taking our order at the register seemed like she would rather be anywhere else so that was off putting. I grew up in the islands and the Kalua pork and Mac salad here are great. Mochiko chicken on the other hand is more like popcorn chicken; small pieces and mostly batter with a sweet chili sauce on it. Taste isn't bad as long as you weren't expecting anything close to actual mochiko chicken. Very disappointing. Call this dish anything else, just not mochiko chicken. Katsu was pretty typical, but some pieces were a bit thin thus got a bit dry. Katsu sauce seems housemade and is not as sweet as l&l which I appreciated. I always ate at this place's food truck on base whenever i got the chance. Way better than "that other" Hawaiian BBQ joint here in town. They have a great variety on the menu and authentic Hawaiian dishes some I haven't seen in the states except back in Hawaii. Let me tell you prices are as great as the food. Tucson is lucky to have this gem, right outside of Davis Monthan AFB. It has a cult following, you cannot find a better classic Hawaiian plate lunch in this state. Great Hawaiian Food that was fresh, tasty and moderately priced. The Restaurant: The restaurant used to be an Asian-style restaurant so remnants of its past were still present but don't let that fool you from the food. This is a fast-casual style where you order first at a counter then sit down and they bring your food. There is fountain drink control on the inside. I did not get to check out the restrooms to observe their cleanliness. Food: The food was excellent. We ordered a myriad of food including the Katsu, the pork, the chicken teriyaki and the wings. All was extremely fresh. I do wish the scoops of rice were slightly bigger but other than that, everything was excellent. Overall: It is a good place to eat, easy to find, prices were moderate and was visually clean. Should you go: Yes I would give it a shot. This place is nice to have as it competes with one of the well known Hawaiian places in town. Cost: For the Teriyaki chicken, pork, katsu, wings and three drinks, it came out to about $36. The ribs were alright, I thought they were a tad too sweet on the sauce. The redeemer for me for Solid Grindz is the Loco Moco. A beef patty that was about 2 inches or more at its thickest point on rice topped with gravy and a egg, garnished with garlic bits. You want a meal, they'll give you one. I thoroughly enjoyed the Loco Moco, but if there was a little less gravy, it would be a perfect meal in my eyes, but overall, Solid! I needed either a hard labor day at work or simply a nap after this meal, it was hearty!
