Overall it was pretty good. Nothing crazy. The custard filled waffle was just okay. It didn't have a ton of flavor. The ice cream was silky smooth but kind of one note on the flavor. I got the pistachio/oreo swirl and it didn't really taste like pistachio or Oreo lol it was just kind of vanilla. Worth a try, but I would go out of my way to get it again. There was a line, but the service moved fast and didn't take long at all. The tables are all very sticky and dirty, so be careful when you sit down.
Tried the ice cream and it's so smooth and creamy! they give you sooo much too ! You can actually ask for less ice cream which is nice to know. I got the ube and pistachio flavors. The pistachio kinda threw me off because it wasn't green and I didn't taste any pistachio flavor. The ube was def good. It came with a free topping of either strawberry or macaroon. I got the macaroon and topped my ice cream with biscoff which paired great ! Also couldn't leave without ordering the oreo filled taiyaki. Parking lot is super small, but was lucky enough to nab a spot. Service was very kind and there's a little standing bar area along the wall. It looked like a connected cafe next door with some seating.
This place never disappoints! Got their flavor of the month which was a delicious cookies and cream matcha swirl and it was incredible! Extremely creamy and delicious, a true soft serve. The waffle cone was filled with matcha custard, which was perfectly sweet and slightly bitter. I decided to top the ice cream with Oreo dust, which was the cherry on top. Always lovely customer service.
Normally love somi Somis ice cream, but tried their Dubai chocolate taiyaki, and found it significantly underwhelming. The flavor of the Dubai chocolate wasn't really there and would not get this again. Would instead get their ice creams!
Stopped by Somisomi for a quick late night treat. The prices are great for the servings, it's a lot of ice cream. We got our ice cream pretty quickly. The staff were okay. It was loud inside and we ate our ice cream outside where they had some tables with benches. The ice cream was delicious and very creamy. I ordered the matcha and cookies n cream swirl which was a good combo.
Love Somi Somi! We always get the upside down ahboong cookies n cream or ube swirl with nutella filling We also get the taiyaki to go so it's fresh :) Parking lot is usually busy so keep that in mind. My fav part about this place is the toppings are included with your purchase. There's biscoff, Oreo, fruity pebbles, macaron, coconut flakes, and captain crunch. Quick service and ambiance is nice but they only offer seating outside. There's a standing area inside. This is my go-to for dessert in Convoy!
I was lured into SomiSomi for their Dubai Chocolate taiyaki. SomiSomi is a popular Korean dessert shop known for their fish-shaped waffle cones and taiyaki filled with fun flavors. I'm not sure if it was just a busy Friday night or the hype around the new Dubai Chocolate flavor, but the line was out the door. I have also been to the location in Mira Mesa, and this Convoy location is noticeably smaller since it shares space with another cafe. Due to the size, they offer fewer flavors here which was a bit of a bummer. Still, I was mainly there for the taiyaki so I didn't mind too much. I ordered the 5 taiyaki combo which lets you choose from flavors like matcha custard, custard, cheddar, red bean, Nutella, Oreo, and black sesame. The limited-time flavors were mint Oreo and the Dubai Chocolate, with the Dubai Chocolate costing an extra $1.95 per taiyaki. Our total came out to a little over $14. The taiyaki batter is really satisfying. It's cooked in a waffle-style press which gives it a crispy exterior while the inside stays soft and slightly chewy. I do wish they had a way to label the taiyakis because it ended up being a game of Taiyaki roulette, trying to find which was what without having to investigate it too much. I know other locations mark it on the box in relation to its order in the box. I loved the cheddar filling because it almost tasted like a grilled cheese inside a waffle. The red bean tasted authentic and not overly sweet. The Oreo filling was literally a whole Oreo pressed in the middle. The Dubai Chocolate was easily my favorite of the night. Usually Dubai chocolate desserts can lean way too chocolate-heavy and overly sweet, but the filling here had a really nice balance between pistachio and chocolate. Combined with the crunch from the kataifi and the chewy taiyaki batter, it ended up being a really fun and satisfying treat.
Somisomi is known the their really cute fish shaped waffles called taiyaki. These are waffles that can be filled with your favorite fillings such as custard, red bean, matcha paste, black sesame paste, or Nutella. They're absolutely delicious hot off the griddle! It's also great when you add a hallow fish "bongsoo" on top of your soft serve!
Cheap and amazing! A little taste of heaven how can anyone go wrong with this for not even 7 bucks heck yeah! Service is counter service and it was a great place. 10000% coming back here
Tried the matcha and cookies and cream this time around, and they offered me a free topping of a fresh strawberry. The ice cream (custard?) is still good and super smooth. The employees are always very nice and they give you a lot of ice cream for the price. Parking is in a lot shared with other business but my friend and I managed to grab two spots on a Monday evening. There are places to stand by the window and some to sit in the cafe next door (inside and connected to Somi Somi). Pleased that it's still this good 4 years later.
Very tasty soft serve ice cream. Super nice. Expensive for the amount you get but it was nice as a treat. Taiyaki is one of my favorite Japanese desserts but got the one where it sits on top of the icecream. Great pastry though not much filling inside if you ask for it when it's on the ice cream. Busy locations, usually filled with young teens. Pretty loud inside as well but if you aren't spending too much time here that's fine.
What a fun place for dessert! Finally tried it for the first time as it was always on my list to try. We had an early dinner on a week night, so came here around 6pm and there was hardly a line. We looked at the menu and had a hard time deciding. Soft serve which is a 3 step process: 1) You pick the type you want - with or without the fish waffle 2) There are 6 flavors of soft serve to pick from (I think some flavors are on rotation) and thank goodness banana pudding was an option because that was our immediate choice and it was DELICIOUS!!!! 3) Filling - 4 flavors for the fish waffle When it's ready, you get to choose the topping which was oreo for us. We shared one as two people can really share one and I only wanted a few spoonfuls to sample. Taiyaki - fish waffle with filling Do you get 2 for $4.95 or 5 for $9.75? I really wanted to try this so got one with custard filling (8 filling flavors to select from). I had to wait 5 minutes but when you get it, it's piping hot - so hot that you can't hold it so had to wait for it to cool in the take out box. It did not disappoint. Crispy waffle with creamy filling. It hit the spot! What's not to like!
This has to be the most popping SomiSomi in San Diego! Came here for dessert on a Friday night and the line was out the door and around the corner. I ordered the ube flavored soft serve and the custard filled taiyaki. They let you add free toppings which is a nice touch. I added fruity pebbles and a macaron. The soft serve is solid and not too sweet which I liked. I really enjoyed the taiyaki bites that had custard filling - it was absolutely creamy and delicious. However, it felt like more bites than not didn't have filling which was disappointing. Service was quite efficient especially considering the volume of customers serviced. There is plenty of seating at the tables and standing room at the side bar.

Best soft serve in San Diego!!!! They have 4 rotating flavors, this one was the ube, and it can be served simply by itself or with a fish tail upside down on top. You can choose the fillings inside the fish as well, and get a couple toppings! I tried the matcha powder which went really well with the soft serve. The soft serve is so so so so good!!!!! It's creamy, delicious, flavorful but not overpowering in sweetness. Also they give you a ton! Honestly it's so worth the price. My only criticism is there's not a whole lot of seating, just a stand up counter which isn't too bad. There's another cafe it shares a building with next door. Be careful if you go here on the weekends, parking in the lot can be tough. read more
1st time on this place. Great atmosphere but the place is really small they share with another business. Over all ice cream is creamy and sweet and just delicious over all. Service was super fast I think it took 2-3 minutes to get our order. read more

One of my go-to dessert spots in SD but HORRIBLE PARKING LOT... good luck with parking. Small store, often very packed inside at night but they share seating with another dessert spot next door. Rotating swirl flavors per week, so check out their instagram to see the swirls of the week for each location! So if you're looking for a specific swirl, feel free to check out a different location or wait a week and try your luck. My favorite order is the milk + matcha swirl in an upside cup w/ nutella! The ice cream is very light, so the rich nutella has the perfect balance. The taiyaki has a nice waffle texture - softer and thicker than your typical waffle cone. Recently tried the seasonal banana milk flavor, and I'm obsessed! Super refreshing and tastes just like the banana milk juice boxes from HMart! Would def recommend trying it while it's here! Overall, 4/5. Would give this place a 5/5 if they offered samples and if the parking + seating situation was better. read more

Definitely a must have dessert when you're in convoy! The soft serve is so creamy and delicious! Their menu and how to build your soft serve is very easy to follow. The service there is amazing! I've never had an issue and they are always nice and always answer your questions. The ambiance is super cute! I like how you can watch them make the fish! Definitely a cute date spot or a place to catch up with friends! I like to switch it up and try new flavors when I go. But usually my go to is an upside down ahboong with cookies and cream and a fish with Nutella inside. For toppings I usually get the Oreo crumbs or graham crumbs. But honestly whatever you decide to get, it will be delicious! read more

I'm not gonna lie, I thought maybe this place might just be a cute little experience, but nothing noteworthy. I was wrong, their soft serve is kind of next level. The cookies and cream might just be one of the best soft serve ice creams I've ever had, both in flavor and texture. The fish Ah-Boong is a delicious alternative to a cone, and much better in my opinion. Great prices, quick moving line, and crazy delicious. Definitely the dessert spot to check out in the area. read more

Consistently delish soft serve and taiyakis! The soft serve is always creamy and smooth and perfectly sweet. They have flavors like matcha, ube, cookies and cream, swirls of the flavors combined. You can get the soft serve in a cup or in a taiyaki. They offer complimentary toppings like Oreo crumbles, coconut flakes, sprinkles, matcha powder, captain crunch cereal, etc. I love the taiyakis because they are made fresh to order and you can fill them with red bean, custard, Oreo, Nutella, matcha custard, or hotteok (cinnamon brown sugar with nuts). They are perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and come out piping hot for that perfect treat! They have free two hour parking in their lot and then paid hourly after that. Next door they also have a Korean shaved ice dessert shop which is also super yummy! read more

We got the cookies & cream with cookie crumb topping. The taiyaki was Nutella filled. I've had this type of dessert before. However, this was the best Taiyaki ice cream I've ever had. Ice cream was rich and creamy. Flavor was spot on. The taiyaki was expertly prepared and held up its texture while sitting on a pile of ice cream. Two unfortunate things - parking is an absolute nightmare here. There are several good restaurants and dessert places in the area and the parking lot is small. There is street parking around, so you can be successful hunting for those spots. Sometimes there's a rush of people and a decent line. They seem to work through it at a reasonable pace. read more
Somisomi is the perfect after meal sweet treat. Every flavor is a great flavor. They are so efficient. You might wait in a long line, but it moves super fast! Ube & matcha are my favorite flavors & fruit pebbles is a must topping. It's small on the inside, but plenty of space outside. read more

This place is my favorite dessert spot in Convoy! The ice cream is so soft and melts in your mouth, matcha is my favorite flavor. The fish shaped part is like a Taiyaki what it's called in Japan, soft and crunchy but dense enough to hold ice cream. You get to choose what to put inside like nutella or custard. Lastly you get to pick toppings. Service is great, they are fast to take your order and they also do not make mistakes. I also like the inside as there is some seating, it's well lit and there is some outdoor seating. Parking lot is shared with a couple other food spots so you have to be quick about it. read more

I prefer the kiosk in Chandler. I don't know if the person working the register would have warned me about peanuts being in the Black Sesame and I would have ate it. Very scary to think about since they have no ingredients listed. Who would think to ask if they put peanuts in something called black sesame? Red Bean Ice Cream is not good. It tastes earthy. Banana-milk soft serve with a matcha-filled taiyaki was the perfect treat on a hot August day. Chun and I even opted to buy an extra set of taiyaki in red bean and Nutella! Staff here are always friendly and accommodating. I love that you can get fun toppings like Coco pebbles, coconut, and Biscoff! Seating options here are really limited - just one table inside the restaurant and a couple of picnic tables outside that bake in the sun. Most folks crowd in to stand at the slim standup bar that is along the window side. read more
SomiSomi is one of the dessert places I like to visit after a meal on Convoy because it's so close to everything. I got a ah-boong with matcha with red bean and picked Oreo crumbs, cocoa pebbles, and a macaroon for my toppings. I like that the toppings are included in the base price. The ice cream is thick and doesn't melt right away. The matcha flavor is always a solid choice and there was a good amount of red bean filling. I'd like to try other flavors that complement the other fillings next time (Nutella, custard, red bean, taro). The other flavors were ube, coffee, and cookies & cream this time around. There's no seating inside, but a few tables outside. It may be hard to find a seat because it's always busy here. read more

Always good for dessert in Convoy! Especially if you love ice cream. I think they rotate their flavors but I like matcha and cookies and cream and ube. I enjoy getting the swirls for 2 flavors in 1. The taiyaki is a nice accompaniment and I like nutella in it. Lines can get long but it goes super fast! There are some standing areas inside but it can get crowded so there are also tables outside. read more

Oh I love Somi Somi, and every chance I get to visit San Diego it's a yes yes to treat myself with my favorite taiyaki! Flavors vary within locations, but my usual will be the nutella filled taiyaki with cookies and creams soft serve - oreo crumbles added on top. Their matcha/taro flavor is amazing as well Love this location for their cool patio, plenty of parking spaces and friendly service. Wish I had them here in the midwest! read more

Somisomi is one of my favorite dessert places. With weekly flavors, you'll be sure to try something new each week. In collaboration with Jeon Somi, Somisomi had released there Pink Guava flavor. This was a fresh sweet flavor packed into their rich ice cream. Their upside Ah Bong ($6.95) comes with toppings of your choice and a filling of your choice. The location was decorated with posters displaying their summer collaboration with Somi and their new Banana Milk flavor. The workers here are very nice and helpful when it comes to ordering and customizing your dessert. The location is cozy, with a standing bar and a few outdoor tables. This location is split with another dessert place. read more

I LOVE this place. I always get the ube soft serve w/ Oreo crumbs in a cup with a taro filled taiyaki. Service is always quick and cashiers are kind. Definitely recommend going during the weekday because there are parking spots and the line isn't crazy long. read more
Okay so i seen this on IG and thought it was all hype, i was definitely all wrong. This place lived up to its hype. The fish waffle cone is super cute and we had it stuffed with nutella. We got the cookies and cream and the other one with banana milk. Both were freaking amazing. The service is super fast. My order was done before ingot done paying. This place is a bit tiny but it's conjoined with another place so you can grab seats. Definitely love this place. read more

The ice cream was extremely smooth and delicious! It tasted closer to custard than cream based, and the custard filled fish tayaki was a nice addition on top. We'd recommend this dessert spot. Parking is tough though, you'll need to watch out if you're parking in a different lot. read more

AMAZING! The smoothest, creamiest frozen yogurt I've ever had. I had the Oreo with the custard filling, freaking delicious!! The custard was like an extremely creamy pudding, really nice consistency. I was there late and they were out of the cones they make. I need to go back ASAP. read more

This is a good place to get a delicious dessert & hang out. We order cookies & cream & add some toppings to it. I also love the "taiyaki" the fish looking dessert. My favorite is the one filled with custard!!! The strawberry milk is also good especially with the strawberry chunks in it. The staff are always friendly. Whenever we come here, we like to sit inside & hang out & talk. We took uno cards to play meanwhile we enjoyed our dessert. There is plenty of seating inside and they also have cold water with cups aside it for customers to serve themselves. This is my go-to spot for dessert on Convoy. The only reason I didn't do 5 stars is because the parking sucks which isn't their fault but it does get busy & congested so just a heads up when going. read more

I have never seen any coffee or chocolate flavor. They do have Oreo flavor.

Yes there is dairy free options. All of the soft serve is dairy free.

There is matcha, sesame, milk, and ube. They have swirls as well, and the combination depends on the week.
