So glad we finally made it to Songbird. We placed our order online, which was easy to do. The menu is on the smaller side, so it was easy to pick what we wanted. We always loved their classic breakfast sandwich from the Farmer's Market, but decided to branch out, and glad we did. We got the sprouted grain English muffin and the biscuits and gravy. Both were great, but I especially liked the English muffin sandwich - it was unique with micro greens, brown butter aioli, pickled onions, Turkey sausage patty, and an egg. The size was just right, and felt like a great alternative to my usual classic sandwich, since it was a bit on the lighter side. We also threw on a bag of Sump coffee to-go, since we are trying to support local however we can. The process to pick-up (during the pandemic) was a bit like a drive through, so it was nice that it I didn't have to go inside. Very easy to follow, and the include the instructions in the email confirmation when you order! We are traveling from NJ and found this place on yelp. We just had the most amazing BLTE (BLT and added on an egg). The sandwich was so delicious and stacked with loads of bacon. Driving through the city on a road trip and wanted to stop for breakfast. After a quick google search, found this place that had really good reviews and can absolutely see why. They're only curbside right now so we placed an online order and pulled up to the curb. The building is cute with a little outdoor seating area and in a beautiful neighborhood. We were greeted instantly and asked for our name. A really lovely lady came out and was asking about my dogs & gave them bacon which was super sweet of her - not sure if she is the owner but it was a great gesture and appreciate! The wait wasn't long for food. The service was great for curbside - both people we interacted with were very nice. We got the breakfast tamale, grits, and an English muffin to try and share and then each got one of the breakfast sandwiches with bacon, egg, cheese, and tomato. Holy shit the sandwiches... the salt + honey combo is amazing, the bread is exceptional and idk it looks so simple but is one of if not the best breakfast sandwich I've had. The grits are nice and thick and flavorful. The English muffin is crispy but still really soft. We had it with the jam but I personally would've preferred it as a sandwich. The presentation of the breakfast tamale is beautiful even in a take out container and the flavor was amazing. The quality of all the food was top notch as well. Highly recommend!!! Last fall me and my boyfriend stumbled across this spot and were so impressed with this spot. We have been back 5+ times since then and only once has this spot slightly missed the mark, but I think every restaurant will have its off days. My favorites are the classic breakfast sandwich ( make sure to add tomato! ) and the breakfast tamale. All of the lattes are very delicious , you can't go wrong with any of them. This place does fill up quickly so I would call for a reservation if you are going in with a larger group. Service is great and the setting is very intimate with open views to the kitchen. I recommend this spot to all of my friends who come through to St. Louis. I also don't agree with the people who state the prices are unfair, in my opinion the prices are great considering the premium, locally sourced ingredients which you can taste in every bite. read more

One of the friendliest and most welcoming restaurant I've ever encountered. It's a fairly small place and obviously very popular for Sunday brunch. I arrived with a large group expecting and understanding that we may not be able to be seated at all let alone quickly. To my surprise they were able to accommodate us within 10 minutes, and couldn't have been friendlier about the increased headache I was worried we were causing with so many guests. The service throughout was phenomenal, and our waitress had fantastic recommendations for us. My favorites were the cheddar grits (so creamy!) and pound cake. The whipped coconut cream and coffee jelly that the pound cake came with were so interesting and unique. They also brought us a complimentary order of the cake just to welcome us. To top things off, someone in our group had mentioned in conversation with our waitress that we were in STL for a couple of birthdays in our group. For lunch, I had the breakfast tamale with added fermented hot sauce. The dish texture is all mush and sauce, with an over easy egg with crispy edges on top. It is a very tasty dish, especially with that hot sauce. Water glasses were kept full and they seemed staffed/organized beyond their level of business at the time we were there. Some friends and I made reservations here, and while it still meant like an additional ten minute wait, that was fine for a Saturday brunch. Just a word of warning for my claustrophobic friends, it's a very tight restaurant space-wise. We sat down and pretty quickly were asked for orders (we hadn't even gotten water)--I was only prepared to order drinks but our server immediately had an air of rushing us and said let's just put food orders in too. I said oh I haven't even had a chance to look and he didn't reply at all so I rushed to pick while my friends ordered. While I could tell my coffee was quality roast, when I asked for a side of cream he replied with "Oat milk?" I said "umm any milk options or cream?" "Almond milk?" was the reply. Ok. I was never asked if I wanted to refill my coffee, which would have come with a charge I know. (The size of the cup is super small also for how much I paid for no refills.) While the attention to our water was frequent, it would often be like a splash of water (to like half full) and was just sort of odd behavior--maybe bigger glasses or table water carafes would help this issue. The food itself (Combo sandwich) was good but I wished it came with a side for how much I paid for it. I ordered the pound cake to go...unless you're familiar with and enjoy almond flour baking, maybe pick something else. I'm not sure it should even be categorized as pound cake, which is usually very moist. The clincher of this experience, my friends and I were enjoying conversation and our waiter came over to say "Yeah so there's a reservation here now....so..." We ate pretty quickly so to say this when we had barely sat there in peace was simply rude. Overall, I'm not sure I'll be back here unless for a latte during an off peak weekday or something. This is my favorite place on the planet. I enjoy eating in the restaurant as well as curbside pick up. I first tried it when I learned that they had gluten-free options. Their gluten-free bread on the combo sandwich is absolutely amazing. The cheddar grits are also great and the bacon is always my favorite part. When I eat inside, I also always get a latte which is delicious. The staff here is so nice and they always make a conscious effort to make your visit spectacular.
