Me and my family went here last week, and the waitress was a good one, she threw in some jokes here and there, and we had our food, minded our own business. The food was good, for a while I've been craving a sandwich for a while and their stake sandwich did it for me, with tater tots and broccoli. Everyone else took their time enjoying their food, while I just dined as fast as I could at the time. I would recommend this place IF they attempted to become more noticeable to the public eye by getting rid of the trees at the front of their sign up front, and not only that but have an enternece somewhere around the sign to begin with. But other than those two, food and waiting hours was great, and I wouldn't mind taking the time to get there again sometime soon. read more

It was the first visit to a Sonny's for 3 out of 4 of us and we were thrilled that we went. The food was delish! More importantly, the servers were AMAZING! Rachel was our waitress and she couldn't have been more fun, helpful, or accommodating. She was THE BEST! And the playful conversation between us, her, and the other staff would make you want to be a regular at this place. We live in CA, but will make sure to stop in any time we're in the area. So, here's the story, I was in town meeting some friends for lunch. I'm from Kissimmee and all the Sonny's around us have closed. I was excited to be eating lunch at Sonny's again. I got to the restaurant at about 10:30. They opened the doors at 10:45. My friends were not there yet so I got a table for us and started chatting with the server. I asked if they still did all you can eat ribs. She said yes but needed to see what the price was. She came back and told me $22.99. WHAT?? It was just like $14.99 a month ago when I went to another Sonny's. I then asked about the baby back ribs. She said you get a full rack. OK, that sounded good. I know the rib plate only comes with like 3 or 4 ribs and for the money I wanted something more. My friends show up and we finally order. I got the full rack baby back ribs, fries and cole slaw. I did ask that they bring out the cole slaw first as I like to eat that before my meal. The server came out with my dish of slaw, and I was psyched! About halfway done with my slaw, the server came over and said that the baby backs would not be done for at least another 1/2 hour. WHAT?? Why didn't she know this before the doors opened? She asked if I wanted the St. Louis ribs and I told her no. For the money it's not worth it. So, I sat and watched my friends eat and I stopped at Colt's Pig Stand in Orange City on my way back to Orlando. The kicker of it all what that they charged me for the cole slaw. Oh well, I shall not be going back to that location. The server should have known what was available and what wasn't before the doors opened and guests arrived. Admittedly I have always preferred the one up BBQ joints over any franchised brands, it just seems impossible to maintain a high standard of consistently over a large number of restaurants when it comes to food quality and service. I've been to a number of Sonny's BBQ Restaurants and I find this to be the case at any I've visited and this one is no exception. I wonder if my experience today is remotely similar to the experience that the customers experienced at the very first Sonny's and if the food quality and service has any similarities. I understand the need to grow a business but what are you willing to risk, what is acceptable and what is sacrificed? Our server today was friendly but unable to focus and it was definitely more about the quantity of customers than the quality of the customer service, it didn't start out that way but she seem to think once the food arrived her responsibility ended, so getting anything including the check wasn't going to happened - lack of training perhaps but it appeared to be more of a lack of management or supervision. The staff here was a mix of younger people that lacks experience combined with a few older people that just seem overwhelmed. A few other negatives was the nasty bottles of sauce sitting table-side disgusting, old dried crusted sauce on the nozzles, sticky bottles, to tell you the truth we have no idea if Sonny's sauce is good or bad we didn't want to risk it, the empty table next to us was being used a sauce refilling station this is absolutely wrong the young girl filled, spilled and never cleaned or wiped the bottles - please take this to the kitchen where the bottles can be washed. As much I wanted to focus on the food in this review, the distractions made it impossible and really made the entire experience a big disappointment. If there was one positive here it's the "new" smoked wings they were absolutely incredible - I plan to enjoy them again but as take out only with no sides or drinks - I guess I won't have any more $40 checks here, maybe Sonny should expand into the drive-through food to go only business less employees less to manage less issues, because the business model's not working... read more

Sonny's BBQ is one of my favorite places to go because of their whole hog. But the last two times I've been here, they're very slow. They take 40 minutes just too bring you your food and the kitchen isn't even behind. Overall, the food is good. The only complaint is they've been taking too long because they let the food just sit on the counter when it's ready. read more

When I was young in Florida, we used to go to Gill's BBQ in Ormond. It burned down, then reopened, then closed later. Sonny's was my alternative. Always have loved the sliced pork and their hot sauce. I've never found such a good BBQ anywhere else. On a recent trip to Central Florida, I returned to Port Orange since I attended Spruce Creek HS. The only reason why it gets one star is for the poor waitress and corn on the cob was the only pleasant thing in the restaurant. Food was terrible and dry, spoke with manager there's only reply was " well, you ate half of it" when you're hungry, you kind of choke down food that you don't even like to fill the hole. Baked beans out a can are better than theirs . And baked beans should be the best menu item period at any bbq place. Second problem their chicken is small and always dried out even smothered in sauce it still is not that great I have always been disappointed in every Sonnys chicken And it could be a real difference between a good meal and a lousy meal They need to find a way to make it where it's plump and juicy in the middle and I hope they do . My experience at Sonny's BBQ was good overall...We dined in for lunch one day and here's the story... My first thought was, "this is not what I expected". The atmosphere is no frills, but I am used to more of a "BBQ Joint" than a "BBQ Restaurant". We don't have chain BBQ restaurants back home. Like I mentioned, this place is not fancy, but is a great casual family restaurant, where you can count on quick service and good food. The prices are very reasonable too. The menu offers anything one would expect to find at a BBQ restaurant. They have smoked barbecued beef, chicken, pork, and turkey and all the trimmings. They usually have an 'All You Can Eat" special going on. They have a good kids menu, including hot dogs, and smaller versions of the other meals. These meals are VERY reasonably priced. I was dining in for lunch and having never been to a Sonny's before; I wanted to try as many different items as possible and ordered the Super Combo. If I had to do it again, I would look pretty hard at their "all you can eat" option. That being said, let's dig a little deeper.... Sonny's does not smother their meat in sauce; almost everything is served "naked", which is a good thing and shows confidence in their cooking ability. The sauces were there waiting for you at the table, which I really liked, being a sauce enthusiast. There are four I believe, but at my table there were three options: Mild, Sizzlin' Sweet, and Smokin'. My favorite was the Sizzlin' Sweet, which had the perfect combination of sweetness and spices. All three appeared to be tomato based, but the Sizzlin' Sweet seemed to have more hints of vinegar than the other two. Superb. The classic dry rub ribs I received were very good and along with the sliced pork, the highlight of the meal. They were served naked as well, so they weren't anything fancy, but were tender and had a crust with a nice spicy smoke flavor. The brisket was good, but you should be able to slice brisket with a fork, or when holding a slice in your hand, with a slight tug, it should pull apart. That's real pit brisket. It should have a wonderful, flavorful crust that is very tasty and robust in flavor, not too dry. Sonny's BBQ brisket wasn't overly dry, but was leaner than I am used to, and not super tender. It pulled apart, but not without a good tug. I didn't experience a lot of flavor with the brisket. My opinion is that although the brisket was undoubtedly good, it didn't stand on its own and relied on the sauces too much. The big surprise was the sliced pork, this is something we don't have back home, so it was new to me and was well received. It was cut thin, moist, tender and had some flavor; although it could have used more as well. Sizzlin' Sweet to the rescue again... I was not impressed with any side dishes I received, which were the green beans and the baked beans. The baked beans were too sweet. There were nice chunks of meat in there, but I couldn't taste anything because the brown sugar overshadowed the dish. The green beans were bland, the small bits of bacon included didn't add any flavor and I suspect were there merely for aesthetics. Since my visit, I've read online that the Mac & Cheese is not to be missed. The salad bar is fair. However, I must say that what passes for potato salad bread pudding was nearly inedible. I've eaten potato salad prepared almost every way possible, and this was the worst I've ever experienced to date. My personal favorite is the Classic Southern variety. What was served at Sonny's was mainly boiled potatoes chopped into about one inch pieces, mixed together with a mayonnaise and vinegar dressing of some sort, I'm not sure if it had eggs or not. The bread pudding was solid and dry and not too appealing, but having tried the bread pudding at every restaurant that serves it, I went ahead and braved the square I was given at Sonny's. It's not worth writing about. **** Originally, I was going to go with a three star rating because of the side dishes, but after writing my review, I realize that I enjoyed Sonny's more than that. The great meat I had more than made up for the disappointment in the side dishes. Good BBQ places are getting harder to find, and Sonny's offers a very good menu at good prices, which is even harder to find. I wish I could give a 4.5 star rating. read more

I know, I know. 4 stars for a Sonny's. Take my 'q card away from me. But the place is consistently good, always very quick, and they have some great values. Drinks are enormous (and you can get a full refill in a to-go cup!). The meat is always good enough. The Big Deal lunch combos - definitely why you should be coming to a Sonny's - are always worth it. At every location I've been to, service is always friendly. Sure, it's middle-of-the-road barbeque, but the little things make it worth coming back to, every time. ANECDOTE TIME! When I lived in Hawaii, which (aside from island style) has terrible barbeque, my sister wanted to send me a bottle of Sonny's sweet sauce. The mail clerk asked her the usual package shipping questions (liquid, glass, fragile, etc), but when my sister explained I was a Citrus County native who missed good sauce, the mailman let her send it to me. He liked the potato salad and the green bean's were all right. I had the pulled pork platter and it was tender but could have used more flavor. I usually taste the meat before I sauce, some times the meat has enough flavor and doesn't need sauce. This pork needed sauce for flavor. The Mac and cheese could have been better and was served in a scooped solid mound on the dish. Nothing spectacular about the entire plate. We've had better. And for a place that advertises itself as America's best BBQ -it was just so so. The hostess could have been smiling and greeted us with a friendly "Hello", but instead asked "How many? Follow me" and walked away to our table. Our server on the over hand was very friendly and attentive. Good service from her! Restaurant looked like it's seen some wear and tear. Went to dinner at this establishment yesterday passing through to Delray Beach. The baby back ribs with baked potato and barbecue beans were very good. My wife had a salad and shared some of the ribs. We could not fault it. Derek, the server, was excellent even though they were short staffed. The only part of the meal that we were unhappy with was the cinnamon donuts. Instant sugar shock. They were drowned in sugar and very dry. Great variety of ordering options like lunch, dinner, combos, big deals, etc. The service is always very timely and they always keep your drinks full and ask if they can help. Cons: It's a chain. Menu and specials rarely change. The salad bar is not really robust enough to order as a standalone meal and not worth the price to add to meal unless you're planning on filling up on salad and taking home your main course for lunch the next day. Overall: worth it every time if you order lunch, a Big Deal anytime, or dinner. Feast for four is amazing. Do yourself a favor and try the cornbread. read more
