I frequent this restaurant when in the DTW airport if ever I have a decent amount of time to connect. It is not at all for quality but because of dietary restrictions. There is a very pleasant Southeast Asian lady who works here - though I see her less as I reflect. Unfortunately, as I write this review, her name is escaping me. She would oftentimes give me suggestions about what to get. One time, she even went out of her way to ask the chef to make some things that were off the menu. The food, it is very average in regards to quality, but moreover, the pricing for the dishes varies tremendously. Though there are some really authentic options served on the menu, do not be tricked into thinking it is the best option because you see so many Asian people dining in the restaurant. DTW is still a very large hub for connecting Asian travelers due to it being a former Northwest Airlines (now Delta Air Lines) hub. My last trip through the airport will be my absolute last time going here. Outside of the one lady mentioned earlier, all of the waitstaff seems royally pissed, irritated or as if they don't want to be bothered. My last trip was the final straw. I went in, no one greeted me. When someone finally did, it was "Hello. Sit wherever." Not once did she look up at me. This was a white lady with a short hair cut. I simply responded, "I'd actually like to order to go." She walked away. At this point, Peter C., a sassy Asian man, came and repeated the same thing as her - "Hello. Sit wherever." Once again, not ever looking at me. I placed my order and he responded, "That's not on the menu anymore." He still did not look at me. I changed my order. He then charged me. I sat and I watched everyone's demeanor. Each employee on the schedule that day lacked basic customer service skills. When my food was finished, Peter C. walked over to me and simply said, "All set." I looked up and once again he didn't look at me, but seemed agitated with limp wrists holding my bag. This man needs to be fired. The entire waitstaff minus the Southeast Asian lady needs to be replaced. They are a very poor representation of American customer service especially when catering to an Asian clientele with much higher expectations of service. The food is not bad nor is it spectacular. I didn't like the food all that much the first time I came here, but somehow I still came back during my connection for my return flight, so I guess it must not have been that bad. Actually, it wasn't. The sushi was actually reasonable. I got a whole box of various kinds, so I could feast on it on the plane. The donburi that I got during my first visit, however, was less good. The katsu was a little too tough and over-fried, but otherwise the flavor was good, and the service was fine. I guess what I really liked about this place is that it's rarely too crowded, and it has nice windows seats. I tend to have extremely low expectations for any restaurant in an airport, *especially* Japanese/Sushi. Totally pleased -- not just on the traditional rolls, but other things -- for example, their agedashi tofu was better than I'd had in a while. I'll be back whenever I'm flying through DTW. We stopped here before a flight out as the mexican places we like were too far of a walk for the amount of time we had, and, we love Japanese. I had read some good things about this place, so here we are. Anyway, we both had miso soup, and then I had two rolls, one california spicy and one that had asparagus (new for me in a sushi roll) and king crab. My husband had a shrimp tempura roll and a california roll. I also had this dessert that was AWESOME. Cannot recall what it was called, but it was ice cream wrapped in marshmellow and I had coffee and vanilla. YUM. The spicy california was super good, and meh on the other roll. I don't think I like the asparagus as part of a sushi roll or something and something tasted slightly off with it. Anyway, I would stop here again while travelling, but there was nothing spectacular about the place. Service was quick and good though. read more

I always try to stop in here when connecting through DTW. Miso soup is good and comes fast. The quality of the fish is above average - not the best and not the worst. The prices for airport sushi are very good. I can get in an out of there like in 15 minutes if I don't have much time between flights. if this place was in a downtown area - I'd give it 3 stars - another star goes for being in 'A' concourse of DTW. read more

I am giving a three star because this place has five star waitress and a one star manager "think his name is Yu or You. Ordered some sushi and the surf clam has a lot of sand. I had to spit it out and tried not to make a big deal out it by asking for the manager and told him about it. This is a nice food option for a layover. Not many sushi restaurants in airports in the Midwest and this one was a welcome surprise. I now eat here when I have time between flights and have not been disappointed. Sushi rolls are good, service is quick, and I am on my way with a full tummy. After a 24 hour flight from Singapore, I was craving some hot noodle soup. The chashu ramen was ok - I greatly appreciated that the broth was not overly salty or over-the-top umami, however the broth was not flavorful from that standpoint. The meat was slightly overcooked. Sora is my stop wherever I am passing through the DTW. Decent sushi and noodle dishes in an airport setting. Let's face it, when have you had a decent meal in an airport for any given cuisine. The food here is very good. It is also expensive. I have to be honest the wait staff is useless. Not attentive at all, won't help other wait staff even if a customer try's to flag them down. Took 30 min to make 8 rolls which seemed long. I have eaten here many times in the passed and been pleased. Need to fire the entire staff and start over. read more

I wasnt expecting too much since well....sushi at an airport restaurant?!? but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Is it the best sushi I've ever had? No not really but it was absolutely edible and beats those prepackaged sushi things you find a the stop and go places any day. The rolls were served very quickly which is a good quality if you only have 45 minutes before the connecting flight leaves, probably wasnt made to order but it definately did taste like it was created somewhere at 6am in the morning (this was at 9pm) The prices are reasonable for airport food so this is probably going to be a regular stop on my travels. read more

Nice to have sushi as an option in the airport. Avoid the salad with ginger dressing. Spicy tuna roll and dancing eel roll were good. Salmon sashimi didn't have much taste. Would probably consider returning, but would stick to the basic/less expensive or cooked fare. read more

My favorite airport sushi! Service is quick and reliable, which is important during travel. Additionally, the menu has a wide selection of items. The rolls are pretty good. Keep in mind, you are in an airport, but with that in mind, if you like Japanese food, visit gate A35 in the Delta terminal for a nice sip of plum wine and a good meal! read more

Located at A38 not far from McDonalds and other safer bets, I now realize that i made a mistake. When walking in i did look in the counter and should have trusted my instinct - but when the sushi urge hits you gotta feed it!! Feed it I tried, satisfy it I did not..., Its terrible, expensive and terrible again! I spat out the salmon it was that bad - obviously pre sliced, dry and tough - similar to Jack Links Jerky, but not tasty. Noting i ate i really enjoyed, rolls, roe, sushi oh hold on the beer was cold and they serve Sapporo so they are almost a Sushi bar i guess..... Nothing outstanding about Sora. For airport sushi, I guess it's OK. I had a salmon roll and tuni roll. Fish was underwhelming, dry, and had barely any flavor. Way too much rice. I eat sushi 2-3 times/week and i have never heard of a place that you are not allowed to sub all salmon on a rainbow roll... Not even for an extra charge. Manager was rude to staff and seemed to be overly concerned about food cost. He got into an argument with a server from over the top of the sushi bar about how much sauce should be given when a guest asks for extra. Very unprofessional! Rolls are small and sashimi is tasty and big. It's debatable if I would ever stop here again if I am at this airport. read more

Good for an airport. Fast and courteous service good choices on the menu with a nice sushi selection. So of course had the soba. With tofu. Good broth not over seasoned, very good noodles and tasty tofu. Just wish had more than 4 very thin slivers of tofu. But did have my favorite iced green tea - Ito-En, nice to get it at DTW read more
