I've always enjoyed the cocktails and the atmosphere at South -- both are still excellent and really make the place feel special. But the food just isn't keeping up. The menu has gotten noticeably smaller, and the quality has slipped. The Hot Honey Salmon had no seasoning at all, and the farro underneath wasn't even edible. The asparagus was good but only 5 small twigs were provided. It would be great to see the food return to the same level as the drinks and vibe, because the potential is there. Oh and the food was brought by a food runner with completely un kept hair who apron was dirty. I would recommend keeping those folk in the back of the house. read more

Walking in the restaurant it's so pulchritudinous, with the decor being unlike its environmental surroundings. The staff is very mixed and friendly. Drinks and food are amazing my go to is the cajun chicken pasta or the chicken sandwich. Everything is fresh hot and served with a do you need anything else. I'll always dine in because takeout needs some assistance and attention. My first order out was fine my second time it got funny gave me ranch with a Caesar salad and a chicken strip for my chicken sandwich. I had to send it back. They fixed it but it's the principal and it's very awkward. When picking up you have to walk through the whole restaurant and sit and wait after calling 30 minutes previously. First time at South Bar and wanted to try the unlimited brunch menu. Basically, its $54 per person and you'll be able to eat anything on the brunch menu. My objection was to try EVERYTHING on the brunch menu or atleast try to. Appetizers - The buttermilk biscuits were very soft, fresh and moist. Topped with butter and jam it melted in my mouth. When I read they had Pulled pork cornbread on the menu i wasnt a fan at first, however when I tasted that cornbread it changed my opinion. It was so delicious. One of the tastier items on the menu. It had a nice savory taste. The Hashbrowns were salty. Personally, I didn't really care for it as it tasted oily. The Deviled eggs were OK. I expected the eggs to be more flavorful for some reason. Now that brown sugar bacon..... DELICIOUS!!!! Round of applause. I couldn't rave more about how good it was. It was one of the select few on the appetizer menu that I would give 4 stars to. Turkey sausage was ok. The bacon jam slides were pretty good. It had a different taste, not in a bad way either. Definitely better than the chicken Sliders. The chicken sliders were just ok. Nothing spectacular. Berries and cream I did not like at all. It was just too sweet for my liking. If you like spicy food, the jalapeño macaroni and cheese is for you. Fresh watermelon was indeed fresh. Mains... I wasn't satisfied with the steak and eggs. The steak was salty. I ordered the eggs with cheese on top which made it better. Sweet Potato Pecan Waffles were scrumptious! I should have ordered this item first because after trying everything else I was too full to finish. You don't get up for anything. You tell them what you want, and they bring it to you. The food actually tastes good, too. Most places that mass-produce food, the flavor falls off. Not here. The taste and presentation are both on point. Biscuits, waffles, chicken and waffles, cornbread, shrimp and grits, crab cakes...the list goes on and on and on and on and on. We sat outside, and it was a nice, cool, breezy day. Inside is nice too, but you can't beat the outside scenery when it's breezy, especially in South Florida. I've been back 3 times now and the last 2 times now I've been so disappointed in their service. We waited 25 minutes even for water, then another 10 minutes for our drinks. Apps came out timely and the wings were delicious! However, we ran out of drinks and did not see our waitress for some time. I went up to the bar to order for our table and the bartender didn't even apologize or acknowledge that I was there because our waitress was a ghost. Service was SO BAD , so I hate to write this review because the food is delicious. However, tonight, the portions were awful. My salmon was awesome (big portion) but there were 3 green beans and a ton of farro - no other veggies. Sweet potato fries are so delicious except they came out so cold. My brother got the Caesar salad with steak and it came with legitimately 5 piece of steak. Pretty disappointing. After 2 subpar visits, I'm sad to say this place has wholeheartedly disappointed me and we won't be back anytime soon until the figure out their service. read more

They had a DJ and the music was quite loud but not unbearable. My rating is low because for $54 you get mostly carbs. Waffles, grits, hash browns, desserts, sandwiches. Also the plates do not come out together but separately. We ordered various plates and the first ones that came were Mac and cheese. Then after 5 minutes hash browns. Then after another 5 minutes shrimp and grits. Finally a protein. Then after another 5 minutes a plate of steak and eggs. The way they bring out the food really takes away from the dining experience. I believe people like to eat meals completely with everything present. What am I going to do with just 2 sides to begin my meal? By the time the protein arrives I'm already satiated from carbs. I will say the food was good but at the rate it was coming out, my appetite left me. The service was just alright. One thing I'll say is that the alcoholic drinks came out fast and tasted good. The deviled eggs were good but I didn't rush to finish the serving or re order. Crab beignets: the sauce is definitely the star. Without it they are bland. I wish there had been more flavor Jalapeño Mac & cheese: the jalapeño, bread crumb crunch on top is a nice touch. While the jalapeño flavor is there I was wishing for more spice. At first the Mac was too cheesy, I'm a fan of cheese but it was more like a velveeta cheese but I found myself going for more bites and finished it before I knew it The bacon was too chewy. This is only a review for the bar service on a Saturday afternoon. We had excellent bartenders. I had the delicious espresso martini made with a choice of vodka or tequila, and they add kahlua and baileys! They top it with a toasted marshmallow. Unfortunately, they only serve unlimited brunch food menu for $54/person and no Ala cart. The band was excellent and played until 3pm. They have indoor and outdoor seating. For appetizers the biscuits and gravy was the whole table favorite we even order some gravy on the side for the main dishes . The chicken and waffles were good , comes with hot honey but it can be replaced; the chicken was good flavor but with the waffle it lacked of sauce/ honey so it was a bit dry . Absolutely worth going 100 times over I absolutely love the atmosphere and the ambience. You have the choice of indoor outdoor seating. There is live music. They have themed events during the week. The brunch is very unique its one menu with about 30 options of food and dessert to choose from you pay one flat rate per person, and it is unlimited for all of the food items. It is served tapas size and shareable. The drinks are also bottomless however, they only have two choices of mimosa flavors, but they do have my favorite the spritzer which is included in bottomless. I would highly recommend going to this venue for brunch. It is great for dates, family and large parties. When you walk into South, it's beautiful. The inside is open and inviting and the back area outside is gorgeous! There was a live musician which created a fun atmosphere. We sat at the bar and were met with quick and friendly service. We read the happy hour menu and quickly ordered an old fashioned and an espresso martini. Oops! We thought the cutesie names of each were just that, and didn't realize they were specific styles of those drinks. Out came a spicy prickly pear old fashioned that tasted more like a margarita than anything resembling bourbon or an old fashioned. We both switched to a wine and beer for our second drink. The weather this time of the year is just perfect so the outdoor seating of this beautiful new establishment with very typical Florida design and interior (I thought everyone in Miami uses the same designer these days when opening a business but now it's even here lol). Outdoor is dog friendly. To my surprise there was a happy hour and it did not disappoint!!! We ordered deviled eggs, pimento cheese dip and little chickens. Everything was really good. The restaurant is modern and gorgeous, total open air plan with a gorgeous deck to eat on outside. There really isn't any views but that's ok the ambiance inside is good enough. We ordered the crab beignets and they were delicious with the pairing of mascarpone cheese. It was recommended by our server who was fantastic. My wife and mother in law had the shrimp po boy with sweet potato fries and loved them. I opted for the it's the jam burger. Absolutely out of this world. Juicy and sweet. Went to South Bar & Kitchen in Pompano to try out the $35 Lunch Special for 2. I've never been here before and we were there exactly at 11:30 just as the doors opened. We were met by Jason, a very courteous gentleman who showed us to our seats, brought us our menus and took our drink order. While I perused the menu, I scoped out the inside of the restaurant. It is very tastefully decorated, absolutely spotless, and the dishware is adorable. They have an outside patio that is going to be perfect for when the weather cools down a bit. We made our selection from the specialized menu and even placed an extra order for the deviled eggs. The Boudin rolls came out first- piping hot and delicious. Crispy treats filled with savory pork, pepper jack, and goat cheese with a dollop of pepper jelly on each. I could have eaten the whole plate myself because they were so tasty. The deviled eggs came out next. I personally don't eat them, but they sure were pretty to look at! My lunch date said they were good, but not really worth the $14 price tag. The sandwiches came out at the perfect time, not too soon, not too late. You get a side with the entrees and I got the Cajun fries- decently seasoned and he got the sweet potato crinkle fries. Both the sandwiches were cooked to perfection. The flavors on both melded together in the best way. After we finished the sandwiches, Jason cleared the plates and out came the dessert- strawberry shortcake bread pudding with a side of strawberry ice cream, sliced strawberries and whipped cream. It was a delight for the senses. Since my date had eaten all the deviled eggs, I got to have the rest of the bread pudding, which was absolutely fine by me because it was scrumptious. The lunch menu is the perfect amount of food, you're full, but not uncomfortably so and I highly recommend it. Jason was an excellent server so make sure to ask for him the next time you go. The only reason why I did not give this for stars is because I feel that the sides/starters were a little pricey for what you got, but not the ingredients are quality, so it's not that terrible. Popped in for brunch this past weekend and WOW! The restaurant is absolutely fabulous and how chic is that bathroom?! Everything is eye candy from the moment you walk in. The hostess was very friendly and inviting. Our waitress was a delight and even the staff running the food were all so polite and full of smiles. The restaurant seemed a bit under staffed and our waiter definitely showed his frustration towards us when we asked another wait staff if anyone was going to take our main order after we had already had our appetizers and we were already there for 45 mins. When our waiter returned to our table , he was very vocal about his frustration with us asking another wait staff his whereabouts. My husband had to diffuse the situation and just asked him to take our order so we can move on. The waiter seemed to calm down after a few moments and became attentive after that. But no apology. The ambiance was nice, live country and holiday music in the patio area. The singer had a great voice and the music was not overwhelmingly loud. We were automatically charged the waiters tip, where I can see now why the waiter was so opened on showing his frustrations to us since he knew he would automatic get 20%. The only thing was that it was kind of warm inside despite drinking cold drinks and having AC. They have a huge selection of cocktails but I decided on the South Spritz (Aperol, St Germain, elderflower liquor, champagne, Chinola, passionfruit liqueur, fever free tonic) and my boyfriend opted for the tangerine juice. Let's just say that it was a bougier version of your average deviled eggs and I absolutely inhaled it. It's also so pretty since it's partially pink which is suspect it's from pickled onion juice for color? Not sure. We got two different Egg Benedicts. The fried green tomatoes and bacon one is a lighter option which was yum. The cajun crab cake version was a little heavier and extremely filling. We have been to Southern bar and kitchen several times and have enjoyed ourselves but last night they really made it so you don't wanna come back just because of the service and the management. The food was good as always it's not great, but it is very good food. We enjoyed our meal. It's still a beautiful restaurant and the live Music is great. Our server, who actually greeted us at the door as at the hostess stand sat us outside and he was very friendly. Once we ordered our drinks, It took 15 minutes for my drink to come out. My wife still had to wait 5 minutes long and when it did come to the table, he said oh there's confusion the bar is busy. The restaurant was not that busy and there are 2 bars. The waiter walked away again and then after we waited about 10 more minutes, he came back and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered two appetizers and said we'll order our dinner after the appetizers come. Our appetizers were brought to the table and as the service staff that brought it to the table walked away, We had to ask for plates, silverware, and napkins, as none were provided. As a we ate, a different server brought over two more drinks to our table. I advised this server we got the drinks already and did not order new ones. She gave us an attitude and just walked off with drinks. After we finished our appetizers,we waited about 10 more minutes to the point where I almost got up to get the server when he came back to ask how everything was and if we wanted to order our dinner. We ordered a salad and a hamburger. The server walked away again and then a short time later came back to our table with two more drinks and again said there was confusion at the bar here take these on the house although we told him we did not want them. He left them and said it's not gonna be on your check. I explained to him that somebody else brought two drinks which we did not want. He told us just take these. They will not be on your check. From that point, we never saw him again. Our food came out. The server never came back to see if we needed anything or if the food was OK. After we finished eating, we were just sitting there and finally stacked the plates in the middle of the table when another person came and cleared them. Again, no server no assistance from anyone to see if we needed anything. We sat there for another 5 to 10 minutes to the point where I finally had to get up go inside the restaurant being that we were sitting on the patio outside and ask another employee to find our server or give us our check. The server came out after another employee brought us her check and said that he is working the inside and outside and is very busy and was very sorry that no one came around . To make matters worse, we paid our check and asked the server to bring us a printed copy of the receipt. He never returned. A short time later a female manager with blonde hair came over and told us that she heard that we were upset. I explained to her what it happened and added I just want the receipt from our dinner. The manager advised she could not locate the receipt and then brought me a new check advising that she took the appetizers off and asked for my credit card. I handed my credit card and asked her what is she going to do and she said ring up my tab. I told her again do not put another charge on my card and showed her that it had already been deducted from my account for our meal. She walked off with my credit card and after waiting several minutes, I went inside looking for her. I just wanted my receipt. The management was wrong for getting an attitude with me when I was not making a scene or causing a problem. We had dinner with ten friends prior to going to a show. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. We were able to relax over dinner and still be on time for the show, just a couple of blocks away at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. We ate in their lovely courtyard. We were a bit concerned when a musician began setting up right near our table. (We've been to restaurants where the music was so loud, we felt the need to text each other at a table for six. ) Not a concern here. First time visiting. First impression? The place is beautiful. The ambiance, inviting. We sat inside but could see the "backyard" was lit to perfection and had a crowed. The Food: the menu is very limited. It's a fusion of 30% restaurant, 70% bar. I ordered the seared tuna (tuna block just kissed the pan) very small plate (6 pieces). Also ordered the pimento burger. It's was good but definitely not a $20 burger. Mojitos are not on the menu, but they make it upon request. I had a coconut Mojito, which was excellent. Finally got a chance to check this place out and it did not disappoint! The toasted marshmallow espresso martinis were incredible! We also had the smoked beef carpaccio, sweet potato chips, burrata salad, and smoked ribs. Everything we ate was *CHEFS KISS* They have live music every third Friday of the month from 6-10pm and we happened to be there for it. The twinkle lights, cold weather, and open restaurant vibes was everything we needed for a relaxing mom's night out. We sat at the bar and had great attentive service. They have an open grassy area to play corn hole and maybe let your kids run around while you sip some delicious cocktails. I can't wait to go back again!! read more

The gumbo was good but the portion was not enough for not the price. The mixed drinks were meh. The deviled eggs were very good. The boudin rolls were very good. However the truth of the matter is, is that they're a way too many to places we want to try and others we want to revisit, so the chances of us returning to this spot after our experience is slim to none. I had the opportunity to experience this place twice in one week. It was a total Jekyll and Hyde. Tuesday lunch was a pleasant meal for three of us at a leisurely pace. Service was fast, friendly and welcoming. Our server directed us to the daily specials. I had the fried chicken sandwich which done right; hot crunchy, not greasy. Based on the Tuesday e experience, I returned with one of our original party to try the bottomless brunch. What I liked: a lot of different small plates. What I didn't: exceedingly loud music and confused service. On no fewer than SIX occasions, either our food went to the wrong table or the another tables food came to ours. Amusing once, annoying every next time I will give credit where due, crab beignets, deviled eggs, fried chicken sandwich, and ​B.E.C sliders were all very good. I was meeting with friends for lunch and one of them had heard this place was good so we made a reservation. There is a parking lot right across from it so easy. The building is bright and airy. You can tell it could be really fun for happy hour. Our waitress was very friendly and check on us many times to make sure we were good. Throughout the time we were there - she also didn't make us feel rushed. I split the fried green tomatoes and a chicken sandwich (spicy) with one of my friends. Lots of food! There was enough fried green tomatoes for all 3 of us. They were good and good seasoning in the batter used. The fried chicken sandwich was juicy and lots of seasoning. It wasn't battered so it wasn't as heavy. we get the sweet potato chips as the side - I highly recommend those! Cute place!! read more
