South Philly Italian Kitchen was exactly like having someone cook you a meal out of their kitchen. The hardest part about my visit was finding parking. It is located in a residential neighborhood so you may have to find a side street and walk back. The decor is no frills. Just simple tables chairs nothing fancy. It is byob. Keep this in mind. I forgot but they offer soda and water. Everyone is friendly here. We were seated right away and placed our order. For apps we had fried calamari and fresh mozzarella made in house. The calamari was good. I felt like they were a tad over cooked but still good. The cheese was amazing. It had so much flavor. We were also happy to see that when they served bread it was with oil and balsamic. We order chicken rotini and the salmon special for entrees. The salmon was cooked perfect not a dry edge or bite and the lemon butter sauce and shrimp were a perfect combination. The chicken rotini was tender as well and match well with the roasted vegetables. While there we also got a chance to meet the owner who encouraged this non eggplant lover to give it a shot and I was not disappointed. The eggplant paired with the fresh mozzarella was delicious. I am happy to add this local spot to my date night rotation and support someone very local.

I had an extremely tasty takeout dinner from South Philly Italian Kitchen tonight, Indeed this was one of my favorite Covid-19 pandemic meals tp date. First of all let's get this straight - South Philly Italian Kitchen is about as far as you can get from South Philly as it is located in my Northwest Philly neck of the woods. But the owners and the dishes served up are pure old time South Philly. Yes this is a classic Philly gravy eatery. My appetizer was totally tasty. It consisted of sauteed Italian sausages and cauliflower in a garlic olive oil sauce. The flavor combination was perfect. My main course was a delicious Chicken Marsala. The chicken was juicy and the sauce was great ~ (note to restaurant - just a little more Marsala sauce please!) A nice risotto was the perfect side. Fresh Italian bread completed the feast. When there is no pandemic this is a cozy spot to eat at. But it is also well worth ordering from here during the pandemic. My stomach is in agreement with that last statement.

This was our first time trying this place out. It is a small BYOB in The Mt Airy section. We learned about it from their ad on Groupon. We had reservations for 7:30 and when we arrived we were the second table in there.. the place was quiet the entire time we were there.. which was nice and secured good service for us. Our waitress was really nice + attentive. They started our meal with three small rolls and some dipping oil with balsamic. It was super odd for us when we opened up the bread basket because the rolls weren't Italian rolls or even Italian bread. They were three small rolls that could have been bought at a grocery store as a burger bun. Definitely weird way to start a meal at a place that has "Italian Kitchen" in their name. For appetizers we ordered the sausage and cauliflower and fried calamari. The sauce that came with the fried calamari was delicious and very chunky. We asked for more since it was a smaller portion and our waitress happily brought us a second serving. Oddly, the second serving was really liquidy and did not resemble the first serving whatsoever. For dinner we ordered a veal Parm and 2 chicken parm platters. Both came with homemade gnocchi... they were flexible about swapping out the pasta as well. The chicken Parm was good, the gnocchis weren't my favorite. I was told the veal parm was delicious as well. Lastly, our table ordered tiramisu. I don't eat tiramisu but I was told it was absolutely delicious. Overall, the food came out nice and hot, service was quick and portions were pretty big!

Amazing food, and even better service. The Enviormental inside the restaurant was extremely homey. It felt as though I was at a casual Sunday dinner back at home. I will definitely be back soon!

I actually celebrated my birthday here last year and this place is always a hit, never a miss! We started with the cucumber and tomato salad and the country bread, and what a delicious combination! We also ordered a side of olive oil, and they seriously have some of the best olive oil I've had in a while. I definitely recommend getting some on the side to dip your country bread in. Trust me! We paired everything with a pitcher of sangria, which gives you about four drinks and was much more economical than ordering individual cocktails. I finally tried the chicken Parmesan, and boy, am I kicking myself for not trying it sooner! The chicken breast was thick, juicy, moist, and perfectly crunchy. Some places make their chicken Parm so thin that it barely feels like you're eating chicken, but this was an actual substantial piece of chicken with the perfect bite. Our waitress told me I could swap out the pasta and sauce that normally come with the chicken Parmesan, so of course I did! I got the rigatoni with vodka sauce, and it was DELIGHTFUL. The portion was massive, so I took leftovers home and yes, I absolutely ate them the very next day! My fiancé got the branzino and wanted something lighter so he could help me with the rigatoni. His plate was beautifully presented, the fish tasted incredibly fresh, and it was exactly what he wanted. Overall, we had another wonderful experience. This restaurant will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll definitely be back! A special shoutout to our waitress, who was absolutely delightful and told me I could change the pasta and sauce with my chicken Parmesan. You changed my life! You have no idea how happy you made me. The service was good, but there was a wait both times we strolled by (Sunday and Tuesday), so would recommend making a res. The only caveat is that I would not recommend coming here with a party larger than 4 people, the restaurant is very small and rustic and can't fit a larger party. It was fine for us as we were able to push some outside tables together (and it was a beautiful evening), but I do wish we could have sat inside.

Our server apologized for a delay in taking our drink orders. She was attentive the rest of our meal. I ordered a Charles deGaulle whiskey cocktail. The dish was delicious. I enjoyed my plate of sea-inspired tonnarelli nero. Bay scallops in crab ragu with fennel sofrito. Served with squid ink pasta that imparted a slight brininess. The pasta was cooked pangrattato style-- coated in panko bread crumbs and garlic. The dish had many flavors but they all came back to the theme. Even the grilled bread used for the bruschetta tasted fresh. Arancini with pork and veal ragu peas was great; the peas added a new texture to the traditional arancini. We also got fried artichokes as an appetizer. It was crispy and salty -- I could munch on that alone. For the entree, I got the veal braciole with tagliatelle and tomato sugo. The whole dish tasted homey, like what you would get at an Italian family's house. The veal braciocle was small, and I wished there was more protein and less pasta to be more balanced. For dessert, everyone raved about their gelato. Their pistachio flavor was clearly a favorite, as it had intense fresh pistachio flavor. It was also tan in color, as you would expect a pistachio nut to be, not the artificial green color added to other pistachio gelatos. I had the amaretto cherry flavor. It was good too, although I wished it had more cherries. A few people got their espresso, and really enjoyed it. They roast their own coffee on-site, so I am not surprised again how fresh it tasted. Tip: Pour a little of their fantastic coffee over your gelato to make your own fresh affogato. I came here with a large group and despite the tight space, we felt cozy. Service was spectacular. We had multiple food allergies in the group, and the waitstaff took each one very seriously, asking down to the detail if the allergy was by consumption or cross-contamination. Thank you to the staff for being so conscientious!

cute restaurant in center city with the iconic spicy chicken caesar!…read more all i can say is: spicy chicken caesar. it lives up to the hype, and it is delicious. i've eaten here several times now and none of the other food is particularly memorable, but the spicy chicken caesar is fantastic albeit a little expensive. i really need my boyfriend to learn how to make the spicy chicken caesar so i stop coming back, but it makes for a fantastic girl dinner. most of the times i've come here were either for restaurant week or the spicy chicken caesar. i really don't think it's worth coming for restaurant week, it's kind of a bummer that your whole table has to order the same thing and that you share a lot of the dishes. it ends up being not a whole lot of food, and i did the math and the cost comes out to be about the same. overall, it's a decent restaurant with good service. it's located right in center city with a million other restaurants so it's easily overlooked, but when i think of prunella i think of spicy chicken caesar.

My favorite restaurant that I went to while visiting Philly. This place feels like being back in…read moreItaly. It is tiny inside with just a bar and a couple tables. That's it. I love this European feel. Up first, I had a $17 El Noe. I was hoping for a strong burnt mezcal taste, but nope. It seems like only Florida gets this drink right. The drink wasn't bad at all, but I was just looking for that burnt taste. I also had a $18 Dirty Pasta Water Martini, basically a dirty martini. It was fine, but it came in a micro grass which was kind of weird. Clearly this isn't a place you come for cocktails. Now, onto the star of the night, the food. Up first, the $16 Spring Salad. Loved it, hit the spot. Also, had the $17 Arancini. I really liked those little balls and especially the dipping sauce. I had the $26 Rigatoni. It was absolutely phenomenal. I could go eat it every day. My mom had the $24 Tonnarelli and it was also top tier excellent. The flavors, the atmosphere, the staff, everything here is top notch. The Internet did not let me down. I'm so glad I decided to book this restaurant. I had a wonderful night.

The rumps seasonal pasta was great and would come back for that!…read more Maybe because I had higher expectations this was a 4 for me! The antipasti we chose the crudo was not my style of sashimi pairing. They added a fish with something even more oily/heavy so it just made everything heavy and not light and fresh which I prefer. The rigatoni honestly was way too salty for my taste. With the focaccia that's mid...it was less salty. The rumps seasonal pasta was delicious and fresh tasting! The service however is amazing and the server gave the great rec of the seasonal rumps pasta!
