Being from the Chicago area there's no such thing as good pizza anywhere else in this country. Well, that is until now. Southside just upped the ante. We vacationed in Austin and discovered one of the best pizza joints we've ever eaten at outside of Chicago. We tried the location on South Congress earlier in the week and loved the food there so much we decided to give this one a try later in the week. Upon walking in, that "so good" smell just draws you in. Their slices are huge! 1/4 of a whole pizza per slice! I had the "Southsider". Loaded with pepperoni, fresh sausage, bacon and veggies, it was outstanding. Everything combined with the sauce and crisp crust knocked it out of the park. I'm getting hungry just writing about it. My wife who's not a fan of too much meat opted for the veggie slice. They loaded on the veggies and she could only eat half of the slice, it was that big. Fast and friendly staff. I'm a big supporter of Southside as I love small businesses that produce a good product. Their pizza is usually good. Tonight didn't work. I ordered a pizza and was told it would be an hour for delivery. 1 hour and 45 minutes later, the driver showed up and the pizza was cold. I had called 20 minutes before and the clerk told me it would be there any minute. I'll call somewhere else the next time I need delivery, totally unacceptable. read more

The girl who answered the phone to take my order did not even know what pizza toppings they offer (isn't the menu in plan sight of you..), and I was even more surprised that she had no clue what prosciutto or arugula were... Pizza was decent pizza but wow was the experience I had horrible. I walked into south side with my fiancé and friend and they had grotesque rap music blaring, which included songs about girls getting off and etc. luckily I have a sense of humor and laughed about it but really? How unprofessional for the business. It was the first time Iv ever been in and the last time due to that. It's not my favorite but it'll do in a pinch. I think the customer service is always wonderful but I will say that $40, for 2 large, 2 topping pizzas that look like mediums is highway robbery and it doesn't make up for it. Remember a few years ago when Domino's made a big deal about ditching their old recipes? I'm pretty sure Southside bought them. If you loved Domino's you're in for a treat. For the rest of us, not so much. I don't give a one-star review lightly. Slather some Ragu on a cold tortilla and I'd call it passable pie. Stopped in here before hitting up The Saxon Pub. I've been to their other location, this place has a few inside and outside seats, it's basically a satellite. You can custom order slices and they're HUGE and delicious! Our slices came out super fast and we had three slices and two sodas with out tab coming up to 12 bucks. Very pleased. read more

So I ordered a personal size pizza and some garlic knots online Friday night. The order confirmation said it would take an estimated 75 minutes. Well, I kind of thought it might arrive a bit before the estimated time since I live just down the street, so after about 85 minutes I decided to call and make sure my pizza was on the way. They told me that the estimated delivery time was actually 2 hours that night and my food was on the way. Well, I ended up waiting about 2 and 1/2 hours, and was really feeling like coming on yelp and complaining by that point! But when the delivery guy arrived, he was extremely nice and apologetic, explaining that after he left the store he realized they made the wrong pizza and he had to turn around and get them to remake it. They ended up giving me a medium pizza and a cheesecake brownie to make up for it! I thought that was really cool and totally made up for the long wait. Honestly, if they hadn't done all of that then I probably would have decided not to order from them again. But since they were so accommodating, I definitely plan to give then my business in the future! It would be cool, though, if they could figure out how to have the online confirmation email reflect a real time delivery time estimate. Also, the garlic knots were not very good. Ordered a pizza, the girl who answered didnt know anything about the toppings. I called right back after ordering to change a topping. Was told NO very angrily by a man and hung up on. I used to date a dude who made pies here, and I know it's good food. So last night after seeing Bob Schneider at Saxon I wandered over to grab a late night slice. The guy behind the counter had chin length blue hair and he told me that a slice was gonna cost me seven something dollars. I told him to forget it as I eyed the last slice of veggie pizza that had been sitting there for who knows how long. It was right before closing. My blue haired friend decides to give me it for half off, like a true gentleman. But really, why is a slice so much? It's not that big and hearty... y'all should also have them always be half off after a certain time if you're going to change that much for one. Sheesh. Cheers to the blue haired guy. Got to try the pasta dishes and they were great! The chicken and meatball Parms are pretty good also! I usually take them home and throw them in the oven for another 10-15 minutes (don't forget to ask for xtra cheese!) as I like mine a little over-done. read more

I've had pizza from the South Lamar location twice now and both times have left my wife and I thinking that there is a hidden laxative in their ingredients. Very strange but two times in a row now? As per the pizza itself: It's good but you only 8 average size slices in a large. I will probably stick with Giovanni's (at Valero on south Lamar). I stopped coming here for awhile because the employees were sometimes abrasive and rude. The manager hooked me up with a free entree in hopes that I'd check them out again. I'm happy to report the experience was very positive, everyone at the location was super friendly and upbeat this time around. The food was great, as usual. The buffalo oven baked chicken wings with a side of gorgonzola are actually friend plain chicken wings with a side of hot sauce and no gorganzola. I've had their Gluten Free crust in the past and liked it, but today it was just soggy and gross. I also ordered the cookie which was pretty bad as well. The only part of it that was tasty was the chocolate chip. Def not worth the money I paid and delivery took an hour. I was very excited to try this place. I am a huge pizza fan and I heard decent things about SSFP. Unfortunately, I was extremely underwhelmed. Firstly, the pizza was pricey. We paid by the slice and I thought it would be reasonable but I was very wrong. I was shocked by paying almost $30 for 2 slices of pizza and a side salad. But then I thought, well maybe the pizza is really good and maybe it will be worth it. It was NOT. It took a long time to receive our pizza and the pizza we got was soggy, thin and greasy. It can be a challenge to find a good, standard pizza in Austin for quick carry-out. Southside is probably the best combination of speed and quality. The pizza is solid, pretty cheap and you aren't going to have to wait in line or struggle for parking. The best menu item they offer is the garlic knots. They are the best garlic knots I've had in Austin. If you need to grab a pie for a Saturday on the couch I would highly recommend Southside. read more

I decided to give this place a try not setting myself up for high hopes, being from nyc I find any pizza place outside my city as mediocre. Looking for a pizza fix went wrong today. I ordered a large pepperoni and a side order of garlic knots. The pizza was too chewy and tasted like cheese and butter, I've had cheessie bread that had more pizza flavor than this. The sauce was none existing, pizza was kinda under cooked and the overwhelming butter taste threw me off. The garlic knots where definitely undercooked, so bad I can take one apart and re-massage it and treated it like clay. This was my first time at this location but never going back, unless is free and I feel like playing with raw dough . I love Austin TX but they think too much of their food in this town, is not all that great, mediocre at best except for the tacos, tacos is a big staple of Austin. I'm just glad the topping was pepperoni and not Chicken, raw Chicken is no joke. read more

So typical sunday afternoon, I want to settle in and watch some football and eat pizza. I know its sunday so I take the care to order my pizza early so it gets here in time to still watch football. After the hour I expected there is a knock on the door, pizza time. Pizza is 100% wrong. Now i'm left food less, they offered to send another but with an hour wait time what's the point football would be over and i'm to hungry to wait that long. One of the basic things with food delivery is get it right. Its not like i could pick off the offending toppings as I am allergic to them. We first discovered Southside Flying PIzza at ACL Fest, where they serve wonderful pizza at a great price. So, when one opened near us, we decided to try it. There are a whole lot of pizza places on South Lamar, and many are better than Southside Flying Pizza but few are cheaper. But, what sets this place apart is the staff. The guy who seems to always be there is grouchy, grumpy, RUDE, and (really) just an a-hole. He seems to think he's doing you a favor when he 1) answers the phone, 2) takes your order, 3) makes your pizza, 4) rings up your sale, and 5) hands you your food. The last time I called he was rude on the phone and hung up when I was still talking to him. Then he was rude ("pissed off," is the best way to describe it) at the restaurant - no greeting, ignored my question, slammed the cash drawer, didn't offer any cheese/pepper or a receipt, and didn't say anything (like "thank you") or acknowledge I had thanked him. It shouldn't be this stressful to buy a pizza!!! read more
