I had fish and my companion had the lamb. The fish was so full of sauce I really didn't like it. My companion enjoyed her lamb very much. Awesome dinner last evening. I had Mariscada salsa Verde and my wife Paella marinera. Both were seafood dishes. Huge scallops were cooked to perfection. Clams, mussels, shrimp and lobster were also in it and delicious. Appetizers were mushroom caps stuffed with sea food for my wife and I had an octopus salad. The octopus salad reminded me of herring in a wine sauce. Again, these were delicious. For dessert, I had coconut sorbet with a Spanish Coffee and wife had cheesecake and Liquor 46. I had heard good things and wanted to try this place for awhile. Had an opportunity finally and looked forward to a great meal. Ordered one of the Paella dishes (which was served with a side of potato chips, why I don't have a clue) Bland, generic rice with dried out chicken, Pepperidge farm like sausage slices and obviously frozen seafood. Boxed it up, took it home. My husband who will eat a meal out of a can would not eat it. Owner was pushy and rushed us. There was only us and one other table in the whole place. While avoiding horrible traffic heading to the airport on I-78, the car service driver took a side road. We subsequently passed Spain Inn 2 and he remarked that the food was quite good. Several weeks later while driving the family back home to PA, we decided to try it. SO GLAD WE DID. The service was warm and friendly. The food was authentic, delicious and abundant! Had dinner there recently for the first time in 5 years and found it disappointing. The bread with garlicky dipping oil was the best thing we ate. The red sangria was good, not great (apples seemed to be the only fresh fruit in the pitcher). The artichoke "hearts" appetizer was OK (and not really hearts; instead were small artichokes halved and covered with some light vinegary dressing). I ordered the shrimp main course that was billed as the "signature dish" of the house: the shrimp were horribly overcooked. (You don't know how to properly cook the signature dish? This is what really prompted me to write this review.) The flan was horrible; hard to believe that they made it in house. It tasted old. The staff was very attentive and deserving of a good gratuity (which they received). I don't see us going back there. read more

This was my second time at this establishment. We had called at 4 with reservations for 730. We had arrived at 730 and was told it would be a half hour. We waited a little over one hour and other customers without reservations were seated before us. We were not happy with that. That however is the only complaint. Our server made up for it by giving us a free appetizer. The food is amazing exactly what you would expect. The service from the head server is second to none. Bathrooms are clean, bar is nice, their wine selection is great. Ask for a fired up brandy! read more

Entire experience was horrible. Went to the spain inn 2 on 1/14/11. it wasnt overly crowded but we parked in the back lot behind the restaurant. there is a flight of stairs you need to walk up to get to the front of the building. the door to the stairs was nailed shut so we had to walk a long way around. (hope there are no elderly folks parking back there) got seated promptly but it took them 40MINUTES to take our order. then took another hour to receive our food. i had the 2 large shishcabobs at 28.95. there was twice as much veggies as there was meat. and seemed like it was sitting around for a while. we dropped 120.00 for 2 of us and i wished I had just gone to applebees! oh, and the desert guy came to offer us our desert choices (supposed to happen after the meal) and we hadnt even ordered our main course yet. read more

Valentine's Day! Made a reservation for 8pm three weeks ago. When I showed up I had to wait 45 minutes for my table, along with about 10 other couples who also had reservations. It really appears that they don't actually take down the reservation info. I was looked at like I had 2 heads, they had no idea of anyone's name. Worse than that, a couple came in and knew the owner. He greeted them in front of the other waiting couples and told him he would haven a table for him in 5 minutes! A few of us spoke up and said we would leave if that happened. The owner ignored us completely. The lady in the couple that knew the owner was embarrassed and agreed not to take a table before the waiting people. Thank you for having manners, who ever you were. The food and service were good, but not worth waiting 45 minutes when you have a reservation. I can't say I would never go back, but I sure lost a lot of respect for that place and the owner. Why take reservations if you really don't care enough to honor them. Not even a, "sorry about the wait". Cram it! Next time I will go the Warren Side! read more

Everytime I go there, the food is always phenomenal and the staff is very accomodating. Their red sangria is some of the best I've tried. It's a place is go to for a special occasion since it's a bit on the pricy side but I think it's worth every penny. Had such a wonderful meal! Friend recommended, & we came from Hackettstown for an early birthday meal... we got two appetizers (for the 3 of us) - sliced sausages & shrimp plates. Wow, we could have just had those for dinner-there was so much! We had two different paella dishes - mine was Paella Valenciana... so much seafood - lobster tail, shrimp, mussels, scallops, plus pieces of chicken! Baked in a hot plate w/rice - was delicious! My wife had the Patagonia toothfish (Chilean sea bass) & it tasted great too! I think this was the 3rd time in my life I couldn't finish & I "had" to take some home (it was lunch today)! Great meal for all 3 of us. Manager came by 3 times to make sure we were doing great, waitresses were timely & made reccs that we appreciated (& ate). Wish we had room for the desserts! Going back next visit to our NJ friend! Highly recommend. In fact, just spoke to sister in law & told her we were going there during her next visit. It's nice to have a great Spanish restaurant in Hunterdon County. I had always gone to the Spain Inn in Piscataway when I lived close to that location. So I was happy when they opened one Hunterdon County. The Shrimp in garlic sauce is always delicious as is their red wine sangria. read more

In a word: dreadful. The drinks are overpriced and the food is simply AWFUL. You'll get better seafood at a diner or scraped out of the bottom of a freezer. I got filet of sole with shrimp which cost a whopping $26 and it was worse than a Mrs. Gordon fish stick. The "lemon sauce" looked like yellow snot. Went to Spain Inn with my girlfriend and her parents last night. We planned to sit down for dinner at 6:30, but running late I ended up getting there at 7:10. That said it still wasn't until 7:30 that we got seated. So yeah, should have called ahead for reservations, that's on us. However after we had sat down and ordered, it was another hour before we even got our food. Bread wasn't too hot, but the oil served with it was classic. I ordered the Ternera Madrilena (hoping I remembered the spelling from last night) and it was pretty meh. My girlfriends parents ordered a steak and the seafood delight and my girlfriend had breaded breast chicken sautéed in some kind of mushroom sauce. Both my and my girlfriends chicken were made basically the same, breaded chicken covered in a sauce that made the breaded chicken saturated with it. If that's your thing, great, by we both thought the texture was pretty nasty though the flavorings weren't bad. All my girlfriends dad talked about though was how much better some Portuguese restaurants were over in Newark, and complained that the seafood delight was hardly authentic (he's from the island so he would really know). Maybe it's more akin to the food in Spain rather than the islands but I digress. Finished with a dessert (I had coffee myself) and by all accounts that was good. Finished off with a complimentary shot of wine which was a pretty good dessert wine too. Long story short, not coming back. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing (had 4 hanging kabobs go pash our table that looked really good) but for the price I can get better authentic Spanish/Portuguese elsewhere. read more

A great little hidden gem on a back country road. I often forget about this restaurant when deciding where to eat dinner because of this! The kabobs are excellent, as is the sangria and the homemade chips! Always a great dining experience here. The service is wonderful, very doting without being overwhelming. It can get a little pricey for a casual dinner but it is well worth it! read more

Very disappointing. The special seafood dish of the day yesterday was not special at all. Food was tepid in some parts & cold in others. This "lobster" piece was extremely tiny & 2 of the four "large" mussels were minuscule even though in a large shell. The signature potatoes were cold & greasy. We made reservations ahead of time and our table was ready as soon as we arrived. The wait staff is some of the best in the area. They were extremely knowledgeable and made sure our experience was awesome and that we had everything we needed throughout our whole dinner. The service was great. The waiter and wait staff, very formal and professional. Suggestion is to arrive early for dinner. Food overall was good, with the paella being the exception. Fresh crusty baked bread with garlic dipping oil. Garlic soup was thick, rich and flavorful. The Spain Inn meat kabob skewers were good with the bacon wrapped filet mignon being tender and juicy. Seafood stuffed mushroom appetizer, could have used slightly larger mushrooms. Valencia paella was a bit disappointing due to the rice used and way it was cooked/flavored. Seems they use instant or parboiled flavored yellow rice in the dish as a shortcut. Rice did not carry the seafood or other meats flavor. I was expecting the paella to be more authentic in that regard, to cooking process and flavor, but it can feed 2-3. Side dish given of yellow rice tasted exactly like the paella rice. Flan dessert was really good. It could have been 5 stars, but the big menu item paella and rice failed to impress. read more

I was in a group of six. We all enjoyed are apps and entrees. There was a app special of avocados stuffed with shrimp scallops, very good. The calamari app was just ok. The portobello app was just ok well. Three of us had the Paella entree and it was good according to my fellow guests. Two of us had the Chilean sea bass, the fish was cooked great, but the flavor in the overall dish was just ok. Our other guest had the stuffed Mahi Mahi and he said it was good. Yes, this place is very loud. We could barely hear our server or each other. Kind of Sucked not being able to have a normal volume conversation. Our server, a male wasn't very attentive to our table. Took him a long while to take our drink order, then even longer to take our food order. The bread was very good, thank God because we needed it at that point. After getting our meals he never came back to ask if everything was ok, nor did he ever ask if we needed more drinks, so we settled for water. Service isn't always everything about a restaurant for me. But when you are spending close to $100 per couple you expect good service. After we were done eating, our table was cleared, then eventually a new table cloth a put on our table, not sure why. Then the water/bread girl asked us is we wanted desert. I guess our waiter couldn't be bothered. Then we waited forever to get the check. Once we were ready to pay the guy shows up in record time. Not sure I would go back with the overall experience. Too many places to go where you can get better service and food. I think we pulled the bad waiter at this place, the others seemed more attentive to their tables. Good luck if you go here. read more

Been going here for many years, always very pricey but worth the quality of food that you got. I always get the most expensive item on the menu, twin stuffed lobsters, three times ago the lobster stuffing was cold, next time despite my feelings we went back againand the lobster was overcooked and burned!went back to third time on New Years Eve ordered twins stuff lobsters again like usual only to find out they only had twins stuff tales when I asked for lobsters! it was never brought to my attention that what I asked for was not on the menu tonight until they brought the food out. normally its 38 dollars for my meal New Years Eve was $45 and they were missing the rest of the lobsters very disappointed I will never go back again and I understand its new years but very disappointed with the price gouging!!!!! read more
