A warm ,inviting, traditional atmosphere with attentive, friendly service made a really pleasant evening. Dinner was delicious with lots of interesting and varied Spanish and Portuguese choices on the menu. This restaurant is near my best friend's house. I've visited it a few times. She has had parties for her children there, and we have also been there for dinner. The restaurant is nice, and the service has always been wonderful. My best friend is a regular here so the waiters and owner take very good care of her. The food that is served at parties is also the same quality of food ordered off of the regular dining menu. The seafood is simply delicious, and the other items on the menu taste authentic. LMy sister chose this for a family dinner while I was visiting the area. Not knowing what to expect, it was amazingly impressive! First, the service is pretty impeccable in a comfortable dining room. The menu consists of a huge variety of fresh seafood, ample steaks and chops, and combination skewers. We enjoyed a pitcher of house made red sangria and appetizers of garlicky shrimp and crispy calamari. Delish. I had to photo the dishes as they came out. Veal Porterhouse, Stuffed Lobster, Veal Madrilena, Chicken en Salsa de Vino and my New York Strip with Portobello mushrooms. The sides were a simple rice dish and house made chips, the thicker style. They were good but not terribly necessary. My dinner was served with fresh broccoli crowns. Everything was fabulous, through the cheesecake that we all shared, and almond liqueur. My one complaint: I had scads of those fabulous mushrooms leftover with about half of my steak, but only three slices made it into my go-box. I was really looking forward to making omelettes with those mushrooms and it's always an incredible waste when the entire plateful isn't packed up. Sad. It's usually my nature to pack them up myself, but I let the bus person, out of view. I would gladly return to Spain Inn 2, recommend it for any occasion, and pack my own box ;) read more

I called 3 weeks in advance and asked for a table for 2 by the window. I didn't get it at 5 PM on a Sunday. I ordered twin lobsters which were supposed to be 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pounds and got what looked like 2 3/4 pound lobsters they serve with the paella. The lobster was extremely dry and stringy. For $42,95 I am STILL SEETHING. The lobsters were also served warm, not hot...even though there were only 8 other people in the restaurant at the time. My son ordered a NY strip that was supposed to be a prime cut. It looked like a London broil, I have NEVER SEEN a NY Strip look like this, and it was without any spice whatsoever. For $45.95 the "Matador" was all bull. I am extremely disappointed with my visit there, and believe the restaurant owes me an apology for the lousy food which was terribly overpriced for what we got. When the best part of the meal was the flan we had for dessert, there's something wrong. I hope the owner reads this review and calls me, just look at the reservation book. I am giving it 2 stars ONLY because the service was excellent, the head waiter charming, and the wait staff attentive. For food only, I would have grudgingly given it 1 star.. I feel totally ripped off! PS I passed a table on my way out where the diner also had a single lobster that DID look to be the appropriate size. That made me even more angry.... read more

Went for Valentines Day dinner over the weekend. The waiter for extremely rude. Rolling his eyes when we only want one app for the table and then more attitude later when we didn't want to take shots. The shrimp was over cooked and the rest of the food had no flavor. Will not be back. read more

In a warm October Saturday night in NJ and I was invited to this Spain restaurant located in Asbury town of west NJ near route 78, As we drove in it was dark and it appears to be a residential area. When we got there the parking lot was almost full and we had to wait about 20minutes to before we can sit on a nice corner table. When the food came in especially the Payaya I was stunned - i could not even find a word to describe how delicious it is!! Not to mention the warm and professional service from the waiter and waitress. Great bar setting and classic decorations made me feel want to come back. It worth every minute of the long drive! Came here for Valentines Day. We ate a the bar. The atmosphere was very nice. The restaurant was very clean and well staffed. We had the Mariscada Salsa Verde. It was full of seafood and a rich creamy sauce that complimented the clams,mussels,scallops, shrimp and lobster. It was served with potato slices and saffron rice. Excellent meal!!! This quaint restaurant is just off the road in a quiet, rural location. It has a nice, inviting atmosphere (I wouldn't say warm as they were blasting the A/C) with delicate music and mellow chatter. I was part of a party of 4, and 3 dishes sufficed; we ordered 2 mariscadas and 1 paella valenciana. I'm a seafoodie, and I could not have been happier. I only expected larger lobster portions, but I was full nonetheless. For dessert, my friend excitedly ordered the sliced ice cream as he had thought it was delicious the last time he came. It was very easily the worst ice cream I've ever had; they really need to buy a different brand of neapolitan. The texture was weird and did not feel like ice cream. The strawberry portion was awful; it did not feel well mixed at all. I could taste gross bursts of excessive strawberry flavoring, and the entire slice was a bit powdery overall (it was not the cinnamon that they use to embellish the plate). I can't speak for the other desserts, but I strongly discourage anyone from ordering the ice cream! Regardless, I'd happily come back for the seafood. read more

Everyone raves about this place but I don't get it. We have come here 2 times and both were awful. We ordered so many different items steak, paella, calamari even shrimp and all of it was awful. We had a rare night out without our daughter and figured we'd go to a more "adult" establishment. Just moved to the area and hadn't been there yet. It was pretty busy, and we had no res so we ended up having to hang at the bar for almost exactly the 10 minutes we were told, which is cool. Everyone was very friendly and the service was solid throughout the meal, I wish I could say that every time I go out to eat, lol. We got seated and there were a couple groups having lively dinners, with lots of "woohoos" and that sort of thing. It was REALLY loud in there and we really had to raise our voices to hear each other. Not a horrible thing, but if that's not what you like in a dining experience yo8u may want to reconsider. High ceilings and nothing separating the tables in the main dining room will do that. The food was not bad, but definitely seemed a little "phoned in". Nothing was a real wow, I had the Camarones Enchilados which was fairly spicy (which I like), but other than heat and salt, it didn't really stand out. My wife had the filet which was a nice size and well prepared to a medium rare just like she asked, but again, the flavor profile was a bit dull as were the accompaniments. Where it all really fell apart was the flan, which we both ordered. You would think a Spanish restaurant would totally rock the flan, but mine was overcooked and VERY firm. My wife's was even more so to the point where I was surprised they even served it. We didn't hate it, but we probably won't be back either. read more

BEST BEST BEST - We've been here four times now- brand new to the area- and this is one of our favorites! Steak on a stone - stuffed lobster - DUCK out of this world like really the duck is the best I've had EVER. Must have of course the garlic shrimp (we even ordered one to go at the end of our meal). Beyond that though is the excellent level of service the owner and staff provide each and every time. They are attentive yet not intrusive and each one of them seems to be proud of their guests and eager to please. Fantastic family run restaurant. You are first hit with the wonderful aroma when you enter the parking lot and it keeps getting better. Something for everyone on the menu and the seafood is delicious. Also have daily specials and plenty of steak/chicken dishes on menu. Worth the trip!! read more

The gazpacho andaluz is out of this world, perfectly chilled and refreshing, but not cold. The flavors are assertive, bright, and well balanced. I couldn't tell you what is in it beyond tomato, roasted red pepper, cucumber, onion, and parsley, but I will go back for that soup forever. For my main, I chose the medio bistek de lomo, a giant NY strip steak. It was beautifully cooked, well seasoned, and delicious. I could only eat a third of it, but I will be happy to eat the rest on top of greem salads. I'm not sure how table service works, as have only ever dined at the bar, but the host is charming and attentive. The portions are generous and appropriately priced. I will be returning. read more

Very disappointed last night, 7/18. Party of 7, all the food came out, and my veal chop, which was ordered medium rare, was well done. It also looked like a fat pork chop. The waiter, who is a real nice guy and has been there forever, realized immediately when he looked at the meat that is was not med/rare. Although he offered to replace it, I chose not to have another dinner brought out. With 6 other people eating their dinners, I figured that by the time my dinner came out, everyone would be finished eating anyway. Most of the appetizers were ok, greasy, or dry, but ok. i've had better, and probably will not ever go back. the waiter was great, very apologetic and all, but at the end of the day, if after being open for so long, you don't know the difference between medium rare and well done, it's really not worth going, in my opinion. read more

Offering Spanish "good eats" and amazing sangria, the dining experience is warm, joyful and full of great food. Bring your fat pants! P.S. - I'd recommend this one over the Piscataway location for ambiance ... I'd take the Piscataway one over this one for the food quality (both are excellent however). read more

There Chicken in Garlic sauce on the bone is to die for - love it, also have had their Steak on the stone - was fabulous - everything we have had there was very good, the staff is friendly and accommodating - always a good experience - several months ago friends suggested this place and we've been going ever since and are planning to go next month for a birthday event....Love their bar area - low lighting - flat screen TV and blue martini glasses (nice touch) - very nice bar to hang with a group or just your honey....give it a try - you won't be disappointed... read more

Lovely dining experience! Food was DELICIOUS. We ate kabobs, seafood pot in green sauce & shrimp enchiladas. Ok, I did receive the wrong enchilada. They have two on the menu and maybe I wasn't clear. The one I got was excellent! The kabobs were amazing! They arrive at the table on hanging skewers which really makes the dining a little more fun. Kudos for that! They had a stuffed portobello appetizer which included two enormous mushroom caps topped with a delicious pure seafood (no fillers) and cheese. 3 of us shared this and it was a hearty appetizer. We took food home.... No room for any of the enticing desserts. The service was also excellent. We had no less than four people coming by the table to check on us. But it was very casual and not intrusive. We loved it! There is SO little quality dining out in this area that we are happy to have this option. I'm glad they survive the economic decline. The place was fairly busy last night so I think they're doing OK. May be the best news for us is that they also have a children's menu now with for staple offerings for the little ones like chicken fingers and pasta. We've avoided this spot because our youngest is such a picky eater, and he had other plans last night. Now we know we can go as a family! It's typically on the expensive side for this type of cuisine. I wouldn't say overpriced. Keep up the great cooking and lovely service. read more
