Splash is super fun! The music is my favorite part. They have very good DJs who play great dancing music. Their patio area gets crowded really early and its a smoker's paradise, but still great. The bartenders are very nice and attentive. The drinks are a little expensive but they usually pour very well os you don't need many in order to have fun. Monday's are a great day to go because it's $1 well drinks. The clientele are very kind but some can be very pushy. It's easy to tell them to go away many times. Haven't had a bad night there, especially if you go with the right people. Overall great gay bar to dance at if your straight or LGBT+ friendly. read more

I've gone to splash many times and I've been to many other gay bars. These are the weakest drinks I've ever gotten at a gay bar and I've been overcharged where the bar tender thought I was drunk and wouldn't notice. They also do this thing called club papi where it's Mexican night but you have no idea. All of a sudden they're only playing bad Mexican music, I don't even get a J Balvin song. On the nights my gay best friend doesn't want to drive out to the Castro, this spot usually does the job. Be warned, CASH ONLY! And Friday/Saturdays they usually charge a cover. Luckily, there is an ATM inside. They have both an upstairs and downstairs, but I guess on Sundays (or maybe just that night) they close it? They make nice, stiff drinks here too and if you're lucky, the jello shot boy is walking around with strong ass jello shots for a few bucks. As a gay man in San Jose, it is always exciting when a new gay bar opens. Splash has potential to be quite influential in the gay community in San Jose, but it will close if it continues on the path it is currently on. When I compare the bar to Brix, it pales in comparison. Brix does not charge a cover on the weekends, Splash charges $7, Yes, Splash has a decent San Franciscoesque feel to it, but have you ever heard of a bar that makes you wait a half hour to go upstairs (where the bathrooms are located) because it is at capacity? The bartenders here are the worst I have ever encountered. Every single time they pour me a cocktail, I ask them to put more liquor into them. I have been in this industry for longer than I care to admit, and I always watch pour counts. They cheat you every single time. That's enough for me to want to set this bar on fire. Overall, just skip this place, it's really lame and they have no business in my community. Go to Brix, talk their great bartenders, they will actually get you drunk and not waste your time.. 1 star for a pathetic excuse for a nightclub. read more

We were here on Monday (10.18) night for my friend's birthday. We come here every once in while on Monday nights because of the $1 drinks. Last night was extra special because of my friend's birthday, 20 of his friends showed up. The birthday boy already had a few drinks before midnight and was tipsy BUT he was not making a commotion or fight with anyone. He was harmless. We decided to go downstairs at 1145pm to sing happy birthday for him at midnight. We reached the ground floor and the birthday boy was leaning his head on my shoulder and whispering to me that he saw his ex upstairs- all of a sudden this black bouncer came up to us and told me that my friend needs to go because he's too drunk. I explained that he's not too drunk, he's tipsy and it's his birthday, we just want to sing at midnight - BUT NO, he kicked us out even though my friend was not making a scene. To my understanding, you get kick out IF you are too much to handle or started to have a fight. But my friend was completely harmless. So, thank you bouncer (black male) for ruining my friend's birthday. You could've let us stay til midnight for his actual bday-- the reason why we went there on the eve of his birthday. Finally checked this spot out and it sure did not disappoint. Being one of the few gay clubs in San Jose, this place definitely gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Keep in mind on those nights there's usually a cover charge and yesss it is a CASH ONLY establishment. The bf and I enjoy the friendly atmosphere and pretty decently priced drinks. My absolute favorite part about the place is the outside patio area on the 2nd floor and of course the music selection. This place is aight. We have been here a couple times and we had fun because we seriously have fun together....anywhere but the environment was slow and took a long time to pick up. I think we ended up leaving after a while and heading to some other place. Maybe we go to early cause we're growing into old farts and out of the sweaty, hazy club scene. Where do I begin? I walk into splash and was greeted by this young gentlemen that had a horrible attitude. He asks us if we want VIP or a regular entrance the difference was you got to meet the drag queen for $5 extra dollars (Cash ONLY). So we choose VIP and headed to the bar. Once we got to the bar we were greeted by a woman that also had a bad attitude. She was impatient and rude. We ordered our drinks and I handed her my card. Wrong Idea. She rolled her eyes and said CASH ONLY. Every bar I've been to accepts credit card. Anywho; after her telling us cash only I asked if there was an ATM she pointed towards the front and rudely took our drinks back as if we weren't going to pay. Once I arrived to the ATM I took $60. I'm not sure if the ATM was also being a rude bi$&!? Lol but it only gave me $40. I continued going back to the person charging at the entrance and letting him know what happened and his response was astonishing. He said "what do you want me to do about it?" And continued saying "I'll call my manager" after I had asked him to stop being rude. My experience at this place was horrible. Employees were rude. Watered down drinks and rude bartenders aside, they let too many people in. Especially for show nights. They rely on security to yell at people to make space in a super crowded space with no stage. They are lucky that they are the only gay club in south bay. That's the sole reason they stay in business. It's not merit, that's for sure. read more

Splash used to be our go-to weekend spot! Last night, we payed our cover of $7 around 11 pm and received our stamp. We proceeded to have fun, buy a couple of drinks throughout the night. Once 1:30 am came around, we went upstairs to the patio to get some air and talk to people. That's when a security guard cuts across the crowd and starts screaming at my friend and I, accusing us of sneaking in through the back door and threatening to call the cops and ban us from splash forever. (We later found out the security guy's name is DANIEL). He said we snuck in with the guy who was next to us (we had just met him) but instead of targeting the guy he was blaming, he screams at us making a scene. We were so shocked! Appalled even and incredibly embarrassed. We proceeded to tell DANIEL that we had arrived around 11 pm, had been here for a while, and that we had our stamps. We showed him our stamps and he screamed at us, calling us liars. We thought he was on something, his eyes were crazy and his pupils seemed to be dilated. We looked at the guy next to him with the security jacket but he was ignoring us. We left and he forced us outside the back door. We thought we were done with DANIEL by that point but he proceeded to yell at us even more, threatening again to check the recording from the security cameras and to place a ban on my friend and I. We told him to go check the tape and that we'd be happy to check it with him so he would have proof that he had mistaken us for someone else. At this point he was getting aggressive and I was scared he was going to throw my friend against the trash cans! Talk about racial profiling in a joint that is supposed to be inclusive. We were so embarrassed and disheartened by our treatment at splash. At the end of the night, we spoke with the head of security Jay. He was very nice and recognized us! I would give Jay 5 stars. Splash used to be our go to spot! We spent at least $100 any time we're here. Thanks to Daniels' actions we will no longer go to Splash and neither will our friends. To be humiliated and experience racial profiling in this sort of establishment is disgusting. read more

This place is a great place to go out with friends I use to always come here but I had the worst experience last Saturday this security guard which was a girl idk her name but she accused me and my friends drinking on there property my friend was drinking a water and I was drinking a lemonade. And she said we can't come in when we were not even on there property drinking and even at that we weren't drinking alcohol. She even tried to fight with my friend because she was using snapchat & she thought we were recording her when clearly we weren't. She's so rude and disrespectful I will never ever come to this bar ever again. They should fire her for not having respect and then I would come back again but it's whatever. Since the remodeling Splash has never looked better! I went here for a night out, even though it's really nice and under new management it's not what I expected! First off they make you wait outside for like 20 minutes and when you get it it's not even packed! The drinks are over priced and watered down! Oh and the music is not what it used to be!!!!! Just techno beats all night!!!! Well I'm lying not all night the last 30 minutes they played some good hip hop! That's when the party started! Lol I miss the old splash! They actually smoke upstairs on the adjoining patio and that is not allowed. I can't stand cigarettes. It is nice to go outside to get a breathe of fresh air because the sound system is sooo bad it is nothing more than distorted noise. They think they have a great sound system but it is not set up correctly. Yes, the music is very dated but what difference does it make it sounds like a garbage disposal anyways. The elevator only works if you ask some one to get a key and turn it on every time you need to go up and down. I have been there with handicapped people and they just hate the place. Hard to believe the City approved this. The good side, the people, the bartenders, the drinks and the location. That alone gave them the 2 stars otherwise it would be a complete zero. read more

I've come to Splash multiple times before and I've enjoyed myself every time. Just last night (08/31/19) however it was a different story and enough for to insure I wouldn't be coming back. Alyssa Edwards from RuPaul's Drag Race was there and I was so stoked! I got there early with my friends and we didn't mind that there wasn't a lot of people of there yet. It was only 8 pm after all. I went up to order a drink with my friend and when I turned to ask her what she wanted which could not have taken more than 10 seconds the bartender rudely said to me "listen I'm gonna move on if you don't give me an answer." What the hell is that? The bar was not that busy by anyone's standard. I wouldn't even be upset if the execution wasn't so damn rude. The DJ was amazing one of the worst I've ever heard. No one needs that many 90's slow jams ever. I went from excited to annoyed to bored to completely indifferent and I know this is one of only few negative reviews so it won't impact whether or not you choose to go but just be prepared to be bored for however long you're planning to be there. We come every Monday for power hour and if you are gay and haven't been yet. This is primetime for bay area gay couples. We love the staff because they have always been very nice and organized. I just wish they played better music sometimes the dj is on point and other times he makes us leave early with a techno twist track. Overall we do miss Brix but as an alternative option this is an amazing Monday or Saturday night gay or straight clubber experience. Malay is my all time fav and she is so funny!!! Last night was a special night for me . I had childhood cancer in my skull when I was a kid and now every year I celebrate my remission annivercery by going to karaoke . It's a tradition I started when I lived in San Francisco and used to go to the mint . All my friends kept telling me , go to Splash , go to Splash , so I finally went to splash . I walked in , found a song in the song book tipped the KJ and turned in my song then went to the bar . There was only one bartender , but that's really all that was needed because the bar was not that busy . The bartender was so busy talking to her friends that she never noticed me , so I walked over to the well where she was talking to her friends and stood in line and waitied to be served . She put a coaster down like she was going to serve me but then kept talking to the two attractive young women she was flirting with at one point turning her back to me to talk to another girl in the corner who just sang an Adele song . I left the bar , went back to my friends and sat there drinkless for three songs then went back to the bar . Once again ignored ! I went to the KJ told him I was leaving and why and then drove to King Of Clubs in Mt View . I ended up getting my first drink of the night at 12:35 am at King Of Clubs , by that time september 24th was over and so was my annivercery . i have never had such horrible sevice , sorry If my wanting to spend money in your bar got in the way of your social life ! and for those of you who feel like singing on a monday night , King Of Clubs has better service and there song book is three times thicker !!!! read more

I was visiting San Jose for work. While at dinner, I asked around on what the "best gay bar" was to check-out. The response was "Splash is the only "best gay bar" we have. So, I thought why not. If I could give the rating a zero instead of a 1 star I would. First off, they charge an $8 cover for a bar (size and amenities) that should definitely be free. Then, the bar is cash only. This is not only extremely inconvenient from a customer service & experience standpoint, it is also a way for the bar to "double charge" their patrons by making all or a portion of the surcharge fee from their ATM. (This is just bad business!). I was hoping it would get better...nope. After watching the bar staff do liquor inventory (while the bar was open and past 10PM at night) while ignoring their customers, then the bartender finally took our order after we stood at the bar for almost 10 minutes with no acknowledgement or service. We ordered two well vodka sodas and it was $16 -- yes, $8.50 a piece for the cheapest well vodka. Finally, the so-called "go-go" dancers and shot boys should never be in those positions on a Friday night. If you want that vibe, then find real hot guys or hire them from a modeling/dance agency. And, to top it off, the bar was filled with girls -- almost (if not) a 50/50 ratio. it did not feel like a gay bar at all. I felt like I had gone to a bar with an identity crisis! Overall, this was a horrible experience. I would not recommend this bar to someone looking for a good time and I am even more sad for San Jose residents that this is their "best gay bar" option. read more

I am beyond sorry for those of you in SJ that have this place as your "go to" club. Having visited this place on several DIFFERENT occasions I can honestly say that..I am so happy I do not live here. My honest assessment: The "DJ" or retarded jukebox constantly struggles to figure out how to blend one song into another. Really...this is someone's business....and they aren't even doing it WELL. It's like the only hairdresser in town...sure they do shit haircuts but where else are you going to go? Luckily, a few locals I met at Brix were heading here and suggested that I come with them to check it out. I'm glad I did, as this is the best San Jose gay bar I've been to in the last few years. The two nights I went, the top floor was busy without being uncomfortably crowded; the bottom floor was mellower, nice for when I needed a break. Decent pop music and a diverse, friendly crowd made for a good time. The outdoor space was a nice plus on a warm night. Stopped by last night to check out the newly renovated spot. After being closed for so long, I was expecting a lot more. But granted, they did re-open it. Size is the same as before. Décor is more modern. The bar that use to be located on the right when you walk in, is now on the left. Which is probably best due to space. Music last night was ehh, walked upstairs, still the same to me just upgraded to flat screen tvs all over inside and out. I am so glad that Splash has Karaoke, the dj had every song that I wanted to sing and the dj told me that if he didn't have the song I wanted to sing, he would go out and get it how great is that now. I like the sound system of the karaoke which makes the singer sound live ok so its not American Idol but very close. Great times at Splash. i love it here and we always do. i just recently went to splash to celebrate my bday with a couple of my friends and it goes to show every time i visit their always something new happening. This time it was a drag show and i have to say i love it. i brought a date with me and it was his first time attending a drag show so he really enjoyed every moment of it. all of us had the best experience on Saturday, prior to getting a little buzz after a drink or two but totally worth it. Happy Hrs are my favorite more bang for your buck, with two floors to walk around and and patio on the second floor in case you want to get some air. between downstairs and upstairs the music is different both levels and great depending on the type of music that gets you going to the dance floor and start moving those hips lol. On weekdays theirs no cover charge but weekend hits cover charge are about $10 depending on the event. Tuesday and Wednesday are Karaoke Night so if you like to sing you should come and bring a friend or two and sing enjoy all the choices of songs they offer.
