First time here! Place is nice, bright, and so clean! We were greeted and welcomed by a super friendly and nice guy. He gave recommendations based on our preferences. We started with a huge salad. Large enough for probably 4 people to share. Really fresh and simple, but delicious. Next came garlic fries, because hell yeah. - garlic fries! Couldn't say no. Loved them. Crispy and garlicky. Sauce was pretty good too. I didn't need ketchup. Now the pie - we decided on the Ellen. Really enjoyed it! Crispy and tasty crust, bottom and all around the edges. Opening week and had to give it a try. I love Detroit style pizza so was excited to try. The restaurant space itself is nice clean and airy. Parking can be challenging though. The pizza was very good and totally met expectations. Really nice crusty and crispy crust with cheese on the edges. I like they also serve the Pizza Hut on a wire rack so the crust doesn't get soggy. Bonus points for that thoughtfulness! We also tried the fried Brussels, which were very good, especially with the aïoli dipping sauce , and we also tried the buffalo wings which were solid as well. Square Pie Guys is a brand new deep dish (Detroit style) pizza shop on Campbell Ave just east of downtown. The place is new and clean and well decorated. It was Saturday evening and not too crowded. The service is very friendly and the pizza came out pretty fast (maybe 20 minutes). The pizza itself was good but not amazing. The ingredients had a lot of flavor but it was also really salty. The crust was really thick and although crispy on the edges, it was a slightly undercooked in the middle. Honestly I'm probably more used to the Chicago deep dish with more ingredients and less dough and that would likely be my preference going forward. From a value standpoint, this pizza was $24.50 and it was pretty small for that price point (width and length, not so much depth). Does that make sense? read more

I came here for the grand opening lunch on Tuesday August 5th and I have to say that I don't usually go out of my way for pizza because I feel like most of the ones that I've had are nothing special besides Prince street Pizza but I don't regret coming to this because this might just be my favorite local pizza. I got the Ellen Supreme and I loved it, though I do think it was missing some veggies but I'm all for a meat lover's pizza. The cheesy crust makes it all the better. My partner got the pepperoni and it was good but just a bit plain for me though the pepperoni cups were great. ~~Parking: The establishment is located as a stand alone on the end of a strip mall but usually there's plenty of parking unless you're coming on Sunday for lunch (less parking due to the Campbell's Farmer's Market). There's a lot of street parking available, but it's also not too far from downtown where you can park in one of the structures there if you're not able to find parking in the lot. ~~Service: Good. I found it a bit strange that there weren't containers of cheese or chili peppers on the tables and instead they came in small packets like when you get pizza to-go. My mom and I came here for a weekday lunch. I ordered The Hawaiian ($24.50) and my mom ordered The Ellen Supreme ($24.50). The pizzas come standard 6"x8" and don't look like much at first, but we each only had a slice of our respective pizzas and were stuffed. The Hawaiian came with pepperoni, pineapple, jalapeños, and green onions. I was expecting my pizza to come with ham/Canadian bacon, but their version did not - no biggie. My mom liked her pizza, but wished that she had the option to add some veggies as the pizza was a little salty. I'm a thin crust pizza gal, but I'm glad I gave this place a try. I love pizza, who doesn't, but the curse that I live with is I can't have dairy... no cheese, I cry. Getting pizza is always tough, but to my surprise Square Pie Guys OFFERS A DAIRY FREE OPTION. We picked up two pies to go, Mush-O-Roni and Ellen Supreme, rushed home put on a movie and got to munching. Food was good, we enjoyed the Detroit style pie, being a crust lover I was happy with the doughy style. Great flavors on the pies overall, especially the hot honey. -1 star due to inability to customize orders online, it would be nice to remove something (understand not allowing ability to add), but the flexibility to remove something you don't want would be great! & $1.40 for extra sauce hurts my soul. PLO pizza: 8.5/10 very flavorful and saucy I think there were many toppings making it the most worth for the price. This was the best pizza of the 3 Lemon pepper pizza: 3/10 the pizza was so dry there was barely any white sauce it felt like I was eating cheese bread with dry chicken Hawaiian pizza: 6/10 also pretty dry but the toppings were better. Szechuan chicken wings: 7/10 not very spicy and the ranch was sour not sure if that's normal. The flavor was ok it was like a powdery dry rub. Y'all... this pizza is The BOMB! If you've never tried Detroit style pizza (I'm a newbie) think about a focaccia crust with yummy burnt ends. Soft, crunchy, and exploding with flavor - I dare you to not like it! (In full disclosure, I'm not crazy about Chicago style deep dish. I've spent plenty of time in Chicago, so it's not from a lack of having the real deal. I'm a Neapolatin thin crust guy, and Chicago to me is "meh." Detroit on the other hand...) To be fair, I've not been to their place in Campbell, so this review is delivery-only. Still, the pies come to the door fresh, hot, and spot-on. So far, I've only tried their red sauce and their white sauce, but I'm keen to try more -- the white sauce blew me away. In addition to pies, they do fries, wings, etc. -- the wings are REALLY BIG, which I LOVE. They are a bit on the super crispy side, with a bit more breading than I prefer, but they are big and juicy, so I give them a 4.5 out of 5. (And I'm a pretty tough wing critic...) To be fair, SPG's are the second Detroit place we've tried in the South Bay... I have to give a shout-out to one of their competitors, "Slice of Homage" with locations in Sunnyvale and San Pedro Square. Homage's pies are epic, but they appear to be struggling with scaling. Square Pie Guys have a terrific website to order for delivery, with great customer service. Some reviewers will say the pizzas are pricey, and it's a fair comment. However, if you compare what you get from a Neapolitan (like Pizza Antica or Eataly) for $20+, versus a thin crust classic (like Round Table or Pizza My Heart) for $30, I think you'll find that a $25 pie from these Guys goes a VERY long way... we're typically full after 2 pieces! They always have some good deals going on so it's best to wait for those times. We decided to try Square Pie Guys (SPG) because my kid is a picky eater. So when it comes to things he loves (pizza) I make sure we try every kind we can. Enter SPG. INCREDIBLE pizza! I will start by saying Detroit style is probably my favorite type of pizza and this is the best I've ever had. We decided to go on a random weekend and now Have been twice, Kid loved it so much he requested to go for his birthday. Kiddo is always a cheese pizza and both times I got sausage and pepperoni, the wife got spicy pepperoni and 2 different mushroom pizzas. Not the cheapest pizza but it's worth the price in my opinion. I will willingly drive from Fremont to grab some again I'm sure of it. Light Crispy crust and the little burnt edges are to die for. My favorite pizza in the Bay Area? Definitely! I've been to the birthplace of Detroit style pizza many times, and here it's as good as the best in Detroit! The crust is thick but light and fluffy as it should be, and the edges perfectly crisp. For the price the pies are small. The large sizes are only 4 slices so depending on which pie you get, it comes out to around $6 per slice (menu price). On the app a $24.50 pizza has $2.42 tax and $1.22 service fee. So for $28.14 that's $7 per slice! It'd be one thing if the quality justified the price. It doesn't. It's good. Not great. I know it's Detroit style but the crust is too crispy. Inside is nothing special. Just an open fast food style floor plan. And the lighting is harsh when I was there in the evening. Not comforting. If I'm craving square pizza I'll just hold out for a special occasion when I'm passing through San Mateo and get a large 8-slice Golden Boy pizza to-go for the same price as a Square Pie Guys 4 slicer. GB's dough is focaccia style, SPG's is not, so my comparison isn't the fairest. GB's crust is crispy, but not nearly as hard as SPG's. read more

Had a great experience eating here with my family! We went on a Monday night with no line to order. It was our first time trying it out and the cashier was super friendly and helpful, recommending pizzas based on toppings we usually get. You order at the register then get a number to place at your table. We ordered the Pepperoni and Big Von, and I think the Big Von was our favorite. The hot honey pleasantly surprised us and paired well with the other ingredients. It took about 15 min for all our food to come out. While we were waiting for our pizzas to come out, they gave us a complimentary house salad because they said they made an extra. They also gave us a pizza on the house because they accidentally forgot the sausage on the Big Von. We appreciated their transparency (and the extra food) since they recently opened and are still training staff! The atmosphere was casual and clean, perfect for hanging out with friends and family. The only thing we noticed was that if someone accidentally knocked over the pizza stand at their table (happened twice) the noise it made was pretty loud. I'd say it's a medium sized space that can definitely get busy on weekends, especially since it's on the edge of the main street of downtown Campbell. By the time we left it was almost full. One of the allergy friendly restaurants which uses a gluten free fryer . This is only place where we get the fries and gluten free chicken wings without getting worried about cross contamination. The fries and wings are excellent with crispy and crunchy texture and chicken is soft on inside. The gluten free pizza crust is not dairy free hence not tried it. Perhaps a gluten and dairy free pizza crust can really make this a good option for vegans and celiacs . read more

Here's the thing we were one of five different groups eating at this place. And I'm sure we all had different experiences. Note my group was the first to order, out of the other patrons, in an empty restaurant. We ordered 2 pizzas, salad and regular fries. Our salad and fries came out within 10 minutes. They were good, nothing to write home about. The pizza on the other hand took +46 minutes (we timed it with my kid as a game, at first, but after the 30 minute mark, it was no longer a game). The party behind us got their pizza 20 minutes before ours, and the party behind them got their pizza right after. Once we got our pizza it was LUKEWARM, and chewy. The worst part was that the staff got rude when I asked about the status of our oder, and not only with us, but when another family that ordered four orders after us also asked about their order. It looked like they were understaffed in the kitchen, which I get, I've been there, but at least acknowledge your shortcomings, especially when you have diners with young hungry kids. Also this place does not accept cash, which alienates the older generation that stills pays with cash, and has their AC to a very uncomfortable cold temperature. Somehow ended up on a mailing list where they have lots of promos, finally decided to try square pie guys when they were offering 50% off which seemed like a good deal. $30 for dinner for 2 people. I wish I had never seen that email because this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. Nothing wrong with the actual staff at the location. They were working their asses off. The issue was that the app allowed way too many people to take advantage of this deal. When I got a text saying my pizza would be ready in 5-10 mins, we headed over, and arrived about 15 mins later. There were about 20 people waiting for to go orders when we got there. It was just way too many orders for a small place to handle. There was no clear system to know what place you were in line. After waiting an hour, I decided to give up and ask for a refund. The cashier wasn't able to do that or didn't know how. One of our two pizzas had been ready for a long time and was already cold, and they had no idea how far back in the queue the 2nd pizza was. So I asked to just take the cold pizza that was ready and take the L. To make matters worse, the pizza was painfully mid. I wouldn't recommend it even if the service was timely. Just writing this review to warn others not to try taking advantage of their too good to be true discounts. * I will happily update this review if the owner/manager contacts me to provide a refund. The cashier took my name and number for that purpose but I'm not holding my breath. I'll give them a few days and then dispute the charge with visa if I don't hear from them. **update: they gave me a credit in a very timely manner for the amount I spent, and I also received a full refund about 3 business days later.
