Came into the cute little place on a Friday afternoon. Love the simple decor and the color scheme. I had a Vegan donut and coffee simply because I was told they cooked their (non-vegan) donuts in Lard i didn't want to risk trying anything else. I asked the cashier to ask her manager and she said they fry them in vegetable oil. The donut was very sweet and delicious but Oh Boy! 2 donuts and a medium coffee cost me $8 and some change I went to Do-Rite right after that (down the street) and bought 4 donuts for $8 and some change they were much bigger also. There are a lot of specialty donuts and they are very colorful, all very different. I couldn't help but order a couple to try but who doesn't want to carry a cute pink box. We tried Dreamsicle Bar,Nutella Banana Pocket;Pistachio Glazed, Blueberry Fritter, Blueberry Bismark, and a turtle. These are in the order of my favorite and stand out. The dreamsicle of really sweet but really stood out it really felt like I was eating a dreamsicle as bit into a marshmallow cream center. The Banana pocket was unique and my hubby favorite, it has a nice caramelize banana hidden inside. I'm much of a pistachio person but this was a good surprise and it wasn't too sweet. I got recommendations from several people to try Stan's, so I walked all over the city to find one. I got an old fashioned glazed cake donut, a banana biscoff specialty donut, and a pumpkin dossaint. The banana one was the best and I don't really care for banana desserts (my husband picked that one). All three were mediocre. The dossaint was super dry and chewy. Oh, and it was $5... I know dossaints are normally pricey because of the time they take to make, but this one could've easily been the same price as the normal donuts since it was clear no extra care went into making it. The cake donut was enjoyable and had good flavor. It was still an enjoyable experience-- though I would not go back. The atmosphere of the place was really fun and cute. Reminded me of a 50's diner. I like doughnuts and would eat them more often, but my digestive system doesn't recognize them or break them down at all. It seems each one is deposited directly onto my waistline after it is consumed. So with caution to not go crazy, I made the one block walk from the hotel to Stan's for some doughnuts for the family. At 9 AM on a Monday, there was no line and I could take my time making selections. The employee was helpful and patient while I contemplated. Doughnuts are grouped and priced into three different groups depending on color of the tag. I selected a half dozen "standard" and half dozen "specialty" for a total of $25. I had a lemon curd, chocolate orange old fashion, and an apple fritter with the lemon curd being my favorite. They were all tasty but I quickly interpreted an overall sweet theme after my samples, personally, too sweet for my liking. We were walking down the street and ran into this place one morning. Donuts.. can't hold me back from those. I walked in and saw all of the delicious options. So I went on a mini donut crawl in Chicago. I was MOST excited for Stan's beforehand - their donuts look absolutely incredible and they have an interesting menu. I will say that I love the seating area at this location and I especially love the wall of Kitchenaid worship. I want that for my own home someday... swoon. As for the donuts - they are quite good, but not as good - or as varied - as I had expected. Most of them seem to start with the same base, and then have different fillings or toppings. I tried a couple different pockets, and each was very similar - particularly because the filling part was so minimal and the glaze/cake was the main thing you taste. The peanut butter, nutella and banana are minimized, which is unfortunate. I think these donuts could be very good if the ratios were better. The chocolate ganache is a bit overwhelmingly at present. I also tried the pistachio, which was a pretty good pistachio glaze on a pretty good cake donut. My favorite was the buttercream pocket, which was large enough and filled enough to serve as a meal on its own! If you don't have a huge sweet tooth, be sure to split that one... like, four ways. I discovered this fact when told my half dozen randomly selected (by me) donuts would cost just under $25.00!! Upon questioning why a posted price of $10.99/half dozen becomes $25, I was then informed that different types of donuts have different prices. I was committed to purchasing them at that point, but suggested that they do a better job indicating which donuts cost what price level. I've been walking by this location for several months now and I was excited to see it finally opened this past Friday. No longer do people have to go all the way to Wicker Park to try these delicious donuts! I had already picked up 2 donuts from Glazed and Infused less than 10 minutes ago when I walked by Stan's. I just had to go in and check it out. I walked out of here with an additional 2 donuts (Don't judge me!). I got the Biscoff Banana and the lemon & pistachio old fashioned. Both are super duper yummy. I especially enjoyed the Biscoff Banana one. I think most donuts will set you back about $3 each so it's definitely not cheap but a good treat to have once in awhile. It's really dangerous that I will walk past this location several times a week. Good thing winter is here and I have the need for some extra insulation. I will be back to try out more flavors. This is one of those super long overdue reviews that I probably should've written up maybe 2+ years ago. There is a donut type here that will practically satisfy anyone who likes donuts. The choices at Stan's are more than any other specialty donut shop in Chicago (including Glazed&Infused, Firecakes, Doughnut Vault, and Do-rite). This particular location is at the 1st floor of Northwestern Memorial Hospital so there is a constant flow of customers which means that the donuts are all fairly fresh no matter what time you come! I've grabbed donuts at all hours of the day and with the exception of once, I haven't had a bad donut. Favorites: Any of the old-fashioned flavors (blueberry, lemon pistachio, orange, ALL GOOD), maple bacon bar, any of the donuts that end with the word 'pocket'. Now the one time I did have a poorly made donut was when I ordered a pocket and it was stuffed pretty measly and all into one corner of the donut so I'll have to say that's the one risk you take with getting a pocket donut. We did a donut tour and this was our last stop, so I was kind of sugared out by this point, which was a bummer because this was my favorite by far. The shop itself is cute and open with plenty of seating. Compared to other shops in the area, they have much more variety to choose from (even gluten free options!) My husband picked up some donuts from Stan's as we were leaving ann Luries hospital. I did not go in so this review is strictly on the donuts i tried. I was not impressed. It was my first time visiting Stan's in Northwestern Hospital, Chicago. I am not going to judge the quality or taste of their products since I am not actually a fan of sugary stuff. I was at the hospital for a fasting test, so I just wanted to grab something after. Their small cappuccino was slightly larger than a shot of espresso so I found the items overpriced, but again that was my choice to make a purchase. My reason for writing this review is solely the service that I received at the coffee counter. Upon receiving my cup of cappuccino, I asked the lady if that had any sugar in it? And she rudely responded, "How many?" I asked again, if it had any sugar in it and she repeated "How many" in the same manner. At this point I said, "You are not being very nice". She walked away without saying anything, said something to the gentleman at the register, he came over and started defending her off the bat. I repeated my question, and he asked, "How many?" I was like, "2 should be good, and that's actually not the answer to my question." He placed a few packs of sugar on the counter and walked away. I looked around for a stirrer and when I did not see it, I asked for that too. He came back and give me a stirrer from behind the counter. I mean, first of all if there was no sugar in that drink and they had none available at their service station (of course due to COVID safety..), she should have asked me for it. Then instead of answering my question both of the employees were rude and quite defensive! And then how I supposed to mix that sugar in my coffee?? with my fingers? It's not like there was a huge line of customers waiting to be served. It was just plain poor customer service. Not sure why people think this place is a big deal. I've had better donuts at a grocery store for less than a buck. Why would I pay $2-$3 for an average tasting donut? Don't get me wrong, they tasted fine, just not at this price and not when you have to wait in line to get them. Boston cream donut was good, but the glazed donut was somewhat bland. Stan's is my favorite donut shop in all of the Chicago area. This location was extremely convenient when I used to live two blocks down the street on Erie. I would stop by almost every other day for a quick coffee or donut and then get on the bus and head to work. The coffee always tastes freshly brewed and it's my favorite pick me up of the day. They have a wide variety of donuts and I couldn't help but try all of them. They also have seasonal items, like the pumpkin pie donut. It is absolutely delicious and I wait for it every season. It is basically made with a croissant dough, filled with pumpkin pie filling and has a pumpkin glaze on top. It is enough to satisfy your pumpkin cravings for at least a month. Definitely a fall favorite! My other favorites include all their old fashioned donuts. They have multiple flavors and not just the old fashioned glazed like most other donut shops. The pistachio old fashioned glazed donut is to die for. I always recommend it when people visit me from out of state. It just melts in your mouth kind of donut. The Nutella Pocket and Biscoff Pocket are also a must try. I'm not sure how they came up with all those combinations, but to Stan, thank you for making our tastebuds dance with flavor. The entire shop is decorated beautifully. They have about 2 to 3000$ worth of colorful Kitchenaids set up on their walls. I actually ended up buying one because I fell in love with the turquoise color one they had up there. I also appreciate the service team and how they put up with the morning and afternoon lines. They also deliver. I've ordered so many times from them off of Grubhub when it was too cold or I was just being too lazy to walk two blocks to get my fix. The delivery is always on time, and when they are out of a certain item, they make sure to call you and ask what you would like to substitute it for. Always a favorite! read more

Stan's does a FANTASTIC job with this donut! you don't really need more. Con: Hipsters taking pics with a Leca. Eat the donut, enjoy the coffee. I know taking pics of food for Yelp is a big part of Yelp but pulling out an expensive camera with a ring light...no. I guess this not Stan's fault. Donut shops of the past are gone. Like, a good donut shop, you wouldn't be surprised or grossed out to find a cigarette butt in your coffee. So I had the absolute most amazing donut this morning. We stumbled upon this donut shop close to our hotel, and I'm so glad we gave it a try. Had to come here because I'm visiting Chicago for the first time. Got 2 donuts, the biscoff banana stuffed pocket and the pistachio. Out of the 2 my favorite was definitely the pocket, it was stuffed with band and biscoff cookie butter...basically heaven in my mouth LOL. The donut also had a biscoff drizzle on top with some crunchy chocolate balls sprinkled on. The pistachio was also good too, and it weirdly did taste like pistachio too.
