What makes one Starbucks better than another. Chances are, unless you have one incredibly sensitive palate, it isn't the coffee. It isn't the decor, since it is pretty standard. It isn't the music, which again is pretty standard in the chain. It's the service, hands down. If you have been following me lately, you have seen a huge influx of check-ins at Starbucks locations from LA to the OC and all environs in between. That is because Mr. Handsome's mom loves Starbucks. Morning, noon, and night, it's rare that she isn't in the mood for a grande latte, extra hot milk. Yep. That is her drink of choice. Since she is visiting, apparently Starbucks (any Starbucks) is now my haunt, too. It can't be easy to get a slightly non-standard order when you don't speak the language fluently where you happen to be. For me, I imagine trying to order a double burger, double cheese, grilled onions, and lettuce wrap while in Korea. No go. My Korean is atrocious, especially if I have to do more than point to a menu. For Mr. Handsome's mom, this same need to special order in a language that isn't her native language can get in the way. So, she has us go to the counter to get her order. It's faster and painless for all involved. With that lengthy preamble, here is the moment for the five stars at this Starbucks location. It's another Starbucks order in yet another innocuous Starbucks location. In the last week, it's rare to go a day without at least two Starbucks check-ins and this day is no different. As we walk up to the counter with a ceramic to-go cup that we want filled with the grande latte, extra hot milk, a subtle case of intuition turns the nice guy behind the counter into a genius (at least in our minds). We walk to the counter. We order, as per usual. We get ready to pay. Then the guy behind the counter gives us a tip: "Get the white ceramic cup with one's standard order on it. It's a great gift for family who has English as a second language. They can order with ease." He then writes the standard order on the ceramic cup. Mr. Handsome takes the cup to his mom and explains the writing. She is thrilled and Mr. Handsome has now earned extra brownie points. I turn to the cashier, puzzlement playing across my face, and sincerely thank him for the tip. "Mr. Handsome's mom," I explain, "travels a lot and doesn't always feel comfortable ordering. The writing on this cup will make her life so much easier." The guy behind the counter smiles a knowing smile. "Yes," he says. "My mom is the same way. This cup has made it so much easier for her since English isn't her first language." There you have it. Service. Going the extra step. Letting intuition and kindness guide actions. Five stars, Starbucks, for providing the solid standards that make Mr. Handsome's mom happy and for hiring someone who has a gift for knowing just how to make all of the good stuff even better. read more

First impression: These guys and gals are the nicest baristas in the entire Starbucks corporation. Like incredibly and genuinely nice. It's like having Ghandi or Jesus make you a latte. Okay, now The straight facts on this particular Bux. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Despite the lines and chaos, you'll always get a very unrushed "Hi! How's your day going?" And "Cool! You have a gold card! You have three stars!" And instead of just a thank you, it's "Thank you for coming here!" Okay, such high cheer is a bit hokey but who doesn't want this with their coffee? I appreciate it. Seating: it's a pretty decently sized Starbucks that's in a pretty thriving corner shopping lot in Anaheim Hills. There's a Corner Bakery and a gourmet pizza parlor adjacent to it and they all share the same courtyard so the outdoor seating is plentiful and a lot more comfy than the average Bux with really cushy outdoor couches. You'll see a lot of families hanging out and relaxing on a Sunday afternoon after church. Indoor seating has plenty of two person tables that each have access to an outlet. Score. The lines come and go. One minute there will be a huge line and then it will be gone because so many families and big big groups come here. Not a bad thing. The lines suddenly get long but the baristas step it up and then the line is gone and it's quiet and placid again. Parking is a bit tough because of all the restaurants and the LA Fitness and Grocery store. Plus it's Anaheim Hills. My all time favorite is the Bux in Eagle Rock but this one comes pretty darn close. read more

This is one of my favorite Starbucks to study at, mainly because it's an excellent place for people watching and NOT studying, but also because there are lots of tables and seating, outlets, and they've never gotten my drink wrong. With that said, yes, there are times when the line is out the door (usually Saturday and Sunday mornings, so choose your visits wisely). If you're just there to pass the time, you'll never have a problem with seating: there are indoor tables, couches, and bar stools, and outdoor couches and tables as well that share space with zpizza and Corner Bakery. One of my favorite things about the place is that even though Anaheim Hills isn't a "college town," you'd never know from the customers here. It's a nice variety of people from parents with their kids to old people reading books and business people on laptops, but also a lot of college kids home for the weekend studying. Nice to know I'm not the only one spending a perfectly good Saturday afternoon inside with my nose in a textbook. What can I say, misery loves company, and what better place than Sbux? read more

By far the worst experience I have EVER had at a Starbucks. Come to think of it, it is really the only bad experience I have ever had at a Starbucks. This location is balls. I went in to get my 6 year old a cake pop and a drink for myself. I ordered a grande cinnamon dulce frap. Yea, it's not on the menu, but I have had it made for me at several locations so I know that it can be done. So I stand there, patiently waiting for my drink (because it took FOREVER even though I was the only person to have just ordered and it was 3pm) and the guy sets down a really sloppy, leaking iced drink and says, "Here's ur cinnamon dulce latte." Of course I didn't order a latte, I ordered a frap and at almost $5 a pop for even the smallest size drink, I want to get what I ordered. I wasn't rude about it, I just stated that it wasn't what I had ordered. So the unhappy lookin barista takes the drink back and appears as though he is heading over to make the correct drink. He comes back a minute later, looks at me and says, " Do you want it made with coffee or cinnamon and cream?" I at first didn't hear him so I said, " What?" He repeated himself and I was really confused and said, " Well, I don't know." To which he said that he needed to know because they didn't have a drink called a cinnamon dulce frap on the menu. I was annoyed and I said, "I don't know," once again really confused. He didn't like my second "I don't know" answer and he rudely said, "So do you want it made with coffee or what?" This is the point where I have had it. I still kept my cool, but I looked at him and said, " Dude, I don't know. I don't make the freakin drinks for a living, you do. I just drink them." Seriously? You're gonna ask the customer how to make the drinks? Find a new job guy! I was so irritated by it all that I finally just said, "You know what, it's ok. Just give me my money back." Whereby the girl who rang me up proceeded to do so. I asked her what the guy's name was. "Travis." And I walked out the door. When I got home, I got on Starbucks website. I let them know what happened and asked for a reply to my comments. It's been a couple of weeks ago now that I received a reply email apologizing and letting me know that I will receive free drink coupons in the mail. I have yet to see said free drink coupons, however, I am hopeful. My advice is GO TO ANOTHER LOCATION. I don't care how tempting this one looks because it is so close and in a nice shopping center. Just DON'T DO IT! The one by Cinema City also sucks, but at least they aren't complete asses.. All of the people that work here are little high school, early twenty something brats whose parents have money to burn and will pay their bills if they get fired anyway, so they could give a shit about customer service. I come to this Starbucks to work/read sometimes. I like it because it's pretty big and you can usually find a decent amount of open seating. The outside patio is nice for relaxing but sometimes on hot days the umbrella's are coveted and harder to come by. For the most part the staff is really friendly. The only downfall to this location is that on a number of occasions, I've been working or reading at a table close to the baristas and have noticed that their friends will be in the store hanging out. Many of them are in high school and they have a tendency to be really loud and yell back and forth between some of the baristas. This can be annoying if you're trying to get work done while you're there. Other than that not too much to complain about. Definitely one of the better Starbucks in the area. read more

We have one of our office location on the Santa Ana Canyon Road so I decided to grab a quick drink from here. It was easy to locate, google maps [yes I have to use it for everywhere I go - I am horrible with directions] took me right to the place. It has its own parking lot so there is ample amount of parking space available. I was literally in an out of the place because I was running late and I had to get back to work. There was a big line during the lunch time and I was able to get my order in less than 5 minutes. I ordered a Very Berry Hibiscus refresher, let my barista know to go easy on ice but it was loaded with only ice. I didn't really try to make any small talk with my barista and I feel like she didn't bother to either. There is a good amount of outdoor as well indoor seating available. read more

I always sit and do work at this Starbucks. It's probably one of my favorites. It is usually busy. Parking is hard around lunch time and 5/6pm. This location recently added more tables inside and it was much needed! There's tons of seating outside and some seating inside, some days it is hard to grab a seat. When I look for a really good Coffee shop. I look for one that has quality Coffee of Course. But I also look at the environment nearby. This Starbucks has a good environment. Customers are able to sit outside on patio furniture to enjoy their coffee, and chat with people. The Baristas are really friendly, and make sure your drinks are correct. I once asked the manager if a certain tumbler was available. He was certain he didn't have any available. However, her was able to locate one for me in the backroom and I was very happy to buy one from him. I also carry a computer with me, and I find it really nice that Starbucks offers outlets on the floor and the walls of their coffee shop for people to charge their laptop computers. It makes it really convenient for me, and for other people who have short battery life on their computers. This Starbucks location is also located within a Plaza that has Corner Bakery. So I usually use the free internet access that is available from Corner Bakery. Starbucks also has ATT hotspot, but it can be expensive to use. Zpizza is also nearby, and I usually buy some pizzas from them if I am hungry. My only one regret is that this Cafe can be really busy, and it maybe hard to get a table around Lunch time. I really enjoyed my iced vanilla latte from this Starbucks so I think that warrants a review. My drink was completed in a timely manner and tasted perfect. I had work to complete so I stayed for a few hours. This location gets some traffic even though it doesn't have a drive thru. Location was very clean and the baristas were very polite. It looks like they have constant regulars as many people were greeted by their first name. Overall, good Starbucks to visit since they can be a hit or a miss. read more

Okay. This is a nice place and fairly easy to get to. I came in with about 10 people in front of me. They got through the line fairly quickly with the 2 people behind the counter. The guy behind the register was nice and took my order correctly. Although I had a good experience to this point, there is one thing that stood out to me that calls for this low rating. One of the people helping make drinks and food was very excited to see his friends come into the store. He would high five everyone he knew. I wouldn't have a problem with this if he wasn't making drinks/handling food. This is food service, your hands need to be clean. This is the worst Starbucks that I have ever been too.. Ever! Unfortunately, this is the closest one to my house, and every time I come here, the service is worse and worse! Today, I ordered a tall coffee for my dad. How hard could it be to get that right? Apparently very.. It was cold and when my dad asked a barista to warm it up, he told my dad "we can't do that" & shoved the cold drink back. Finally another barista threw it in the microwave & said "have a good day." I had bought a bag of coffee beans just a couple days ago and accidentally got decaf by mistake. I thought, oh this shouldn't be a problem to just exchange an unopened brand new bag of coffee. Wrong. I usually like this Starbucks, the people who work here are nice. However, I had an uncomfortable experience today. It's very awkward for me to be standing in line about to pay for my drink, and witness the Starbucks barista tell a girl who's ordering a drink that it's "on the house", and she doesn't have to pay (he also said that she used her free drink reward earlier, so it wasn't free because it was a reward). The barista had been chatting this group of young, attractive girls up for a really long time in a flirtatious manner, and was holding the line up.
