My husband & I ordered the western omelet & home fries. The eggs were very over cooked, the ham was deli sliced ham and the home fries were hard as cement & dry as a bone. The so called home fries are in pic since you may not recognize what they are. I regret I didn't get a pic of the over cooked omelet. Waiter offered to take the home fries them back but ONLY with the whole plate. We personally NEVER let restaurants take or plate. Also since we had a 300 plus mile drive home we went ahead and ate it. I ordered delivery and received the wrong order. I called to let them know (not even requesting a refund or another delivery), and the manager, Mike, got very angry and yelled at me. He told me I must have ordered wrong, even though I told him I had the receipt in front of me. I couldn't believe how rude he was. He literally yelled at me at the top of his lungs. This diner literally SUCKS. My bf and I went there with high expectations because they were good the time we went there a few months back. We go there and decide to get apps no biggy right? Easy. WRONG. The gravy cheese fries were legit warmed up in the microwave with the two slices of cheese slabbed on half melted and barely any gravy. Then the nachos. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. I enjoyed the diner. We stopped here on our way back from New York and the food was very good. They had a big menu, the orders came out quick and and the sizes were large. My food was good I ordered a grilled cheese, so you can't really mess that up, and I ordered fries they were good. My mom ordered a salad and she said that it was really good and fresh. The prices were reasonable. Our waitress was very nice I enjoyed her she was very friendly. They have a desert case in the front with a large selection of cheesecakes, pastries , cookies etc. I will say the lady at check out lacked personality and was on the verge of being semi rude but other then that good experience. read more

State line is a decent diner for late night. I used to stop here in the winter time when I was snow plowing the Sheridan hotel nearby. The food is nothing to die for but it's a warm meal at 2-4am when you're hungry. Sometimes it's a bit annoying when you're having breakfast and the waiter asks you 5 times every ten minutes if I need anymore coffee. They sat down all the of us who weren't white in one table, they took the table away from us when we weren't done yet with my phone and me and my friend jackets on the chairs. My Wife Pat and I consider ourselves as regular customers at the State Line Diner. There isn't enough good things about this restaurant we could talk about. We know most of the Servers and love the way we are treated when we arrive. All the food is delicious and prepared exactly the way we like it! This place is gross. I have been here several times at this point and each time has been unacceptable. One waitress named Karen got our order wrong and yelled at us for it? Another time, we were ignored by the older woman hostess up until we were seated and were only spoken to by our waitress after we waited 10 minutes for a waitress to even come to our table. The last time I was there there were shells in my omelette. I almost threw up on the table. Completely unacceptable establishment. I now never go to this diner. There are other better ones in NJ. They can't make the meals on their own menu and they have the worst customer service. Every time we order from here our order is wrong and we don't even ask for anything special or make any modifications - their cooks just don't know the menu! To make matters worse, every time we bring this to the managers' attention, they try to blame it on us for how we ordered it - why do we have to tell you what's on your own menu!? They make no effort to train their staff to actually learn their own menu, and no attempts to make it right. I ended up at the State Line Diner on a recent trip back to New York when a friend and I couldn't find a place to eat midway between where each lived. The diner was nearby, and it seemed OK to stop at. What a bad idea. The food at the Diner was actually fine, so I can't place any blame on the cooks. It's the service that killed this place. The server we had was atrocious, and the place wasn't busy enough to excuse the bad service. First off, she didn't seem to really be paying attention to us, which became obvious when she brought me a Diet Coke with ice. I had ordered a root beer with no ice. She did get the food orders right, but then she vanished for 20 minutes without checking on us. Then when she did re-appear, she asked us twice within 3 minutes if we wanted refills. Again, she seemed very spaced out and we hurried out as fast as possible. Beyond that, the diner was generally grungy and I had my doubts as to whether the water was really water. Seemed a tad cloudy and "mineral packed." If you have no other choice, the food is OK. Otherwise, be smart and keep driving. read more

I have been patronizing this restaurant for weeks, the owner/manager, the staff do not greet me with even a smile. There is no acknowledgement of me in the least. The menu is large. The food is decent diner food. I work hard for my money. I would prefer to dine at a restaurant that actually values my business. Diners are an East Coast institution that I really miss now that I live in California. When we lived on Staten Island, we were regulars at the Dakota. It was something we looked forward to every sunday. On our recent visit to see our first grandbaby (he is perfect by the way), we stopped at State Line for breakfast. My daughter and her husband have been her frequently and it is their favorite. It is located on the North side of Route 17 in MahWah and has ample parking. They are currently getting a facelift, so 1/2 of the diner is closed, but that didn't take away from our dining experience. Our waitress was wonderful! Professional, cheeky, fun. The food was perfect and the portions generous. I opted for the homemade cornedbeef hash breakfast, and it was great. I only wish that I was in town longer, there were so many things on the menu I still have to try. And the dessert options....Oy vey! read more

I will start with the good. My husband and I ate here 3 times during our week-long stay in Mahwah. Tonight we had a wonderful waitress named Samantha. She was very friendly, attentive, has a great personality, and has a very cute Jersey accent. She deserves to work in a better environment, however, because on our other visits the waitstaff was gruff, inattentive, and the old man that works the front desk was just down right rude and a jerk. If it wasn't right by our hotel and open 24 hours we would have gone elsewhere. The food is decent and there is a lot of it. The garden salad is very large with a generous amount of tomatoes and cucumber. The ranch dressing tastes bottled. My husband had the wedge salad and said it was "good for a diner." The roast turkey and dressing is good, but the dressing tasted sweet. The pastrami sandwich was a disappointment, you'll get a much better one at Schlotzskys. The desserts are generously portioned, but are only slightly better than those you'll find at a grocer's bakery. read more

So I've only been to Stateline once... Early Sunday May 10 @ 3am. Coming from Nyack with my best friend (under considerable inebriation), I was most definitely in need for some good American fare. Although I was lacking in some sobriety, I totally remember my experience here. Stateline didn't disappoint. I ordered the CrabCake Benedict, with a side order of pancakes. I was pleased. An abundance of flavor, without being overly seasoned or modified. Just well-executed food. Nothing over-the-top, but they are definitely worthy of future visits. Not to mention our waitress was the bees' knees. She did all that was expected of her to make our visit pleasant. Dude at the front who takes payments, on the other hand, was about as pleasant as a nagging girlfriend during Monday Night Football. He tends to always get into it with customers about minor issues, and has a serious attitude problem. He appears to be a manager or something. If it wasn't for their food, waitstaff, and hours (24/7), and I had to rate based on HIS attitude? He'd get NO stars. read more

I was a little worried when the first waitress came over looking very angry, uttered some unrecognizable words and then proclaimed that we look like we needed more time before rolling out of Dodge lol Luckily this very nice gentleman came over the second time who was more than polite, attentive, helpful and friendly(in fact I tipped him 30% rather than my usual 20%) Anyway everyones food was delicious. I felt like urinating in my empty glass of Pepsi rather than this filthy rest room. I say my empty glass because it was like pulling teeth in order to get just one refill? Perhaps it was made fresh daily with spoiled ingredients or the fact that this slaw was extremely warm like it was sitting out all day? I ordered a Turkey club without mayo and was given a heaping side of mayo that was spilled over onto my sandwich? No problem, I simply removed it and wiped it off. My lettuce on my sandwich was mostly brown? Bacon tasted burnt and like it sat out all day? Keep in mind this was around 8pm. Upon checkout the man checking us out never asked how everything was? So I left him know how horrible the service was and how spoiled the coleslaw tasted. His response was "What do you expect me to do" My reply was to get rid of the spoiled slaw for starters and to improve the service. To make things worse there is a 3% fee for using a debit/credit card? Thank goodness convenient stores and grocery stores do not do this. Imagine if gas stations did this as well? The State Line was a good stop when it took us longer to get to North Jersey on our trip home to Albany. We stopped in on a late Sunday evening and were seated quickly. I went with the cheese steak, which was a bit greasy, but tasty. They were able to accommodate my random requests to add and hold toppings, and it was done correctly. I can't remember what the husband got, but he was pleased with it. The service was a bit slow, but it seemed they were short staffed that evening and I wouldn't hold it against them. We walked in as we always do, excited to grab breakfast since we were both off work today. Upon waiting for a table the lady says "sorry you can't have that here" pointing to my dunkin donut ice coffee. I just picked this up prior to going to the diner because A) i ran out of ice coffee at home B) i only drink flavored ice coffee (never hot and in reality it tastes more like dessert then coffee). The hostess offered to hold my coffee in their fridge until after we were done eating or buy their coffee. We walked out. I worked in the restaurant business for 10 years and what it comes down to is- use common sense and you'll keep your customers. If I walked in with a bottle of sprite, some hard boiled eggs and pancakes in my purse then I understand their logic. But I walked in with a product they don't serve. State Line doesn't serve the dunkin swirl coffees and they don't have the flavored creamers I use at home. No I don't went to purchase old hot coffee. And no I don't want you to hold the full coffee that I just purchased hostage until after breakfast. So no I will not be back. Common sense is not so common for some. read more
