We have tried to eat here on two occasions. The first time was pretty busy and the wait was just too long. We tried going there this afternoon. So how do we start this reiew. We arrived at 12p on Friday, and they somewhat busy. Anyway we ordered or meal giving exact instructions how it is to be prepared Wisconsin burger, one patty, lettuce, tomatoe, onions, grilled onions pickles and cheese. What we got was somgle cheese (the wrong bun), one patty some onion. So we asked where the tomatoe was. So they brought out a tomtoe. So when we open the sandwich, there was no grilled onions. So we sent it back, and when it came, it wa still wrong. So we asked for a manager. After 5 minutes she came and apologized for the order. Claims she has been here a couple weeks. Oh well, we LOVE Steak n Shake but won't be back to the Greenville location. read more

It's hard to put into words how disappointed I was with our last visit to Steak n Shake. And I do mean LAST visit. There were so many things wrong with the service and the cleanliness that the problem must be management. The restaurant was almost empty, but still no one was interested in taking our order. When someone finally wandered over, she certainly wasn't happy to be there and didn't even fake it well. The milk shakes that she brought us were not mixed well, served in cheap Styrofoam cups, and had no whipped cream or cherry like they're supposed to. 20 minutes later, still no sandwiches. Even though the restaurant was still mostly empty, there were eight tickets hanging in the window and almost no food on the grill yet. Then someone decided to mop the floor next to our table with Clorox-smelling water. That was it. We just got up and left. We will not be back. read more

They only came to our table twice(food and drinks), they did not check up on us once. They spilled our drink and didn't clean it up. Seriously just don't. It smells awful and the service is somehow worse. Always understaffed, rude as all get out, and food is mediocre at best. Just go to Burger King or McDonald's you'll be better off. The girl who hostesses/checks you out gives so much attitude for asking for things that are 100% part of her job (ex I said I needed a straw for my shake and you would think I asked her to do me the biggest favor). The food is usually very consistent at Steak and Shake but this location managed to have some very friendly service and was extremely fast, particularly for a Saturday evening. We were seated within seconds and the food arrived within about 5-7 minutes of ordering. The milkshakes were good, the fries were hot, and the burgers were fresh. When we got home with our drive through order, we found that we only got the fries and drink from our child's order. No nuggets to be found. Also the pattys on the double burgers were TINY. Gotta love Steak 'n Shake. I can get an entire meal here for the price that I once paid for a burger from Wendy's that gave me food poisoning, minus the 28 hours of agony that followed. It's fast food so I don't understand all the griping about service. I'd be less than enthused about serving people you just know are going to leave you a $1.50 tip, truth be told. We usually order just a couple single burgers, fries, and sodas so we try to tip nicely to compensate for a dirt cheap bill. Of course, maybe that's why we never have a problem with service, because we always have pleasant experiences with the staff. That being said, there are a couple food hazards to avoid at Steak 'n Shake. The chili tastes like a vat of salt mixed with a little canned Hormel chili. And I just tried the newer french onion soup. That was pretty brutal as well-salty onion water with cheese of unknown origins. I'm a little worried about how high my regret level will be about four hours from now. Stick to the standards and skip the soups because you'll have to invest in a lot of Tums afterwards if you tempt the fates. read more

Went last night about 10pm for milkshakes. We were greeted fairly quickly to place our order. However we sat for close to 45 minutes waiting for 3 shakes. When they arrived, 2 of them were wrong. Took forever to get the 3rd one again and still wasn't what she wanted (they claimed to be out of the 1st 2 types she wanted, but didn't learn that until the 1st incorrect one was brought out). Employees didn't seem to care that we sat forever. Finally got our bill and went to pay check. I stood at the register for close to 10 minutes just waiting to pay my check. Only gave one star bc I couldn't give zero, food came out cold, service sucked, had to wait twenty minutes for a cup of ranch, but who knows how long it would've taken if I wouldn't have gotten up and ask the people in the back for it myself. We never got checked on, still waiting on the bill and we've been clearly finished (stacked plates) for some time now. Waitress seems more interested in socializing or talking to whoever on her FaceTime call than actually doing her job. Just yesterday I waited 15 minutes to be seated even though there were 6 empty tables and waited another 45 minutes after ordering to get my food and it was under par. This used to be the go to place when we come to Greenville. We used to love this place. Not anymore. Wait and wait and wait and got the cold food served... my husband's chilli never came out. I asked at the register to get that off the bill and the lady said "you never got your chilli?" I said yes and she silently took it off my bill... no "I'm sorry". Worst place ever.
