This is a small shop located inside of a corporate building! Parking is validated and found in the nearby structure. We came here on a Saturday morning and it was quite busy. The line and drinks do take some time so keep that mind. They have several options for the matcha drinks but we chose the cheapest matcha which was the nakama brand. While it is a strong latte, the actual drink was a bit grainy. With the drink still being around 8 dollars, I would have hoped it was a bit smoother. I stopped by Stereoscope in Newport today and ordered a pour over. The coffee itself was great -- clean, balanced, and beautifully presented. I did notice it was prepared using a Poursteady machine instead of being hand-poured, which surprised me a bit given the $6.50 price tag. I totally understand that quality beans and consistency matter, but part of what I love about pour overs is the ritual and care of a barista preparing it by hand. The inside is on the smaller side of a cafe, but the outside provided lots of seating. The drinks do take a little to come out. However, I will say it is definitely worth the wait! Like they don't think to check to receipt before giving the driver the order. It's not like they forgot an item because that happens but they are just careless and don't check at all. Stopped by for a ceremonial matcha, with strawberry. Very good I like how it wasn't too sweet and the matcha was pretty strong, they use house made syrup. The green color was a bit lighter but overall super good. One thing to note is prices are steep especially for premium matcha and their milk isn't organic which is important for me. I paid an extra $1.50 for a higher grade matcha (Yorokobi) and another $1 for honey as a sweetener. Unfortunately, the matcha was super disappointing. There was barely any matcha flavor -- it tasted watery, grainy, and didn't seem like it was mixed properly. I couldn't taste any of the honey either, which made me wonder if it was even added at all. I should've listened to other reviews mentioning how watery their matchas are. There were others who tried the highest and lowest grades and both said they were equally underwhelming. The coffee was excellent and the space itself is cute and cozy, but the service completely killed the experience. The baristas give off that "too cool to care" vibe, and it shows. I ordered coffees, some sweets to have there, and a sandwich to go. We finished our drinks in about twenty minutes with no food in sight. I checked in and was told they'd "let me know when it's ready." After another ten minutes of listening carefully for my name, still nothing. I went back up and found my sandwich just sitting on the pickup shelf, already cold. It had clearly been sitting there for a while. Instead of owning it, they insisted they called my name and basically made it sound like it was on me. This is such an easy fix: give customers a number and run the food to the tables instead of yelling names once and moving on. What I found unacceptable was the attitude when my own order was mishandled. There was no apology, no offer to remake the food, no discount, nothing. They acted confident it was on me for not hearing my name, even though the food had clearly been sitting there for a while. I was left standing there waiting and ended up running late to a doctor's appointment because of it. That "not our problem" approach is exactly why the service feels careless. read more

They do charge $1.25 extra for oat milk and extra to add in honey to sweeten the drink, which is necessary for the hot matcha. Luckily, we beat it just before the rush. Seating is a bit limited, and it's cramped in there when it gets busy. There is seating outside but they ask you not to bring food plates outside as apparently they get stolen. They also sell cool Stereoscope merch like kettles and shirts. Service was fast and patient. We took quite a while to decide what we wanted but they didn't seem to mind! You can also add your number for points. I got the caesar wrap, while my friends got the sweetened matcha latte and breakfast burrito. The chicken caesar salad wrap was refreshing as it had more vegetables that Ggiata's (in LA) but it was missing flavor and also a sauce. The breakfast burrito was very rich and dense, and for 50 cents you could get hot sauce (very much needed in my opinion). Based on my sip of the matcha latte, it was a little too sweet but it had great matcha flavor. All in all, it was fun to try with my girls but I wouldn't drive all the way back to Newport Beach for the food or matcha. I'm sure they get a lot of businesses from the nearby workplaces though!! Stereoscope has been one of my top 3 Roasters/Cafes in OC. This Newport Location is located in Bayview Business Center plaza off of Bristol/Bayview. The entrance is on the side of the building facing the parking structure. Parking is in the parking structure where they do 2 hour validation. There's a few spots in front for "loading zone" for a quick grab and go if its open. They do have plenty of outdoor seating in the public plaza, or within the business center courtyard. Inside there's limited seating with maybe less then 10 total spots. They do offer a free drink with the purchase of any bag of beans. Yes they beans were are on the premium price side but you get what you pay for. The barista's are always super friendly and helpful if it's your first time. They personally delivery your drink to you if you are dining in too! The 3D painting on the ceiling is a must see too. They have 3D classes available along the wall to view the dreamy painting. You literally cannot go wrong with any drink here. They have a full range of espresso drinks, pour overs, teas and milk teas. They do have seasonal menus if you follow them on social media. If you're looking for food they do offer a good brunch menu. They do have some sandwich/salad options for lunch too. Will definitely be back again for my coffee beans and caffeine fixes. read more

I regularly stop by Stereoscope to get some studying done. I've heard great things about the matcha and food, but have not tried them. I'm a sweet and milky coffee person. Not a fan of black coffees, and I tend to be pretty picky. The Madagascar vanilla latte is one of my favorite lattes I've had in OC. So so delicious and makes studying worthwhile There isn't too much seating inside, but there's plenty outside and in the building next door. It's lovely and upscale and very clean. Service is great, they're always quick and polite. A couple downsides that keep me from coming more often than I do is that parking can get pretty pricey. They validate 2 hours but I usually stay longer to study. After that is $1.25/15 minutes. Also, there are no outlets in the building next door. If you're coming for the first time, it might be easy to miss this little shop as it's in a commercial area. Just park in the parking structure, grab your ticket, (make sure you validate it when you order. Validation is for two hours), and walk across. While I don't love that parking is validated, I do like how easy it is to find parking as there are sooo many spots. There's no seating inside, it's really just a place to order, but there's plenty of seating outside. And, if the weather is nice, these seats are actually amazing! Some of them even have outlets. The area is green, there's a lot of tables, plenty of shade, and it's just a good place to sit. I don't think it's necessarily the best place to get work done (despite there being at least one outlet I can attest to, the glare of the sun might be annoying even if there IS a lot of nice shade), but it's a great place to read or catch up with a friend. The drinks are also REALLY delicious. I'm very picky with both my coffee and matcha lattes, and this place hit the mark on both, which is no easy feat. Their iced madagascar vanilla latte was DELICIOUS. It was caffeinated, but not too strong, flavorful (they make the syrup in-house), and perfectly balanced-- not too milky, too coffee-y, or too watery. I've also gotten their strawberry matcha latte and I'm ngl, the color was dull (almost grey) which had me doubting my life choices, but the matcha was perfectly mixed, flavorful, and very tasty. No watery matcha, which is something I unfortunately taste too often to the point where I'm very hesitant about ordering matcha lattes when I know I can make it better at home. Just be aware that the strawberry matcha had actual pieces of strawberry (delicious, but chunky!) and they often got stuck in my straw as it was a smaller straw. I had their iced ceremonial matcha and fruit tea. The matcha is bitter (in a good way) but not as earthy (unfortunately). They hand whisk every drink and love the detail they put in even though it is quite busy. However, the portion of the drink is quite little for what you pay for. Definitely interested in the difference in the different types of matcha. The cafe is built with an open entrance, connecting the interior and exterior. Having a quality coffee shop literally within a 2-min walk from your desk is a luxury and I'm glad to be here for it. It's no wonder they are so busy throughout the entire day from tending to all of the office buildings, but the sheer amount of outside visitors too. The space is beautiful as they have that inside-outside vibe and plenty of seating all around for conversations, hang-outs or even spaces to sit down and do work. For drinks, I've had most of their lattes, but I usually stick with the Large Ice Latte w/ Oat Milk ($8). The other flavors (vanilla and chocolate) are a bit too sweet for me. They also have seasonal flavors such a Pina Colada and currently it is PSL. I've also tried their pour overs which are super delicious too, I love the variety of beans that you get to pick from which I think changes from time to time. I've yet to try their cooked foods, but I've had a few of the pastries. You definitely need to go earlier to get them as they do sell out but it's a great addition to an already great coffee shop!
