This is one of my favorite steak house. Food and drinks are alway delicious. This time around we had some annoying moments, so this is why I'm giving it a 4-star. First off we had a reservation at 7:45. I get it that things happened. We didn't get a table till about 8:15. We finally got a table and got our order in. Food was brought out to us pretty fast and it was not ours but the table behind us. (Not sure how this happens). Lol, next thing I realize my chair kept getting kicked when this tall waitress kept going by. So I moved my seat up. Couple mins later same thing happened again. So I scooted up some more. Finally after the 5th time I turned around and realized that there were plenty of room. So not sure why she wanted to walk so close to my chair. Very annoying. Lastly, this is just a health issue that I'm having for the girl that had to clean the ash tray. As we were leaving....The worker came out and picked up the cigarette butts from the ass tray with her hand. Yes, her hands where ppl mouths were all over with No gloves! First off, germs, germs, and nicotine germs. Stick your hand in the bag and use it to pick up the butts then flip it. Done! read more

Let me preface this review with saying the food was great. However, the order in which the food came out was off. Several of our patrons had salads that came out with the meal- one didn't include dressing. We also ordered dessert but had a hard time passing it around the be shared bc there were still dinner plates piled on the table. Overall food was great, service could have been better. read more

Great food, exceptional service! We made a last minute decision to cancel our reservation at Fin & Pearl and head to Stoney River instead, and we certainly weren't disappointed! The service was exceptional, from the hostess opening the door and greeting us, to the final check and goodbyes. We started with the Steak Roll appetizer, with spicy ranch, which were cheesy and flavorful - like a Philly cheesesteak in an egg roll. House salads were loaded, fresh, and tasty. Filet was seasoned and cooked to perfection. Although the prime rib was slightly lacking enough seasoning for me, it was tender and perfectly cooked. Sweet potato casserole was delicious (but very sweet). Au gratin potatoes were OK, but not really a flavor we savored. When the server boxed our leftovers, she offered another side to go when she noticed that the au gratin potatoes were not enjoyed - just another example of the excellent service. I went here a few months back for a date at night time. I loved the atmosphere. They have valet parking as well as self parking. The atmosphere had a very romantic vibe at night time. Our server was wonderful. We had the Steak rolls for appetizers and it was so good. I ordered the sczechan Salmon, sauteed spinach and rice. He order the Steak biscuit sandwiches. I loved every bite of my meal. My date on the other hand liked it buy wasn't in love. He was in pleasantly shocked when he saw the Steak biscuit sandwiches, I guess because I believe the menu wasn't clear and we didn't know it would be sandwhichs. I will most definitely return. Don't think I'm crazy, but the meatloaf (yes I said it) at this restaurant is amazing! I've been several times over the last year and I always order it along with the Wedge Salad. Incredible! Visited after swim meet. Starved. Service was fast and genuine. Poof wine Cosmo coke and local beer appeared. Very good bread. Ahi came next. Fresh. Tomatoes were really tasty. Salads were all green. I really do like this restaurant and we have been here a few times. I would have given this 5 stars but here is why I'm not....Totally not impressed with management. My husband and I ordered steak and ribs and shared them. The steak was excellent and the ribs were good except they were COLD! Luckily a manager came walking by shortly after we were served and asked how our food was and we said great, but the ribs are cold. He said no problem I'll get that fixed for you. I thought great we'd get a new rack of ribs because I did not want rewarmed ribs. Unfortunately what we got was our ribs back and they were rewarmed, not what I expected for that caliber of a restaurant. They were dried out and tough!! Once they were brought back out to us the manager NEVER came back to check on us!!!! Our server wasn't even informed of what happened. The manager offered us nothing other then to enjoy our food! I wasn't expecting to get them for free but I did expect a fresh rack of ribs or a complimentary dessert. We told our server what happened and she was shocked she was not informed. The flavor of the ribs were great just wish they would have been hot when served. The service by our servers each time we have been here is always excellent. We waited an hour and ten minutes past our reservation time. We were told on multiple occasions we were "next" and it'd be "2-3 minutes" after inquiring about the wait. After the manager told us they were cleaning a table for us and the "2-3 minutes max" turned into 10 minutes, we left. We had a very unpleasant experience the time before this one and attempted to give them a second chance tonight, but after this we will surely not return. read more

OMG!! The coffee-cured filet is amazing! It just melts in your mouth. You don't taste coffee but it has a hint of brown sugar on the glaze. Hands down the best steak I've ever had. The steak was $34 and I was shocked it wasn't $50+. Upon suggestion from our server (who was awesome) I had the Earl Grey Thyme drink. So so so good. Valet parking is free, but hand the guys a tip. Here for a business dinner. We reserved the private room which has enough seating for around 12. Ambiance is casual dressy- you could do nice jeans and a nice top or khakis and be totally comfortable: The service was top notch and our food was amazing! Started with a seafood appetizer trio- the fried lobster was delicious and had a sweet dipping sauce, the chilled shrimp were huge and the crab cakes were lump crab and not too much filler. I had the lobster bisque for a starter and it was good, with some detectable lumps of crab. A little rich so I would definitely stick with the cup. For the main entree I had the filet Oscar with a side of the Gouda Mac n cheese. The filet was cooked perfectly to my request (med rare). The side was some of the best Mac and cheese I've had in a while but I probably shouldn't have ordered it because by then I was so full I could barely put a dent in it. The salads others ordered with their meal looked enormous. None of us had room for dessert so I can't speak to that. The meal was really great and I would definitely come here again. This would be a great place to go for date night or special occasion. Or if you just like great food and great service! I'd say without alcohol you could pay around $40-50 per person. read more

What a pleasant surprise. The steaks here occupy a caste somewhere between a place like Morton's and a place like Longhorn. While the steaks definitely don't taste prime and dry-aged, but they are at least choice. As such, prices occupy the middle ground between Morton's and Longhorn. We were shocked at how elegant and beautiful the restaurant was...we had brought our three year old and were in shorts. Meanwhile, the setting was every bit the equal of any Morton's or Ruth's Chris we had ever been. But we were put at ease by the warm and gracious welcome we received, and by the wonderfully friendly and efficient server. The prime rib was perfectly done and meltingly tender, sides were delicious. I would forego the crab cakes, however...coming from Maryland, they didn't pass muster. Overall, what a wonderful experience. The topper was that the cost was relatively moderate as well. Not bad for a chain owned by O'Charlie's of all companies. read more

I ordered the salmon and it came over a bed of rice and sautéed spinach. I could appreciate the well seasoned salmon but not drenched in oil. I loved the sautéed spinach which wasn't too salty and still retained its lively green color so it wasn't overcooked. The food was great! If you're looking for a traditional steakhouse Stoney River is a good choice- no funk or flair. The tuna sushi roll appetizer was great, along with the caprese salad. We went there last night and the beginning was nice. The waitress was okay. But then when we went to order she asked if I wanted the house salad or a soup implying that it came with the meal then when I asked if I could get a 2nd side instead she said yes but regardless we would be paying for it because it didn't come with it. We were a little irritated with that, but then once we ate our steak my boyfriend had his fries on a separate plate, we stopped eating because we were talking and she came to get plates. At first I thought she was getting the extra plates off the table so we could eat comfortably. But nope she took all of them, she didn't even give us a chance to eat our sides. It's a toss-up between 2 and 3 stars. But to be honest, with a high-price, upscale restaurant it's really thumbs up or thumbs down. For this kind of money if Stoney River doesn't provide an all around great experience then they shouldn't get a passing score. So it's a thumbs down for me. For our 24th wedding anniversary my wife wanted to try somewhere new. We don't often go to high-end restaurants and we've never been to Stoney River Steakhouse so it was one of the places we were considering. After visiting their website we felt good about choosing them for our special dinner. The website said the restaurant had a dress code. For example, men would not be admitted if wearing shorts or flip flops. We were fine with that. We made our reservation and looked forward to celebrating our anniversary. So that evening we dressed up a little and arrived at the restaurant. I wasn't in a suit and my wife wasn't wearing an evening gown. It was more dress/casual. Immediately I felt a little reluctant about our choice to come here. In the waiting area was a family with two younger kids running around and being loud. If you're taking your 5 or 6 year old kids to a fancy restaurant at least keep them in check. This isn't Chuck E Cheese or Steak-n-Shake. Plus I noticed that at least half the men were wearing shorts, flip flops, t-shirts, ball caps... it was just like being at Buffalo Wild Wings. I was further disappointed when we got seated and saw they had several TVs in the dining room (one right above our table). A couple of guys turned their chairs facing our table to watch the TV so we had people staring our direction when we were expecting a private meal to celebrate our anniversary. The quiet evening in a nice restaurant to share a special meal with my wife wasn't happening. We both ordered sirloin steaks, and a couple of Cokes. We also added a side of mushrooms. Our waitress was friendly but there were a couple of issues. One being that we had to ask for the bread that we saw everyone else had, and it didn't come out until 30 minutes after we were seated (not an exaggeration). The other issue was that my wife asked for a box so she could take home her leftovers. The server offered to box it for her so she let her. When the box was brought back it only had the steak in it. My wife had half of her baked potato left and half of the mushrooms, but the server threw them away. However, they made up for it by bringing her a new potato and mushrooms she could take home. Nice touch. I had the au gratin potatoes and they were fantastic! It was the food highlight. My wife loved it so we shared it. Our steaks, although perfectly cooked to the way we ordered them, weren't anything special. They tasted okay, but they weren't very tender. I can get this steak, if not a better one, at any regular steak place like Logans, Longhorn, or Demos. So our bill before tip was $83. Remember, we didn't order any alcohol. That's a hefty bill for an average steak, and in a setting that was like eating at TGI Fridays. I'd rather spend half the money and have the same steak somewhere else. If it was a nicer setting then I would give it 3 or 4 stars, but it just wasn't. The place was clean and looked fine, but part of the reason you pay twice the price is for something different, not the same old bar-n-grill environment. I dine at this Stoney River at least once weekly and have for a number of months. If it's Monday around 7PM, you'll find me eating at the bar. I have consistently been extremely happy with the staff, service and food. I have a job that makes me a "road warrior" and over the last twenty years I bet I've eaten in thousands of restaurants. So trust me: if I don't get at least "very good" food and service twice I never return. This Stoney River I'll be coming back to for as long as I am working in the Nashville area. Steaks are properly prepared, although like most superior restaurants their "doneness gauge" is pretty exact - "rare" means cool in the middle and "medium rare" is still quite red. Folks, "a little pink" is medium well, not medium rare, so be prepared. The bread - little spherical bites of sweet goodness - is simply amazing. Every last thing I've had has been at least "very good", but most are excellent. Desserts are large, shareable and top-notch. My fave: the Key Lime pie; sweet, tart, nut-crusted goodness! BTW, if the bar is busy it's loud there. People actually talk! The restaurant is less so. Come join me one night. But no flip-flops, OK? One tasty steak! Cooked to perfection! Loved every bit of it. Ordered the potatoes au gratin on the waitresses recommendation and was very please. They had a nice selection of beers on tap, which was good. I also thought that the little rolls they brought out at the beginning with the sweet butter with cinnamon in it were to die for! Great place to bring family when they're in town, a date, or work colleagues. It was about $23-$30 for all the entrees, which seems quite reasonable for a delicious steak. I sat at the bar to eat during my most recent business trip to Nashville. The ambience of the restaurant was great: busy, comfortable, and lowly lit. It was relaxing. The bar was nice with granite countertops and the bar tenders were very friendly (Nick & Melissa, if I recall correctly). Perfect evening out for my husband's birthday. The service was excellent from start to finish. The valet ,the hostess the whole wait staff and a visit from the manager. Excellent team work creating the right mix of presence and absence.Everyone was very pleasant and polite. Rare to see such a well trained staff and it was appreciated. The ambience is casual enough with the right amount of class. The lighting was spot on. The tables were lit on the eating area with the correct amount of light to see your party and the food while creating an environment that felt intimate as the lighting faded between tables. Loved the light fixtures. Food was excellent. The rolls were served piping hot and mixed with the sweet butter just melted in my mouth. Addictive.We started out with the deviled egg appetizer. The sweet and salty flavors blended nicely and presentation was a bonus. We both had the NY strip and they were cooked to order right to the perfect medium. Nice consistant flavor throughout. They offered a nice range of side dishes with unique flavors that complimented our steaks well. We finished dinner off with a delicious pecan crust key lime pie that mirrors some of the best I've had and I have had a lot of key lime pie. All in all a great experience on all accounts. We were there on a Sunday night, so it wasn't too busy (although we had reservations for our party of 6). We were seated as soon as we arrived. The food was very good and the portions were plenty big. All of our food arrived the way it was ordered. They had a nice variety on the menu for people that may not want steak. The atmosphere was nice and was quiet enough to have a conversation across the table. Parking was easy and they also have a complimentary valet. The service was a little slow and we waited long periods in between seeing any one. They did offer us desserts (which sounded wonderful), but we were all too full to even attempt more food. My fiance and I treated a good friend to dinner at Stoney River after an early event at Vanderbilt. We'd never tried the restaurant before and had heard good things about the quality of the steaks and the overall experience, so we thought, "why not tonight?" We were quite happy with our entire meal, from start to finish! We began with the house rolls, which are more like savory donuts served with flavored butter. Very delicious. We then shared the Whiskey Shrimp appetizer, which was our least favorite course of the night. The shrimp was a bit undercooked and the sauce was nothing special. My fiance and I each ordered a salad, him ordering a Caesar and I the House. We both agreed that the Caesar dressing was delicious, but the quality and freshness of my House salad was the better of the two. Next came our entrees. I ordered the blackened grouper, with sides of haircot vers and button mushrooms--I couldn't have been happier with my choices! The grouper was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. My fiance ordered the largest of the filet choices with a loaded baked potato. While he enjoyed his steak, he wished the cut of the meat was a bit thinner so the flavoring of the crust was in every bite. Our friend ordered the crabcakes, an entree that isn't on the menu but was introduced to us by our waitress. He enjoyed the large serving and his side of au gratin potatoes, which are nicely seasoned with a pinch of nutmeg. Yum. We were too full to partake in dessert, but the chocolate chip and pecan blondie looked delicious, as did the cheesecake. Maybe next time. Stoney River on West End has been my absolute favorite steakhouse for 5 years! They have generously allowed Brown Dog Foundation to host its annual wine dinner there on 3 occasions. I have hosted my birthday party there. And, when I'm ready to celebrate - the coffee-cured filet is utter perfection. The wine list is always great, but they don't mind me bringing my own wine. Ask for Danielle (she's an awesome server)! The valet guys have great memories, which is comforting. And, the Managing Partner, Michel Johnson, is the BEST! read more

I normally order ribeye, but went with the signature coffee cured filet which was unique and delicious. I highly recommend it and you definitely cant go wrong with the sweet potatoes.. The bread was amazing and the cinnamon butter made my mouth water. Splurged for dessert - the Chocolate Fudge Blondie almost killed me, but only because it was so good I couldn't stop eating it. My husband and I came here with a friend's daughter who attends Vanderbilt. Rachael was our server and very sweet! My issue with this restaurant is they need to work on the timing. We shared a shrimp cocktail and before we finished it she scooped up our appetizer plates and whisked them away. Reason: she had our salads ready and wanted to get them out. I loved my kale salad, but felt I needed to inhale it as she had our steaks out before I was only halfway through enjoying my salad! Also, many of the reviewers raved about the coffee-rubbed filet so I got sucked in. Wish I had ordered something else-- yes, it was very tender, but all filets should be tender. We had reservations, but there was a 10 minute wait. The service was a little uneven. Two martinis with olives came without the olives. A margarita never appeared, but was not on the bill.
